Rush Limbaugh Endorses Ron Paul’s Economic Plan as His Own

rush-limbaughRush Limbaugh’s endorsement of Ron Paul’s economic plan is a breath of fresh air. For the last several years the most capable and consistent conservative radio host couldn’t find a good word to say about the most capable and consistent conservative politician. All of sudden, Limbaugh declared that Ron Paul’s economic plan can save the country. He of course added, that Ron Paul stole it from him, which was ridiculous and unnecessary: In the age of the Internet it is easy to find out that Ron Paul has been saying the same things 35+ years ago, when Limbaugh was still a music disc jockey and hadn’t discovered conservatism yet. We all knew Limbaugh has been saying the same things in the last ten years or so, and we all knew the two men had the same libertarian approach to economics. There was no need for Limbaugh to make a fool of himself in such a way.

This endorsement means two things.

First, it unequivocally shows that Rush Limbaugh is an honorable and consistent man, even if I disagree with some of what he says and believes. Even in his attempt to ascribe to himself the fatherhood of Ron Paul’s economic plan, he did not shy from praising Ron Paul for his courage and tenacity. And he did not miss indicating that Ron Paul is serious about it and it is not just a campaign promise. Rush also did not miss taking a stab at the other candidates and at the Republican Party in general for only talking about budget cuts but never doing anything about it. That’s right, that same Republican Party to whose service he devoted a large part of his life and career. Limbaugh indicates he is disappointed with the Republican Party – enough to endorse Ron Paul whom he has treated less than honorably in the past.

Second, it shows that Rush Limbaugh is betting on a victory for Ron Paul in the Republican primaries. He knows Ron Paul can and will win. Why do I think so?

It is an old principle that “If you can’t beat them, join them.” Sometime in the 1950s – or may be even earlier – the media discovered a corollary to the principle: “If you can’t beat them, make them look as if they have joined you.” Communists were really good at using that principle in their propaganda, when they had to explain the economic successes of capitalism; capitalism, they said, has economic growth only because they have adopted some of the principles of socialism. In 1981 the Communist newspapers were explaining the rise of Reagan in the same way: “He promised the American people more socialism, and that’s why the American public, wanting more socialism, voted for him.” Stupid and ridiculous, but effective.

Limbaugh just rediscovered it. He apparently expects Ron Paul to win the nomination, and he wants to position himself favorably: “See, I have been telling you all along, this is the right plan, and Ron Paul stole it and he won. Next time listen to me.” Thus Ron Paul is made to look as if he joined Limbaugh and so he won.

Also, Limbaugh apparently doesn’t expect Ron Paul to lose. Because if the plan is Limbaugh’s and Ron Paul only stole it, and if Ron Paul loses the nomination, no other Republican candidate will implement a plan so radical as to cut $1 trillion of federal expenses. Limbaugh is right about the rest of the bunch: Their talk about “cutting expenses” is only marginal, 2% here, 3% there. In fact, if anything, we should only expect increase in government spending under any other candidate but Ron Paul because none of the others is seriously taking aim at the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, and the IRS, the three organizations most responsible for feeding the spending addiction of the Federal government. If Ron Paul loses, then in Limbaugh’s terms it will mean the defeat of his own (allegedly) plan. And it will mean that the Republican Party is not the party Limbaugh believes in anymore. Thus Limbaugh is indirectly declaring that only a Ron Paul nomination can preserve the Republican Party in its original ideology and purpose; unless, of course, one of the other candidates adopts Limbaugh’s (allegedly) plan – which is as probable as another virgin birth. Apparently, Rush Limbaugh is attaching his reputation, and his assessment of the Republican Party as representative of what Limbaugh himself believes, to Ron Paul’s nomination for President.

Of course, it may be that the words just slipped out of Lumbaugh’s mouth. Very unlikely, taking in account that he sounded quite self-conscious and purposeful in what he said. In any case, the Republican Party is changing drastically, and the conservative field is changing drastically towards what it was originally supposed to be. Whoever may claim the credit for it, whether Ron Paul or the 16-years his junior Rush Limbaugh, America can only benefit from it.

Ron Paul’s economic plan is about the only worth while idea he has. Way too soon to give anyone the nod, especially him.

Why? It's Marcia Brady Politics. In an episode of the classic sitcom the Brady Bunch, Marcia was running for student body
president. She made promises she knew she couldn't keep in order to get elected. (Sound familiar?) That's Ron Paul's economic
plan. It's just another empty, symbolic promise. Why? Because Ron Paul will NEVER get elected.

Is It too Late For A Rush Limbaugh And Sneardle VP Ticket??

Rush made me very angry and suspicious the day he referred to Ron Paul's foreign policy as a "tin foil hat" plan. I listen to Rush daily, but he has marginalized Ron Paul, and during the 2008 election dismissed him out of hand. Four years have passed. I decided to check out Ron Paul on my own. After all, I was so totally unimpressed with the other candidates, I felt I didn't have anything to lose. I found explanations galore and a breath of fresh air. Check out Ron Paul's website and get his stance of the issues straight from him. Even the so-called conservative media will often not tell us the truth.

Ron Paul’s economics are thorough and well thought out, whether that be slicing 1 trillion dollars out of the federal budget or basically challenging all of the assumptions of the Federal Reserve.  On the other hand, his foreign-policy and isolationism is sheer lunacy!  The ability to project power, overseas and to protect the international sea lanes for commerce, has been to the United States self-interest and its allies around the world.  The desire to revert to a fortress America is compelling for its simplicity, but dumbfounding by his naivety.  All the combination of statist, Totalitarian, and compulsion bound religious states, countries and terrorist fronts would drool and rub their bloodsoaked hands in glee at the prospect of a nation practicing such banally idiotic isolationism.  The death camps, the gulags and the killing fields raise the specter’s of warning that they have yet to visit the land of spacious skies and Amber fields of grain.

Until Woodrow Wilson it served us well and now you say “On the other hand, his foreign-policy and isolationism is sheer lunacy!” Are you calling George Washington a lunatic? Ron Paul does not advocate isolationism but he does believe the nation can be better defended at lower cost with OUR army on OUR soil. We don’t want other countries to have bases in our country. What makes you think that we are welcome in over 200 countries around the World?

But this is what all the candidates who are running are doing and the GOP as a whole are doing. They pick bits and pieces of what Paul has said and claim it as their own just to try to capture that segment of voters, then continue to slam Paul because they hate him. Hes the only honest one. I used to listen to Rush all the time and think Fox was really conservative. The only thing they conserve on is truth.  Then they try to howl about how liberal Paul is, while trying to steal his ideas. They are about love of money and they buy each other out and hide each others corruptions at the top.   Im so sick of hearing about isolationism and crazy foreign policy. Why not just say those not following the constitution are just fine with you. Come right out and say it. The constitution doesnt matter anymore. Be honest at least. Or you can be like the GOP and pretend thats not what you mean. At least the left is openly evil.

Does it really matter if Ron Paul or Rush Limbaugh first an effective economic recovery plan? “Necessity is the mother of invention”. The fact is that the principles involved are probably as old as civilization itself. Quoting  Rush “… on loan from God….” and Ron Paul’s consistant stand on principle, the real question is who can be more effective and where. Ron Paul is in the political arena, Rush Limbaugh is in media. Both of them working together adds a very loud voice to reason and common sense. That is what really matters.

    • Danny Garrett

Very Good Mr. Weston, your spot on with your statement! Can you imagine having both men(Rush & Paul) working together as it were, and the positive impact that could generate? Since the Republicans in the last few years haven’t had a backbone, which is truly a real shame and a heart-breaker, we could definitely used some “team” work out there to maintain a Conservative-base that has the wherewithal to stand-up and fight until their last breath. I for one believe Rush can be counted on and from what has been stated here Paul may be as well.

Those who are regular listeners know Rush uses irony to make a point. It’s usually the Left Media that doesn’t Get IT. The Left is usually the ones who can’t understand .

I think Rush Limbaugh knew the origin of these ideas was Ron Paul; he just used the statement that Ron Paul “stole these ideas from me” as hyperbole. I would have hoped he would have been true to his position as to promote the candidate that had the same ideas as he had. Instead, he allowed himself to get distracted by lampooning Paul’s other positions (all of which make total sense).

As an afterthought: Could it be possible that all the Mideast saber-rattling was designed by the Obama regime to make Ron Paul’s foreign policy plans seem even more extreme than Obama’s?
