Former State Senator Says ‘Goodbye, Illinois’

Former State Senator and Republican Cook County Board President candidate Roger Keats and his wife Tina left Illinois to live in Texas. They bid farewell to their Illinois friends in a Wilmette Beacon article, and with this letter, saying they’re “voting with their feet and their wallets.”

As we leave Illinois for good, I wanted to say goodbye to my friends and wish all of you well. I am a lifelong son of the heartland and proud of it. After 60 years, I leave Illinois with a heavy heart. BUT enough is enough! The leaders of Illinois refuse to see we can't continue going in the direction we are and expect people who have options to stay here. I remember when Illinois had 25 congressmen. In 2012 we will have 18. Compared to the rest of the country we have lost 1/4th of our population. Don't blame the weather, because I love 4 seasons.

Illinois just sold still more bonds and our credit rating is so bad we pay higher interest rates than junk bonds! Junk Bonds!

Illinois is ranked

  • 50th for fiscal policy
  • 47th in job creation
  • 1st in unfunded pension liabilities
  • 2nd largest budget deficit
  • 1st in failing schools.
  • 1st in bonded indebtedness
  • Highest sales tax in the nation
  • Most judges indicted (Operations Greylord and Gambat)
  • 5 of our last 9 elected governors have been indicted. That is more than the other 49 states added together!

Then add 32 Chicago Aldermen and (according to the Chicago Tribune) over 1000 state and municipal employees indicted. The corruption tax is a real cost of doing business. We are the butt of jokes for stand up comics.

We live in the most corrupt big city, in the most corrupt big county in the most corrupt state in America. I am sick and tired of subsidizing crooks. A day rarely passes without an article about the corruption and incompetence. Chicago even got caught rigging the tests to hire police and fire!

Our Crook County CORPORATE property tax system is intentionally corrupt. The Democrat State Chairman who is also the Speaker of the Illinois House (Spkr. Mike Madigan) and the most senior alderman in Chicago each make well over a million dollars a year putting the fix in for their clients’ tax assessments.

We are moving to Texas where there is no income tax, while Illinois’ just went up 67%. Texas sales tax is ½ of ours, which is the highest in the nation. Southern states are supportive of job producers, tax payers and folks who offer opportunities to their residents. Illinois shakes them down for every penny that can be extorted from them.

In The Hill Country of Texas (near Austin and San Antonio ) we bought a gracious1 home on almost 2 acres with a swimming pool. It is new, will cost us around 40% of what our home in Wilmette just sold for and the property taxes are 1/3rd of what they are here. Cook County's property tax system is a disaster: Wilmette homes near ours sell for 50% more and their property taxes are ½ of ours. Our assessed home value was 50% higher than the sales price. The system is unfair and incompetent.

Our home value is down 40%, our property taxes are up 20% and our local schools have still another referendum on the ballot to increase taxes over 20% in one year.

I could go on, but enough is enough. I feel as if we are standing on the deck of the Titanic and I can see the icebergs right in front of us. I will miss our friends a great deal. I have called Illinois home for essentially my entire life. But it is time to go where there is honest, competent and cost effective government. We have chosen to vote with our feet and our wallets. My best to all of you and Good luck!

  1. He might have meant “spacious.” []

  • righthook38

Good for him! Wish some more would follow in his footsteps.

    • Robert

While I do not blame him for leaving, you can bet that if he lived their for 60 years he too was part of the problem and mixed right in! You can also bet that he will take his garbage carpetbagger ideals to the Great Lonestar State and will try to screw it up just like the Northerners have done to Florida! The saying is if you S##t in your hat you should wear it! But not these moron liberals, They like to do it in their hat and then want others to wear it,or they try to do it in othjers hats and expect them to wear it and like it. No his departure to Texas should not be necessarily welcomed bye Texans!

      • Tim BAH

The CSA lost the war, get over it. The evil of slavery God destroyed with the evil of the carpetbagger. However, if all constitutional conservative Christians moved to Texas, and maybe a few adjoining like minded states the politics by region would be worse than 1860. The Lone Star State becomes the Lone Star Republic. LOL. Then the question becomes, could 45 or so blue states have the economic engine (entrepreneurs) or more importantly the Hand of God to play carpetbagger.

For 18 months after the LA (Rodney King) riots of 1993 U Haul was paying people to bring trucks back into California. Given the Defense Act that was passed last Friday you could probably get arrested for moving, unless you were PC, with the proper PC connections, to obtain the proper PC paperwork. "Halt! You vill produce your papers old man or you vill be detained."

    • Grammy

During the depression Illinois was one of 21 states considering a unicameral system of government. Only Nebraska did and, with it's Senators earning only $12,000 per year, term limits, and no pensions, it consistently manages to operate in the black. Statesmen instead of politicians? Maybe "The People," would be better served with a whole new system?

    • FLChristy

Looks like that is exactly what has been happening. He does not give a time frame, but IL has had a 25% drop in population, that is pretty significant! And it is happening all throughout the Northern States. The only problem is, many of those that leave continue to vote for DEMORATS??? What is up with that? They are turning Southern States, like my beloved Florida, into bastions of corrupt liberalism!! How stupid can people get?

Florida used to have one of the lowest cost of livings in the South, after 20 years of liberal infestation of government at all levels, we now have one of the highest! And the short sightedness of those same idiot politicians is why we have an average of 10% (12% in our district) unemployment now since they never tried to bring in any manufacturing or technology industries, they focused solely on tourism and growth/construction. Idiots....

  • thechristiansolution

Great article!!!! Perfect example of competition among State governments. If your State is not responsive to its citizens, then they will relocate to a State who will listen and behave and work for them instead of the other way around. But there is a problem where this Chicago mentality is heading to Washington where there is no place to hide.

The Christian Solution: Repeal the 17th Amendment and let "jealous and greedy" States grab all the power and money back from the Feds for their own use, while only allowing the Feds enough breathing room for the common defense and a few other absolute necessities. Then competition among State government for quality government at the least cost and best service will rage for our common good.

    • Keith

    • noerjoly

What's the 17th amendment got to do with it? Just wondering.

  • samtman

Goodby ex senator Keats, we in Ill. will not miss your corrupt record as a state senator, thast why you were not reelcted, than you will miss ILL. Your getting out of dodge just in time.

    • OU812

to samtman, dont you have a park to go and occupy???? You are exactly what is wrong with America!!! Get a job and a life.

    • Colorado-Texan

Sounds like a zero tolerance liberal speaking

    • Bustinloose

Samtman – from your grammatical errors I see you’re a find product of the Illinois pubic school system. I live in Illinois as well. Keats was not the problem. SHEEP LIKE YOU ARE!!

    • jbl624

I went to high school with Roger. One of the best high schools in the state. We graduated in the mid 60's when the IEA did not run and ruin our schools. Another person from our class in the head of the ILL Better Government Association. Out school taught us to be honorable. He is telling the truth and I bet samtman you are not an IL resident or you were not born here or you are a product of the a school run by the IEA or NEA. If we put all the corrupt Democrats in that empty prison here in IL, Obama wanted to use for terrorists it would be filled in a heart beat and over flowing. Remember in Chicago (which is in Crook County) the motto for the first Tuesday in November is 'Vote early vote often'.
You libs wouldn't know the truth if you tripped over it.

      • Carol

This is just sick what the Dems represent. Texas is a great place and He will love it Hope he isn't a Dem - we don't need anymore. Our state as Republican is just fine !!

  • thomas

He is cracking under the pressure of LIES. !

    • Tag

You, son, better pull you head out of your A-- because for a change this is one guy that 'told it like it really is ' here is this God forsaken place called Illinois - the first three letters are accurate - ILL- because this state and the politicians that run this joint are sick! This IS the most corrupt, the most ignorant bunch of jerk dumb birdbrains ever heard of any place. I can't wait to get myself out of this place - it stinks, the people are stupid and don't care if they are, and they keep doing the same thing year after year - voting the same type of corrupt, decayed species they've always voted in - they are too stupid to try anything or learn anything different!

      • GEORGE

You speak of the people, here in IL. you should be speaking of the corrupt voting, in ( crook ) Co.
which, elects the crooks ; not , the voters.

Our downstate ,votes haven't counted since I can remember , at least 60 years.

There are more votes cast in Crook Co, than the rest of the entire state , combined.

Now , you know ; " Rest of the Story "

  • Patrick Duffy

Remember this is the state that produced Obama and the tyrant Lincoln.

    • mudguy

      you are wrong about Lincoln

      • Mike

Sorry bud but " Honest Abe",who was responsible for starting the War Between the States almost singlehandedly, was also guilty some of some the most tyranical acts of any American President. Read Thomas DiLorenzo's book "The Real Lincoln" and you'll learn a lot of things about Lincoln that you won't learn from the politically correct media that tries to whitewash history. Linclon was simply the forerunner of the modern Federal government that thinks and acts like it's greater than God Almighty Himself.

        • noerjoly

The seeds of the civil war were sown by southern congressmen and governors and sympathizers of slave holding states before Lincoln was even in the white house. It was begun while Buchanan was in office as he was a slave state sympathizer. The plots were all in the works even before that. They were just waiting to see who would be elected after Pierce. I'm not saying Lincoln was perfect, and some things might have been done differently but, he was the man for the job. Would it have been better for the nation to be divided and have a slave holding country next door?

    • Fox

Abraham Lincoln was not born in Illinois. He was born in Hodgenville, KY (which IS in America, btw) and lived there until about age 7. Family moved to Indiana (territory then) and he grew up there, not Illinois. The family did not move to Illinois until Abraham was 21.

      • Devasahayam

On that technicality, vidkun 0bama was also not born in IL--even claim-wise (he claims to have been born in Honolulu, but not verifiable; many believe he is trying to hush-up either that he was born outside US or that his dad was one of the cent-percent American total undesirables listed below).

        Candidates for 0bama's actual dad:
        (1) Elijah Muhammed -- fits, as he was an adulterous thief and a hypocrite
        (2) Looie Farakhan, successor to Elijah Muhammed -- as evil as his predecessor
        (3) Frank Marshal Davis, erstwhile (now shovelling coal) leader of Commie Party USA.

      • Ruth

That is a bunch of bull. Lincoln was a Christian. How do you know this book is not put out by the politically correct media. The War Between the States started because the North was trying to tell the South what to do and the South rebelled. The economy of the South at that time was based on the platation system where the slaves were used to grow cotton. I am not saying it is right but blaming Lincoln for what happened is wrong. It was probably would have happened with any person that had been voted into office. Lincoln had plans to bring the south back into the nation in a way that would have truly healed the country but he was shot before that could happen.

  • ajfrench

    Almost sounds like the U.S.

  • ajfrench

Didn't take him long to catch us up to Illinois

  • bob

oh i see hes the corrupt person in ill. government i'm sure at least he says goodbye unlike your union ass backed corrupt democratic posers. they have to stay to keep up the poser lies. i think illinois is the worst state in the union next to all new england and ny

    • Drew Page

I have lived in Illinois for 67 years, not far from Chicago. All of the reasons stated in the article represent only a small percentage of the reasons why the State of Illinois seems to be the most corrupt in the country. I am sure that there are others just as corrupt, but that fact is irrelevant to me because I am stuck here in Illinois. I say "stuck" knowing that I could walk away from my home, family and friends.

Including school districts, of which Illinois has nearly 900, our state has more governmental tax supported units of government than any other. Why? Because these jobs, salaries, health benefits and pensions get parceled out to political contributors, party loyalists, union bosses, friends and family members of politicians in order to build the huge patronage armies that ensure the re-election of those who keep the "Democratic Machine" running. All In Name Only', they have joined with the corrupt Democrats to form a Combine, who all who participate get a free pass on the gravey train. Unfortunately, the rest of us get to pay the bills, or move out.

      • http://yahoo Mark

Why the hell do you stay? I wouldn't want to be paying the salaries and pensions of those worthless leaches!

  • Lee

I don't plan to leave Ohio - Thanks to Gov. Kasich, things here are improving. Now to get rid of Obummer!!

  • dlquackenbush

If I could sell my house I'd be out of this state too!

    • Robert

Please if you are like the rest of your kind just stay put and maybe if it is so bad you will find the fortitude to change it or support same! We really do not want you bringing your attitude to the South. For we have seen and are still seeing the likes of you leftist criminals! You made your bed now sleep in it and keep it where you made it right where you belong!

      • MikeC711

Robert, If he is leaving because he wants the liberties we once had in the south, he may be a good addition. Don't forget, right here where I am in Central NC we have the likes of Chapel Hill and Asheville ... their only concern in backing Obama is that he is not Marxist enough. So the south is not perfect, but disAllowing all new folks is not the answer. Creating a gov't system that is enticing to hard-working liberty-minded folks and not to the entitled or the enlightened is the way to go. I will out myself as a Ron Paul person when I say that, as a nation, we need to not only deal with our entitlement morass (where people have become experts at living well totally on the back of the taxpayers) but also the warfare state. Of course, with godfathers followers, many of the chair-borne rangers who don't know (or care) that the military supports RP more than all other republican candidates combined ... will say that RP's foreign policy is wack. The air-borne rangers are big supporters of RP ... but the chair-borne rangers ... not so much

  • MalikTous

I knew they faked Al Capone's death - he's still running the Chicago political machine. What a bunch of losers - I visitted in the 70s for Navy school and was glad to head to more friendly climates and less government!

    • Brad

All the gangsters ran for office and got it, they're all polititions now! I went to Chicago once in the 70s and theres no way I'll ever go back!

  • judy

the reasons he gave are why I left Illinois in Aug of this year.

  • Gary

Memphis, Tn can't be far behind Chicago when it comes to corruption. Recently the insurance carrier for the city's corruption insurance had to cancel the coverage. Embezzlement runs rampant and mostly unchecked. Police officers dealing drugs. Labor unions control all of public employees. School system is dismal. The city is broke financially. The murder rate among one of the highest in the nation. With all of this well known by the politicians, Memphis continues to go further down.

    • Donald

You can thank king willie for most of it........heck, they still have not found the missing floor of the parking garage.....

    • bigtom

we were warned to guard our car in the parking lot by an employee at the downtown visitor center. 'don't leave your car unattended or it will get robbed,' she told us. Memphis blacks were robbing visitors automobliles in broad daylight and the police didn't even bother posting a guard. when the economy gets worse it will be the people that will be getting mugged and robbed, not just autos. Memphis, don't feel alone, Savannah, Georgia and lots of other cities are 'right behind ya'

  • premonition010

    to Roger and Tina,

Welcome to the world of the awakened. As former residents of Illinois we awoke decades ago, moving to the southwest where uncommon -sense still rules . We welcome you to to our better version of reasonability with sincere hopes you complete your "voting with your feet" by leaving your BIG GOVERNMENT support mindset in Illinois with those who will be required to pick up the ever-increasing costs you choose not to pay.

Was Jerry Brown aka Moonbeam born in Illinois?....sounds like.

    • Devasahayam

No, Moonbat Brown was born in San Fransicko.

To surprise, IL did produce one semi-upstanding pol--Ronald Wilson Reagan (acknowledged even by this anti-Reaganite)

  • Ron Powell

Remember that state has produced Al Capone, Jesse Jackson, Obama, Jarrett, Blagodevich, Samptman and other such vermin.

    • Guest

Capone, was born in NY, Jackson, SC, Obama, allegedly HI, and Jarrett, Iran. So don't say Chicago PRODUCED them.

      • http://yahoo Mark

It's just that those flys were all attracted to the same piece of s##t!

    • Illini83

You forgot the upstanding congressman Dan Rostenkowski

    • Betty Phillips

No way did Illinois produce Obama!!! Obama was produced by a SINFUL act and it was not in Illinois, it was in Kenya, so we all know how corrupted Illinois is, but, please do not put the Zebra into our fold, we do not want him, did not want him, and will never want him, so it is important you get your facts correct. I too left Illinois and so glad for it, but, I am one who stands firm on the truth and we all know Obama would not know the truth if it bit him in his striped behind. Betty

  • Roger

let me add to the lis thatt Illinois is the only state in the country that doe not allow concealed carry which fits in so nicely with the states overall attitude toward its citizens

    • Brad

It doesn't? Boy am I in trouble!

  • Bankslay

I was run out of the state. Ameriquest filed a bogus mortgage note in the county office and immediately intiated foreclosure, soon after harrasment and false arrests by crooked cops began to intimidate me into backing off on fraud charges and destroy my credibility, and ablity to pursue civil and criminal charges. Blagojevich gave 25 million in donations to the Ameriquest Schaumburg office to expand. As bad as things are in Illinois it's worse in CA. with illegal immigration and the government bankrupting the state.

  • 71cijug

Adjust the rankings, shave a few off the corruption list, eliminate the income tax increase - you would be describing Connecticut.

    • Mike

Don't forget Michigan and Detroit in particular on the list. Detroit is so bad, almost half of its regular citizens have left leaving only the rabble to scramble for the hand outs. The Auto workers left have been caught repeatedly smoking dope and drinking on their breaks. That is why I have a Toyota.

  • Jack Reacher

How utterly embarrassing for the state of Illinois... and their citizens. The past and the present have caught up with your state. It is run by the most crooked people in American, perhaps the world. We do laugh at the moronic government now controlling Illinois and Chicago, but we simply lean back and say, "this is what you wanted and this is what you vote for each election". So live it up, Chicago-landers... I love the jokes about Obama, Chicago and Illinois! BUT THE JOKE IS ON YOU.

    • Robert

It is too bad taht we were unable to do as China did centuries ago! We should have built a wall at the Mason Dixon line and preventing this mass exodus of those who partook of and were in colusion with what they now call corrupt! The worst part is they then become restless and have to spread their venom into the new areas of their abode instead of relaxing and making none of their assanine remars like " We did it like this in Illinois" And then the downfall of their new place of abode! Thus ruining the lives of those who have inhabited their homelands for years with no desire to join these people in their Northern sector of criminalism! With every factory started in the South and every industry brought bye the North to the South has come Higher everything from Taxes to Crime rates you name it these vermin bring it!

  • South1

Jokes are made about the elections in this state, but it is no joke to the people who suffer under such a corrupt government. North Korea and Chicago are no different. The leaders prosper while the working class suffers. Illinois political leaders have made cheating an art form. Problem is, it is now about to be applied on a national scale by Obama. If he is not defeated in 2012 the national government will become "Chicago politics" on steroids. Are the rank and file Citizens of Illinois that stupid? Things will not change until a bloodbath occurs when those who are dependent on the system can no longer get their goodies voted for them in the Illinois legislature and riot. Illinois could be in flames one day. CAn't believe that it goes "democrat". By the way, if you want to know what kind of politician is created by Ilinois. Just listen to Dick Durban a blooming idiot, elected term after term. Or Rahm in Chicago, who proabably is as guilty as Blago, Jessie Jackson Jr, an intellectual idot and as corrupt as his daddy, David Axelrod the minister of propaganda Goebbels style, We could go on and on. But, then again the people of Illinois get what they deserve.

    • jaxum

There is a quote from Thomas Jefferson that always has, does and always will apply, "People get the government that they deserve,) So goes the city, county, state and country.

  • DoctorBob

I live in Illinois, and he's dead on the money with this article! And 98% of this state of affairs can be laid squarely at the feet of Chicago Democrats! That Chicago Democrats are now running the country tells you a LOT about what you need to know. Al Capone would be so proud.

  • vincent

Wrong about Lincoln? Provide some intelligent discussion to refute it!

Old Abe wanted to send the emancipated slaves back to Africa. He suspended Habeus Corpus, arrested journalists that questioned his policies, approved the bombardment of civilians, was happy to see draft protesters gunned down, sent thousands to prison for refusing to shoot at fellow citizens. He was a despot, and the neocons worship the deified Lincoln. He would be one of Obama's czars today, if he was resurrected.

    • DEW

Where are you getting your history from, marvel comics? What kind of rock do you kreeps crawl from onder? I bet you believe 9/11 was a government conspiracy. Where do you folks come from?

    • thechristiansolution

You are dead on with your list. I would add that he started a Civil War over forcing States to live together against their will, bloodier than all our other wars put together. The transatalntic slave trade had already been shut down. English colonies had already eliminated slavery peacefully by either "buying" the slaves from the slave owners for a fair price through eminent domain, or by saying that the slave owner had not "bought" the offspring of the slaves, hence, when they turned 18, they were as free of the slaveowners as the kids were free of their parents. Northern States had already outlawed slavery. Even the Czar of Russia received the nickname liberator for freeing the Russian Serf. Freedom was in the wind without bloodshed. Old Abe was only using an old-fashioned Rahm Emmanual style "crisis" to push for a stronger federal government, seeing that the wind would be behind his back.

    • mjnellett

Most of the Founding fathers tossed around the idea of sending the slaves back to Africa, fearing that they outnumbered the citizens of America at that time. Constitutionally the President does have the right to suspend Habius Corpus in the case of REBELLION which, if I'm not mistaken, was called the "war between the States"! The troops that Lincoln sent to put down draft riots was justified under martial law to shoot when the riots turned dangerous. He didn't send anyone to prison for refusing to shoot at their fellow citizen. He did send people to prison for spying! Please get your facts straight before you go spewing your SOCIALIST PROGRESSIVE BS. Thank you COMRADE! Lincoln wouldn't like what Obama has done to his beloved America, Vincent, but nice try! Merry Christmas

      • Keith

        1. The Southern States exercised their right to secede, Lincoln didn't like it so he started a war between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America.
        2. Northern slaves weren't freed until passage of the 14th Amendment, the Emancipation Proclamation was just a ploy to get the backing of abolitionists.
        3. Lincoln beleived the Fed creates the States, he was WRONG! It's the other way around.

  • juju

sounds like hes telling the truth

  • ladykroft

From the frying pan into the other frying pan, now you'll be supporting all the illegal aliens with the money you save in Texas. Your grandchildren won't be able to go to college because seats in colleges will be taken up by illegal aliens who pay less tuition than the real citizens. You'll be labeled as "heartless" by your governor if you don't go along with it.
Later on down the road you'll be challenged by the muslims that your governor Perry is so endeared to while you can't get to your home because they're praying in the streets in front of your driveway and you'll be powerless and "heartless" if you complain, among other things they'll do even illegally and it'll be too bad.

    • Colorado-Texan

clearly doesn't know much about the hill country of texas

    • Michelle

Welcome to IL ladykroft or did you not know you're supporting illegals in there too? Last year IL was over 5 billion in debt and it spent over 3 billion on education of, welfare payments to, and the incarceration of illegals. Instead of getting rid of over half the debt by eliminating benefits to illegals or the illegals themselves, Quinn raised taxes and stuck the taxpayers with even MORE to carry on their backs. He also ain't doing a darn thing to prevent illegals free or discount rides to college. Doesn't it make you feel warm and tingly to know that as long as the illegals are here pleading poverty and sympathy and yelling racism, they'll be getting a free ride off our backs while our own families go without? Did you miss the big rally in Chicago last year where the muslims were pushing to the right to enact sharia law because they think US laws are discriminating against theirs and their religion? The poo you're talking about is going on everywhere. The only difference is Texans ain't being stiffed near as much as IL is and they'll fight for their country and rights unlike the liberal generation IL has produced that thinks we should hand everything over freely no matter what it costs us.

    • iitywybad11

Ladycroft, you should remember that it is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Education of children born to illegal immigrants is required by law, and since they live ine Texas and graduate from a Texas high school, they are entitled to in-state tuition. The same is true here in Wisconsin, and at least 20 other states. The Aga Khan is a moderate muslim supportive of the United States, as are many muslims in this country.

Ignorance is a terrible blinding affliction. You have my sympathy.

    • @AZjbc

Why I don't agree - it is a State Right to Vote as they Want- and they Wanted that. Otherwise Texas has alot of Great Country side- low taxes, and by the way only about 10 % of the whole student body is Undocemented Non citizens from families in Texas.............The State has battled Illegals- they do have troops at the Border -- but they have some compassion for people who are here because the FEDS won't do they job. I live AZ & we are fighting the battle both against illegals & the DOJ for not letting the Sherif & the police do the JOB that the FEDS are not Capable of doing........ Maybe if they would have send the Half of a BILLION THEY GAVE TO SOLYNDRA TO Build the Fence- and Add Agents to the Border we could FIX the Problem.
Joke- how do you Break a Obama Supporter ? Hide his Food Stamps Under his WORK shoes. HAHAHAHAHAHAHJAAAA

  • Dean

1+1=2, Barack Obama+Chicago & Illinois...and we wonder why AMERICA is screwed up. Unions, corruption in government have destoyed brainer here.

  • Laura

    Thank You !!!

  • Sutekh

You left out one thing. Illinois is number one in the production of biracial traitor presidentfds. I don't think any other state has ever produced one. That's a first. Regardless of Obama's real birthplace, his real parentage, and his real citizenship, Illinois is the state that began his political career, from the initial fund raiser at domestic terrorist Bill Ayers' house, to his trip to the Senate as the very, very rookie senator from Illinois.

  • DEW

Maybe corruption has finaly caught up with and destroyed Illinoise. But like my state of MA the voters that supported it and allowed it to happen have to share the blame ( union, welfare, entitlement folks). My state MA plus CN and RI will be next.
    It was inevitable.

    • jimmyg

Hi Dew...throw NY in the mix...Our state is one of the few sanctuary states in the nation. The democrats will ruin this state and especially NYC...The governor thinks he's Jesus Christ almighty....NY politics can't be far from Illinois...

  • bhs3kgt

Native Ohioian here. Issue 2 failed here which means that the public unions here are still masters over their employers (Ohio citizens). Kasich tried, bless his heart. Things could be much better in Ohio if we were a Right-To-Work state. Our little issue 2 drew union money and activists from all around the country.

  • Bernie

We all need to get our a---s out to vote in November 2012 , get the s--t out of the whouse and put in some good, trustworthy, honorable, smart,,reliable and people willing to work for us not for their own pocketbooks. Haven't we had enough, time to make a difference not just talk about it.

    • guest

When you find those people, let me know please.

  • Randy131

You can apply everything said in that letter, about corruption, to the Democratic Party, and people of the Democratic Party like Obama, which the Democratic Party runs everything in the place that Roger and Tina Keats are leaving, and where Obama started his political career and is from. Is all this just a coincidence, or the real reason why, with Obama running the federal government, the national economy is failing tremendously, just as all the governments in the state of Illinois are causing their local and state governments to fail their local and state economies? Whatever, it's something to think about when voting in the next national election in November of 2012, and something to seriously consider when deciding who you want to be the President when voting in those elections, as well as the people of the Party you want in power.

  • Dorothy

come on down TX.welcomes you. but i would not run for office any time soon you have to build up trust.just where you come from would lead to a lot of questions

  • Major Daniel P. Corcoran (ret)

I knew things were bad when I interviewed for the investigators position at the Cook County State Attorney's office and was told within 15 minutes of my interview with the Chief Investigator that I could have a job if I donated $5,000.00 to the political party of my choice! Needless to say I turned down the job and moved back to Florida.

  • jerry1944

the state is still run by the mafia just like the early days i think sooo whoes idea to pick that obammbo president . The union mafia. But i didnt know they catch so many of them. but as many as they have i guess its the odds thing

  • Beatle

Horse Apples And pig stuff! Gripe, gripe, Get out and DO SOMETHING!

  • Ronald Anders

It's not called the People's Republic of Chicago for nothing.

  • Nikita63

Pretty much the same ids true of my Home and birth state, Massachusetts. We hgave a number of public officials in prison for various cahrgers of malfeasance, racketeering and outhright theft but here, it is endemic to the Speakers of the House. Our current one is under inmvestigatrion and the last one just began an 8 year sentence in a federal prison in Kentucky. Here, itr is as in Chicago, corrupt democrats who think they are above the law and that includes ALL of the scum in the Legislature. Voting outt every incumbenyt and joining a Tea Party would help the state of the Union and the Status of American citizens greatly, and allow a newly enlightened leadership to do itts job and provide FOR those citizens, not disdain and denifgrate them.

The WELCOME TO TEXAS Sign now says.

  • Beatle

Talk about BIG government! I come across an article on the 'puter yesterday that gave a complete list, alphabetically, of ALL departements and agencies that make up the "organization" that runs this country. Know how many there are? I didn't either. There are 482 and will probably be a lot more before things turn around.
I think it was I wonder how many these can be shoved out the door?

this has hit the nail on the head for this state it is runned by crooks.

  • Gidge

To boot Obama brings the man who made Ill. schools first in failing to DC and makes him head of the Dept. of Education, Duncan, plus Obama as Senator in Ill. was no help at all.

  • gypsy

    Anyone but Obama!
Remember a vote for a democrat is a vote for Obama and illegal aliens, homosexuals and terrorist.

  • ekg

Good for you. I am sure that you have tried every way to not make the move, but finally there is just nothing to do but what you have done. May you and yours have a blessed time in your new 'home state'. Chicago/Illinois have always been so wonderful but power and corruption will bring about ruin to the most wonderful places anywhere. The presesnt WH resident is an example of the graft and corruption that is allowed to go on in Illinois and he certainly is a good example of it.

  • Bernie are full of sh.t .....and just regurgitating misinformation......I came to live in Texas 26years ago having lived in many other places in the US as well as around the world, including Canada........frankly though we do have some issues,I would not want to be anywhere else.

  • Violet

It doesn't matter what state you live in now days. They are all corrupt to one degree or another. It's just like voting. You pick the lesser of two evils. With this you just pick the lesser of 50 evils. Eventually all the states and the federal government will go belly up and once one state goes they will all go like dominoes unless the fed goes first and then it will just be a total collapse. I'm betting on total collapse because some states are actually trying to rein in the spending but the feds just keep doubling down.

  • Richard Gibbard

This guy wasa a state senator? It sounds as if he could have been a part of the problems. Still, getting out of illinois isn't a bad idea.

  • Henry

To take over a country and to install Marxism, one must collapse the country. No, America is not exempt from reality. Hugo Chavez is slapping his knee saying, "Dang, I didn't think he was going to be able to install Marxism." Get ready America. This isn't going to be pretty.

  • jaxum

There are all of the aformentioned states from hell and then there is Wyoming, God's country where most of the admittedly small and conservative Republican population stay by choice and love. I'm sure that there are a few liberal Demonrats but they don't make any noise because they know that the rest of us would either laugh at them or look at them as though they had two heads.

  • Pablo Felipe Robles

Leave Illinos!!?? No way, just as I did years ago -- Leave the US

  • Carol

SOUNDS like the USA because look who is in Our White House Obama where he came out of so NOTHING really surprises me not in the least.

  • Tag

You people that disagree with the bitter proof that what this guy says is absolute truth about ILL, , better pull you head out of your A-- because for a change this is one guy that 'told it like it really is ' here is this God forsaken place called Illinois - the first three letters are accurate - ILL- because this state and the politicians that run this joint are sick! Talk about a waste of space and terra-firma, Illinois should just be bulldozed and started over!

    • guest

We can't wait for you to leave either!!! Need help packing?

      • Tag

Ha! Obviously I hit a nerve - which one are you - the ignorant deliberately stupid one, or a jerk dumb birdbrain that keeps voting the same trash into office year after year - you must be both since you still live in Illinois by CHOICE because you couldn't make it anywhere else - you would have to have SOME talent in other places! Since its a well known fact that the only political arena in Illinois is corrupt then you get what you deserve - more of the same! But then, ignoramous like you wouldn't know the difference if it came up and hit you right in the kisser! Twit! Who is 'we' idiot - name your game!

  • George L. Randle

Soory Chicagoans, you have made you bed, now lie in it. You didn't lift a finger when we conservatives, in the Democratic Party, were told that we would no longer be welcome in the Party. I once did work in the 28 ward for Joe Lupo; an uncle of one of my best friends. Evil has been wedged into Chicago Politics for a long time and from what I read, it is worse than ever. I departed from Chicago 43 years ago, when who I worked for, US Steel, transfered me to a new territory and I have never had the desire to come back. Live in this socialistic Utopia you have voted for and smell the stench of the rotten souls for you complicity.

  • Gary Mallast

Gee. That sounds even worse than Michigan.

    • Flipper

Gary: Well yes! But Detroit and Dearborn make ILL inois sound like paradise.

    • JRG

No, You've got Dearborn...I think I would rather live in hell before Dearborn...LOL

  • Kevin

Like Detroit, unions and democrats destroyed the city.

  • Arnie

Illinois ranked dead last in fiscal policy, first or close by in taxes, indebtedness and corruption... sounds like Illinois isn't trying hard enough since they actually had to conduct this survey. :p

  • Don DeHoff

Such a sad commentary, by the Senator and those posting . I am appalled by the ignorance (meaning only not having the facts) of so many who comment. It is OK to be a Democrat or a Republican as history has proven one cannot exist very long without the other . However, all must remember they (we) first are Americans, and the future of this great country is at stake. Yes, our Constitution needs some "tweeking", but we have a process for doing just that, called the amendment process. And again, yes, that is cumbersom process but it was designed to be so as to prevent "willy-nilly" changes at the whim of a group or individual---the amendment process involves "we the people" and not just an individual or group who wish to change our form of government and freedom way of life. Yes (for the third time), changes are needed, but they should be made by civil and evolutionary means not revolutionary methods being advocated by all too many people who are anticipating a "free ticket through life". The revolutionary method will surely result in much "blood in the streets".

  • ConservaDave

Connecticut can't be far behind. The unions own the new governor (who may or may not have been elected by voter fraud-the GOP [Gutless Old Party] refusing to challenge the results); "shared sacrifice" means 75 new or increased fees and taxes and government spending going up 5%; businesses and productive citizens move out; welfare people are magically drawn to the state insuring corrupt Democrat control possibly forever (like, I'm sure the welfare vote goes Republican-yuk, yuk) until it all comes crashing down some time in the not too distant future. Texas is looking better and better.

  • Testa Sterone

With corruption running so fast and loose in Illinois, it will pay to NOT vote for anyone from Illinois ever again.

  • Homer

Illinois, is a piece of crap stae: It is a commonwealth and it is very high to live there, I don't know about him and his character, but I'd leave too!!

  • Tag

Most of the people that live in Illinois near a bordering state line will go across that state line to buy gas, cigarettes and most other necessities. They only buy in Illinois what they must have, like some foods. The politial arena are so stupid they haven't ever realized that IF they would make their prices competitive with neighboring states then people would spend their money here BUT since they are so dumb like "guest" that responded to my earlier comment it never occurs to them to be intelligent enough to figure that one out - so what do they do? They just raise the prices even higher which drives MORE people across the state line! To call them stupid is a compliment! Right 'guest'??????? If the jerks that live here think Pat Quinn is 'honorable' and honest then you better get ready for a surprise because he's just as sneaky and crooked as the other 5 already in prison! Pretty soon they can just put Ill. governors in the pen and let everyone else out on a visitation weekend!

  • d.k.dexter

moved from waukegan,il in 1995 to mo.and havent been back since, best thing ive ever done!!!

  • singlemom

You know what is really scary is that people elected a president. Who was groomed in this hotbed of corruption. Some how he had to be above the scum.

  • Jack F

you all should keep Texas a secret, next thing you know the scumbag liberals will be down there to screw it all up. I can't wait for open season on liberals and commies.

  • Carol LS

  • Patty B.

Tag, did you complete second grade? Before you continue to call other people stupid or ignorant, you might want to proofread your comments before hitting the send button.

  • LukeAppling

That is exactly what our founding Fathers planned if you live in a state that does what you not want it to do...move. Good for the awakening heartland. Chicago, Cook County and Illinois deserve to have all the taxpayers move, out and let the "pigs at the trough" try to function. Obama wants more and more "pigs at the trough", they vote for him.

  • Dano in Texas

I certainly do not think that this young feller is speaking with a "forked tongue"! I might take issue with one assessment of his, that being that he was residing in the most corrupt city. I personally believe that honor still goes to Washington, D.C. Otherwise, it is a superb article and "parting shot" to his former residence.

Welcome to Texas, where you will find "like minded" people!

  • teri

Welcome to Texas Mr and Mrs Keats!

  • lizaz

Good for them....there are some people who put their money where their mouth is!!!! Now I'd have a new goal...start working to clean out the cesspool in DC so we can get the border secured. It certainly isn't in our state, AZ, and our current DOJ is following orders to cradle as many illegal aliens inside our country as possible...pimping for votes for the election in NOV 2012! and don't tell me illegal aliens can't vote.....they have phony IDs which get them welfare, food stamps and every other giveaway program we have....there's a lot to be done, but nothing good will happen until the WH is emptied of the current occupants!!!

  • Ron Wallace

Last night, I went to bed looking forward to my upcoming congressional race in the 9th District. After midnight, I read this article and havent slept since. I realized that one congressman is unlikely to make the necessary difference, but 18 could. So, I made a final decision: I too will vote with my feet, and come back to Illinois with a mission and a plan to gut this corruption. Stay tuned.

  • ibackamerica

Like locust, liberals distroy a state, then move on to the next. OBAMA EPIC FAILURE.

The most corrupt administration since Capone is in office now. Imported directly from Chicago.

I would leave too, baby, just because of the winters, never mind the BS imposed on the people by the corrupt democrats.

Click the name, see the website, prepare now.

    • JRG

The winters aren't really that bad. January and February are bad but that's about it....

  • raygun

Hey!! It's the Chicago way!! Remember the mafia? Al Capone? Now, they have the BHO and his hinchmen. WOW!! What a way to go.

  • Blair Franconia, NH

He should have come to New Hampshire, like Texas, New Hampshire doesn't have an income tax, New Hampshire also doesn't
    have a sales tax.

  • Ole Vet

My wife lived in Illinois as a teenager. She told me drivers always kept a folded $20 (a LOT of money those days!) next to their license for the possibility of being pulled over; as this ensured NO ticket!! She said it was no joke of the saying that Chicago had " the best policemen money could buy"! No wonder Capone and the mob was able to stay out of jail so long, there!

Kudos on leaving that 'rats' nest' !

  • William

Enter text right heI don't blame him for moving. Back when I was a kid in Wisconsin most of the people that came north for holidays and rest were from Ill. The roads were full of them. I bet its that way yet if they can get the money to.

  • Jim

The problem, dear people, is that YOU are the ones who keep electing these thieves and scumbags. Good Lord,....half of the people who are voting these days don't even pay taxes!.....(might be a pretty good idea to lose one's right to vote after one year on the dole, eh?)

  • 1SG Steve

Maybe Illinois should secede from Chicago, using a ballot referendum. Call it West Indiana or something like that.

    • JRG

That's been considered but the politicians won't let it happen. Chicago is Democratic and because of the population there it controls the state. Actually the rest of the state is republican but doesn't have the population to overthrow the chicago Democratic votes. I live in Dupage county which borders cook county and Dupage county is overwelmingly Republican.

  • kickk

And to think we picked a President from this basket case of a state. With all the experience he gained there, no wonder why the country is falling apart now that he's in the highest office.

Texas has no income taxes. And we still do fine.

  • Henry

America is simply dying. We may not make it to the end of 2012. Say your goodbye's now. Does anyone have a manual that teaches how to goose step?

  • John Hardman

Holder is in deep doots because of His bent for duplicity and flat out rage against americans, and White Americans in particular. Being deceptive and secretive is not easy, I am reminded of that old line.."Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive."
Uncontrolled hostile feelings are a sure path to an early death by slow motion suicide. Bon Voyage Mon Ami....

  • Dave

Consummate political whore Mr. Keats now he says he's quitting the state (and the mess he helped to create). Alas, not one word about the illegal/mass immigration he helped to facilitate for Illinois businesses exploiting cheap labor (subsidized by us, the IL taxpayer) which is responsible for the biggest component of the state deficit due to education, health, infrastructure, etc., I'd say an even bigger expense than the underfunded pension liabilities for the ranks of worthless state workers that, as he correctly points out, has placed Illinois debt at the forefront of the muni/public debt debacle.

    Ola! Godfatherpolitics,
Cool Post, When Mark Dantonio became the new Michigan State University football coach two years ago, he came to the East Lansing Campus with a pedigree that shouted success is on the way. He has not disappointed the Spartan faithful.
    BTW great blogpost
