IRS Given More Power to Increase Revenue

Forbes reports on the IRS’s expanding quest for more revenue. A federal judge — who is obviously paid by the party for which he ruled — ruled in favor of the use of increased powers by the IRS.

A federal district court judge has given the Internal Revenue Service permission to serve a “John Doe” summons on the California State Board of Equalization demanding the names of residents who transferred property to their children or grandchildren for little or no money, from 2005 to 2010. The IRS wants those names as part of a crackdown on what it believes is the widespread failure to file required tax returns when real property is passed between family members.

The IRS has already received information about intra-family property transfers from county or state officials in Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington state and Wisconsin. But officials of California’s BOE said state law prohibited them from disclosing the information without a court approved summons.

Judge Morrison England ruled for what he called “the most reliable and least burdensome option for the IRS.”

These pushy techniques have worked well in Switzerland. The hard working folks at the DOJ/IRS are now bringing them to California. This means that the IRS can look at anyone’s real estate transactions. With John Doe warrants, they can go fishing/snooping wherever they like.

Think what you will of this. The country is starved for revenue. The outfit that is charged with collecting that revenue has an army of tough-minded lawyers behind it. It will have the power to turn over stones as it pleases. In the end this effort will raise some additional revenue. It will scare the crap out of a few folks as well. Some will cheer this. I see the John Doe warrants as a big and dangerous step on a very slippery slope. It sure won’t do much for Uncle Sam’s image.

    Our Federal Government is ignoring the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. These documents were written and adopted to prevent the rise of a despotic Government from occuring within the United States as it existed in the original Colonies. Adherance to those sacred documents has kept us free to live nartural lives in our daily activities for over 230 years.

    Now, with our elected Federal Government ignoring those documents, we are once again moving into despoticism. How far will it go? It is up to us to either embrace or reject the action. Please read and understand the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independance until you fully understand it's meaning, then track our recent history from 1900 to present. I think you wil see a growing Federal Government under which our liberties and rights are being taken away from us. At what point do we stand and in unison, shout out a resounding "NO"?

    Hopefully we can make our statement with votes, but we must ask are these votes really counted as they are filled, or are the "results" contrived by those who are in power and want more power?

    At what point must we again declare ourselves independent of a Despotic Government?

    Let the free market take its course. We are having too much regulation and that does not help the market to stabilize. It makes the buyers complacent and the banks do predatory lending. If the banks had their house in order, they would not be needing bailouts.

    His last name is a dead give away that he is enamored with the british tax system where every body pays from 20% up to 90% firm in taxes ,
    thats the real reason the limeys can't have guns they have nothing left to protect after they pay their taxes.

    Are we next with nothing left to loose? I suppose so if Obama gets re elected or Newt, or Romney, or Perry get elected

    @TOO INFORMED, your government is NOT "advocating domestic violance (sic) against [your] government". In point of fact it is working (and in fact HAS been working for several decades) to eliminate your ability to to do violence at all. It has been said that the difference between a citizen and a subject is the right to keep and bear arms. From what I can tell, the difference between a subject and a serf is mostly semantic. The Founders' writings indicate that they wrote the second amendment to forestall a government descent into despotism. Disarmed people cannot easily rebel. People armed only with sporting weapons have a difficult time mounting a successful rebellion. Militias armed only with hunting rifles cannot be said to be "well regulated (properly functioning)".

    I greatly fear that a revolution is not an "if" but a "when".

    In Mass. they brag about how Ethel Kennedy sold her son the Multi million dollar estate for $1. Next they will tax your kids allowance. The tax was paid on this money when you earned it, what you do with it is none of their concern.

    More talk and no action on the peoples part. They (IRS) have, and will continue to do as they want. They know the sheeple are a bunch of hogwash talk, and nothing more.

    When a person is deprived by the government of the right to do with his property what he wishes, this is dictatorship. This type of government control is causing Americans to question where our country is headed and many Americans, who can afford it, are leaving to other countries where their right to property ownership without government restrictions is not inhibited. The IRS needs to be abolished and a simple tax system such as the flat tax should be established.

    So now they are going to go back in time and make something illegal so they can falsly imprison, persecute, and confiscate. Ex post facto laws are Unconstitutional, so this is just one more example among dozens of the utter contempt obama & minions have for our Constitution.
