Could Abraham Lincoln Run and Win in 2012?

Abraham Lincoln is a political icon to those on the Left and Right. Conservatives like Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck consider him to be our nation’s greatest president, as do many others. Some have compared Barack Obama to Lincoln. Check out the CBS article “The Obama-Lincoln Parallel: A Closer Look” if you want to see how liberals view the iconic history of Lincoln.

Hundreds of books have been written about him, more than any other American. There’s a monument in Washington, D.C., extolling his heroism in the face of impossible political odds. His face is carved on Mount Rushmore immortalizing him in solid rock.

But has Lincoln been properly vetted? Have conservatives and liberals ignored some of Lincoln’s lapses in judgments and acts of tyranny because his expansion of the power of the State suits their political purposes?

If Lincoln ran for president today would he win? Not if his views were scrutinized like other presidential candidates, unless of course, he was running as a Democrat.

People would be shocked to learn what Lincoln’s views were on “Negroes” and slavery. Consider this from the Fourth Debate with Stephen A. Douglas at Charleston, Illinois, September 18, 1858[1]

“I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races — that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality.”

There’s a great deal more. The following is from Judge Andrew P. Napolitano’s book Lies the Government Told You: Myth, Power, and Deception in American History (2010, pp. 245–247). Remove Lincoln’s name from the following, and any candidate running for any political office today would be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail, if we did those kind of things today:

“Lincoln was not the ‘Great Emancipator.’ He did not oppose slavery. Before the Civil War, he rarely spoke about slavery. When he did, Lincoln stressed that the president was not constitutionally permitted to do anything about slavery[2], and suggested that if anything was to be done, the blacks should be shipped to Africa; whether forced to come here or born here. While working as a lawyer, Lincoln represented slave owners, and in that capacity he prosecuted fugitive slaves, returned them to their masters, and was paid handsomely for it.

“Furthermore, the Civil War initially was not about slavery. It started because the South vehemently opposed the federal government’s increasing power at the expense of the states. The tipping point occurred when the federal government, upon Lincoln taking office, passed a high tariff that benefited the North and harmed the South. The high tariff forced the South to purchase higher-priced Northern goods, and cut of its business relationship with Europe. Lincoln did not introduce the abolition of slavery as a goal until two years into the war, and his Emancipation Proclamation was grossly ineffective.

“Lincoln did not attempt to free the slaves in the ‘border’ States of Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, and Missouri. His so-called emancipation Proclamation expressly permitted slavery to exist and remain lawful in those states. Nevertheless, Lincoln is viewed as a hero and is falsely recognized by the government and its school systems as the greatest United States president. He was a tyrant.

“The point of this story is that the government – and especially our presidents – continually seek to control the news, lie to us in order to reach their objectives, and smother or even prevent dissent. During the Civil War, Lincoln shut down thousands of newspapers and charged thousands of editors and writers with treason. Many of Lincoln’s critics were executed, and many more were jailed, because of their exercise of free speech. Our leaders do not employ such drastic measures today, but they lie and instill fear in us to argue for the necessity of war. Unfortunately, we do not discover their true motives until it’s too late.

"Lincoln’s war killed over 650,000 Americans, more than have been killed in all wars in American history combined. He arrested newspaper editors, state legislators, and even a Republican congressman who merely spoke out against him. He suspended the writ of habeas corpus. His soldiers robbed American banks, burned American courthouses, raped American women, and killed American civilians – all with legal impunity.”

  2. “Apprehension seems to exist among the people of the Southern States that by the accession of a Republican Administration their property and their peace and personal security are to be endangered. There has never been any reasonable cause for such apprehension. Indeed, the most ample evidence to the contrary has all the while existed and been open to their inspection. It is found in nearly all the published speeches of him who now addresses you. I do but quote from one of those speeches when I declare that— ‘I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.’” From Lincoln’s First Inaugural Address (March 4, 1861). []

The Lincoln mask is off. Only historical ignoramuses and statists can defend him.

Whenever a president is assinated his legacy appears larger than life. The same is true of JFK. JFK's adminstration was a disaster but know one will talk about it because this hansom young man with the beautiful wife and children was murdered while in office. You never hear anything bad about JFK even though until that terrible day in Dallas he was almost as unpopular as Obama. I have been told by many people over the years not to say anything bad about JFK because he was assinated. Obama is taking alot of his ideas right out of Lincoln's play book. In 1964 Johnson got most of JFK's bills passed that congress had turned down the year before in memory of JFK. Feelings were so strong everyone was afraid not to pass them. This is why I pray for Obama's good health and safety every day.

Actually, Lincoln was a racist who was also guilty of war crimes and is responsible for the deaths of 650,000 Americans.

In 1858, during a debate with Stephen Douglas, Lincoln said: “I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people….” (Google Lincoln-Douglas debates.)

It is commonly taught that the War Between the States was about the abolition of slavery. Actually, the impetus for the war was due to a tariff placed on imported goods coming through Southern sea ports by a Northern dominated Congress. This tariff was referred to by southerners as the Tariff of Abominations and nearly caused South Carolina to secede from the Union. Andrew Jackson threatened to send federal troops to Charleston if South Carolina refused to collect the tariff and send it to Washington. (See “Kearney’s March” by Winston Groom.)

This tariff was used to build roads and bridges in the northern states while the south was left to fend for itself.

Senator William Grayson of Virginia expressed concern that the South would eventually become the “milch cow” of the Union.

When the southern states threatened secession, Lincoln was asked why he didn’t just let the South go. He said: ”Let the South go? Let the South go! Where then shall we get our revenues?”(See “Memoirs of Service Afloat” by Raphael Semmes.)

Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation excluded slave states that remained in the Union and certain parishes in Louisiana that were under control of Union troops. It only applied to states in the Confederacy, which was a sovereign nation, over which Lincoln had no legal authority.
Therefore, his proclamation did not free slaves anywhere.

Slaves were eventually freed by passage of the Thirteenth Amendment on December 6th, 1865.

Some of the many atrocities committed by Lincoln’s Union Army are as follows:

1.Lincoln ordered General Sherman to “make Georgia howl.” So Sherman marched through Georgia burning not only towns, villages, factories and grist mills, but also burning crops, leaving women, children, and the elderly to starve. Sherman captured more than two thousand white women and children who were sent to the North to work at sustenance level pay, making them virtual slaves for the Yankees. They were never returned to their families.
2.Union Colonel John B. Turchin was court-martialed for letting his troops “plunder and pillage the inhabitants” of Athens, Alabama, and allowing several of his soldiers to commit rape on the person of a colored girl. After being convicted, Turchhin was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General by Abraham Lincoln and continued to serve in the Union Army until Oct 4, 1864.
3.In Marion County Missouri, Gen. John McNeil threw southern sympathizers in jail for expressing a pro-Southern point of view. When a Union informer came up missing, McNeil threatened to kill ten of these men if the informer did not show up. When the informer didn’t show up, these men were summarily executed. Shortly afterwards, McNeil was promoted to Brigadier General by Lincoln.
      4. In 1862, several tribes of Native Americans revolted against the cruel policies of the United States government. This caused Minnesotans to fear for their safety. General John Pope rounded up 300 warriors, out of which Lincoln selected thirty nine to be executed. These Native Americans were executed to assuage the fears of white Minnesotans so they would vote for the re-election of Lincoln, which they did. (For details of the above and other atrocities, see, “The South was Right” by James and Walter Kennedy.)

By invading The Confederate States of America, a sovereign nation, Lincoln caused the death of 600,000 Americans, not to end slavery but to hold on to power.

I could be wrong, but I recall Glenn Beck stating that our best president was George Washington.

    • JoeE71

Beck did say George Washington, not Lincoln. This article was flat wrong. Lincoln also gave the precedent for the income tax that progressives used in the early 1900's.
Saying that, this article also neglects the good Lincoln did do. He was like most presidents, good on some things, awful on others.

    • Cincinnatus

Journalism used to be reporting news. That is, finding something that actually happened, checking to see that it is true, and then letting the people know what happened. Journalism nowadays is coming up with an idea, usually from a clear blue sky, adding as much personal opinion as possible then dishing it out as "news." Glen Beck wrote a whole book called "Being George Washington" in which he comes to the conclusion that Washington was not only our greatest president, but also one of our greatest citizens, whom we should all try to emulate. Every president we have had, all 44 of them had, has, flaws. Name the 5 you think are best and somebody will call that particular 5 the worst. Lincoln did what he had to do to save the Union. Nothing more or less. The current president is under no such delusion. If the country falls apart... oh well.

"...because he was a key figure in the Constitutional Convention and the United States’ first President, it is important to understand what kind of man he was. We find conflicting contemporary testimony regarding Washington’s Christianity. Some say he was a Christian, while others – including his own pastor Dr. James Abercrombie – say he was not. One thing everyone agrees upon is that Washington never made a public confession of Christ as His Lord and Savior: 'Whosever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.' (Matthew 10:32-33)....

"Washington, although hardly a Christian, was a Freemason of the rankest sort. 'Testimony given by Timothy Bigelow in a eulogy before the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts two months after Washington’s death indicates that Washington’s Masonic experience was more than perfunctory.'"

To my knowledge, Abercrombie, a high church Episcopalian (Anglican), never said Washington was not a Christian. He was put off by the fact that Washington did not stay after the worship service to take communion from Abercrombie, thus Abercrombie diminished Washington's spiritual experience of Christianity. Like other "priest" of the Anglican persuasion, Abercrombie placed a high value on receiving the sacrament from the priest, very close to the Roman Catholic view. Thus, the Mass (communion) was not offered openly to all professing Christians, but was reserved after the worship service only to the "communicants." Martha always remained for the sacrament. George, with his adopted child (Martha's granddaughter) went on home with the servants. It did trouble Martha, but bode ill with the priest. Anyone who reads Washington's writings and speeches, even his official papers, will be struck with a man of faith in Christ as a savior.

Slander against Washington by his political enemies is without evidence and repudiated of those most closely associated with him. He was admired so much and respected by those closest to him that his own step-son, Martha's son by her first husband, named his son George Washington Park Custis after his step father first, not his natural father.

"Many of Freemasonry’s most disconcerting aspects (many of which were borrowed from the antichristian Babylonian Talmud) were in full force in the framers’ day: its self-maledictory oaths (not to Yahweh, His Word, or Christianity, but to the Masonic fraternity), its toleration of polytheism, its secular and humanist ethics, and its promotion of gender equality:

'The Freemasonry of the 1700’s is still basically the same [as that of today]. The concept of the Enlightenment period has not changed. What Masons of that day believed, so do the Masons of today. Freemasonry was not radically different.... [A]nti-Masons … cannot … explain why such great men as Washington, Lafayette and Paul Revere were members. …the basic beliefs of the fraternity are the same." (Richard E. Fletcher, Post Grand Master and Executive Secretary of the Masonic Service Association of North America, email, 4 December 2008.)

"Freemasons do not meet the criteria of true Christians:

'Of course Christians can pray in lodge! What they may not do is offer a specifically Christian prayer as Lodge prayer, any more than a Jew or Muslim may offer a prayer specific to his religion. The reason for this is that it is the custom of Masonry to require all to participate and assent to Lodge prayer. How can it be proper for a Christian to require non-Christians to assent to a prayer peculiar to his own peculiar belief? No Christian would assent to a prayer offered by a Jew or Muslim which essentially denied the doctrine of the trinity. Because Lodge acts in unison, prayers offered in Lodge must be of a nature that will be agreed to by all.

'To be sure, some Christians believe that only prayers given in a particularly Christian form are truly prayers. These people cannot become Freemasons because they do not subscribe to the principles of religious toleration required of Masons.' (Roger Firestone, “Difficult Questions About Freemasonry,” &lt ;http://web.mit.edu/dryfoo/Masonry/Questions/difficult.html>.)

"In other words, any 'Christian' Freemason, such as Washington, had to reject Christ’s exclusionary declaration in order to be a Freemason:

'Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.' (John 14:6)"

        • Ithamar

Ted, you don't have a clue as to what Washington either did, prayed, said or believed as a Freemason, nor does anyone else. I have never been a Mason, nor have I ever had a desire to be one, yet my grandfather and my father-in-law were. While I do not know what they did at their Masonic meetings, both men were avowed, professing Christians with no toleration for immorality, blasphemy or heresy, as both were knowledgeable, doctrinally educated church members and officers in their Bible believing, hell fire preaching, Jesus alone saving churches - one a Baptist the other old Southern Methodist (George Whitefield kind). What I do know is that people like yourself who go off the deep end with some wild-haired conspiracy theory paint anyone and everyone in anyway associated with your special little red herring as knowledgeable evildoers. You need to be a little more careful how you paint with your self righteous broad brush of condemnation.

        • TedRWeiland

Matthew 7:21-23 (and similar passages) makes it clear that a profession of faith alone is not enough to demonstrate someone is a Christian. Furthermore, anyone who has studied Freemasonry knows it and genuine Christianity are not compatible.

        • Ithamar

Ted, your simplistic replies are both arrogant and ignorant, not to mention presumptuous as to know not only the heart of man but also of God. Pray tell, what is your divine judgment upon Naaman who, though he knew that there was no God but the God of Israel, leaned on the arm of his heathen Rimmon worshiping king of Syria when the king led him into the temple to pray?

        • TedRWeiland

Ithamar, I think you had better read your emails about me and "clean your own plow first."

Can a Mason also be a Christian? My grandfather was a 32 degree Mason and also attended the Congregational Church. My father was a long time Mason and, when he became a Christian, left Masonry because he considered it to be demonic. As for George Washington, our country owes him such a deep debt of gratitude that I don't think we should sully his record with his connection to Masonry.

As awful as these facts appear, yes, I believe Lincoln could be re-elected. Look at the president we have sitting in the White House today. At least Lincoln didn't openly denigrate the country as Obama regularly does. At least we know that Lincoln was a natural born American citizen, unlike the imposter citizen who hides and locks up everything in his past. Yes, if Lincoln was the Democratic nominee, he would get re-elected and have the MSM at his disposal to paint whatever picture would make him most palatable. I believe Lincoln did care greatly about the country and keeping it whole.

    • Michael P

Keeping the country whole, at what cost? Not just 650,000 dead his war left a LOT of animosity. He gave this dictatorship of the Federal government. He set several dangerous precedents B.O. is not above following. The truth about this president has been concealed for FAR too long.

      • 1599

Lincoln may not be crooked enough to get elected today. But he sure was evil enough, Wrecking the Ecology of the Great plains and committing Genocied on a million or so Natives by Killing Billions Of Buffalo(Bison for the snooty folks), so the robber barons could waltz their railroads all over the country and the Confederacy had no meat. Sure he "freed the Slaves" but at What cost? Lincoln was no more Honest that Obama is.
      .

  • FlaJim

Lincoln has always been at the bottom of my list of presidents (right beneath FDR) and for all of the reasons in this article. My favorite presidents are Reagan, Polk, Jefferson, and Coolidge. If you're unfamiliar with them, look them up.

Lincoln was allied with and financed by wealthy manufacturers in the northeast. The South was financing 80% of the federal government through excessive tariffs. The only purpose of his illegal Emancipation Proclamation was to try to create a fifth column in the South. It failed. A close examination of his life illustrates a man who was an opportunist, in one example, breaking a wedding engagement after meeting the wealthier and uglier Mary Todd.

    • Michael

This must be why o puts compares himself with Lincoln, Wilson and FDR.
      Do you think?

    • Cincinnatus

May I ask a question? Who was president when the first shots were fired: (At Fort Sumter)? Ans: James Buchanan. The civil was had been festering long before Lincoln was elected, and his alliance with the wealthy manufacturers in the northeast did not materialize until after he was elected. In the election of 1860, Lincoln was not even on the ballot in all the states. He won the election, and eventually the war, because the South could not actually coalesce into a cohesive political unit. If the south had won, the U.S. would have become a balkanized set of individual little countries, each trying to survive on its own, and prey to any larger state wanting to gobble them up one by one. Check out a short history of south western Europe.

      • FlaJim

Wrong. The first shots were fired by northern troops at Harper's Ferry (maybe Hampton Roads -- I forget) and after Virginia had seceded. Lincoln was inaugurated in Mar, 1861, and his campaign was financed by NE manufacturers who were getting really sweet export tariff treatment. The action at Ft Sumter was over a month later.

The CSA was as cohesive as the USA at the time. It uniformly opposed being required to finance most of the federal government. Most historians agree that, had the South won the war or hadn't been invaded, they'd have rejoined the union once the northerners agreed to a more just system of taxation.

  • Ron

Lincoln was just as bad as what we have today. He did a lot of things wrong. He was the cause of the Civil War. They spun him to look like some kind of hero. He is over rated. About time people started finding out the truth.

    • Edwin

Ron, You are wrong about Abraham Lincoln! He was a great president!

    • Wyatt

Lincolon was not the cause of the Civil War , that would have happened even had he not been elected . Southern states were looking for any excuse to quit the Union as they wanted the individual states to govern them selves rather than the Federal government , much like Europe today . Well we all see what a fiasco and mess that is don't we ! As to if he was a hero or not , I don't know . However he did hold the Union togeather and that alone was his sole aim to begin with . " A House divided , can not stand " . The great lie that the Civil War was fought to free the slaves is one of the great lies promoted by the news papers , the mass media of its day . Doubt it ? The Spanish American War was triggered by publisher Randolph Hurst .." Remember the Maine!" he trumpeted . The Maine sunk due to an internal explosion in a powder magazine adjacent to a coal bunker that was burning and super heated the deck surfaces, forensic analysis of the photographs taken when wreck was raised shows that damage was caused by an outward explosion . Hull plates bent outward . At any rate , could lincoln get elected today ? You bet he could ! And he would be a far better President than what we have now and better than most that have held the office .

    • 1599

Good post Ron. Lincoln has been glorified by twisted history.

  • George

By the reading of these comments and this article. It seems that no one could be elected in this country as you are all looking for the perfect candidate. Well there isn't one unless you are expecting Jesus to run.. As we have cycled through all the candidates, from Palin now to Santorum lets quit our own Civil War and solidify on the one who really has a chance to win this thing. That candidate may not be perfect but we NEED to settle this. So quit whining and start looking to the future. Our country is in enough trouble with who we have got now. There is no use in bringing up dead candidates for the purpose of bemoaning our fate and somehow this makes us feel better.. We have a responsibility to live now . Love Lincoln, hate Lincoln...if he had not done all he did (even the "bad" stuff) there would be no United States today. And had he lived, Reconstruction would not have been the rapacious and scarring process it was. Sure, Lincoln suspended many civil liberties while in office, and operated as a dictator...but he relinquished power after the emergency. Both he and Washington walked away from absolute power, and that is what makes both of them so morally superior to any other president.

As to whether Lincoln could be president today...doubt he could even place in Iowa. Monkey ugly, less eloquent than a Texas governor, more baggage than a redcap, married to a loon, and subject to fits of depression. Not in this period of media-glossy candidates.

    • MLH

Lincoln did not walk away from absolute power. He was assassinated. Andrew Johnson is the one who removed the Emergency by proclamation. I read it myself in the Legislative History of Congress and it was the same proclamation that made Thanksgiving a Federal Holiday! :))))

They might not have called it the United States But most of the Original 13 state would have undoubtably remained in some sort of mutual union. If the Rebels had won the Civil War Califronia would probably not be the laughingstock it is to day.

  • http://www.america-betrayed-1787.com/georgewashington.html Dennis Oliver Woods

We'll never find a perfect candidate, but we should be looking for a candidate who meets the Biblical qualifications for public office. Because the U.S. Constitution failed to enumerate those we end up being governed by cultists like Washington and dictators like Lincoln. Our problem is the U.S. Constitution outlaws the requirement that our leaders meet any kind of religious criteria for holding public office (no religious test: Art VI, Sec 3). Article VI, Sec 1 also rejected the Bible as "the supreme law of the land" and in so-doing broke America's national covenant with God. Until we return to that I doubt that God will ever bless and prosper our political activity.

Washington and Lincoln may have walked away from absolute power, but not before inflicting irreparable damage on the nation. Washington set the stage for a consolidated government and Lincoln put it into practice. I can't see any moral superiority in that. Lincoln should have let the South go the same way God told Rehoboam to let Jeroboam go in a similar dispute over oppressive taxation.

    • Pineapple

When the South threatened to secede, Lincoln was asked why not let the South go? He said "Let South go? Let the South go! Where then shall we get our revenues?"

  • Paul

John Booth was right about Lincoln. He WAS a tyrant and refused the South's offer to exchange the prisoners in Andersonville for Southern prisoners. As a result, many at Andersonville died from disease. He set our country back by refusing to allow States to withdraw from the Union. The Civil war was anything but civil and established the Federal Government as pre-eminent, which was never intended by the founding fathers.

    • Wyatt

Just as many Confederate prisoners died in the camp outside Chicago . And had Lincoln exchanged prisoners the war would have gone on longer and even more been killed . It is wise to note , there were no prisoner exchanges during WWI or WWII . Nor in Korea or VietNam . And anyone defending Booth should look to their own values , John Wilkes Booth was nothing more than a coward looking for fame and revenge .

  • Fenderman52

Several times during the Revolutionary War when things were looking hopeless, Washington called on the nation to hold a day of fasting and prayer (a practice which Jesus told His disciples was our most powerful tool.) Washington said that the results were so profound that even the most ardent atheist could not fail to marvel at the obvious deliverance that it evoked. Not a Christian? That's total unadulterated 200 Proof Bull. By the way if we'd organize a few days of "fasting and prayer" we could change the course of this nation from the disaster that we are hell-bent for.

“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”- George Washington

Carl Marx, once wrote that, the goal of the Communists was to quote,. “enter into men’s minds and cast God down from his throne.”

Matthew 12:31Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

In ancient Babylon their economy was based on usury.
“If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not be like a moneylender; charge him no interest. Exodus 22:25
Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him. Ezekiel 18:13
Usury is unlawful; expressly prohibited by GOD!
Article 1 Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states that only the Congress can print and coin money!

The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 was slipped thru congress during the Christmas break with the majority of it’s members absent.

The Federal Reserve is self serving and privately owned in violation to the Constitution, charging interest on illegally printed money. Money printed from nothing!
In America On June 4, 1963, a virtually unknown Presidential decree, Executive Order 11110, was signed with the authority to basically strip the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the United States Federal Government at interest. With the stroke of a pen, President Kennedy declared that the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank would soon be out of business. Five months later A UNITED STATES PRESIDENT, PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY was MURDERED BY COMMUNIST!

In ancient Babylon their priest sacrificed babies to their gods baal, and molech.
In America the communist under their socialist programs have sacrificed over 50 million American babies to their god satan!
    Leviticus 20:2-5
2Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel , Whosoever he be of the children of Israel , or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel , that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.
3And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.
4And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not:
5Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.

Luke 22:35-36 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. 36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

Jeremiah 50:16Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the SICKLE in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.
Jeremiah 50:23How is the HAMMER OF THE WHOLE EARTH CUT ASUNDER AND BROKEN! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!
BABYLON = the HAMMER and SICKLE!

Jeremiah 50:14 “ Put yourselves in array against Babylon all around, All you who bend the bow; Shoot at her, spare no arrows, For she has sinned against the LORD.

All nations compassed me about: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them. Psalm 118:10

Then, why did they kill him?

  • William Grcia

Is it true that the jesuits killed him?

  • Larry

Is the SOB Barrack Obama going to change his name again or compare himself to another great person that is not as great as he is in his own eye's. The only thing great about Obama is his fat head and his own worth per Obama.

  • Hank

The only point worth pondering today is how to get rid of the anointed one presently in office and the liberals in congress that agree with him. Can't do anything about the past but we best darn well do something about the future or the US will go down in history books as a failed experiment. Join a Tea Party, get involved and help correct our direction.

Why is this being asked? Are we on the brink of another Civil War?

    • Co-opted Confederate

The brink you speak of is just a few baby steps out of reach right now, but when the as you called it "next Civil War" happens it will make the first one look like a Sunday school Picnic, and tea time for the ladies. If you must: hold your breath and close your eyes and pull the covers over your head but what ever you do or think it will be here before you know it.

Like it's been said anybody is better than obama.

One of the more common sections, Lincoln said over an over to help everyone with political context of the times. He most assuredly wanted to Free blacks and cited the declaration of Indepedence over and over in the debates.

    Lincoln:

"“I should like to know if taking this old Declaration of Independence, which declares that all men are equal upon principle, and making exceptions to it where will it stop. If on man says it does not mean a negro, why may not another say it does not mean some other man? If the declaration is not the truth, let us get the statue book in which we find it and tear it out! Who is so bold as to do it! If it is not true let us tear it out!”"

  • M. Gene Gouge

Lincoln would fit right in with Obama,Jesse Jackson, Acorn,Bill Clinton and the Black Panthers.Recent events have amply proved there's still a market for corrupt politicians>

      Really ????????????

Would slavery be an issue in 2012? If it was, the answer is yes. Lincoln, after all, instituted the FIRST income tax. Expect the Tea
Party to get after him for that.

  • julian

I would not vote for him, like Bush Sr. he promised one thing and then did another. If congress had impeached Bush when he did this we would have far better representation now. Politicians are like teenagers the more you let them get away with the more crap they will do.

  • Co-opted Confederate

Think Humongus labor unions and forced membership in order to work.in lieu of slavery. Get the Picture?

If the North had lost the war, we would probably today either have a balanced constitutional republic where States rights are strong and where the federal government is the correct size...or its possible the whole country might have gotten taken over and split up by other european catholic dominated countries that hated the protestant success of America. If interested see this book called The Transformation of the Republic by CT Wilcox: http://ctwilcox.com/reviews.asp

Since when did the collective of morons (American electorate) start "scrutinizing"? Look at the Marxist Commie bufoon they put in the White House"

"If Lincoln ran for president today would he win? Not if his views were scrutinized like other presidential candidates, unless of course, he was running as a Democrat."

  • chris

Our sovereign God is Whom we must trust. Men are fallible. But there is little value in painting with a broad brush, pressing 21st century perspectives on a president from the 1800's, and undercutting our nations history that has provided the greatest freedoms we currently enjoy. A stench of arrogant superiority is evident as one spits on the grave of those who've gone before us.

  • Viet Vet

Lincoln was a racist. He wanted to send all blacks back to Africa. Check his speeches prior the election in 1860.

Comparing President Lincoln to B.O. is like comparing a bird to a rat.

  • Darrell Wallace

Lincoln, was an agnostic all of his life (accroding to his law partner,William Herndon) ref. America's Caesar by Greg Loren Durand). Some of his critics called him a "Buffoon". (ref. "The complete book of U.S. Presidents " by William A. Degregorio)
Author Greg Loren Durand in his book, "America's Caesar" describes him as just that = America's first Caesar" Lincoln thumbed his nose at the Constitution when it didn't suit him as to his agenda. Durand aptly describes Lincoln's reign as the beginning of the decline and fall of the Republican Government in the United States of America.
Along this line of thinking, Obama has said he wanted to be like Lincoln. Will he wind up having the blood of 650,000 Americans on his hand also?

  • Peter S. Chamberlain

Win? Are you kidding? Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Teddy Roosevelt, Taft, Lincoln, Ford, Dole, McCain, etc., or the Good Lord, couldn't get the nomination much less win the election today on either party's ballot. When the "leaders" and "front-runner" are down around 22% tops at this point, and the leaders and a lot of the grass roots supporters of the divergent factions want to throw whole groups and their choices out of the Republican party, a lot of these would rather have a nominee exactly tuned, or saying he is tuned, to their narrow litmus test than someone who can win, and the whole thing is determined on sound bytes and spin, we need to back up and start over. At the rate the GOP has been and is going, it is going to re-elect Obama no matter what Obama and the Democrats may foul up trying to win.
