Britain’s National Health System: A Glimpse into the Future Disaster of ObamaCare

NHS_cartoonWhen President Obama was pushing his health care system, he often referred to the national health systems in Canada and Great Britain as the examples we should follow.  So let’s hold our president to his word and take a look at the current state of Great Britain’s National Health System (NHS) to see where we are headed.

First I want to relay what happened to a friend of mine in Great Britain about ten years ago or so.  She developed gall bladder problems and her doctor said that her gall bladder needed to be removed.  In order to get this covered by the NHS, she had to get it approved and scheduled through the NHS system.  From the time she was told the gall bladder needed to be removed to the day of the surgery was nearly 9 months.  If any of you have ever had gall bladder problems, you will know how painful it is and how difficult it is eat and enjoy a meal.  This lovely lady went through 9 months of agony waiting for the NHS take care of her.

Today, the East London area covered by the NHS has reduced coverage in an effort to cut expenses.  They are starting to ration out operations for hip replacements, cataracts, tonsillectomies and others.  According to one report, this is a list of some of the NHS rationing:

* Hip and knee replacements only being allowed where patients are in severe pain. Overweight patients will be made to lose weight before being considered for an operation.

* Cataract operations being withheld from patients until their sight problems “substantially” affect their ability to work.

* Patients with varicose veins only being operated on if they are suffering “chronic continuous pain”, ulceration or bleeding.

* Tonsillectomy (removing tonsils) only to be carried out in children if they have had seven bouts of tonsillitis in the previous year.

* Grommets to improve hearing in children only being inserted in “exceptional circumstances” and after monitoring for six months.

The Birmingham area is also looking at having to reduce operations in gastroenterology, gynecology, dermatology and orthopedics.  Medway is postponing or deferring treatment of procedures that are not deemed as being immediately necessary and Dorset is looking at ways to reduce the number of procedures being performed.

Yes Mr. President, this sure looks like a great program to model after to me.  NOT!

All these "big shots" who keep telling us how GREAT socialized medicine is are liars. HOW do we know this? Simple!…NONE of them move to Cuba or Britain or anywhere else! They have ALL the money in the world and they stay here! Plus did you notice how WEIRD it is that people in places like Cuba are LITERALLY dying to come here? how can that be if socialism is so great? Why would they risk their lives to flee it? MAN, they must all be really stupid to not realize how good they have it….What is weird is you never hear about Americans risking their lives to get into Mexico, Canada or Cuba…. .www.kjv-truth-ministries.org We need to stop electing people who hate this country!

Commiecrats were undoubtedly aware of this when they passed the program. It shows what a compassionate group commiecrats are. They were for slavery, fought reconstruction, believed in segregation, fought the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and now have passed a program which will make everyone slaves, just as they have always wanted.

If ObamaCare is so great why did he exempt himself and his family, and his cronies as well as the senate and congress and special buddies I think it is time politions were ruled by the same laws as every one else, and that includes social security.

Because our compassionate congress didn't want to take that money from peoplethat work everyday to pay their bills? What a kind act, eh?—

For the record, i am already experiencing rationing. I am a disabled senior and recently had my Medicare benefits cut, ie: assistance at home for things I am unable to do. God forbid that I might need surgery for one of my health problems. I'm sure I would be too "OLD" to justify surgery. I am infuriated that AARP is condoning obamabinladincare. This obamanation must be repealed and the socialist-in-chief removed. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Neither system is without it's problems, both are a work in progress. They are very different and in some ways incomparable… like apples and oranges. In the UK No member of society is left with no medical cover from the cradle to the grave, In the USA legal American citizens are actively and purposefully discrimintaed against especially when it comes to healthcare. Only those who can afford insurance receive the best of care and many parts of society are left without cover Preventative medicine is not practiced to ensure the nations overall health, that said there is more room for innovative treatments with a wider range of services. remember it is the individual who pays for good health. They either pay into it through taxes or they pay for it after through insurance policies. Healthcare is never "free"

Due to buying power of the NHS the cost of medicines is much lower whereas in the USA the cost of medicine is significantly more expensive due to political issues.

As a Uk citizen I rarely visited my doctor unless I had a life threatening illness, I myself had a gall bladder problem which was treated efficiently without the long wait your friend suffered. I have varicose veins, they cause me no problems therefore I see no reason to remove them except for aesthetic (vanity) reasons. My tonsills were removed after a quinzy when I was 21 prior to that I had suffered little from tonsilitus. I dont have cateracts and have not needed grommits. If I was asked to loose wight due to hip/knee replacement being required I would think it a wise request as being overweight would put unecessry pressure on a weakened recovering joint. _ _Rationing surgery is in and of itself not a bad thing, stipulating certain requirements such as loosing weight is actually good philosophy and will help in the rehabilitation of the individual plus reducing risks of surgery under anesthetic. It will also cost the system less in aftercare and benefits.

What I have noticed whilst staying in the USA is the over reliance of the drug/pharmaceutical industry. That is what drives your healthcare system. Perhaps politicians could begin to address the over dependence on prescription pain medication which initself breads a sub culture of buying and selling these highly addictive medications and breads a society of socially acceptable drug addicts. Healthcare is big business in America. It hires a lots of folk. Unfortunately the UK is following suit, with much of the money funding administration rather than actual care. You might like to address the cost of medical care. Whilst in turkey, a supposidly 3rd world country, my son required orthopoedic surgery for a broken wrist the cost was about $800. In comparison my boyfriend recently required a similar surgery in the USA, he is an american citizen .. so far his bill is at least $15,000 all of which he has to pay himself as whilst he has paid taxes all his life he doesnot qualify for medicare. The joke being that if I myself had sustained the injury, although I am not an american citizen I would qulaify for medicaid. Ridiculous! The American healthcare system is the most expensive and the most inadequate system in the developed world.

The Great Black Father in Washington has promised his children quality health care. I don't buy it, it is hard enough today to find good quality doctors yet alone health care. There have ben times after seeing a doctor, listening to the Dr's advice, taking medication and still have no relief from whatever the condition was. I have thought to myself maybe I should have gone the the vet who has been treating my other family members with very, very good results!
