Who’s the Real Villain in the Debt Talks?

news agency logosThe number one news story for the past month has been the debt talks taking place on Capitol Hill.  Depending on which news agency you read or listen to, the villain or villains in the debt talks vary.  Some blame President Obama, others blame Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats, some blame John Boehner and the House Republicans and some are vilifying Tea Party members.

In reality, the media pointing the finger of blame at others is the real villain in the debt talks more so than those they are blaming.

Every news agency is biased based on their own political views and agendas and depending on what their views are determines what and how they report what is going on.

Bob Schieffer of CBS is one of many using scare tactics by claiming that Social Security checks won’t be sent out if Congress doesn’t act by August 2.  Sandra Endo of CNN similarly reported from a senior center with the threat of halted Social Security and Medicaid payments if the debt ceiling is not raised.

Brian Williams of NBC’s Dateline, is trying to fuel the debate by demanding a response from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to the question of why rich folks should not pay more in taxes, even though the latest Democratic proposal in the Senate has removed a tax hike as part of their plan.  And Sam Stein of the Huffington Post is claiming that the Republican plan will actually hurt the economy and recovery efforts by not increasing taxes.

Some other news agencies report that if the debt talks are not resolved and the debt ceiling raised in the next 4 days that the US will default on its debt obligations, interest rates will rise, our military will not get paid, seniors will be left destitute, welfare recipients will be left without their programs and on.  If you listen to all of them, the country will come to a screeching halt leaving thousands of soldiers and seniors and welfare recipients high and dry.

Yet at the same time, many politicians are stating that this will not happen.  It has been reported that President Obama has told banks that the US will not default.  Other politicians have stated that the military will still get paid and that seniors will continue to get their Social Security checks.

What is the truth?  Does anyone really know?

One thing is for sure.  The media is the real villain to the American public by distorting the truth.

    It's about time at least one source has spotlighted the media's culpability in this debt ceiling-budget balancing debacle. Media sources ADORE keeping the pot boiling. Without it, they have no news at all to report, and hence, their bottom line suffers. This should come as no surprise to anyone, but there are those in the general public who actually believe guys like Schiffer and his ilk. Frightening the elderly and the military is their specialty. The public should heed some well-intentioned advice, like "Believe NOTHING you hear, and even LESS of what you see" from the media. Instead, think for yourself. YOU, NOT the media, will most usually be accurate.

    If our media prints or anounces it you can bet it is false. Long ago our news media stoped printing and reporting the news they now make it, by presenting what they preceive as being newsworthy,laying facts and truth aside. So sad.

    I remember some time back, probably about 15 or 20 years ago, NBC had a special report on how Ford pick-ups, if involved in a side impact collision, would explode. It was exposed that explosive charges were placed next to the feul tank so the truck would explode into flames on impact. NBC's reason for putting the explosives in the trucks was, "We couldn't seem to get the feul tanks to ignite."

    Responsible journalism has gone into the toilet. They make up news and fabricate stories and sell it as truth. Kind of like the snake oil salesman.

    Folks, I'm going to show my age. When I was a kid, there was a House committee called the House Un-American Activities committee. Its chairman was a gentleman named Joe McCarthy. They were investigating Communists who had infiltrated the entertainment industry, news agencies, and government agencies. McCarthy was berated and persecuted by the liberals of his day. After the fall of the old Soviet Union in the 1980's, KGB files were declassified. Turns out that he was right about all his allegations. Today, a person can commit an act of treason against our country and not worry about punishment. That committee needs to be brought back.

    The real problem is the American people not understanding what rational thinking is. See the new book Rational Thinking, Government Policies, Science, and Living. Rational thinking starts with clearly stated principles, continues with logical deductions, and then examines empirical evidence to possibly modify the principles.

    It's a close tie, as to who has done the most to scare Seniors and Military that this debt
    ceiling debate could be the crisis that stops their checks. The TOP TWO Villains are
    the Media …………. and The President, and his many henchmen, ie, Jay Carney, Press
    Secretary, Tim Geithner, Treasury Secretary, etc.
    BUT the uninformed who only get their info from Local news outlets and newspapers
    are CONVINCED the culprits are 1) The Tea Party members of Congress , and 2)
    ALL OF THE Republican Party.
    It's a sad commentary, with all of the technology out there, that the majority of our
    people are still so easily mislead. I THINK Democrats are counting on this fact !

    I do my part, to inform and educate as many people as possible to the truth.
    My hope is , that if those of us who understand the deception and manipulation
    being perpetuated by the Democrats AND this President, work on informing
    our friends and families, WE can make a positive difference.

    That is why I don't listen to the main-stream media. It is there job to report on facts and not what they feel. The facts should be presented and let the people decide for themselves.

    I think you all have missed it and Obama has hog-swaggled us all AGAIN! No one is really willing to ADMIT THE TRUTH. Obama is the enemy and he has a very targeted assignment- TAKE AMERICA DOWNNNNNNNNNN ! He won the debit debacle! Think about it! He gets to spend almost 100% of what he had submitted for his 11/12 budget and cuts are minimized. Legislatively the amount he spends every ten days will take ten years to cut. He and his socialist commie associates got what they wanted because the USA is still on the same track to destruction. NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!!!! and will NOT change til Obama can be removed along with his czars and some decent commmonsense people can be elected to Congress. All those McCain like republicans need to be REPLACED ASAP as well as the Harry Reid/Pelosi
