Nation’s First Constitutional Carry Law Passes New Hampshire House

OPEN-CARRY-CACurrently, 49 states have a concealed carry law allowing gun owners to apply for a permit that will allow them carry a concealed firearm on their person or in their vehicle.  Some states recognize and honor the conceal permits from other states. That is except New York where the Manhattan District Attorney is prosecuting a former marine now jeweler for voluntarily checking his concealed weapon when entering the Empire State Building and showing his Indiana conceal carry permit.

New Hampshire is now willing to take gun ownership a step further by passing the nation’s first constitutional carry law.

State representative JR Hoell sponsored House Bill 536 that recognizes the Second Amendment right to carry a firearm without having to first obtain a license or permit from state or federal government.  HB 536 has passed the New Hampshire House and now goes to the state senate for approval.

Constitutional carry is a great step towards securing the rights of gun owners, however the way the New Hampshire law is written, it does not go far enough.  It does not cover the rights to carry a concealed weapon in school zones nor does it meet the requirements of the Brady Law.

Since the constitutional carry law does not require a gun owner to obtain a permit, anyone traveling out of the state would need to obtain a concealed carry permit or they would be in violation of that states laws.

Hopefully, other states will follow New Hampshire’s example and pass their own constitutional carry laws and allow American’s to fully exercise their Second Amendment rights to bear and carry firearms as our Founding Fathers intended.

Your story is inaccurate. Arizona not only has a Constitutional carry law it DOES recognize the citizens right to carry concealed without a permit. The state does have a program whereby you can obtain a state-issued permit that allows you to carry in 37 other states due to reciprocity agreements.

Vermont and Alaska even bear Arizona to the punch. There is no law there against Concealed Carry. I'd call that true Constitutional Carry law – that is no law at all. A law that states that you have the right infers that there can be a law that revokes that right. Bette would be to remove all laws that make carrying illegal.

If it is going to the Senate for approval, then it is not a law yet, it's still a bill.

New Hampshire should put legal wording on all driver's license and state ID stating that it is a permit for out of state use.

New York's obsession with disarming its citizens is problematic enough to compel me to forever stay away.
Again……guns don't kill people. People do.

    • D Rash

And since it is democrats always wanting to disarm, not republicans, we could say "Guns don't kill people, democrats do"! The same thing would apply to abortion, also back officially in the democratic national platform.

They want to be able to herd them like cows when the time comes for them to take all freedom away from their citizens, if they dare to disobey, commands.

You are right. Dissarm the citizens first. Then the Government can do what ever it wants without fear from the Citizen.

It's embarrasing to see people who obviously aren't checking their facts write articles like this. Arizona has "Constitutional Carry" as does Vermont and Alaska. One other state has recently passed their own cc law as well, making NH the 5th state, if this passes it's liberal governor's desk (which it won't – the governor has already declared that he doesn't believe the people of NH have rights, and will veto any such bill).

Number 4 was Wyoming. Several states are working on Constitutional Carry. It's good to see liberty breaking out all over.

Therein lies a huge problem!! How many of are passionate about our GOD, our freedom, or our laws. The country is crumbling because of our lack of passion about these things. We simply do not gave a ____? Our attitude is, "Let somebody else…………….!!

PA is halfway there,CC permits are not difficult & a big move in the right direction was Gov Corbett’s redefinition of the Castle Doctrine

KEEPING AND BEARING ARMS IS NOT A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT- IT IS A GOD GIVEN RIGHT. Our 2nd Amendment does not grant any right, it merely disallows ANY abridgment of our already existing God given right to defend ourselves. This is a key point, because it acknowledges our individual Sovereignty, which places American Citizens on the same level with any king, queen, or head of a church, and ABOVE any governments, which derive their power solely by the consent of the governed. Consent, where it exists, is freely given, and may be freely withdrawn at any time. Our Founders were clear that our government served "at pleasure during a period of good behavior", and no longer.

  • Mike Murray

Anyone who suppresses the Constitution is worse than an terroist and should be dealt with appropriately. The right to "keep" AND "bear" arms is clearly spelled out in the Constitution, at least it is for anyone who can read plain English. To attempt to negate that makes one who has sworn to uphold the Constitution a traitor and worthy of the proscribed punishment.

Arizona, Alaska, and I believe Vermont all have laws protecting the right not only to own and carry a weapon, but to carry it concealed without a license or permit required.  I believe Vermont was first, followed by Alaska and Arizona, respectively.  This has been going on for a number of years.
