Imprisoned Taliban Leaders Being Sent to Qatar, Future Home of Taliban Office

esmaeeli20120109174213470Reports are leaking from Washington that a high ranking White House official met with 8 senators on Tuesday, to brief them on plans to send some of the Taliban leaders being currently imprisoned at Guantánamo Bay, to jails in the Arab nation of Qatar.

The senators that were briefed included four Democrats (Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Intelligence Committee co-head Dianne Feinstein, Senate Armed Services co-chief Carl Levin, Senate Foreign Relations Committee co-leader John Kerry) and four Republicans (Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Intelligence Committee co-head Saxby Chambliss, Senate Armed Services chief John McCain, Senate Foreign Relations Committee co-leader Richard Lugar).

Although none of the senators made any comments after the briefing, several indicated prior to it that it had to do with the ongoing attempt of the Obama administration to reconcile with the Taliban.  Prior to the meeting Sen Levin said,

“It depends on what assurances we have from the [Qatari] government that they are not going to be released.  But I also think the Afghans have to be very much involved in any discussions and any process. They weren’t for a while.”

“We’re not releasing them. As I understand it they will be imprisoned in Qatar.  But can the Qataris be trusted to keep them behind bars? That’s the question.”

I think Sen McCain expressed it better when prior to the briefing he said,

“The whole idea that they’re going to ‘transfer’ these detainees in exchange for a statement by the Taliban? It is really, really bizarre.  This whole thing is highly questionable because the Taliban know we are leaving. I know many experts who would say they are rope-a-doping us.”

Earlier this month I wrote about the efforts of the Taliban to open an office in the tiny nation of Qatar.  So let me ask why would we be sending jailed Taliban leaders to be jailed in a country that will be the only country in the world to have an official Taliban business office?  How stupid and naïve can Obama be, or is it because he wants these Muslim extremists to be eventually freed?  Is that what Obama negotiated?

Our pathetic gov officials are gleefully caving to the enemy thu appeasement policies and piss-poor decisions….like turning the enemy over to the enemy so that the enemy won't be our enemy.

An appeaser has been described as someone who continues to feed the crocodile with the hope that he will be the last one eaten. Washington DC is rife with appeasers, who are clueless about how America should react to a world of predators who would delight in our demise. They are on the menu and don't realize it.

IMO those appeasers ought to be dispatched by the electorate in the upcoming elections….or… sent to the field of battle where they can put into play all of their obsequious, concilatory moves to get the enemy to play nice. We'll see how that works out for them.

Qatar is the richest country in the world! Everything is free there (college, insurance, etc.) did anyone see 60 Minutes a couple of weeks ago? They have beautiful new skyscrapers designer clothing stores, luxury automobiles, etc. everything is free. No taxes, college, symphony orchestras playing in their free hospitals with the most advanced health care. So even they are put in prison they will probably be enjoying their flat screen tvs and ordering steak and lobster from room service. We have a bunch of idiots in our government!

Neville Chamberlain took the same approach in dealing with Hitler before all hell broke loose in Europe. Have we learned nothing of dealing with evil and terrorists? The moves of these 8 senators (who evidently share the same brain cell) just echo Chamberlains' tactics. Too bad these 8 skipped history class when they had the chance…too bad for us.

  • SEAN MURRY

    No apeasement.

  • TOO INFORMED

Aw, gee whiz. Those poor terrorist are being persecuted again. Send them back home providing they promise to be good little boys and girls and never break the law again. I'm sure they will listen and change their ways. I also have a bridge to sell.

"ongoing attempt of the Obama administration to reconcile with the Taliban." inclusion of Muslim Brotherhood inside of Homeland security and the White House, the recent deaths of our CIA agents active in the Middle East , what more is needed to see that Obama is not going to serve the best interest of the United States but the Taliban's, and other Muslim Extremest?

Why can't we send verified Taliban or other mujadeen 'leaders' to a firing squad instead of wasting fuel sending the scum to Qatar?

What do you expect from our Muslem president and his buddies. We all knew this was comming one way or another. Remember the muslems they released eailer in the past years. They all went back to trying to kill our servicemen. Obama is trying everything he can to appease his muislem buddies in the middle east and here in the US as Far as I a,m concerned they should release them in a row boat and then fire a rocket to sink the boat and let them rot at the bottom of the ocean

Asssumeing he does not appoint himself dictator for life when congress is sleeping, on his final day in office he will probably give them all presidential pardons anyway.

The list of leaders being briefed reads like the leadership of a neo-communist/jihadic/anti-American group. Could mr obama see fit to send these politicians to Qatar for the remainder of their political careers?
