Obama Says Jesus Would Support Taxing the Rich

rich young rulerDon’t you just love it when Liberals turn to the Bible for support of their policies? How many times have you heard Liberals tell us that “Jesus never got mixed up in politics” or “We’re not supposed to Judge” or “You can’t impose your morality on other people” or “There’s a separation between church and state”? Liberal hypocrisy knows no bounds.

At the National Prayer Breakfast, the President said that as “a person who has been ‘extraordinarily blessed,’ he is willing to give up some of the tax breaks he enjoys because doing so makes economic, and religious sense.” Then why doesn’t he? No one’s stopping him from giving more money to the government if he wants to. Just do it and quit talking about it!

There is not a single word in the Bible that directs the State to confiscate money from the rich to enlarge the power and authority of civil government. Governments can’t follow the Golden Rule. Government doesn’t have any money to be gracious with. You can’t love your neighbor with someone else’s money. If I stole money from a rich person and gave it to a poor person, I would not be following the Golden Rule. President Obama wants to be benevolent with someone else’s money.

In biblical terms, the State is a minister of justice not a dispenser of benevolence (Rom. 13:1–4).

Jesus challenges the Rich Young Ruler to give his money to the poor not to Rome.

“Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, ‘One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me’” (Mark 10:21).

If the Roman government had taxed this young man and given his confiscated money to the poor, then what the man lacked would not have been challenged.

President Obama went on to say, “For me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’ teaching that for unto whom much is given, much shall be required” (Luke 12:48).  Notice that Jesus did not say “much shall be required by the State.”

Jesus was a Jew. There was no income tax under the Old Covenant. A sign of civil tyranny was a ten percent tax (1 Sam. 8). Rome heavily taxed its citizens and subjects. Is the President saying that he’s a modern-day Caesar and our government is like that of Rome? He may not be saying it, but that’s what it’s become.

Gleaning is the closest thing the Bible comes to in requiring the prosperous to help the poor (Lev. 19:9-10; 23:22; Deut. 24:19-21.). But gleaning is hard work. The owners of fields, vineyards, or orchards were not required to harvest the leftover grain. If the poor wanted to eat, they had to work for it. Paul most likely had these passages in mind when he wrote to the Thessalonians, “Don’t you remember the rule we had when we lived with you? ‘If you don’t work, you don’t eat’” (2 Thess. 3:10).

Wealth redistribution today is punitive; it’s about punishing the rich, not helping the poor. The rich don’t hoard their money. They loan it, invest it, and spend it. It’s these actions that help the less prosperous.

Government instituted poverty programs have only created more poor people, making them dependent on the State and less human.

Obama hasn't regularly attended church since he's been elected, the last "church" he attended, events like the minister cursing America from the pulpit was so commonplace that Obama couldn't even remember it, and now HE'S telling us about Jesus? The gall and hypocracy are overwhelming!

He(Obama) only uses God or Jesus in his speeches when it benefits Obama in some way. Right now, he has the religious groups at his throat for the health care law and it's mandatory requirements, so I see this latest move is a exercise to pull in some of the religious base back his way.
Obama first campaigner-in-chef, now he is preacher-in-chief. I never one person in my entire life that is so vain, arrogant, and self-serving as Mr. Obama. I am willing to bet he stands in front of the mirror every morning and admires himself, no doubt.
We need a LEADER, not a (not going to say the "s" word or I will be moderated). Thought America was freedom of speech?

On gleaning you said “The owners of fields, vineyards, or orchards were not required to harvest the leftover grain.”

    But to be more precise:
“The owners of fields, vineyards, or orchards were not required to NOT harvest the leftover grain.”

When it suits their liberal agenda, Liberals will always use the Bible and scripture to try to make their point. However, look the extreme hypocrisy Pelosi, Biden, and Obama are currently spewing regarding Obamacare and forcing Catholic organizations to provide contraceptives and paid abortions to their employees. But when Christians stand for their faith, Liberals always decry "separation of Church and state".

President Bush was constantly criticized and ridiculed for his TRUE faith and conviction in Christ. But he never used his faith to push an agenda unlike the current President does (notice I didn't use the word "our President").

Have you noticed Obama only uses Biblical scripture and will call himself a "Christian" when it suits his politics but yet never stands behind Bible and will never call himself a Christian when talking about his personal convictions?

    Was Jesus a flip flapper.

It's been estimated that, in 2008, there were 169 million registered voters in the United States (out of en eligible voting-age population of 212.7 million). Yet, only 169 million of them bothered to vote in the general election that year. The 36 million who didn't even bother to vote is a shameful reflection upon the value too many of us actually place on our Constitutional rights and freedoms!

I'm so tired of hearing the flaccid argument "What difference would my vote make?" When considered in conjunction with the fact that 36 million registered voters likely used that same excuse in 2008, the impact of this singular omission just may be the proximate cause of recent diminishing of American rights and freedoms, which may lead to social/economic Armageddon by the conclusion of 2012. Imagine the results if our next general election is cancelled by a declaration of Martial Law! Perhaps no one would ever enjoy the right to vote again and only a miracle would impact a reversal. Who, then, should we blame for the loss of American Exceptionalism after 232 years: The 36 million who didn't bother to vote in the 2008 general election?

    • billydon2012

Correction to billydon's computations: there were 169 million resgistered voters in 2008. Only 133 million of them bothered to vote, leaving 36 million who didn't even bother to visit the polls during the general election that year. History has a tendency to repeat, so please vote if you want to change the direction America has been traveling since then!

Jesus run all of the money changers out of the Temple. I believe if He were here today He would clean out the Congress, Senate, Judges, and the White House. As well as all the State Offices.

It's amazing what Jesus get's credit for and the blame as well when he has absolutely no involvement . Besides IF Barak were to see or hear from Jesus he wouldn't know who he was as he hasn't been to church in more than 3 years except for token Black churches to make a politcal speech. Maybe Jeremiah called him and told him what he had heard from the man since he's so close to God.. He, Brother Jeremiah, Jesse and Rev Al are all full of themselves and >>IT.

No more for the rich,no less for the poor.

  • SocialJustice

You are all missing the point here. Politicians have been accepting bribes from wealthy individuals and corporations to give away unfair advantages and tax treatments. In giving support to the Tax Reform Act of 1986, Pres. Reagan said that it is only fair that the wealthy pay the same tax rates as the rest of Americans. The capital gains tax and dividend income tax should be the same as earned income tax rates. Simple fairness. What the rest of you people are arguing is idiotic (including the author of this article).

I find it odd that a man that supports the killing of babies( by not standing against it you stand for it) and same sex marriages would have the guts to put words into Jesus' mouth. Mr. Obama please read the bible before you quote from it, the bible will tell you how to live and what to support.
