Top Pennsylvania House Democrat Convicted of Five Felonies Vows to Remain in Office

Tom Deweese2Do you believe that a person convicted of 5 felonies should be allowed to hold political office?

Pennsylvania House Democratic leader Bill DeWeese was convicted by a jury on Monday of five felony charges of theft and conspiracy.  DeWeese proclaims his innocence and vows to remain in his House seat and to seek re-election.

In a case that has been called Bonusgate, DeWeese was one of 25 people facing charges.  Of those 25 defendants, 6 were legislators and staff.  Fifteen people charged in Bonusgate have pleaded guilty.

Bonusgate became public when authorities were notified that a number of Democrats in the Pennsylvania state House of Representatives were conducting political campaigns from their offices using taxpayer dollars.

DeWeese said he was totally unaware of the campaign activity at taxpayer expense until after the investigation had begun.  However, Kevin Sidella was hired by DeWeese as a legislative aide to work on the political campaign activities.

DeWeese’s conviction automatically causes him to lose his state pension and once he is sentenced on April 24, he will lose his seat in the House even though he vows to remain and seek re-election.

Holding political office is a privilege in this country.  Men and women elected to represent the people should be held to higher standards and should be above any reproach or questionable character.  Therefore, anyone convicted of a felony by a jury should automatically and immediately be removed from holding office.  As such DeWeese should not have to step down, but should have lost his seat in the state House the moment the jury’s verdict was read and entered in the court records.

I hate to say it but it seems that this man is a typical Democrat. Not only a typical Democrat but typical of many public officials in the state of Pennsylvania , oh excuse me Pennsylvania is not a state they are a Commonwealth, which seems to me that they are above all laws set by the United States. I had a run-in with the Pennsylvania legal system years ago and was informed by my attorney that normal laws do not pertain in Pennsylvania.

People wonder why whenever Democrats take over one of the first things they do is raise taxes, and make sure everyone pays their taxes, which wouldn't be a bad thing except that they take a special exemption.
If you look at all the Democrats or most of them working in Obama's administration on his White House staff had unpaid taxes or other tax problems. The special exemption be a Democrat that means you will have to pay taxes.

First this is not a photograph of DeWeese. Second, if the man had any shred of dignity he would resign. He made an arogant statement the other day, that he would "die in office" and is still running right now for the next term. Shame on all the representatives in Pa for continuing to allow him on the House floor! He was there right after his conviction! The House has stated that he will be allowed to particapate and vote until his sentencing! While he has every right to appeal, I have every right to expect the laws of my state to be upheld! No felons on the House floor!
