Tax His Land, Tax His Bed, Tax the Table at Which He’s Fed

George Harrison was inspired to write the song “Taxman” (Revolver album, 1966). The Beatles were making a ton of money, but because of Britain’s “progressive” income tax, most of their earnings were being taken in taxes. As Harrison said, “‘Taxman’ was when I first realised that even though we had started earning money, we were actually giving most of it away in taxes.”

Harrison’s “Taxman” became a widely disseminated commentary on the confiscatory nature of governments. You can read the lyrics here. Here’s a video version showing Harrison with Eric Clapton singing it.

In the spirit of Harrison’s song, I’m posting the following from an anonymous author. Enjoy it and remember in November.

Tax his land, tax his bed,
Tax the table at which he’s fed.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes are the rule.

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirt,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco, tax his drink.
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his cigars, tax his beers,
If he cries, then tax his tears.

Tax his car, tax his gas,
Find other ways to tax his ass.
Tax all he has, then let him know
That you won’t be done ’til he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Tax him some more.
Tax him ’till he’s good and sore.
Then tax his coffin, tax his grave.
Tax the sod in which he’s laid.

Put these words upon his tomb,
“Taxes drove me to my doom.”
When he’s gone, do not relax.
It’s time to apply the inheritance tax.

Of course this restricts any kind of free enterprise and make is it so that is it is easier just to stay home on the dole which many Englishmen did and still do. We have a 39% tax on business that must go along with having a flat tax that everyone pays. We must make sure that staying a home and not working is no longer a option

Another reason to hate the Democratic-Socialist Party!

We hear you loud and clear.

Time is NOW for the flat tax, and EVERYBODY pays something, OR no one pays anything and we shall have anarchy.

    • PepperdotNet

Nobody paying anything doesn't mean anarchy. It means funding the government through other means, as was done prior to 1913.

    • grossyi

Slavery or anarchy are the only options? I think not. Freedom is not anarchy and it reigned supreme in this land until 1913. Anytime you are not allowed to keep the fruits of your labor, being forced to work for the benefit of others, you are a slave. Today we have replaced chains with taxes, but we're still slaves.

  • PepperdotNet

The United States Federal Government existed until 1913 without a direct Federal Income Tax and the army of jackbooted thugs (IRS) as its enforcement and collection agency. If it were reigned in to doing only its Constitutionally legitimate functions, it could do so again.

Think of what all that money could do if it were actually We The People deciding how to spend or save and invest our own money, instead of it being confiscated by nameless bureaucrats and poured down a rat hole.

Both parties are equally liable and culpable for allowing this monstrosity and its sibling the Federal Reserve to continually drain our people's wealth over the past 99 years. This is Reason Number One, of which there are many, why I voted for Ron Paul.

We are basically back in the dark ages of Europe where there were Barons, who owned the land, and the peons who labored on his land for a small share of the crops. It was called the Feudal System, and that's where we are at now. We slave away, and do not get to keep what we earn, because the heavy handed government steals our money by creating laws. If we paid something nominal and reasonable in taxes, then those on EBT and other welfare , and all those illegal aliens, will not get that anymore, and shall have to rely on working for themselves, and their families, and the charitable institutions.

No taxes would mean the military would work for free, not too bright an idea.

      • drdbiggs

Military did fine for over 100 years before big taxes & fed took over!

        • TheGizmo51

Good point, people always need a good fight and a strong well prepared military. Just the opposite of slaves, once we started paying them they disappeared.

        • BOTK

Military did fine with little taxes not with none. Today we can't do with little. Back then they didn't face such powerful dictators or terrorists as we do now. And the way the tax system worked before the income tax was extremely restrictive to free trade.

  • Lisa

Get rid of the income tax and go with a consumption tax! FairTax!

In June, I met a man working in a big box store. He previously had a very successful business in Nevada and was doing well exporting his product and selling in the American market. In the last few years, the fact that our government does not tax China for direct imports to the U.S. or protect patent rights. The same U.S. Government extorted from his Nevada company a nineteen percent export tax. Despite struggling to keep his company alive he was forced into bankruptcy. Nice going, Washington D.C.

Now that Obama is allowing the Illegal Kids into the country, how much more in tax is that going to cost us? That's not including the crimes, gang violence and putting the states in worse debt than they are now. Just when you think things are getting more expensive, and they are, more bad news from his highness. Didn't know he had this much power. Where's congress and the media?

  • zoomer165

it's time we took our country back . as we did with England.

The Bible says that in the end times people will be taxed with so many taxes they won't have enough money to buy food for one meal. So it's coming.

    • MichaelH

PM, it ain't the "Democrats" (in my humble opinion)'s the leftists, socialists, and communists who have virtually taken over the democrat party. They were (past tense) an honorable party for many decades until the 'swing' began...around the time that we "lost" the war in 'Nam.
      Here's an own...
I was a lifelong democrat. Once it
was obvious, a few years ago, that the party was being taken over by
leftists, socialists, and communists, I left the party.

      Are there patriotic democrats?

      You bet there are!

Unfortunately they're going to wake up some morning in the
not-too-distant future and realize TOO LATE that their party has left
them in the virtual lurch and become that to which they would never have
agreed. They're being led down the garden path by people the party
would have tossed in the days of honorable democrats like Truman, Adlai
Stevenson, Scoop Jackson, and many others. Now they have the likes of
Reid and Pelosi, and Obama...obvious leftists with a clear set of
      anti-American goals in mind

      • PMDavis

What you say may be true about the democratic party but the fact is, whether they have been infiltrated by communists and socialist, etc., it is still the democratic party along with the liberals and progressives that are destroying this country. What real, original democrats need to do is vote republican just so we can get this monster out of the White House. That is what you can do for your country.

We taxpayers must pay taxes so the owners don't have to and can keep paying their employees minimum wage so they can put more money into their own pockets. If only there were no minimum wage then the owners could keep even more.

    • mikybfree

So where are you working that you only get minimum wage? If you are only making minimum wage, you pay no income tax, and your employer pays unemployment and matches your social security. Wages are an expense to the employer and if profits are higher they can afford to pay higher wages. The problem is obama wants more of the taxpayers money, so employers offset taxes by paying less and charging more.

If you allow employers to keep more they can expand their business and higher more people, and as they run out of workers due to full employment the only way to get qualified workers is to pay more. This is called supply and demand.

If you lower taxes allow for employers to keep more they will expand their, hire more workers, and increase the amount of taxes received by increasing the amount of wealth.

It is the greed of government that is keeping us in a recession. They act as a.middle man,, as.we pay taxes government skims theirs off the top then they dole out the 75 ¢ to cronies such as solyndra, pay your welfare and unemployment and the rest goes to michelle obamas vacations and to pay for his campaign.
Get rid of government overreach and the minimum wage, institute a flat tax, so everyone gives the same percentage their income and the economy will expand wages will increase and tax revenues will double, allowing us to start paying off the debt.

      • TheGizmo51

You are right, people making minimum wage have it made, no income tax while their employers heep generous benefits upon them like social security and unemployment insurance, keeps them in their mansion with a fleet of cars and a boat or two. With corporations sitting on their cash you make a good argument that if they only had more they could and would expand and hire, all with no increase in business. Pretty nifty trick. You mention the law of supply and demand so I'll mention another: the law of diminishing returns. Are you hiring? I'd love to work for someone with your knowledge of the business world and as an expert on economics I'd learn how to live on less than the minimum wage. You have me all excited. By the way, since the w tax cuts for the rich have been implemented I have noticed a sharp and steady increase in business expansion and hiring. And also you make a good argument against social security and unemployment benefits because with the relief employers would have because there would be no business taxes they would continue to expand and hire requiring importing employees from other countries until we eventually would have everyone on the planet working. Now everyone can easily afford to pay your flat tax as everyone makes the same. You should be president, you have all the answers.

        • MC

Gee, I'd like to ask congress and the president how much out of every dollar I slave to make for me and my family I get to keep when there done pulling it out of my Ass. Is it 65 cents? 60 cents? 50 cents? etc? A prophet spoke once upon a time and said " My Progressive Liberal People parish due to the Stupidity! They didn't like his truth so, they hung him on a cross.
Now they're hanging you and me in the name of Tax Security.
Oh, by the way, when all your money is gone, they'll need to take your gun as well. My advice? Shoot the bastards first and then ask questions later.
You are very welcome. You owe me complete freedom, not your slimy reparations, I am ashamed of those who represent me in DC.
Sincerely Yours, Irish/Black Minority Registered Independent.

  • Sixto

What law said that we have to pay income taxes? There is no law that say that we have to pay income taxes. The IRS say very clearly that is voluntary to pay income taxes.

    • Kittyhane

Also in the VERY beginning, income tax was only to be taken from a 40 hr week. On nothing else.
I am 78 and remember in the60s there was a man (can't remember his name) who wanted to run for president on this rule. No one ever heard of him again.

    • GMR

Try not paying it and see what happens to you....

Now is the time for all good men to remember that the "rich" whom Robin Hood was robbing were actually the TAX COLLECTORS! As the story goes, Good King Richard had been captured by a rival nation and the rival nation was demanding a heavy ransom for the British to have their king back. Prince John, however, had enjoyed ruling England while Richard was away at war, and John was none too eager to help ransom King Richard. However, a number of the noblemen of the realm WERE eager to have King Richard ransomed - and returned to England - as quickly as possible. Prince John got wind of the fact that the nobles in favor of Richard's return were working to try to raise enough money to ransom Richard from the rival kingdom. So, when John realized that some of the nobles were succeeding in their goal of raising enough money to ransom Richard, Prince John immediately raised the taxes on those nobles and sent his tax collectors around to collect the "new" taxes which those noblemen now "owed" to Prince John's government. Robin Hood and his merry men waited in the woods until AFTER Prince John's tax collectors had gathered up all of the "taxes" from those unruly noblemen. Then Robin Hood and his merry men ambushed the caravan of tax collectors - who where scurrying away to hand their ill-gotten tax money over to Prince John. Robin Hood then returned the money to its rightful owners. As soon as the noblemen had accepted Robin's gift, the noblemen secretly sent their money off to Europe - where the money was handed over to the kind of the rival kingdom, who immediately released King Richard the Lion Hearted. Prince John was miffed when Richard suddenly returned home, unexpectedly - but Prince John's tax-grabbing days were at an end - thanks to Robin Hood.
