'President Obama, It’s Not Your Money!'

President Obama has decreed that he is going to tax people who make over $250,000 at a higher rate than people making less, and millions of people are OK with it. How did we get to the place when elected officials can tax American citizens at disproportionate rates to pay for debt that was never constitutionally authorized and programs that have no constitutional validity?

Politicians – Democrats and Republicans alike– know that there are fewer high wage earners than lower and middle income earners. The same is true of employers and employees. An employer gets one vote but his or her employees can cancel his vote many times over. It’s no wonder that some of earliest our founders were fearful of an unbridled democracy. John Winthrop (1590–1657) declared democracy to be “the meanest and worst of all forms of government.”[1] John Cotton (1585–1652) wrote in 1636: “Democracy, I do not conceive that ever God did ordain as a fit government either for church or commonwealth. If the people be governors, who shall be governed?”[2] In the Federalist Papers (No. 10), James Madison (1751–1836) wrote that democracies are “spectacles of turbulence and contention.” Pure democracies are “incompatible with personal security or the rights of property. . . . In general [they] have been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”[3]

Democracy as it relates to taxing policy has been described as two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch.

The following is attributed to historian Alexander Fraser Tytler (or Tyler) (1747–1813). While I have not been able to find it in any of his writings, whoever wrote it understood where we are as a nation today:

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

We are a nation where a majority of voters have discovered that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury, that is, from productive tax payers by putting people in power that will do their bidding. Fifty percent of the voting population doesn’t pay a penny in federal income taxes. Why would they ever vote for a president, congressman, or senator who wants to cut taxes and spending?

Who benefits by the higher tax? The people who vote for the higher tax believe they will. Small business owners are the ones who will pay the higher tax. If they are taxed more, they can’t hire more people, invest in new equipment, and advertise for new business. The wolves end up devouring all the sheep like the countryman who killed the goose that laid golden eggs. “As he grew rich he grew greedy; and thinking to get all the gold the goose could give, he killed it and opened it only to find nothing.”

Obama has yet to learn this. Unfortunately, he thinks there's no problem with socialism.

Oh, I think he's learned it very well. He's also learned this:
"...the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship."
And he's learned that whoever is in charge during the collapse becomes the dictator.

First of all I have never worked for some one who is poor. If he/she is successful and wealthy they make good decisions in their business life. They will also know to pay those who make the money for them a good and reasonable living. This article is exceptionally well written and I would add just one thing in John Stuart Mill the tyranny of the majority and the minority giving good government a thin line to walk in order to be good for everyone. In essence time to arm the sheep.

    • Kay

Many businesses went bankrupt even way back when your job creator W was around. So I guess they became poor. And many small businesses in right to work states do not even have to pay minimum wage. If you even make minimum wage and work as much as they will let you like 40 hours a week, your income for a family of four is below poverty level. Many people only make minimum wage. $13,920 (no time off, vacation) is just dandy. So you must be one of the lucky ones. Let them eat cake.

      • inspcowboy

Yes you are correct there are no guarantees in life but it is against the law for any business to pay less than min wage no matter what state you live in Union or RTW and yes there are people who have to work two or three jobs to make ends meet. such as the lot in life but mind you if there was no min wage then the wages would go up because people would dig ditches for the man who paid the most and that would create competition, IMHO the min wage has kept the wages low over the last 50 years and such is Government regulations and the law of unintended consequences!

      • duif100

Don't talk about things you do not know anything about.
The minimum wage is set by the Federal Law, not state law. No business in any state can pay below minimum wage.
It is not very smart to have 2 children while you are earning minimum wages unless you are preparing to go on the welfare rolls..In that case like a good liberal have a few more and your monthly payments will increase.
For most people minimum wage is the starting point of ther careers. This of course is changing under Obama with this extra long period of high unemployment..

      • Dosmo

Kay- Right- to- work laws don't do away with minimum wage. The only give workers the freedom to belong to a union or not! As they choose!

I don't believe businesses actually are entitled to vote as they are not citizens. Just how would a business cast a vote?

        • retiredsgmusarmy

By providing big bucks to whomever might be running for public office. Once the feds bail out a company, that company or its owners/stockholders should not be allowed to contribute any monies to a candidate running for office at the city, county, state or on the federal level.

        • Dosmo

But retiredsgmusarmy-- Don't you know that the majority of stockholders in all major companies are just middle-class citizens trying to invest wisely? I'm a senior citizen, income barely over the poverty line, but I have held stock for years....that's why I'm not "under" the poverty level. I contribute $10 sometimes to one candidate or the other. Why punish small stockholders for what Government does?
Why does the Government have to "bail out" businesses anyway? Why not let them take bankurpsy and reorganize. The big airlines have all had to do it at one time or another. Most of the American public didn't know it nor feel any major effects.

        • retiredsgmusarmy

I do agree with you, I'm just saying that once a company has been bailed out, it should then become policitally neutural and not allowed to support anyone who is running for public office. That smacks of cronyism. Understand, I am only putting forth my own personal opinon.

        • MontieR

I believe you are wrong, simply because NOBODY is to big to fail. ANY bailout is nothing but extortion of taxes to prop up a FAILED business idea.

        • stan in texas

There should be NO BAILOUTS. They are unconstitutional and immoral. When congress has the power to take taxes collected from working people and give it to private companies, we have entered into a different form of government,............it is called socialism or fascism.

A business is esentially a fictious person and has just about the same rights as a person. They might even have the right to vote if some decent lawyer made an issue out of this.
Everything is possible; we have a fictious person as president.who has never proven that he legally even exists.

        • larrylunts

And if a business knowingly produced a dangerous product (like in the infamous Ford Pinto case, where Ford knew of a dangerous defect, but decided it would be cheaper to pay off the injured customers rather that to fix the defect), could the business be prosecuted and imprisoned; or executed, for murder? How would that work?

And could a corporation (at least 35 years old and naturally "born," or incorporated, in the United States, run for President?

        • NM Leon

The corporation that knowingly made a dangerous product could be put in receivership, and the employees with knowledge of the product could be sued, prosecuted, imprisoned, etc.
A corporation is a legal entity (person), but is not a citizen. Without citizenship, it could not run for anything.

        • duif100

We have now a president who has never produced a birth certificate or proven in any other way that he is elligible to be president.
Obama has technically not even proven that he was legally born anywhere or even exists.
This non-existing thing/object or whatever else
you like to call it is now president of the US.
So far Obama has only fought legal battles to prevent disclosure of his records and has not proven anything.

For a business there is a record of its creation (birth) and a business has the same rights as a person.
To me it looks like a business has a lot more right to run for president than Obama does.
If Obama can run with no proof of elligibility so can a business.

How about the rather radical ideas that (1) you must prove who you are to vote and (2) if you cast a fraudulent vote, you go to jail and (3) you cannot vote unless you are a citizen and have resided where you vote for the previous 90 days.

I stay here because I believe the only way California will ever have a chance to rebound is if we elect a Scott Walker governor and provide him with a workable state legislature, California, used to be an economic powerhouse and a major agriculture producer until the Progressive element of the democrat party took power. They shut off the water flow to the farms that were producing the crops in order to protect a tiny fish called the Delta Smelt.

Some say they value the fish more than their fellow man. I believe that the fish are foolish if they think that the current government actually cares about them. The statuses as of March 2012 of the 50 states regarding the required showing of ID at the polling place are as follows:
Strict photo ID (voter must show photo ID at polling place): Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin. In addition, South Carolina and Texas have strict photo ID laws that must receive, but have not received, approval from the federal Justice Department; pending such approval, they require non-photo ID.
Photo ID or alternative (voters at polling place must either show photo ID or meet another state-specific requirement, such as answering personal questions correctly or being vouched for by another voter who has voter ID): Alabama, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan and South Dakota.
Non-photo ID (state-specific list of acceptable forms of polling place ID, including a non-photo form): Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia, Washington.
No ID required at polling place: all other (19) states.

I just read in the newspaper that the primary turn outs were pretty good. The next county, though sparsely populated, had 85 voters over 100 years of age. Some as old as 115! Quite a few seemed to live at one address. Don't dismiss these senior citizens! :)

        • MontieR

I worked at one of those places for senior citizens. They hardly ever reach the age of 90 little lone the age of 100. eighty five? of them I doubt it. that was rigged.

I think you should add (4) you must be a net positive taxpayer in order to cast a vote. I don't want non-taxpaying citizens to have any voice in how my tax dollars are spent. If you get more out of the government than you put in, then you're not a taxpayer as far as I'm concerned.

        • flyguy

I don't quite agree with you. I've worked for 65 years and am now retired and I think that that still gives me a right to vote even though my income is not enough to pay taxes anymore. I still care how this country goes. Just because they took the SS money and now $500 bil. from medicare doesn't disenfranchise me from voting. I think it stinks that they took that money I put in there all my life.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CYJZH2F3B4GDPK5EN5UOUUVCXY Weez

You have a point. We could amend that so that if you were a net positive taxpayer up until the time of your retirement, then you could vote all through your retirement years. It'll never happen though, so it doesn't really matter one way or the other.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TDSLCPZIADLPWE4SFOZNRWV3OE Mike Tanco

How about the radical idea that you mst have a legal birth certificate to be eligible to run for President, or have a legal SS# from the state in which you were born. Ojerko can't produce either one. He is a fraud. Mike Tanco

And if you're a convicted felon, you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Instead, obama courts felons' votes.

        • JPM

          Birds of a feather.

        • larrylunts

Let's say that you're a convicted felon, but new DNA evidence proves conclusively, 20 years later, that you are innocent. You've missed five election cycles. Should you get five extra votes in the next election?

      • Bay0Wulf

Personally, I believe that you should have to prove that you either worked in the past 365 days for at least 10% of the time, are legitimately retired, honestly on Disability, are legitimately a student in good standing, are the spouse of someone who has worked at least 20% of the past 365 days or ... have paid taxes sufficient to prove that you are not living off of the common weal.

Oh ... and yes, you should be required to provide positive ID

      • JPM

        Sounds Good!!!

      • TexasOlTimer

ObamaCare (now ObamaTax) REQUIRES that each person have a Government Issued ID. So to see a doctor, we'll have to have that government issued ID card. That doesn't dis-enfranchise anyone, right? However, to have a state issued ID card (either a driver's license or one that the state will issue FREE) to vote does dis-enfranchise the minority. Is this an oxymoron (or just moronic?) or is it that the liberals/Progressives say what they want based on getting what they want. In other words, they are always for something before they're against it if it suits their purpose.

        • 1ofthemany

      • budman

The Democrats and the NAACP will always oppose the ID and residence requirement to vote because they use illegal immigrants, felons, students voting as many as eight times where there is no requirement to prove who you are. If you checked their pockets, you would probably find they have a list of names they use at different polling places.
I do not know how many times I have read recently that the illegal vote is very small, This is a blatant lie by the media. For example, we know that in California alone, there were over one million illegal immigrants who voted for Clinton. The recent reelection of Harry Reid in Nevada was through illegal immigrants voting for him and he even bragged about it. The election in Minnesota where Franken won and there were more Democrats voting in one country than registered voters. Amazing isn't it. Reid also used the union to rig the voting machines where every vote cast was a vote for him until they caught it and quite likely those votes were not thrown out. We had convicted felons in prison voting for Obama here in Florida. Fortunately, these were thrown out but we still have Canadians thinking they have a right to vote in our election and snowbirds who voted in their home state and in Florida as well and of course, they are voting for the Democrats.
If the current head of the Department of Justice is so concerned about voter rights, why hasn't he investigated both the vote in Minnesota and.Nevada because both clearly won by fraudulent means. Holder just wants to keep the illegal vote in place, otherwise, the Democrats are done.

Forty years ago I was laid-off as an electronics tech. We had three small children at that time, and so we started getting food stamps. At that time we received little books of actual stamps. I was so embarrassed that I took every job that came along to get off the food stamps. Today they have what appear to be, credit cards, so that the users will not be embarrassed. I had a friend that told me that I was a fool for not taking sick days weather or not I was sick. That same friend, at age 72, took a volentary lay-off so that he could collect unemplyment pay. I retired at age 73 on what was a volentary lay-off. Everyone was suggesting that I should do as my friend had done but that seemed like an immoral act to me.

Thank you for your honesty, integrity, and hard work. Nowdays there's no shame in being on welfare. It's like living with someone outside of marriage or having an illegitimate baby. There's no accountability. It's now "accepted".

There is nothing shameful in getting a little help when hard times come. But that help should not come from the federal government, nor should it be a permanent way of life - for generation after generation (enter into the record the City of Detroit, among others). And now it's not only help with food and medical care, but also cell phones (paid for through everyone's else's landline or cell phone bill).

      • valentino

What you have is ethics and morals which is getting to be a very rare characteristic. I'm with you!

You are what is known as an American. The idea of working for your livelyhood & family. There's been a big turnaround in this Country in the last hundred yrs & we're now seeing the 3rd world attitudes infiltrating every State of the Union! When some people say that we're supposed to help the poor it makes me cringe anymore, because I know what they're really saying is to let people mooch off the (bullcrap) system!!! I pay 10% tithing, because the Lord tells us to, that it will help the poor& our Church helps the families that are in need, when they are in need. To acquire this help, the family will do works that are needed--at the Church or someone needing care, etc, etc. Helping with work! Work is the food of the soul & that's where morals get fed the good food! God bless the moral humans.

    • MSGT JOHN CORREA

J Moore, I had made that same proposal and took it a step further. I suggested the 15th Amendment be amended to read; "Section 1. The right of the citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State, 'provided the citizen have a full knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, and American history.'
I don't believe the above request to be unreasonable since these are subjects that are taught in American schools. Or rather; used to be taught in public schools. If the citizen is ignorant of the above subject, he or she will not be entitled to vote. And so J Moore, I am in total agreement with you.

By "full knowledge," does that mean the I must have the entire text of those documents committed to memory? Do I have to have the name of Millard Fillmore's Secretary of Commerce on the tip of my tongue, or lose my right to vote? Do I need to know where George Washington was at any given moment in time? Do I need to be familiar with troop movements during Shay's rebellion?

    • fortheloveofamerica

I completely disagree with you,you can not insist on taking away someone's right to vote just because you say their on "medicare, welfare, food stamps"This sounds like Obama's policies and communism.Just because you maybe don't want certain people maybe voting I guess, you have no right to legilate that they can't vote, you will be cutting a big number of citizen out of their vote, but that probly what liberials want to make their side win,by cutting others right to vote away, they don't want Florida to cut out the dead voters but the illegal aliens we need to give them their right to vote, when they are not citizens.I despise this double standard that some live by. Its a very wasped way to think.I question some of these people "love of country" I think they the liberials truely hate American, and want it to be a communist country.

There may be some people who do not abuse the system but most of them do. It appears the grandparents, parents, and the young generation have abused it and I can't understand how the Social Worker can be so naive. I guess the only reason would be they would be out of a job.

I think the main point was to underline what happens when countries behave like democracies and why they don't work, which is the reason we were founded as a democratic republic- leaders elected by the people without the dangers of mob rule.

Our government is not designed as a democracy. It is designed as a constitutional republic. the government and the media have been pushing it toward becoming a democracy and that is one of the things destroying this country.

if that many people are so stupid or greedy to vote Romney just to dump an illegal usurper, then we DESERVE another four years of the kinyun. WHY will not WE THE PEOPLE stand up and DEMAND our political masters find some real candidates to stand for office.. the kind that will repeal Obamacare, prosecute Holder and Company, end our stupid world-policeman "wars" (illegal because not declared as wars by Congress), and end the insane unconstitutioinal alphabet soup federal "agencies" tying knots around our economy and production... like EPA, Ag, Ed, DEA, FDA......

we aren't mad enough yet. And NO candidatge will ever get MY vote unless that candidate demonstrates to me he WILL uphold the COnstitution as the supreme law of the land....... The polls that the Romney team sponsored, or the polls that the Obama team sponsored? Or were they polls that the MSM put together? These polls are BS. They are designed to make it look like a close race - no matter what. If it's close - they get more donations. If it's close - they run more ads. We are talking millions of dollars.
The whole reason Ron Paul was blacklisted by the media is because they knew he would not play along - he was not going to run the traditional campaign and spend all that money on political ads when all he was trying to do was collect delegates.

Romney has made it clear he understands the difference between a sovereign state doing something vs. the federal government doing it. • dosmo

yadontwannano- yes, loans are negotiable and when you get a loan from a banker (private, not government) you pay interest, that's for the priviledge of borrowing...otherwise why would anyone lend you money?Of course, everyone should be so good-hearted that they would care more for others. But people are NOT that way, never will be! (No, not even those self-righteous "compassionate" democrats) That is why Capitalism works and Socialism doesn't. Profit... not charity... is a universal motivater. Of course, people may make a profit and give great amounts to charity. Most really wealthy Americans have and still do. Our government could never supply the genuinely needy otherwise. The wealthy, contrary to current popular opinion, do not make money by "stealing" from the poor. No, they create jobs to support working people and their families. Socialism leads to resentment, decreased creativity, motivation, and self respect. We see the fruits of it across Europe and that is what Obama admires!

Only a people who have the will power to voluntarily sacrifice and place other people's interest ahead of their own can function in a Democracy. Godless people: whether atheists or non-practicing Christians; or any other religion INEVITABLY PLACE THEIR OWN SELFISH INTERESTS FIRST. So now, in the USA, we have liars, adulterers, homosexuals, greedy, and generally immoral people being represented in positions of authority by -- you guessed it: the same kind of people only more devious and clever. The problem with Democracy is that WE elect our masters! For so long now, ignorant people who disregard and minimize the bible and the faith of the people who founded our nation have been vocal and entrenched themselves into the bureaucracy that runs America. Now we cannot get them OUT! Pray that God Almighty: "Creator" written into our founding documents will accept our humble apology and restore this nation to its prior position of "A City On A Hill." President Obama is destined to win this election unless a miracle occurs. Mitt Romney is a MUCH BETTER CHOICE but he is NOT what America needs in the long run. Yes, vote for him!

This is absolutely correct and the USA has arrived and nobody in elected office are doing one damned thing to curb it. We have allowed our elected politicians, appointed judges and bureaucrats to Kill The Golden Goose, which in this case, are the Middle Class and Small Business Owners who are the only ones left who actually contribute the Golden Eggs to Feed the Greedy, Non-Working Masses and the Politicians, High Level Bureaucrats and Multi-International Bankers and Corporations receive everything that we strive to produce, and what they cannot loot from the producers, they are borrowing from our enemies who want our collapse. And, the Greedy Non-Workers do not see anything beyond the moment, not realizing that in the not too distant future, the non-producing deadbeats will wind up in work camps and if they refuse to work, in death camps.

  • Bama59

Keep raising taxes, and promoting welfare, and the rest of us, who still work for a living will eventually give up and go out on our own. By the way, when we reach that point all the moochers will starve because the government will have no money.

  • Mick

Down with poor people. Back in the good ole days they were called paupers and put In Prison. Why can't you elect Mitt Romney and just put all poor people in those FEMA interment camps Obama has been building. That's a cheap, good use of resources. You could have these people and their families doing work like the old chain gang work, build those roads, paint my house, clean my yard, etc. this is a perfect solution but because everything is run by George Soros we are stuck with illegals from Keyna who have fake degrees from harvard and fat, ugly gay wives. Enough. Put them all in pauper prisons.

    • Bama59

I'm sure you really believe that. Honestly, there are enough good people in the U.S. that would and do donate to charity causes for the needy. The point is that it's not the federal government's job, or even within their authority, to take from one class of people and give it to another.

    • NM Leon

They were debtor prisons, not pauper prisons. People who were unable to pay their bills were imprisoned.

The liberal Democrats do not respect your ownership of your money or anything else. They would gleefully confiscate all money and all property. It is happening right before your eyes. And the speed is accelerating. Obamacare was a biggie, 2700 pages of a take over of your life, your money, your country..

How much are you going to contribute through your taxes, ovomit? Probably will find ways to no taxes at all as well as you muslim brothers in your staff and in congress so the rest of us can give a bigger share of our income so you can have several more millions and billions to spend, to have more 14 million dollar vacations, fly big aircraft with nobody on but you and your wife, daughters and maybe a few members of you staff members, have 5 times more servants for you wife that any other former president's wife, spend more money on worthless bill like your odumocare, bring more muslims and illegal latinos into our country at taxpayer's expense and who knows what else you will pull on the American people! Don't you have any common sense? I know you don't give a rat's xxx for America so why don't you just resign and go to Saudia Arabia, Iran, Pakistan or Afghanistan where you belong. Oh yes, Kenya would be a good place for you as well with relatives there! Anyway, we don't need you here in America because you don't have a clue as to how to run a presidency, let alone of the United States!!

    Obama, It’s Not Your Money!’

How many ways can one say (paraphrase) "It's not your money" before one has to comes right out and says, "It's not your money?"

About as many ways that Obozo has said (paraphrased) "FROM each according to his ability, TO each according to his need."

Obozo has been reading (paraphrasing) right out of the Karl Marx Handbook from the time he entered politics.

When are people going to start realizing that???

Well...with all the bills I have, he kinda has a point....:)

All semi-kidding aside, when will we learn that tax-and-spend doesn't do anything besides create oblivion? Government needs to be reigned in, social programs need to have an orderly transition to private religious and secular charities as much as possible.

The income tax either needs to be eliminated or a Constitutional amendment to cap it at a 10% flat tax with a personal deduction adjusted for inflation every year needs to be created; I would leave in deductions for continuing education, mortgage deduction, add a deduction for rent similar to Massachusetts (up to $3000/year,) and a 10% corporate tax with deductions for reasonable business expenses allowed. All retirement savings taxes/penalties would be eliminated, essentially turning everything into a Roth IRA.

While we're at it, we need to do some serious examination of defense spending and cut where appropriate so our military can do the job well without being shorted and at a greater economy. $600 toilet seats and the like need to be rooted out.

The job-killing regulations need to be re-written or eliminated. The job-killing trade imbalance will be addressed if we do that, and if a foreign country refuses to play fair, then we, as a nation, should retain a right to take peaceful action.

We can repair this nation- we need the political will to do it.

That's been one of my favorite commentator's points. . . nothing is stopping those morons who think that they haven't given enough from writing a check to the treasury for the national debt. Yet, people who are for higher taxes, like Soros, fight the treasury over what they are expected to pay. They are liars and hypocrites. They should be told to ante up or shut up.

  • Old Kute

It is simple. Obama believes that government owns everything and that it distributes it to those who don't have as much as others. He believes that government should control how much anyone has and, if they have more than the government wishes, then the government has the right to take it away and give it to thouse who have less. In short, Obama is a Socialist of the Marxist voriety (we use to call it a Communist). His goal is to make the US a "Union of Sovcialist States of America." He has no regard for the Constitutioin and will, as he has proven, twist and even ignore it, just to get his way. What else can we expect from a Marxist? He is what he is.

BS. Hes taxing the middle and lower income people who pay for their health care. They barely have much to live on and loose over a hundred dollars out of their pay between taxes and health care and 401k. Government will not be happy till they have all of it and you are still paying for NOTHING! Why are they not schooling people who go on welfare to get a job skill? There used to be some work incentive programs years ago , but I havent heard of any for years. Our nation has become such a toilet. It used to be safe and wonderful for kids to go out and run around the neighborhood playing. Now they are either gangs or in a business to strip cars. Good kids have to stay indoors like they are in jail. Our youth are the first ones who have lost all their freedoms to be children. Government has been our enemy for so long it sickens me.

Obama thr great destroyer si deliberately running America into the ground.
He is not stupid and understands perfectly well what he is doing.
    It is destruction by design.
Not one positve initative to promote job growth. That is a failure and no accident.
Investments like Solyndra were intended to go under. That is a failure and no accident.
Union bail outs instead of stimulating job growth. That is a failure and no accident.
We can make a long list of Obama investing in the wrong things and the taxpayer being screwed. Nobody with the resources and the investigating power of the federal Government behind them can do so poorly unless it is intentional.
They have all however one thing in common..they are all major contributors to the Obama campaign. It is really a bribery scheme where you will get a lot of money from me (Obama, the government) but you have to donate to his campaign. You get your money, I get mine and the taxpayer pays and America is being destroyed.
    We can therefore thruthfully say:
Obama; the olnly president for whom every failure is a success!

  • Idylewylde

This goes right to the heart of the term 'Adult'.
An adult makes his/her way through life acquiring greater personal power, and this includes wealth, and uses that power to raise their children accordingly with the same values.
A permanent child, a ward of the government, will never be an adul, or rear adults.
I'm not against a social responsibility to render assistance to our fellow citizens in times of duress. I am, however, opposed to the terms inflicted on us by this arrogant political culture that means to remove my right to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness ... that pursuit of Happiness being the proof that the government has no inherent right to subvert my Happiness to insure their own.
Let's face it. The professional political class, in both parties, have evolved into parasites.
Every law we see passed is designed to strip away our adulthood, including the right to raise our own children, and to impose their Mommy state on as as our parent so that they can feed off of our misery .. and our money.
They want to reduce all of us to the status of 'wards of the state' .. thus Obamacare.
If the State is Mommy ... then we are all worthless bastards .. like the one in the White House.

  • Patrick Henry

OUR Constitution doesn't give the President complete authority to take money from whomever he pleases to do whatever he pleases, to remain in Power and push his Socialist agenda. Congress has the authority to legislate, NOT the President, the Executive Brance has the responsibility to carry out the necessary Laws enacted by The Congress that represents ALL 50 States. We elect a President, NOT a Dictator.

  • Enrique

I've always thought you should only be allowed to vote if you were a tax payer.

  • MarMac2768

The biggest thing wrong with this "tax the rich and they will pay the bills" idea is this; the people who have the power of lawmaking are some of the rich. Look at the salaries of Congressmen and the President and their net worth. The ones that make the laws give plenty of TAX LOOPHOLES to insure that they can exempt certain parts of their income to prevent them from paying the 35% that they will impose on others. The rich can hire these tax lawyers and accountants to avail themselves of the loopholes that are in place and not pay anything more themselves. The middle class people, who can't afford these tax experts to keep them from paying and they (we) wind up paying more. It's a no win situation for the middle class.

yes, I got all that from half of the country agreeing with raising the taxes on the hard-working backbone of this country... well, if this takes place this country is finished

  • IcallBS

The is a nice story, but there are a few misleading issues.
    1) You ask how we got to a point where the richer pay a higher percentage in taxes, but that has always been the idea, even Jefferson advocated it and he was an anti-federalist. Taxation also used to be much more progressive during the post WWII period (much higher top rates, 70-80% on the margin for the top brackets, and higher effective average rates).
    2) 50% of people pay no federal income tax, but they still pay other federal taxes (e.g. social security). The way you worded it is practically a blatant lie (and this seems to be common practice, anyone spouting this drivel doesn't deserve to be listened to). Most of those who pay no federal taxes are the poor elderly (half of those who don't), blind, and crippled.
    3) The direction of the country has bee lower and less progressive taxation over the last 50 years, particularly when you consider interest and capital gains, and caps to social security, which disproportionality benefit millionaires. State and local taxes are also very regressive (lower incomes paying a higher percentage).
    4) The real threat to democracy is that those with more money get much more influence on policy. If you don't think special interests fighting for their own monetary gains aren't driving most of the decisions in gov't over the last several decades you haven't been paying attention.
I am not saying exactly what we should do, but let's at least get the facts right in the debate.

    • johnrhett

Your theory is not valid; when tax rates were much higher, there were many more deductions and loopholes than there are now. Your mistake is looking at the tax rates, not the actual amounts paid. Also, let's face it, Dems are all for raising taxes because they know they won't pay them [Geithner, Kerry, Daschle, Rangel, etc.; Buffet alone owes $1billion in taxes that he refuses to pay, but he is still running around telling people to pay more taxes.].

As for people who actually do pay their taxes: look at an IRS business-tax form and tell me what deductions you would like eliminated: office expenses? inventory expenses? rent? insurance? We already have the highest corporate tax rate in the entire world. Read Thomas Sowell's writings on the subject. When the tax rates fall,
tax revenues rise. Raising taxes will only accomplish one thing: fewer people to pay taxes. The rich have options, and they are using them now
every time a country or state raises taxes - they leave. What happens
then? Who will fund the government? Will it be government employees who
pay for government? Their paychecks COME from the government. Welfare
recipients? Again, their checks COME from the government. Who will pay
the salaries of everyone in the private sector [that is, the people who
actually pay for government and for everyone who is on the government
      dole]?

  • Proudamerican

The ironic part is obama thinks whatever you and I have is not our money either. • Leonard

I am so tired of people saying we must vote for the lessor of two evils to remove the most evil. Until people get a back bone and start voting for good we will never reverse evil. Even if for a time we end up with the evilest, maybe that will wake people up. Voting for the lessor of two evils is still voting for evil. Incrementally and over time we have moved farther left toward evil because no one has faith that good will prevail. Until men grow a pair our choices will always only be evil and moderate evil.

    • johnrhett

The time to vote for good is in the primaries. After that, you vote for the lesser of evils. That's the way it is. Now pull up your grown-up pants and do what's necessary to get Obama out of office, or we may not have the chance to vote again, if it isn't already too late. Obama just signed an Executive Order giving him control of all communications whenever he feels the need, not just in an emergency. Now all of the dominoes are in place - it only takes one small tap and the Republic falls.

  • http://twitter.com/BradNova Brad Nova

So how long has the progressive tax been in existence? The top rates have usually been much higher than they are now and we have a history of a much better economy when the rates are higher.

I think articles like this one are pointed out in a quote by President Lincoln.

Corporations have been enthroned, and an
era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country
will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people
until the wealth is aggregated in the hands of a few, and the Republic is
    destroyed.
Abraham Lincoln, letter to William Elkins, Nov. 21, 1864. (After
the passage of the debt causing National Bank Act [June 3, 1864]).

    • johnrhett

I totally agree with the sentiment that those who get their money to live from the taxpayers without having to work should immediately be dropped from the voter's rolls. In the original 13 states only the landowners, who all paid high taxes, were allowed to vote. Then, after the Civil War, they grafted in rules for non-land owners. But you still had to be a citizen in good standing who had paid their taxes. If you hadn't paid into the tax system, you were dropped from the rolls. Only since LBJs Great Society have we allowed non-land owning, non-tax paying people vote. They are not supporting society, not paying taxes (except sales tax) into the system. Why should they have an equal right to vote in elections without partiiciating in the monetary support of society. If they want to vote, they should begin putting into the system, not just taking out without participating. Even the Jamestown colony had a rule: You don't work, you don't eat. You don't work and pay taxes, it should be, you don't vote.

Extending Middle Class Tax Cuts for 98% of Americans
Yesterday the President called on Congress to extend the middle class tax cuts for the 98 percent of Americans making less than $250,000 for another year.
If Congress fails to act, a typical middle-class family of four will see its taxes go up by $2,200, and America’s small business owners would take a big hit. The President refuses to let that happen.

The brutally honest truth is that the United States Government, driven by the Socialistic ideology that drives us ever deeper in debt, has grown to the point where the productive private sector can no longer support it.
The government does not create wealth. They are absolutely dependent on the private sector to generate wealth they can tax in order to operate. If they insist on operating beyond the ability of the private sector to support them for any length of time; the eventual result is economic Armageddon. It is not just the poor moochers, but also the middle class and wealthy ones as well. Farm subsidies go primarily to wealthy corporate farmers. Student tax credits go to disproportionately middle class folks whose kids go to college. Medicare and Social Security, are also transfer payments from workers many of whom aren't close to the incomes of many recipients.

Yes, the class warfare rhetoric of taxing the rich is terribly effective, but only so long as there isn't strong and articulate debate on what is demonstrable fallacy.

  • The_American_Way

The government needs to get out of the charity business. Let local charities handle
charitable giving. For those that paid into Social Security, they should get Social Security.

For those that didn’t pay into Social Security, they should not get Social Security. As for illegal immigrants the only thing they should get is the boot out of the country. Come here legally if you want to come here.

Liberals are making all this stuff harder than it is. It's not about feelings. It's about what's right.

And when he finds that taxing those with incomes over $250,000 doesn't make a dent in the debt, he'll lower the threshhold to $200,000, then $150,000, and so on.

The US Government has embezzled funds from Social Security, and now emptied the US Postal System Retirement Fund. What other funds are empty, and have no balances to pay the retirement checks? You can bet that the Obamacare depository account for illegal National Healthcare, will be drained, if this 'bad idea' is not smacked down asap. The House is taking three years too long to bring justice for the American taxpayers. STOP spending to 'green' Africa; Stop spending Foreign Aid to our enemies; STOP funding the UN headquarters in the USA to a cost of $6.354 billion each year; STOP all Senate earmarks, un-authorized earmarks, special grants, special projects, and Golden Fleece projects: put Senate term limits on the November's Election. Put Obamacare on the ballot;STOP Whitehouse budget overruns; STOP Presidential free travel-retrieve all expenses from Obama DNC account funding NOW. Utah should now join the rest of the 49 states, and realize exactly what is going on in D.C. along with OVERSPENDING Crisis.

During the Eisenhower administration, the highest marginal tax rate was 91%. Despite problems like the cold war and institutional racism in the deep South; it was a golden age in may ways. WW2 veterans were going to college on the G.I. Bill; the middle class was growing and prospering (and so were the rich); home ownership was something most people took for granted; and most people could afford to send their children to college. Both political parties took their responsibility to serve the public seriously. The Republican Party of 1956 was, politically-speaking, to the left of today's Democratic Party, and on a different planet entirely than today's "Republicans." By and large, we were united as a people, and we had a stable society.

Now we are a divided society, with a growing disparity in wealth, veering dangerously toward the right. The ruling class has most of the money, controls both political parties (the Republicans more that the Democrats), and owns the media. The rich are in control, and out-of-touch; while the poor and middle class are working harder but making less. This does not make for a stable society. Eventually, the people at the bottom will realize that they are being played for suckers, by being forced to fight with each other for the meager scraps the rich are willing to let them keep, and controlled by hatred over wedge issues. When that day comes, it isn't going to be pretty. Google "French Revolution" to see what can happen when the stratification in society becomes too extreme.

Speaking of scraps, the Republicans are coming after your Social Security. They want to take the Trust Fund you have been paying into for all of your life, and privatize it; so they can gamble it away in the big casino on Wall Street, like they did with the housing market. Don't let them. Vote Democratic in 2012. While both parties may be tainted by the corrupting influence of corporate money in politics, there is some hope with the Democrats. There is none with the Republicans, who might as well be wearing Nascar-like jackets with logos of the corporations who own them.

Obama is the most divisive President that thius country has ever had. he is spending our tax dollars like a teenager with a credit card - which will soon bankrupt this country and will make life even more difficult for our kids and grandkids.
his "hope and change" has become "gloom and doom"... demonizing successful Americans and creating more entitlement programs may get him more votes, but it will also drive this country off of a cliff. while he claims to help the middle class, he has SHRUNK the middle class and is taxing them to death - the middle class will be the ones paying the most taxes when Obamcare gets into full effect (of course, after the November election)

How did we allow this state of affairs where we are compelled to accept the confiscation of our earnings and must go through the yearly charade of "doing our taxes" in the hope of getting some our confiscated income back which held by the state interest free? Why have we allowed this?

    • CARLjr

Because we need police, fire & emergency services, a military, roads, bridges & highways, public transportation, power plants, waste disposal, Mail delivery, sewer systems, public education, etc, etc. Taxes have been collected in the United States since 1634. I do not think there is a country on the planet that does not collect some form of tax.

How do you propose a non-taxed society would operate? Would we have ever made it to the moon? Won World War II? Cured Polio?

      • dntmkmecomoverther

Your ignorance is stupendous. The US wasn't taxing anything in 1634 as there was no US government yet. The taxing authorization doesn't come along until the 16th Amendment in 1913 and the rates were quite modest. Under Democrats, those rates rose to 94% for individuals making over $250k by 1944. Now that is SOME incentive for success isn't it? DuH!

Those rates, along with the hikes which were introduced in 1918 and following helped mire us in a recession and depression that lasted up to 1966 when the highest rate came 'down' to 60% (which frankly is such a disincentive to be successful that it's a wonder we have any exceptional entrepreneurs at all)

The fact is that our government wastes tax dollars like there is no tomorrow. I provide this summary visual of our present situation. Suppose your basement fills up with sewage. Do you raise the level of your house or do you do away with the sewage? Our government would tell you to raise your house. If that's your idea of success, then you have a mental disorder my friend.

        • CARLjr

Although the modern income tax dates from the adoption of the Sixteenth Amendment in 1913, an income-like tax, known as a “faculty” tax, appeared very early in the New England colonies. A Massachusetts Bay law of 1634 provided for the assessment of every man’s assets and the product of his abilities. In 1638, the General Court in
Massachusetts required all freemen and non-freemen to support both the
commonwealth and the church. Direct taxes took two forms: (1) a wealth tax and (2) a poll, or head tax, which in some instances evolved into or included an income tax. In 1643,
assessors were appointed to rate inhabitants on their estates and their
faculties, which included personal abilities. Further definition three
years later specified the taxation of “laborers, artificers, and
handicraftsmen” on their “returns and gains.”

  • CARLjr

The tax code has ALWAYS had different rates depending on adjusted gross income. This article acts like adjusted tax rates were just decided yesterday, when they have been that way for a hundred years! The REALITY is for the people in this top tax bracket - they pay a much smaller percentage than they did in the sixties, seventies, and early eighties, and have been relatively stable throughout the 90's and 00's.
The millionaire taxpayer in 2011 PAID LESS THAN HALF of what they would have paid in taxes 40 - 50 years ago.

    • dntmkmecomoverther

So what should we do with the 47% of the population that pays NOTHING in federal taxes? Do you see any equity in that whatsoever? Just because our government under FDR fleeced the rich is no signal that it was 'right' to do so. Frankly, if you want more of something, tax it less. If you want less of it, tax it to death...damned if we haven't done that to our successful folks. God help us.

      • CARLjr

That statistic is inflated. Sure, children don't pay taxes, being listed as a dependent on someone else's taxes (like a stay at home mom), people unable to work due to a serious disability, and the elderly. Moreover, this figure only includes income tax and does not factor in other federal taxes that are paid.
Let me explain — repeat actually — what [the figure] means: About half
of taxpayers paid no federal income tax last year. It does not mean
they paid no tax at all. Many shelled out Social Security and
Medicare payroll taxes. Some paid property taxes and, it is fair
to say, just about all of them paid sales taxes of one kind or
another. So to say they pay no taxes is flat wrong

Did you buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks this morning? Did you pay sales tax on it? Then you paid more than General Electric paid in taxes last year.

The company reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1
billion of the total came from its operations in the United States. Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.

        • dntmkmecomoverther

Carl, you are so misguided I don’t know where to start; so I inserted comments in your response below.
          Cheers!

That statistic is inflated. Sure, children don't pay taxes, being listed as a dependent on someone else's taxes (like a stay at home mom), people unable to work due to a serious disability, and the elderly. Moreover, this figure only includes income tax and does not factor in other federal taxes that are paid.
My response: No, that figure is not inflated, it comes from the IRS. 47% of those filing federal tax returns (individuals) pay no federal taxes. This does not include an children since they do not file.

Let me explain — repeat actually — what [the figure] means: About half of taxpayers paid no federal income tax last year. It does not mean they paid no tax at all. Many shelled out Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes. Some paid property taxes and, it is fair to say, just about all of them paid sales taxes of one kind or another. So to say they pay no taxes is flat wrong

My response: Those who pay no federal income tax are not likely to pay much in sales tax compared to those who actually do pay federal taxes. They are receiving free education, free breakfast, free lunches and now DINNERS at the schools! The parents are receiving food stamps so no sales tax is collected there either.

Did you buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks this morning? Did you pay sales tax on it? Then you paid more than General Electric paid in taxes last year.
My Response: GE also provided over 66,000 jobs; did you forget about that little detail? With investment tax credits and other tax incentives to provide jobs, it’s not uncommon for a large corporation to have years where they pay no federal income tax. GE had a couple of losing years where they lost over 2 billion; that loss can be deducted from ensuing year’s returns as well.

The company reported worldwide profits of $14.2 billion, and said $5.1 billion of the total came from its operations in the United States. Its American tax bill? None. In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion.
My Response: Perhaps when you bring as much to the economy as a GE or Microsoft, you can earn these tax credits as well. In your world, you would rather punish these job producers…that makes no sense at all. If you want more of something, tax it LESS. If you want less of something, tax it MORE. This is a simple concept that too many people fail to grasp.

        • CARLjr

A Free Press analysis of IRS data shows that people making more than $30,000
went from less than 1% of nontaxable returns in 1996 to 17% in 2009. The number of nontaxable returns for filers
with incomes of $30,000-$40,000 went from about 85,000 — about a third of 1% of
the total — to 4.8 million, or 8% of the total, by 2009. That's an increase of
more than 5,000%. (By way of comparison, the overall number of tax returns went
up by about 17%, and the total number of nontaxable returns doubled in that
          time.)

But the percentage increase was even bigger for higher wage earners.
Nontaxable returns from people with income between $75,000 and $100,000 went
from 4,025 in 1996 to 476,624 in 2009 — an increase of almost 12,000%. More
than 1,400 millionaires didn't pay income taxes in 2009, either.

          Q: Why the change?

A: Tax cuts and tax breaks. As Clint Stretch, tax policy expert at Deloitte,
explains it, the tax cuts won by President George W. Bush in 2001 and 2003 not
only reduced income tax rates, they doubled the child tax credit from $500 to
$1,000; eliminated the marriage penalty by giving couples twice the standard
single deduction (rather than a slightly smaller amount), increased the earned
income tax credit, cut capital gains taxes and more. All of those items — as
well as breaks like those for mortgage interest, charitable deductions and
medical expenses — can mean a huge savings.

But it didn't stop there. President Barack Obama added other breaks, too,
like the Making Work Pay credit — worth $800 to a couple or $400 to an
individual filer — as well as the American Opportunity Credit for college,
worth up to $2,500 per student, on top of the $4,000 tuition and fees
deduction. "Mathematically, you're not going to pay taxes" if you
have a modest income and qualify for a lot of those breaks, Stretch said.

"How did we get to the place when elected officials can tax American citizens at disproportionate rates...?" We got there when Congress passed the 16th Amendment, which established graduated tax rates. The best way to fix the problem is to abolish the 16th Amendment and change the tax code from an income tax to a consumption tax: the FairTax!

The fallacy every time the government increases tax on the rich, more of the rich leave... permanently. According to Zogby, more than 3 million Americans relocate outside the USA every year. How many of those people do you think are poor? If you don't think that's a real problem, read "The Rich Don't Pay Tax! …Or Do They?" You'll never look at taxes the same way again. The people who pay the bills and create the jobs are leaving and that's a serious problem.

Lest we forget, this is the same mentality Hillary Clinton displayed when during her husband's administration she became exctatic over the high profits of a certain group of corporations and declared she wanted to "take" these profits that were not hers and invest them where she wanted the money to go instead of to the board members and share holders of these companies who had taken the risks and actually earned the money.

I have long advocated that those who are not verifiably contributing to the welfare of this Nation should not be allowed to participate in the way the Nation is being run.

I have always been amazed at the shortsightedness of people in general. When a WalMart came to town everyone was excited ... and a few years later griped because downtown had basically closed up shop. When a Lowe's or Home depot came to town everyone was excited until they found that the prices weren't that much better, even the "name-brand" materials were substandard and the employees knew very little about the trades, and all the good hardware stores had gone under. When the people look at the situation and vote for the free lunch they never realize that the lunch they eat today is coming from the pocket that they expect to get dinner from next week ... and will consequently be empty come dinnertime.

I tell folks to try to buy American and they look at me and tell me that they save a couple bucks if they buy whatever WalMart sells (made in China). I point out that it might cost them their job but they say that they don't make such-and-such so what's the difference ... then when their neighbor who did make such-and-such loses their job and can no longer afford to pay for whatever it is that they DO make, they complain that its unfair that everyone is buying stuff made in China ...

Truly we are in tough times ... Truly it is MOSTLY OF OUR OWN MAKING ... insist on and BUY USA ... yes it costs more but ... ITS YOUR JOB and YOUR NEIGHBORS

Just imagine the power trip our Undocumented Worker-in-Chief is on. He was a lowly Senator and now he simply ordains a billion dollars here and a billion dollars there. He just sent a couple of billion to his Muslim Brotherhood buddies in Egypt—I guess a reward for a job well done.

As far as the democracy is concerned, we have to hope that it is not too late and we still have enough citizens who would like to be free and make their own lives. Under socialism there is no career path, no rewards for being industrious and innovative, no freedom to be creative. There is only squalor and equal poverty for all—just like No Child Left Behind is really No Child Gets Ahead—the goal is complete mediocrity.

As Margaret Thatcher said, "Socialism only works until you run out of other peoples' money." Government are unable to generate wealth, so they have to tax the wealth producers, of ALL sizes, to generate the funds to give away. This is what they call "social justice," a code term for stealing, stealing, and more stealing of the property of others—wealth redistribution designed to kill the urge of others to be productive.

Just remember, the liberals who want Marxist socialism for us have no intention of living as they intend us to have to live. They thoroughly intend to be in the ruling class that sneers at the proletariat. They are the face of evil and arrogance—think Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

it's a sad state of affairs when someone is being punished for being successful and those that are not as much so, are happy to make the successful pay their way instead of having some pride and doing what they need to do to earn enough to support their families. It is even a sadder thing when the person heading up this "taking away from the successful" is the president and shame of us all for not impeaching this man that is doing his best to buy votes in the upcoming election by his usuall lying to us and for breaking so many laws and basically kicking the constitution our the door. Unfortunately, people like Obama think that the wealthy save their "extra" money by burying it in the backyard, or hiding it under their mattress. Truth be told, they put it into banks, which loan it out to entrepreneurs to start and build companies and into the stock market, which is an investment in a company or companies. In both cases, the money is invested in the private sector, where businesses ARE created and people ARE hired, and NOT in the public sector, which squanders money!! Margaret Thatcher once stated, "The problem with socialism (i.e., marxism, wealth redistribution, progressivism, etc.) is that you eventually run out of other people's money!" The problem will come when people discover that "robbing from the rich" hasn't solved all of the problems and the government lowers the threshold to $100,000, then $50,000, then $25,000. You see, it will never end!

  • one of the REAL republicans

Your premise that small business cant invest in new equipment or hire more people is flawed.

The tax comes after deductions, so the hiring of staff and expansion of business adds to the deductions and lowers the amount that can be taxed for said business.

The fiasco with "Joe the plumber" during the last campaign was also flawed.
Assuming Joe actually had the money to buy the business, the taxes on this business are not assessed against the "gross", they are assessed against the "net" which comes after paying staff, paying bills, buying expansion etc. I highly doubt that after expenses Joes plumbing business would have more than a quarter million in profit.

    Another flaw I noted:
Keep in mind that the US is NOT a DEMOCRACY and NEVER HAS BEEN!
READ the papers of the founding fathers and not that it was ALWAYS called a REPUBLIC!

There is 1 problem in giving the wealthiest 1% a tax break over everyone else.
When the lower classes can no longer afford to buy things anymore, there arent enough of the 1% left to carry the economy.

Face it, the system has worked marvelously for the 1%, and not so well for the rest.
Since they have done so well, dont they OWE the system a bit more because it actually worked for them?

I dont care what the morons of Faux News say, its NOT going to bankrupt people who make millions a year.

You guys should READ more and use your heads for something other than a hat rack.

All I see and feel is the masses slobbering over the free money and benefits they think they are going to get from taxing the rich. What they don't understand or realize is that there is not that much wealth left in this country. A lot of wealthy people have lost lots of their wealth in the stock market and closed businesses back when the economy fell in 2008. Then the next question begs, "What then? Who are we going to tax for more money when the rich are depleted?" The answer is, "Everyone else," including the middle class, poor, etc. Then we will all be beggars just like the rest of the world.

You've got to have a scapegoat to blame when you haven't accomplished anything. (at least, anything POSITIVE) And using Bush as an excuse for Obama's failures WAS getting rather long in the tooth, hence the PARTIAL shift to the "rich" as Obama's favorite fall guy. This has good positives for Obama since the poor, unwashed masses are too stupid to see past the twisted logic that, since they are not "rich", such a tax will not affect THEM (at least directly). But when you add in the pork taxes hidden in the Obamacare "legislation" AND the cost of all the new OBAMAregulations AND the soak the rich mentality, there will be no money left for the rich to hire new employees. (And the poor cannot afford to hire anyone.)Liberals will LOVE that because the unwashed unemployed then have to turn to them for their sustenance, thus giving the "progressives" almost total control over the masses! The New World Order will have arrived!

I am weary of so many ignoramuses that do not know the difference. There is a strong need for reeducation of many folks.

Democracy as it relates to taxing policy has been described as two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. That is only true if the 2nd Amendment has been abolished and the lamb is unarmed.

I thought we are supposed to have "equal protection under the law" . Is a progressive tax really legal? Oh I forgot, anything that Obama wants is legal

Even pagan Rome and Greece took care of the poor, why cant we as a civilized society.

Ronald Reagan said it: "Republicans look on today as the fourth of July. Democrats look on today as April fifteenth. For the Democrats, every day is April fifteenth." He was right.

When OBAMA LOSER is on tv I shut him off, who could believe anything that comes out of his mouth, all he does is spew lies.

In early times you had to own property in order to vote. If that were re-instituted, most levies would fail, and we would get politicians were of a sound fiscal mind.

The community organizer is creating a socialist society where more and more people are dependent on government handouts. Eventually, all the resources from the productive members of society are gone and the central government collapses. Remember the old Soviet Union?

And it is not HIS country or constitution to trash at his whim or design.....It is OUR country and he was given the RESPONSIBILITY to be the LEADER of our country.... and even if he is not the best president ever.....the least that he can do is NOT to do any HARM to our country....but Nobama and his Leftist/socialist minions/kool-aid drinkers do not LIKE America and all that she stands for.....They want to spend America into insurmountable debt and total chaos in the name of SOCIAL JUSTICE and WE, the American people, are supposed to be the WILLING and DUMB guinnea pigs for their "grand designs" to turn our country into the U.S.S.A. and Nazi-Merica in less than 4 yrs......via OBAM-CONTROL,...aka "health care"......What a joke, but it is not a very funny one - for ANY of us!!!

Barackula is draining the life blood from this economy and must have a stake driven through his heart in Nov.

"A Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting for dinner. A Republic is a well armed sheep able to contest the vote." Not sure who first aid that but it is so true. 51% can my life hell for 49% in a Democracy. Also, ALL Democracies end up being dictatorships.

  • Disproportionately Taxed

Just ask W. He did it for 8 years. Or go talk to Cheyney, he helped. Tax the middle class, but give the rich tax breaks at a higher rate. Hypocrit Godfather. You believe your own hype, don't you.

  • Don from SE MN

The above statements explains why we are "NOT" a democracy but a "Constitutional Republic". The progressives in the 1920's popularized taxing by income ( which Hillary Cliton proudly claims to be). Because of this we have now progressed to class warfare. We need to go back to where everyone is treated the same; a flat tax with no loopholes. That would eliminate most of the IRS and all the tax lawyers. Now Obama's talking heads are trying to push the idea that because Romney is rich he doesn't care about the "average" American. I say, because of his wealth he has more at stake and more to lose if things get worse in the USA. Remember that George Washington's wealth ,when adjusted to modern times, was the richest president ever and most people think he did a pretty good jab as Commander in Chief and President.

I wish Godfather would single out Harry Reid as one who continually blocks anything Obama doesn't like from going to a vote in the senate. The one and the only reason ths has occurred since the GOP took over the house, is to not let the country see how their senators would vote on those issues. The adminiistration and Reid know how that would their congressional seats.

Let's take a look at Obama's big plan for the U.S. Simply put it's Bottom up, top down.
He's already changed the middle class and in so many words done away with it. They or a lot of them are unemployed and on food stamps. So we've cut out the middle class so what's left. We have the Top and the very bottom. The very bottom is already poor and on government assistance and depend on the government for their daily lives. All that is left is to change the TOP, the rich or well to do of the country. How do we destroy the rich capitalist power brokers. We tax them out of exsistance, we regulate them to death and bring them down to the level that we can control with the government. Wait a minute.. what have we got left? The government is now at the top and everyone else falls into the Other class under control of the government.
Isn't that the same thing as COMMUNISM? We have the elited party members (those that run the government) and the bottom class that includes everyone else under government control.

Don't forget: It isn't even our money. The foreign owned Federal Reserve System prints our money and then SELLS it to the U.S. Treasury department, and action that it totally unconstitutional, since the Constitution says that the U.S. Treasure is to print and coin money. We can thank Woodrow Wilson for this travesty which has led to the runaway inflation that we now enjoy.

I live in Texas and if Obama declares creates an "emergency" to halt the elections if he begins to think he is going to loose or he DOES loose, it would be prudent for Texas just to secede since we have that ability. That way Obama's thugs would not be able to control the Great State of Texas. I think we have enough fire power in the state (more guns than people) to defend her against Obama. We have the largest Army instillation in the World at for Hood. Me thinks most of that base would side with Texans. REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!!!

Did I read that right?? 50% of all Americans pay no federal income tax? If such a case be true, then why should a non-taxpayer get a vote? Sure, it is America, one person, one vote, but how can this possibly be fair?

All those whose lips are "Locked" onto the Government Teet, are by their own free-will selling themselves as government slaves!
Is is the case in ALL D.C. funds there are more stings attached that will snare the most agile ones of us!
Just look at ANY National Government Program, and see all the waste and all the stupid regulations that come with each one program!
Case in point? U.S.P.S. must by Congress hand over billions each year, as cash yet they are going broke!
    What's up with that?
What are smoking, snorting or sniffing, or injecting in D.C.? Or are they ALL old and senile?
