Why Corporations Must Be People

The film Soylent Green (1973) — that stars Charlton Heston, Edward G. Robinson, and Chuck “The Rifleman” Connors — is not a great film, but it has one classic line — “Soylent Green is People!” The line reminded me of Obama and his fellow leftists who claim that corporations are NOT people. Just like Heston's character did not want to believe what he saw with his own eyes, leftists don't want to admit that corporations can't be anything but people. Here’s a standard definition:

  1. A company or group of people authorized to act as a single entity (legally a person) and recognized as such in law.
  2. A group of people elected to govern a city, town, or borough.

If corporations aren’t people, then why are liberals so upset with the people who run them? Why do Liberals want corporations to pay more money? That money comes out of the pockets of people. Why are they upset when a corporation decides to set up business in a different country? People make these decisions. When a corporation is sued, who is it that’s served the papers? People. Who gets the money when there are corporate profit? PEOPLE!

In the 1960s, anti-war protestors protested against the “Military Industrial Complex” a phrase coined by Dwight D. Eisenhower in his Farewell Address of January 17, 1961. They were protesting against the people who were running the corporations and making money off the Vietnam War. They were called “war profiteers.”

This is commonsensical that only a liberal can deny it with a straight face. When a corporation makes money, people make money; it’s that simple.

Jack Welch, who knows something about corporations and people, does a slam-dunk on the leftist notion that corporations are not people. He quotes Elizabeth Warren who is running for the Senate seat held by Scott Brown in Massachusetts:

“Mitt Romney tells us, in his own words, he believes corporations are people. No, Mitt, corporations are NOT people,” she pronounced. “People have hearts. They have kids. They get jobs. They get sick. They love and they cry and they dance. They live and they die. Learn the difference.” The audience went wild.

Warren’s audience is as ignorant as she is, and that’s the way liberals like it. Welch went on to write:

“What nonsense.

“Of course corporations are people. What else would they be? Buildings don't hire people. Buildings don't design cars that run on electricity or discover DNA-based drug therapies that target cancer cells in ways our parents could never imagine.

“Buildings don't show up at a customer’s factory and say, ‘We won't leave until we solve your inventory problem.’ Buildings don't encourage their employees to mentor inner-city kids in math and science. Buildings don’t fund homeless shelters in Boston or health clinics in Rwanda. People do.”

Let’s turn the tables on the leftists. If corporations aren’t people, then the people who own shares in them should not pay taxes. Why did people go to prison when Enron and WorldCom — both corporations — broke the law?

  • Mr. Incredible, in Jesus' Name

Not "people." "Persons." The difference is significant.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aemoreira81 Adam Moreira

The problem with considering them as EQUAL with individual people is that groups of people cannot be a singular candidate for elected office. Groups of people are still individual people.

    • MichaelSee

Ummm, I think that "groups of people" are what we already have as office-holders and candidates. Oh, we have figureheads/sock puppets for giving speeches and making television appearances, but you can bet that virtually everything that they say has been very, very carefully crafted for a definite purpose.
As an example, watch Mr. Obama reading off a tele-prompter as compared to when he speaks "off-the-cuff". He stumbles and starts, mumbles and is prone to awkward pauses and repetition. He is a very poor public speaker, even though that's his chosen profession. He needs to join the Toastmaster's Club and learn his job.
Mitt's a more accomplished speaker, but not a very good actor. He has all the emotional appeal of a styrofoam dummy. Ronald Reagan was the best example of actor-as-politician.

  • deeme

Anyone too stupid to see what it is they want to do to America should not have the right to vote..this is worse then treason because it was carefully planned out years before it was implemented..
Barack Hussien Obama and his regime have created a vast and rapidly expanding
constituency of voters dependent on big government; a vast privileged class of
public employees who work for big government; and a government dedicated to
destroying capitalism and installing themselves as socialist rulers by
    overwhelming the system.

Add it up and you've got the
    perfect Marxist scheme –

    all devised by my Columbia
University college classmate Barack Hussien Obama using the Cloward and Piven

Correctly attributed to that Wayne guy.

This is ridiculous. For one thing, government jobs are way down since President Obama took office.

      • Steven

If your believe government jobs are not way UP since President Obama took office, you MUST believe the government is LYING about its own employment numbers.

One can equate Obama's new health care plan with Soylent Green. The movie was supposed to take place in the future when the US became overpopulated. At 2012 we find ourselves over run with illegals who are getting healthcare and perks most US citizens can't get. In the movie Soylent Green the old people had to turn themselves into an infirmary when they out ran their usefulness where they were treated to a last night of a good meal and movie of the way things used to be and then put to sleep forever. I can remember folks at the movie saying," that will never happen here." (Right!) Then after death people were taken to a process plant to be made into a protein cookie.
The movie showed how the government was so corrupt people were told to eat Soylent Green not knowing what they were consuming when in fact, they were eating processed dead people. At the end of the movie, Charlton Heston says, next they'll be breeding us like cattle to consume. The movie signified a corrupt government run amok, and out of control.
Not too far off from where we may soon find ourselves.

    • http://twitter.com/BradNova Brad Nova

      How is that like Obamacare?

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/4ENB63ODGUC7YAF5EKZLEAWIAE Mary

If folks are over a certain age say 75 they may be denied treatment say if they had cancer. They may not be allowed chemo but would meet with death panels who would recommend they get put to sleep.
Death panels and denial of care for folks of a certain age with a terminal illness are explicit in Obamacare.

Jesus, has shown the fruit of Capitalism. The story of taking a basket of bread and fish and feeding the masses, with leftovers.

I have been given that knowledge. God works within nataural laws and what we don't know, we call it the M word.

I have now developed a business model with help from God. I have the knowledge to take a dollar(million) and give that dollar(million) to all, over One's life. To make the financed payments, for an individual, business, or organization. To Co-sign a finance purchase for the poor, a business, or anyone and make their payments for them.

I do need help, too help.

  • TheGizmo51

The actions of people in the 1% group are never questioned and they are
not required to explain themselves. They are used to dictating,
stealing, offending, and corrupting whoever and whatever they want. So
when one (mitt) is questioned about anything he has no way of responding
as he is being asked questions he has never had to explain and answer
before. He feels his taxes and everything else about him are his
business and he very much resents allowing anyone in the 99% group to
learn anything about them and him. The 99% are there to be used not to
be acknowledged in any other way. It's the little people who pay the
taxes and go to jail for breaking laws. The 1% create and write the laws
for the 99% and are themselves exempt. So, you see, the mitt only cares
about your vote, the reason for your vote is unimportant and will be
forgotten anyway. Suffice it to say, on any given day whatever the mitt
says is the truth and nothing but the truth on that day.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/4ENB63ODGUC7YAF5EKZLEAWIAE Mary

If your're so concerned about Mitt being transparent why don't you libs request Obama's sealed records. You guy's are the pot calling the kettle black.

      • TheGizmo51

Actually I am very happy mitt is running as the republinos have a bunch of who wouldn't runs that would have had a chance at defeating President Obama. The republino leaders are waiting for 2016 after, they hope, the economy is fixed by President Obama and then they can swoop in claiming that the republinos can do a better job by cutting taxes and growing employment and revenues with no government and no regulations to hinder the job creators.

        • ibelieveinfreedom2

no other way to say it, you're an idiot.

    • http://profiles.google.com/joe.texan Joe Henderson

You are so well-informed! The "little people" pay the taxes? The wealthiest 20% of Americans pay 94% of the taxes! You idiots have gotten to where you use the phrases "the 1%" and "the 99%" as if you really believe there is such a thing. You brainless robots just repeat any phrase you're told to repeat without understanding what you are saying or why you are saying it. Or you could be called "the 47%"-- the 47% of Americans who don't pay any income taxes at all, while the other 53% of us foot the bill for your disgraceful lifestyles.

Why are Mitt's taxes so important to know, when Obozo won't explain how, if he is an American citizen, he traveled to Pakistan when American citizens were forbidden to go there? Why can't Obozo explain how he got such a sweetheart housing deal from convicted felon Tony Rezko? Why can't he explain how he illegally managed to get sealed court documents opened to knock his state senate opponent off the ballot? Why can't he let us see his college admission applications? Is he afraid we'll find out he applied as a foreign student? What about the 31 documented lies in his so-called "autobiography"? When is that book going to be moved to the fiction shelves at Barnes & Noble?

Obozo is nothing but an affirmative action Manchurian candidate who was created by his criminal and communist handlers. That's why he can barely put two coherent words together when he is force to speak extemporaneously. I think he really believes he is the President, and doesn't realize he's just a polished front for all the radical groups that put him in the White House.

    • ibelieveinfreedom2

That must be why the 1% are huge supporters of demonrats and not republicans.

    • ibelieveinfreedom2

what have you got to say about the 49% who are nothing but leaches and contribute nothing to society?

    • ibelieveinfreedom2

you are an ovomit useful tool. when you no longer serve his purposes, you will go the same way as Rev. Wright, Tony Rezco, and his white grandparents that raised him. Let's see, what did they get in return for their support of him? Oh, that's right, A kick in the butt and he pretends they no longer exist. Keep it up useful idiot.

    • ibelieveinfreedom2

When does ovomit lie? When he speaks.

  • TheGizmo51

If you pray at Altar of Corporations they must people or maybe even Gods.

OMG...how stupid are some people....Corporations ARE people...that's what makes them work...not a pretty building!

    • http://twitter.com/BradNova Brad Nova

A corporation is not a person even though the law says they are. You cannot throw a corporation in jail like you can a person.

      • Nadine

WRONG...People make up corporations...spin it all you want!

Corporations are made up of people, but were nonexitant when the Constitution was written and organizations are not what was meant by we the people. Most of the people want transparency!

True , it's the name given to the West Indies Corporation operating in the US under the guise of "Government" .....since February 12th ,1871 . It's parent company is the "city of london ' of London UK .

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Reinhard-Schumann/644757548 Reinhard Schumann

You make absolutely no sense. Whenh Enron and WorldCom broke the law, people working for the coirporations went to prison. Why didn't they send the corporations to prison if they are people? The also let's call corporations to jury duty and, should the draft be reinstated, draft them for military service.

  • OldCyeKoe

Then, I shall posit that "GOVERNMENT IS NOT PEOPLE!!" It is stupid, it is heartless, it is illogical, it is wasteful. It is NOT people.

    • http://twitter.com/BradNova Brad Nova

And the government doesn't qualify for personhood like corporations do.

By calling a corporation a person, the actual people behind the corporation are shielded from from legal responsibility should their product hurt someone. They can decide to sell poisonous chewing gum and at worst the company may have to pay a legal settlement but no one will go to jail.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NLORN6B3ZNGCAJTFHWWFUUEY4Q jong

The problem for the marxist left is that corporations are people that they cannot control. For socialist they just want to suck the blood (money) out of them. Parasites rarely kill the host. Obama is a pure marxist in word and deed and in that must destroy what he can not control.

  • ConservaDave

And what did Obama "save" when he used billions of tax payer dollars to keep unionized auto workers at their well-paid and well-benefitted jobs? Buildings? Factories? Then again, I believe new HHS regulations have started to refer to patients as "units" under Obamacare. Now there's a lot of heart in that law, wannabe Senator Princess Pocahontas Warren?

  • sean murry

How stupid some people corpations are people that makes the world go around.

  • ibelieveinfreedom2

You know, it is almost impossible to comprehend how stupid one must be in order to be a democrat. Seriously, nothing that is ever said by any of them EVER makes a lick of common sense. Anyone with so much as a tenth of a functioning brain should be able to see through their illogical, morally bankrupted theocracy of self-worship. Nothing they ever do or say makes sense yet they think themselves to be superior.

    • yadontwannaknow

Democrates are big consumers of caviar and expencive wines ...if they get thier way , they won't have to pay income taxes on thier shares 😉

  • Blair

According to an article I read in the June 1991 issue of Smithsonian Magazine, the reason why we wanted "A Return To Normalcy" after World War I, (although prior to September 1,
1939, June 22, 1941, and December 7, 1941), it was called "The Great War," was because
the American people turned against the military, and the corporations, and called the corporations "Merchants of Death." Corporate personhood is a legal fiction, but it's necessary.

  • marlio

Corporations are not a people, but just have people working there. Its not the same thing as a group of people, such as democrats or republicans. WE belong to a non profit organization but dont receive a salary from them. Its even different from a union, in that most people who work for certain companies are required to join a union, whether they want to or not. Got to pay off the union boss of course.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MPFFCK7LZSUOH3DEJIJ2HUKXXE Howard T. Lewis III

You would be better off digging weeds. 9-11, Fukushima, HAARP. These are weeds. Corporations are people. People who have forsaken their humanity for filthy lucre at times. People who have tossed away 3/4 of their minds for feelings of superiority through misbegotten legislation. Obsession with personal domination over all is stupid with so many weapons laying around. Corporations are not personal entities, and therefore ineligible to vote. A bribe is a bribe and our prancing circus poodle congress hopping up for a treat each time around does not make it legitimate government.

  • pkeyrich

Let's see what happens when they are told that unions are people! And then have other people tell them unions are NOT people. Right now, many non-profits and not-for-profit organizations are strongly defended by liberals, excepting Christian churches, of course! Personally, if the entity cannot vote in an election, they are not a person, but the operators of the entities still have rights and laws which must be adhered to.

In Soylent Green the world's population is fed with processed dead people because the Seas are dead and the land poisoned.
You make a comparison to the Supreme Court's determination that corporations are people.
So let's process corporations to feed to the people.
