Did Your Senator Oppose the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST)?

For a number of years we’ve been hearing about the dreadful Law of the Sea Treaty, appropriately named LOST. It looks like the 2010 election scuttled attempts to make this horrendous treaty the law. We can thank Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) for leading the way on opposition to it as well as 10 new GOP Senators. Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry’s (D-Mass.) was the big loser. Stupid is as stupid does.

Because 67 votes are required for the Senate to approve treaties, only 34 votes were needed to block LOST. There are 47 Republican Senators. Was your senator missing in action? Here are some Republicans who joined all the Democrats in supporting LOST: John McCain, Susan Collins, Scott Brown, Lisa Murkowski, and Lindsey Graham. Here’s the list of the 34 Republican Senators who voted against LOST:

1. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ)

2. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK)

3. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO)

4. Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS)

5. Sen. David Vitter (R-LA)

6. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI)

7. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)

8. Sen. Jim Demint (R-SC)

9. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK)

10. Sen. John Boozman (R-AR)

11. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)

12. Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID)

13. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)

14. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)

15. Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID)

16. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT)

17. Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY)

18. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL)

19. Sen. John Thune (R-SD)

20. Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC)

21. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)

22. Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN)

23. Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND)

24. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS)

25. Sen. Mark Rubio (R-FL)

26. Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS)

 27. Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV)

 28. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA)

 29. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)

 30. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)

31. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE)

32. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA)

33. Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH)

34. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)

LOST is an international power grab. Those who voted for LOST violated their oath to uphold the Constitution. Remember in November of 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018.

I'm from CT both Senators are Dims and therefore for the LOST Treaty, anything to give away everything the American people have worked for.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Kormster Mike Korman

CT is run by and for the Dems. So everytime I get the call to call "my congress perosons" I just go beat my head against the wall and feel I have done my part.

      • RescueKyron

Hi Mike. I'm laughing outloud and family rushed in to see what's happening. They laughed too... being temporarily transplanted to be your neighbor, venturing into your State many times, things seem ok, the territory is absolutely gorgeous (as a change from west and midwest mountains and plains) very picturesque. People nice, but where there are politics or voting or the rare talking, the scene changes to The Stepford Wives. It's very true, except for the transplants from Hollywood power people who bully people with their natural Chutzpah. Much of that goes on and easy to see how cooperative or intimidated listeners are. It's a beautiful part of our country, but deadly to freedom. Most are easily directed people. Mike, take care of your head, sounds like you have a lot of good sense in it, a rare commodity in CT and "forward" up the map. Didn't mean to miss Massachusetts fer shur. Makes one cringe knowing the great patriot names applied to institutions there. It just doesn't sink in.

        • http://www.facebook.com/Kormster Mike Korman

Man. CT use to be a very good place to live and then the Dem govs took over. At this point the dems have taken over Mass, CT, VT, lower part of maine (north mass). I am trying to get out of CT and go back to NH. Yes, this is no longer the land of the founders.

        • RescueKyron

We will be glad to leave here. Great learning experience, but not enough value in it. Destination to be finalized, but not northeast. This morning a neighbor announced he just got a new job in Wisconsin and is leaving here with family mid-August and very happy. Not a political person, young and with young family. Glad wife won't have to drive again through narrow winding roads especially in winter, to job in CT. Said they will be on border with Illinois (knows enough not to care for Chicagoans' choice of politicians at all). Their location is in area where land is flat and roads wide. Said grandparents there screamed in joy on phone when told. Adore their grandkids and will be great helpers of little family and very beautiful sources of love and comfort for grandkids. Some things work out. Family is critical, even if experience isn't all that good, still nice to know them. Connections. Sorry, off track, just looks good when people have some luck with a job now, and families come back together. Good Luck to you.

People must be really stupid. This treaty has been around for 30 years since President Reagan was in office. Every President on down has had their reservations about signing our sovereignty of the seas over to the UN with the exception of Obama who is gung ho
    ready to sign it.
I believe those who are in favor of the treaty, don't even understand what we are putting ourselves into by giving up our sovereignty. The treaty is appropriately named LOST.
By giving up our sovereignty of the seas we will be forever lost. This is something a horses azze would do. Give up domain of the seas surrounding their country.
This treaty will open us up to invasion by our enemies and this treaty will usher in foreign mercenaries upon our soil if our socialist government deems so fit to do so at some future time. Example: Should the government enact tyranny against the people. Say to confiscate weapons.
This treaty also gives the UN control over our water supply. A little known fact most people aren't aware of. So in the future if we were invaded our right to bear arms could be taken,
should the government deem necessary under the small arms treaty and our water supply cut off as a means to control the people.
On top of that, we will have to share our drilling revenues with 3rd world nations and the US get's nothing out of it. This goes with the socialist marxist philosophy of sharing the wealth.

    • RLM357

The answer is simple Quit the Uniteed Nations that we support 85% of costs, and use that money to pay down the National Debt. Tell the U.N to vacate the UN Bldg in NYC. or PAY RENT to the US Giovernment Treasury! Than Cut all funding to unfriendly Nations. The U.N., (formerly the League of Nations {that failed} ) is anti USA. It had 24 Communists write the original Formation Papers of Intent and origin. The US members (2) were ignored and silenced. ~Rick Magee, FL

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1447020634 'Louise Watts

I agree get the H out of the UN. This fake Pres is tying our hand behind our backs by tying us up in treaties that we have NO business in. Destroy this Nation he will if we do not kick him out.

    • Phil

Our right to have arms can only be taken away if we LET it be taken away,
Our Forefathers in their own words (in the Federalist Papers..read them) stated
their views that We the People, not only have a "RIGHT" to keep and bear arms,
but we have an "OBLIGATION" to do so, not only to protect ourselves from threats
from without...but from threats within our own borders.
It was clear in their minds following the break from England's control, and unfair taxation, and invasion of our new nation, and these Constitutional laws and
Amendments were to protect us from that ever happening again.
NO law may be made, or enacted if it is in conflict with our Constitution. If this is attempted, the law is ILLEGAL and UNCONSTITUTIONAL, and therefore
unenforceable. Our right to bear arms cannot be taken away by force, or treaty, or law. We the people must not accept that. Anyone attempting this (ie Obama andHillary Clinton), are not acting in America's interest. You probably don't remember the meeting Hillary and Obama had at Nancy Pelosi's home around the time of Obama's election. You may not know that Hillary took Obama to a meeting of the Bilderberg Group, of which they both are members, and for the New World Order. We have much to be concerned about if these individuals keep pushing for us to lose our rights.

  • Screeminmeeme

No surprise that McCain and Graham voted for it. They are RINOs thru and thru.

    • colleenf

They are worse than RINOs. I cannot say what they really are as the moderator would not allow it, and besides, my mama did not raise me to have such a foul mouth!

      • shannon853

see if they allow traitors.. that works for me.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jtkenney2 John T. Kenney

Do you think we could sell McCain to the Mexicans ? He seems to like it down there and he probably be right at home. Drinking tequila and sucking on his thumb between pacifier breaks.

        • shannon853

sell him? hell, we would have to pay them to take him!

      • RescueKyron

Mine, a descendant of patriots, taught me about Freedom of Speech. Today the govt tells us If You See Something Say Something. I see ol' McCain as a freak of nature, weirdo, hater, cruel being whose military papa had conversations with his cong captors in 'nam. McCain must have been a valuable asset to the cong who could make him cry for papa to hear and cooperate by doing or not doing what the cong said. Wonder how many American boys were killed because of baby McCain. Funny how papa got him home, put him in politics as a hero, even got him in the head job to oversee retrieval of MISSING IN ACTION. How many did that war hero bring back? ha ha ha ho ho ho, you are going to be returned to another cage in eternity, McCain, one that you deserve and there will be many who suffered standing with God observing justice for your deceit. Ol' Lindsey, looks like he is possessed or just itchy and can't sit still. No wonder why.

    • NCBigmouth

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Reinhard-Schumann/644757548 Reinhard Schumann

Notice that most Senators from coastal states voted for the treaty. They know what it is all about. Did the others even read it? If they did, it was way over their heads.

        • sha49tn

Surely you don't think it's ok to give other countries control over our territory do you? Or are you one of the socialists? No matter what good was in there, just the fact that the UN would be in charge over US territorial waters, was enough to make it stink to most of us!

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Reinhard-Schumann/644757548 Reinhard Schumann

Perhaps I am wrong, but doesn't the law apply only to water outside of territorial boundaries?

        • Ron

Temporarily, but when our Navy goes outside the territorial limits, the UN would control them. Then the UN would tax the US.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Reinhard-Schumann/644757548 Reinhard Schumann

Do you really believe that the UN would tax the US Navy? Can the UN tax anybody?

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Roger-Meyer/1785162356 Roger Meyer

If this treaty had been ratified that was one of the provisions, to allow for taxation of ALL vessels that sailed on THEIR oceans.

        • John Hunter

It would mean that even those that fish for a living would nave to pay a tax to fish.

        • quipster

      • John Hunter

Explain how LOST would benefit the US

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Reinhard-Schumann/644757548 Reinhard Schumann

There would be clear rules about the rights of all nations on the open ocean outside of territorial waters, to include exployting the ocean bottom. It also gives us the tools to stop the overfishing of the oceans by rogue nations. It helps us all if potential conflicts are defused before they start.

    • sha49tn

I have come to the conclusion that almost ALL of the Senate AND the House are nothing more than wolves in sheep's clothing! With the exception of a very few, the majority are in this to line their pockets, & could care less about we the people, the Constitution, OR this country!

      • John Hunter

Many, maybe most politicians are controlled by the Bilderbergers.
Thus they believe that giving up sovereignty, removing borders,
doing away with the constitution, disarming everyone except a peace
keeping force of the UN, and merging all nations into one world government
will bring in utopia. In short they are Satan's workers.
They are building the Tower of Babel all over again.
It is prophesied for the Last Days. When it becomes time for it, we will
not be able to stop it.

    • Don39

You forget he facilitated the election of the current fraud!

      • RubyBlu

Facilitated? He 'gave' it to him. And everyone blames Palin!

    • RLM357

McCain rose to power as a POW. However, All his fellow POW's would said publically that they would NOT Vote for him. They would Not Divulge why, as per an agreement amongst themselves, to never bad mouth a fellow POW ( Viet Nam Era). McCain was treated humanely while a POW, as opposed to his fellow POW's. His father was an Admiral. The VC's knew this and capitalized on it. McCain has always been a RINO. The Left praised him as a Maverick. He must go ! So should Hanoi Jane Fonda! ~Rick Magee, FL.

      • dntmkmecomoverther

McCain states that he was hoisted up with a rope tied around his wrists, while his hands were behind his back...that's why he can't raise his arms above his waste today. That's not humaine in my book...and it sure doesn't explain his odd votes today. This man is an odd duck indeed.

        • Veteranasm

He left his balls in veit nam, that's why he is a sissy rino, graham he is a wussie on his own !!!

        • dntmkmecomoverther

Thanks for your service btw…I sure wish we had ended that ‘war’ on a different note…and I sure wish McCain loved his freedom more than his votes reveal…

        • Ron

What you have to remember is: We won the war. It was not until a year and a half later that our Government gave South Vietnam to North Vietnam.

        • dntmkmecomoverther

We ‘won’ that skirmish by wasting away far too many of our good men and women for far too long a time period. Our rules of engagement caused wholesale slaughter of many of my buddies who flew into NVC territory and could not shoot or engage until a positive visual ID was confirmed (which if you are a pilot, you have to know is just ridiculous…that’s what your REO is for).

And don’t even get me started on Frequent Wind in ’75…we indeed ‘gave’ SVN to the communists. So in essence all our dead from VN meant nothing. I couldn’t be more frustrated.

  • WVF

Any Senator who voted for this unconstitutional treaty should be summarily voted out in November or, in the case of RINO McCain, should be recalled!

    • Don39

None of the above listed are november targets and will be free to betray the nation for several more years!

      • DaveN59

The LOST Treaty is appropriately named because it would caused to loose Freedom of the Sea, including movement of military ships and would have cost us vast sums to be paid to the UN for the use of "THEIR" oceans.

Descendants or copycats of the Royal arse kissers, the Loyalists, still hang out on the east coast, from NY up. They stick around there in their comfy little power groups still trying to get revenge on the Patriots who kicked the King out. After the Revolution, the arse kissers couldn't get good jobs because the Patriots were in power and made things really good there, and with their love of this country they were the ones who ventured on westward. The arse kissers could not risk it. They had to stay put. The Patriots, the Pioneers would let the loyalists' wagons sit in the muddy rivercrossings, they would never help them fix anything, or give them shelter, medical help or food or safety. The loyalists were prisoners in the east. Some ventured west after the trails were blazed and the roads cleared by the real new American Men and Women. Pioneer women did their part in rejecting Loyalist females. Loyalists had killed Patriots and they were not going to be accepted in civilized society. North easterners whose families were there during the revolution are only welcome in Hollywood. Hollywood saw the open door and has shipped a lot of their ilk that easily influenced those native loyalist descendants and got a stranglehold on politics. Not young blood is needed, just the return of descendants of Patriots is needed to retake the territory. Seriously.

And to think I was dumb enough to vote for McCain 4 years ago, although I did so with lots of reservations, and basically because the other choice was even worse.

I guess you must be a democrat then. You cant be a conservative or you would have voted for Hayworth. So if you dont like McCain and Hayworth, logically that means you must be a liberal democrat.

John Kerry is embarrassing enough, but Scott Brown is a big disappointment in regards to LOST. Unfortunately, I will still have to vote for Scott in November, because Elizabeth Warren would be a total disaster, but next time around Scott may find a real Conservative challenging him. As for Kerry, the people of MA have got to get off their rear ends and boot him out - he's a disgrace, and has been for a very long time.

    • Don39

Need Brown ? WHY? He has voted with the left more on critical issues than not! It has not been three weeks sinse he sided with the radical sociocommunist environmental block against the coal industry! Joining other traitors listed above Alexander, Snowe, Collins, in addition to Ayotte, providing victory despite the siding of several democrats with our conservative! Even Graham (SC) could not stomach that vote!

There is no hope to recover the Constituional Republic until these RINOs are gone, as well as the leftist traitors!

Lindsay Graham and McCain need to go that's for sure and Collins, every time I see her and hear her speak I want to scream.

  • Stogie

I heard two rumors about LOST that I hope someone can dispel. First that there are indeed some treaties that a President can sign which would take effect regardless of the Senate's stance. Second, that if a treaty of this nature was signed, it would become law immediately and it would take 2/3s of the Senate to either ratify or throw it out for anything further to happen. Will somebody not only respond but send a link detailing this please?

How can anyone expect anything other than what these Commies are for.McCain's mind was so messed up from his prison time in Vietnam. He should be ashame of what he has supported with Lost. But in his mind he thinks he did right. The people of this country have the opportunity to vote him and his Commie friends out.But will the American Loving People stand up and rid them of there high and mighty power?

So glad to see that my two senators from Utah voted against this terrible treaty. Any senator who voted for it, needs their heads examined to see if they even have one. To allow the UN to decide ANYTHING for this country is insanity at its worst! Now Obama has declared another Executive Order saying that the government can if needs be, control ALL communications through out the country if the President feels there's any kind of threat. This means, internet, telephones, both land lines and cell phones, satellite, cable and TV stations. What next? PLEASE, we must notify our representatives in Washington that enough is enough. Obama if re-elected could then make an EO that would do away with elections making him dictator and anyone who opposes him would be arrested, thrown into a government run prison and left to rot! I am thinking seriously of packing up and moving as far away as possible from this country and insane President.

  • AZ BOB

Add that to a President and those in Congress who voted in the unlawful ACA (Obama care).
There is not a enumerated power in the Constitution that the Federal government has to TAX medical. Thus they all should be impeached for violating there oath of office.

The Law of the Sea Treaty would have established a code of conduct for all matters on the high seas more than 200 miles away from national boundaries. This treaty would have been in the best interest of the USA unless we have plans to claim the high seas as our own territory. Anybody who fails to understand this has no brains, which apparently applies to most Republican senators.
Of course the treaty is now international law, even though it does not apply to the USA as long as the Senate has not ratified it.

For anybody who waxes eloquent about the subject without knowing what the treaty is all about, here it is:

The issue of varying claims of territorial waters was raised in the UN in 1967 by Arvid Pardo, of Malta, and in 1973 the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea was convened in New York.
In an attempt to reduce the possibility of groups of nation-states
dominating the negotiations, the conference used a consensus process
rather than majority vote. With more than 160 nations participating, the
conference lasted until 1982. The resulting convention came into force
on November 16, 1994, one year after the sixtieth state, Guyana, ratified the treaty.

The convention introduced a number of provisions. The most
significant issues covered were setting limits, navigation, archipelagic
status and transit regimes, exclusive economic zones
(EEZs), continental shelf jurisdiction, deep seabed mining, the
exploitation regime, protection of the marine environment, scientific
    research, and settlement of disputes.

The convention set the limit of various areas, measured from a carefully defined baseline.
(Normally, a sea baseline follows the low-water line, but when the
coastline is deeply indented, has fringing islands or is highly
unstable, straight baselines may be used.) The areas are as follows:

Internal watersCovers all water and waterways on the landward side of the baseline.
The coastal state is free to set laws, regulate use, and use any
resource. Foreign vessels have no right of passage within internal
waters.Territorial watersOut to 12 nautical miles (22 kilometres; 14 miles) from the
baseline, the coastal state is free to set laws, regulate use, and use
any resource. Vessels were given the right of innocent passage through any territorial waters, with strategic straits allowing the passage of military craft as transit passage,
in that naval vessels are allowed to maintain postures that would be
illegal in territorial waters. "Innocent passage" is defined by the
convention as passing through waters in an expeditious and continuous
manner, which is not "prejudicial to the peace, good order or the
security" of the coastal state. Fishing, polluting, weapons practice,
and spying are not "innocent", and submarines and other underwater
vehicles are required to navigate on the surface and to show their flag.
Nations can also temporarily suspend innocent passage in specific areas
of their territorial seas, if doing so is essential for the protection
of its security.Archipelagic watersThe convention set the definition of Archipelagic States in Part IV,
which also defines how the state can draw its territorial borders. A
baseline is drawn between the outermost points of the outermost islands,
subject to these points being sufficiently close to one another. All
waters inside this baseline are designated Archipelagic Waters.
The state has full sovereignty over these waters (like internal waters),
but foreign vessels have right of innocent passage through archipelagic
waters (like territorial waters).Contiguous zoneBeyond the 12 nautical mile limit, there is a further 12 nautical miles from the territorial sea baseline limit, the contiguous zone, in which a state can continue to enforce laws in four specific areas: customs, taxation, immigration and pollution,
if the infringement started within the state's territory or territorial
waters, or if this infringement is about to occur within the state's
territory or territorial waters.[4] This makes the contiguous zone a hot pursuit area.Exclusive economic zones (EEZs)These extend from the edge of the territorial sea out to 200 nautical miles (370 kilometres; 230 miles) from the baseline.
Within this area, the coastal nation has sole exploitation rights over
all natural resources. In casual use, the term may include the
territorial sea and even the continental shelf. The EEZs were introduced
to halt the increasingly heated clashes over fishing rights, although oil was also becoming important. The success of an offshore oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico
in 1947 was soon repeated elsewhere in the world, and by 1970 it was
technically feasible to operate in waters 4000 metres deep. Foreign
nations have the freedom of navigation and overflight, subject to the
regulation of the coastal states. Foreign states may also lay submarine
pipes and cables.Continental shelfThe continental shelf is defined as the natural prolongation of the land territory to the continental margin’s
outer edge, or 200 nautical miles from the coastal state’s baseline,
whichever is greater. A state’s continental shelf may exceed 200
nautical miles until the natural prolongation ends. However, it may
never exceed 350 nautical miles (650 kilometres; 400 miles) from the
baseline; or it may never exceed 100 nautical miles (190 kilometres; 120
miles) beyond the 2,500 meter isobath (the line connecting the depth of
2,500 meters). Coastal states have the right to harvest mineral and
non-living material in the subsoil of its continental shelf, to the
exclusion of others. Coastal states also have exclusive control over
living resources "attached" to the continental shelf, but not to
creatures living in the water column beyond the exclusive economic zone.

Aside from its provisions defining ocean boundaries, the convention
establishes general obligations for safeguarding the marine environment
and protecting freedom of scientific research on the high seas, and also
creates an innovative legal regime for controlling mineral resource
exploitation in deep seabed areas beyond national jurisdiction, through
an International Seabed Authority and the Common heritage of mankind principle.[5]

Mr. Schumann you are incredibly naive or either down right dumb. All these treaties look good on the surface but they have ulterior motives.
These treaties are for all intents and purposes designed to strip America of her sovereignty and put us under the UN or NWO.
Let me put it this way, if you had a home and all your assets and possessions and someone came to you and said, we're stripping you of all your worldly possessions, things that you specifically worked hard for all your life, would you hand them over for nothing on a silver platter knowing you're not getting anything out of it?
And worse yet, giving over your free liberty for it. Would you?
You're not going to convince any of us here your right unless your convincing another liberal idiot. And there's a few on the boards who may agree with you.

Few people see the socialism that could not be foisted on us through city, state, and federal law, has now been proposed as an international treaty and is backed up with the policy/regulations of beaureas/agencies as dictated by the not senatorially approved "Czars" which Obama simply appointed in an undemocratic and unconstitutional manner. Fewer people know how much land the federal government has simply taken from the American people in the last two years. The state run media omits what is really happening. Our food and water supply is not even safe from these oligarchic and socialist plantation masters and thugs.

I just had a great thought, after we vote the incompetent ones that voted for this garbage out, they go work for the sanitation department, because who would know more about garbage than these idiots.

Vote them out in November B.S., let arrest them now try them in 2 weeks and execute them in public the day after they are conviction & sentanced, because they have all violated their OATH OF OFFICE which is TREASON. We only have to lock and load 75 rounds to take care of all who comitted this crime.
