Jindal Should Stop Slamming Romney For the Truth

When Mitt Romney was caught on video saying that he couldn’t reach the 47 percent, I was one of the conservatives who were unhappy with him. But that doesn’t mean his recent comments about how Obama bought this election were wrong. Jindal needs to not let his ambitions for the Presidency box in the GOP so that its brand is even more damaged.

Originally, Romney was caught making comments that implied that he could never reach people who were dependent on government or (worse) who paid no income taxes. I thought was a really bad attitude. I knew people who had never qualified for income tax and who were even recipients of government transfers who never considered voting for anyone but Romney. Being poor and dependent doesn’t always make you stupid, or comfortable with slavery.

But now the election is over, and Romney analyzed Obama’s advantage:

“’The Obama campaign was following the old playbook of giving a lot of stuff to groups that they hoped they could get to vote for them and be motivated to go out to the polls, specifically the African American community, the Hispanic community and young people,’ Romney told hundreds of donors during a telephone town hall Wednesday. ‘In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups.’”

And then almost immediately, we hear from Governor Bobby Jindal, that Romney’s comments were “absolutely wrong.”

They absolutely were nothing of the kind. All you have to do is go look at how the media said that Obama was doing better than Romney. They said repeatedly that Romney had nothing to offer Black, Hispanic, and young voters. At the second debate, Obama went after Romney on not offering free contraceptives and abortions. He insisted that Obamacare was a handout that would help especially women in their “pocketbooks.”

Slate Magazine, reported on this already, without noticing that it was some kind of controversial view of how Obama won. It reported that Romney’s advisors,

“envy [Obama’s] ability to leverage the presidency for his campaign. Young voters were told about new provisions for student loans and Obama’s support for same-sex marriage, an issue that appeals to young voters. Hispanic voters were wooed by the president’s plan to waive the deportation of children of illegal immigrants. One Romney aide also included the much-debated changes to welfare requirements as a policy aimed to win over African-American voters. ‘It was like they had a calendar,’ said one Romney aide. With each month, the Obama administration rolled out a new policy for a different segment of their coalition they hoped to attract. [emphasis added].”

And we all saw the video about how “your first time” should care if you have contraception.

Jindal has a lot of good things to say about the Republican Party and how it should address the future. And there were a lot of reasons that Romney lost other than what he said in that conference call. Besides, Team Romney/Ryan didn’t have clean hands on the “winning with gifts” strategy either.

But the fact remains that Obama ran by offering free stuff, and he thinks you should love him for it. He doesn’t hide it. He basks in it and boasts in it. He has been known to laugh at the idea that the Republicans will fight Obamacare because the people will be used to getting other peoples’ money. He says he believes in wealth redistribution and in spreading the wealth.

We absolutely need to have a confident message, as Jindal says, to all voters. But we need to not grandstand on someone else for the truth they told. Obama offers free money. That isn’t just what he does; it is how he identifies himself.

We can’t flatter voters and pretend otherwise.

I am a career resident of Louisiana. Most Louisiana Governors begin their watch with good conservative intentions. However, somewhere down their tenure they stray to the left. Nominating Jindal for the Presidential seat would be as devastating as nominating Romney.

    • Kittyhane

      I'll campaign against Jindal

  • Screeminmeeme

I liked how Jindal handled things during the oil spill but he's wrong on this. Romney was absolutely right in pointing out that voters were bribed by Obama.

The traditional cannibalism of the loser has begun.

    • Kittyhane

Jindal just lost me as a supporter. Now demorats are shouting the 'race card' about criticism of Rice. I am so sick and tired of this race bating by the demorats. I will NEVER support a democrat no matter who runs against them.

      • Anne Caston

They always shout Race when a black person in the government make a dumbass thing or says some dumbass thing. Not because they are dumbasses its because they are dumbass blacks!

        • ladyhuckleberry

Not all blacks are dumbasses. What's you impression of Alan West? He's way smarter than the puppet Odumbo. At least West can communicate and relate what he's wanting to say without being manipulated by a puppet master.

        • SickoftheBS

So can Herman Cain and Condelza Rice but they are not Democrats , so that makes them Uncle Tom's and Aunt Jamimas I guess!

        • DixieAngel_76

Too bad we didn't have Allen West running for president.

        • ladyhuckleberry

Sadly the majority of whites in this Country are predjustice and won't vote for a black man. I'm not kidding, lying, or just running my mouth to be talking. Alan West has got the balls to back up his education and what he's saying but there's still people in this Country who feel superior.

        • 1775concord

Sorry, "lady," but you are wrong. In the past 4 years, I NEVER heard one comment from anyone I know...Republican or Democrat...demeaning Obama because his skin happens to be black.
I liked what Herman Cain had to say...too bad someone (not a conservative) wanted to get rid of him
People whose skin happens to be black have excelled and are recognized in the Republican party...Allen West, Condi Rice, Michael Steele, Mia Love, as examples. And Thomas Sowell...conservative..is one of the best economic writers and thinkers in the USA.
But if they express conservative views, they are called "Uncle Toms" by those blacks who are themselves prejudiced against people with white skin...note that 95+% of blacks voted for Obama.
What does bother some people, black or white, is what happened to Obama: admitted to Harvard Law School as a minority/affirmative action candidate. BTW, we don't like Elizabeth
Warren's (white) lying about being 1/32 Cherokee to get her job either.

        • OrdeMiller

          to 1775,
In the information age, you uneducated slob con-servatives impress fewer and fewer Americans with your ignorant whines, lies, and scams. Utah voted overwhelmingly for the Mormon fraud, ranging from 58% to 87% of the vote in the 4th Congressional district, but the overwhelmingly Republican voters of Utah sent a Democrat to Congress instead of a Republican woman of African heritage. In the information age, slob con-servatives who can do nothing but lie, are a dwindling minority.

        • sgt524

You just might want to take away that credit for Michael Steele he said he voted for Obama.

        • mwilk999

You've really eaten up that lying propoganda. I think anyone who believes that major prejustic lives in the US is in non-reality and must not get out of the house. You're about 100 years behind time. African Americans were at one time mainly Republican and conservative until the NAACP and Human Rights group, and Planned Parenthood (Margaret Sanger the eugenist and she hated the black race enough to create an oranization to eradicate them as much and quickly and painfull as possible) came into being. And, you need to speak for yourself and not the white race. If people you know are racists that's your world, not ours.

        • DG

Here too...sorry Lady it happens to be the colored folks who keep bringing it up ! I for One wish everyone would just claim to be an American !!! One Nation Under God !!!

      • ladyhuckleberry

If Gov Jindal lost you as a supporter did you support him or the party?

    • Mike Tanco

It's not only Obama that bribes voters. The Democrats have been buying votes ever since FDR. Welfare is a way of life for some families. There are 7 generations of welfare families in certain states. States like Texas and many others are supporting people in states where welfare is the norm.
The Democrats keep their base by keeping them uneducated and stupid.

      • http://www.facebook.com/mike.lambert.79274 Mike Lambert

repubcants are the ones keeping their base dumb.texas has 20 percent of its people without health insurance, also fool red states are the real welfare states look it up,for every dollar sent to washington they get back an 1.10,blue states get back .90 of every dollar.red states pay lowest wages to its people working poor you know the 47 precent.

    • Doodlebug

I honestly do not believe that Romney meant anything "bad" when he made that comment and Screemin, you are right that Romney simply was pointing out that he (Romney) would not get those votes. He probably didn't say it right but there certainly wasn't anything wrong with pointing out how obummer operates and, we all need to be aware of this. obummer continues to operate single handedly without regard to Congress and the Constitution and he will certainly continue for the next four years and beyond. Don't expect anything glorious from this guy - one lie after another is what we have to look forward to! And, Bobby Jindal, bury the hatchet, you could have a great future in politics if obummer doesn't screw us. I wish I wouldn't have the feeling that something big will happen during these four years that will leave obummer the dictator of this country. Goodbye America!

Governor Jindal just committed a statement of stupid that took him off my list of any consideration for future President. His his playing to the minority groups for which he is a member. Stupid is as stupid does. No chance for my support.

Stop and think for a minute. He could have done us a favor. We have to unite as a party. We have to do what it will take to win another election. This is a blessing in disguise. Mitt was and is a good man.

    • Dave

Are we doing away with the Constitutional eligibility requirements just because the no-spine rinos let the socialist communists get away with it?

  • carrieanne

I thought Romney was the right man to be elected president. It isn't clear if voters were afraid of his being a Mormon, though. I remember when John Kennedy ran for the office of the Presidency- a lot of voters were afraid of Catholics. He proved that being president had nothing to do with anyone's religion. As far as I'm concerned Mitt Romney would have been a great president.

    • Kittyhane

At least Mitt is an upright man. Religion (except for athiests) has nothing to do with it. After all we have a muslim in there now wrecking America

      • omg

And he HATES Americans. Just likes their money. So does michelle. How many more trips and wardrobes will she get/take in the next four years. The cost for her clothes is 10X my clothing budget (at a minimum). SOON, there will be NO ONE paying taxes. Why should they if obamy is giving it all away!

    • twocolts

Romney is a good man, but not the right man. It takes a certain grit to take on a criminal dressed as Santa Claus...he obviously doesn't have it.

yes..what it takes to win the 'mob' is not what would be the right character as our President. Sad sad sad. The mob and the brain dead outnumber thinking people now.

No wonder zombies are so popular - they all voted for Obama.

      • Phillip Gray

Wrong! Its really hard to win a fixed election, unless of course ur the 1 doin the fixin. Obama pulled out all the stops on this thing: bribery, massive voter fraud of every variety in every swing state, lied, discredited & defamated romney's character at every level. This country has been bought & paid for by oblunder & co.... sure as hell wish we could get a refund!

      • Anne Caston

Yeah and Papa Joe Kennedy bought votes and the Mob got the unions in line. Don't think for a minute Kennedy's election wasn't paid for. Then, he probably got popped by the Mob when Brother Bobby was going after them as AG and JFK wasn't stopping him.

    • JennieWalsh

Great president? Romney? As long as you, like Romney, are in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (TYRANNICAL ANNIHILATION of the 4TH AMENDMENT) and socialized/communist government controlled Big Brother HELLth care. Romney must NOT be a GOOD Mormon because the Mormons are very much in favor of CONSTITUTIONAL government; whereas, Romney is all over the place and totally ignores the EVILS of the most diabolical enemies of America, the secret servants of Satan, known as the international bankers.... who just happened to finance his campaign.

Ron Paul, who has consistently held to constitutional and sound economic principles and foreign policy of peace and trade, would have made a GREAT president but, of course, he would have put the bankster-gangsters who own the Satanic neo-con Federal Reserve and have been robbing the American people blind for the last 100 years out of business. By abolishing the Federal Reserve and its sister Satanic neo-con private RACKETEERING RIP-OFF organized crime outfit known as the IRS, Ron Paul would have truly freed America from the SECRET ECONOMIC DICTATORSHIP and GRAND THEFT of the Satanic neo-con globalists' organized crime cartel, the international bankster-gangsters.

Google: The Bible and Ron Paul ---13 short videos showing how God's Biblical Laws for civil government, USA's constitution and Ron Paul's policies, books, teachings and 100% constitutional voting record all line up perfectly with each other.

The bankster-gangsters OWN the mainstream media so, of course, they blocked out Ron Paul and all the other candidates who would have abolished the Federal Reserve and the IRS. Did you notice that ONLY the Republican and Democratic candidates were permitted into the presidential debates? The Satanic globalist neo-cons control BOTH the Reps and the Dems and did not really care which one of their puppets was elected to destroy America. With Obama, they get their communist dictator; with Romney they would have gotten the perfect war monger. Either way, its the road to destruction for America.

Hopefully, America will survive the next 4 years, by the Grace of God; and hopefully, the American people won't be buffaloed by the Satanic neo-cons into voting for one of their two evils in 2016.
WARNING!!! Do NOT seek medical help under Obamacare!
The whole system is nothing more than a HUGE, organized crime
RACKETEERING, RIP-OFF SCAM! The Satanic neo-con organized criminals in
congress and Satanic neo-con bureaucrats set up the system to rake in
trillion$ and to dole out, relatively speaking, nickels, dimes and
pennies to the so-called "beneficiaries". If the RACKETEERS do not get
their expected "due", they will lighten the load of
"beneficiaries" through murder. They have a very well stocked arsenal
of biological murder weapons that make death look like "natural causes".
Bacteria, parasites, spirochetes, viruses, poisons, dangerous/deadly
drugs, ultra high doses of radiation etc. make up their arsenal. Their
      doctors, nurses, pharmacists, coroners, morticians,
judges, lawyers, health care professionals, news reporters,
congressmen, teachers, sport coaches, car repairmen and many more will
assist in executing and covering up the murders. They are also very
expert at "suicides" and "accidents". These organized criminals attend
secret seminars, meetings, classes, retreats to learn efficient ways of
murder, theft, bribery, extortion, and every conceivable criminal method
of operation. They secretly call themselves "Us" and "Satan
Worshippers". They have remote viewer satellite computer, surveillance
equipment that can watch anyone, anywhere, anytime and can tell if you
have pain, nausea, itching, any sensation (internal or external) and can
even diagnose diseases etc. and can analyze your emotions. It seems
that they CAUSE most, if not all, diseases either directly or indirectly
through the above list of biological weapons, genetically modified
foods, herbicides, pesticides, chemtrails, flouride and 38 other
toxic chemicals in the water supply and etc. They especially watch for
fear, because through fear, they know your weak points and how they can
"get you". ("Get you" means corrupt you, hurt you, destroy your life or
kill you.) They also look for what is the desire of your heart, what
you really, really want so they can trade you that for your allegiance
to the Kingdom of Satan and your soul. They own and control the music
and entertainment industries. They have taken over MANY positions of
power, control, leadership, ownership and governmental positions at
every level in every nation of the world. They have evil honed to an
art and a science. This is NO JOKE. The Satanic organized criminals get control
of nations through communist/socialist/economic dictatorship/dole out
programs to get people dependent on them so as to grow their own power
and wealth. (Get everyone to bow down to the "beast".) I hope people will soon wake up and wise up to recognize the
"wolves in sheep's clothing" who do great
evil while pretending to "do good". Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barrack
Obama, Eric Holder are just a few examples of the wolves in sheep's
clothing who pretend to do good, while ripping off and destroying the
      American people.
If America had been following and
guarding the constitution since 1812, the criminals would not have been
able to steal, plunder, corrupt and destroy so much throughout America.
The international bankster-gangsters/secret servants of Satan/global
organized crime syndicate/Bilderbergers/Committee of 300/Council of
      Foreign Relations/International Monetary Fund/World Bank/Federal
      Reserve/IRS/Department of Commerce/Dept. of Interior/Dept. of
Energy/Dept. of Education/HUD/Dept. of Homeland Security and MANY other
Satanic organizations would not be able to get away with their money
scams and their grand theft of America's wealth; control of businesses
and industries; indoctrination, corruption and dumbing down of
      America's children.

If America had been following the constitution for the last 100 years (NO FEDERAL RESERVE & IRS) every American would be so wealthy that healthcare, college education, home and car purchases, travel, vacations etc., all would be easily affordable WITHOUT USURY/DEBT/LOANS from the Satanic bankster-gangster money manipulating scam specialists.

      The Satanic IRS
has forced all churches to become 501.3c religious corporations under
the jurisdiction of the Satanic IRS. If any church leader speaks out
against Agenda 21 or any of the plots and conspiracies of the Satanists,
they lose their tax exempt status. This is, plainly and simply, loss
of Freedom of Speech through extortion.

      Obama is a lying,
communist con man and a puppet of the international
bankster-gangsters/Kingdom of Satan/global organized crime cartel. The
same bankster-gangsters who are financing Obama's campaign are also
financing Romney's campaign. Romney will say whatever he has to say to
whoever he has to say it in order to be elected. He has not said
anything about what he plans to do to correct the many wrongs and
criminal activities going on in America's government. The
bankster-gangsters know that Romney's ambition makes him their perfect
      puppet. The
Kingdom of Satan did not care which of their puppets (two evils) got
elected. The Satanists would be behind the scenes and pulling the
strings if either of them is elected.

haven't you heard ??? One district in Penn. had a 141% voter turnout. In Ohio, two districts had 100% voters voting for ozebra, with R&R getting 0% of the votes. A guy testified before some committee that he was called to fix some voting machines that were only voting for ozebra, even when the person voting pushed the Romney button. He said that he was there for maybe a half hour or so, and he NEVER saw one voter who was able to push the Romney button without it voting instead for ozebra. That NEVER happened when the vote was FOR ozebra. I believe that in the days to come, the full volume of fraud will come out.

Voting laws do need to be changed. In the first place, if you don't have any skin in the game, ie PAY REAL ESTATE TAXES, (Re-introduce the poll tax for those productive citizens who choose to rent) you're out. If you're on welfare, bye-bye. If you can't pass a simple civics test, (How many senators are there etc.) sorry. If you can't read the ballot, or follow instructions on voting procedures, tough, you don't vote. Elections would have vastly different outcomes if not for LBJ's (ahem) "Great Society" which opened the door to the moochers, ignorant welfare bums, and a host of other dregs on society.

We were warned, even as our Nation was being born, that this would occur should we allow our Republic to degenerate into a Democracy!
By our founders; "Remember, Democracy never lasts long! It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself! There never was a Democracy yet that did not commit suicide" John Adams
Foreign observers, explained the dangers as well; " The American Republic will endure, UNTILL the politicians realize that they can bribe the People, with their own money" Alexis de Tocqueville 1787 and " A democracy cannot exist as a permenant form of Government. It can only exist untill the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the Public Treasury! Alexander Fraser Tytler 1787
We also had it explained in our own time; " Unless Democracy is to commit suicide by consenting to it's own destruction, it will have to find some formidable answer to those who come to it saying; " I demand from you in the name of your principles, the rights, which I shall deny you later, in the name of my principles" Walter Lippmann

In this case both are right and wrong. Romney is correct in his bread and circuses that Obama has promised and Jindal is correct in that we did not forcefully tell the public that Obama is a godless marxist that will throw the mostly conservative Hispanic vote under the bus at the nearest opportunity We need to learn from both and not attack and destroy ourselves from with in. The Demoncrats are destroying themselves with re-electing a marxist that has already divided the party and will lead to more defections from them for the simple reason they are socialist and would like to be reelected.

Just lie and lie and lie because the stupid thoughtless, mindless idiots of America will believe anything as long as you promise free stuff; free big screens, free cars, a bigger welfare check etc... Free, free, free and stupid, stupid, stupid go hand in hand. You can thank your public schools and the demonic scumbags you employ as teachers for indoctrinating multiple generations of children right under your noses. Why? because you were too busy chasing success, money, position etc.... America is getting what America deserves. if you really want to stop this slide.... FOMENT TOTAL ANARCHY !

This is normal wolf pack behavior. When the Alpha dog is wounded, the youger males vie for his position in the pack. I hear the same kinds of things coming from Rubio talkng about Hispanic needs and how the party should include them. I once heard that there were enough Hispanics in the US to elect a president if we could only figure out who it would be. In the US there are Spanish, Mexican, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, etc. etc. and they (we) don't always see eye to eye on many things much less politics.

Funny how Republicans slamming Romney for telling truth's, are coming out of the woodwork...apparently, the truth does hurt, even with some Republicans, the ones wanting to distance themselves from several truth's that supposedly caused the defeat of Romney. Just more proof that our nation is rotting from within.

  • Ron Obvious

Jindal is just being the RINO he has always been... just like Christie's Obama smooch! Both are RINO's and BOTH are high on the list for 2016 GOP Pres. Candidate!!! If you haven't started yet, Taps would be appropriate for the 'Conservatives' relationship with the GOP!

Any who still believe that this country has an opportunity to regain it's composure, (saddly I'm not one, can't shake the term 'Event Horizon' As I look at our future), should be happy about this! You have been shown that these two, Christie, and Jindal, lack a critical componant of effective leadership. They both have proven that they can analyze an existing problem and devise effective solutions. They have also both shown that they cannot 'think on their feet'! These men would, clearly, make exellent advisors, but should never again be given any Executive Authority!

Okay, here's the game plan on at least the amnesty issue, conservatives. Take the "zero sum" view of economics that Democrats espouse and ask hispanics why they want to share scarce jobs and resources with unlimited numbers of current and future illegal aliens? Ask Democrats in general why they want to do the same, when the practice conflicts with their world view of absolute limitations? You'll probably get the same dumb looks, evasiveness, and gaping jaws they give me, but at least you can slow down their reflexively open borders response.

It was unfortunate that a private meeting was bugged and things were taken out of context and was turned into a terrible damning lie. The dems not only lied but turned the tide of our national freedom. The evil and the war that is about to explode is blood on the hands of all those who voted to have the evil perpetuated. Conservitives generally are honest and don't hit below the belt and are not a good match at fighting back using the dems evil tactics. Conservitives, hold ground where you can you still have some clout. Just stop the whining and use the "brain and backbone you were given.

Mitt is right about that. O gave away free stuff and turned out his base as a result. Shame on the 3 million Republican voter that stayed home and helped give us 4 more years of this Marxist scumbag that will result in economic collapse with our dollar becoming worthless. Don't cry to me when the Obama-bots start chasing you around with Molotov cocktails.

Romney supporters sound like a bunch of stupid ignorant haters. I'm not on welfare, never have been and hope so never have too. But since you want to play the race card, you have more Caucassins on welfare, than Blacks and Latinos. Why don't you just accept the fact that Romney lost and that's just a fact. Just because you don't like the fact that Aromney lost, stop trying to use race as a winner.

  • kenhowes

This election was pretty close. But two stupid Senate candidates and one stupid remark by Romney were absolutely fatal. Without them, the race would have been too close to call. First Todd Akin came up with his "legitimate rape" line. Horrible way to put it. Still, he misspoke making a real point. There's no "legitimate rape"--but there is a hysterical reaction to forcible rape that tends to prevent conception. That reaction's the reason that central Europe was not filled with little Ivans along about 1946. Akin, and the Republican Party, might have survived that one, because it was pretty clearly misspeaking. But then Richard Mourdock said that rape was an act of God! That wasn't misspeaking. It was a nutty man asserting a nutty religious view. It revived the sagging Democratic narrative about a "war on women" and their accusation that we were all a bunch of religious nuts who wanted women barefoot and pregnant. It put Akin's old comment back in play. Only days before Mourdock said that, polls showed that Akin had largely recovered and had a chance. As soon as Mourdock said what he did, Akin dropped back to being down double digits.
That didn't just impact those senate races. It impacted absolutely every single Senate race in the country. Now people weren't looking at one foot-in-mouth fellow who had said something the wrong way; they were looking at a pattern of Republicans as men who took a very casual attitude toward rape and a callous view of its victims. Wherever a male Republican had a female opponent--in some very close races, that became a rallying point for the Democrat. It was almost surely the straw that broke the backs of the Berg and Thompson campaigns, candidates who had looked like they had a fair shot; in Berg's case, he was expected to win.
And it played a huge part in the presidential race. One of the Democratic accusations against Romney was that he quietly shared the attitude that appeared to be implicit in Akin's comment. A second candidate making an even worse comment gave credibility to their claim that the whole Republican Party was waging "war on women."
But Romney didn't help himself. There he was, at a dinner with a bunch of fat cats--the kind of people that Obama was claiming all along that Romney favored, and maybe he did. He says that 47% of the people pay nothing and receive benefits. What an incredibly stupid remark! The GOP had done back flips to discredit the attack ads that claimed Romney was a cold-hearted plutocrat--now there he is, and he might as well be saying, "Let them eat cake."
The GOP was also guilty of extremely ham-handed handling of the immigration issue. Even Hispanics who are against illegal (undocumented) immigration take the view nonetheless that every Anglo politician who's against illegal immigration takes that position because he secretly hates Hispanics, and is signaling that to other Anglos who hate Hispanics. Guess what? I was a local Republican chairman, and I know that there were a whole bunch of people who used other issues as a way of saying they hated Hispanics. Me, I always got plenty of Hispanic support; even after my political career was definitively over, one of the strongest Hispanic leaders urged me to run for mayor. "Mee'ter Kenny" would have been a conservative Republican winning the Hispanic wards and losing--badly--in all the white wards.
You can get Hispanic support, but there isn't a moment to waste. The party has to do an about-face on the subject and start looking at ways--while first securing the border--to integrate and assimilate the Hispanic population into the American mainstream. They're not culturally left-wing. Their preferred way out of poverty isn't through the government--it's through starting their own businesses. There is much Republicans have to say to them. Thousands of Hispanic parents are irate that their children are pushed into inferior "bilingual" programs when in fact they speak perfectly good English--Spanish is how you talk to Abuelita (Granny), not their own language. They tried to force the children of my secretary, a Puerto Rican woman who speaks better English than most non-Hispanic Americans, into the bilingual program just because they had a Spanish surname. These are things Republicans can work on.
One important key in the years to come is to disrupt the connection between the "community organizers", who are almost invariably left-wing and hand in glove with the Democrats, and the people, who often have conservative social and even economic views. It's only eight years ago that a Republican President friendly to Hispanics got over 40%, perhaps as 44%, of the Hispanic vote. If Mitt Romney had gotten that this year, he would be the President-elect now.

    • Melissa Frost

Are you saying a woman's body does have some way of not getting pregnant in rape?

      • kenhowes

When someone becomes hysterical, the body chemistry changes, and makes pregnancy much less likely. It's far from sure-fire in terms of avoiding pregnancy. Akin far overstated it, and made it sound like a near certainty. It isn't. As I said before, the historical precedent is when the Red Army swept through eastern Europe in 1944-45 with rape as actual public policy of the Soviet Union. There were far fewer pregnancies than might have been expected from that horrible event. Subsequent studies confirmed that the trauma of forcible rape (and I am including rape where there was the threat of force, not only actual force) is such as to impede fertilization.
Part of the problem in looking at this question is that there are numerous cases that constitute rape that are not forcible rape of the kind that Akin, infelicitously, called "legitimate" rape--but yes, they can legitimately be classified as rape. These other forms of rape may even be the majority of rape cases in the country now. There is statutory rape--having sex with an underage girl who, even if she was willing, is not of the age of consent. That's rape. There's date rape, where a man drugged a woman or got her drunk to the point that she didn't know (or barely knew) what was going on, and then took advantage. There's taking advantage of a mentally ill or otherwise disabled woman who can't form a valid consent. Those are all forms of rape, yet the hysterical condition that makes pregnancy less likely is not likely to be present, because either the underage girl just looks at it that she had sex, or the woman under a chemical or other incapacity doesn't really know what happened.
So the rape exception is statistically much more significant than Akin supposed. There was a study in the late 1970's that said that pregnancy after rape was extremely rare, and I am guessing that Akin was relying on that. But that study omitted these other forms of rape that I have just listed, and is therefore faulty because incomplete. (I'm over thirty years removed from the materials I read on this subject, so excuse my inability to provide more specific information. Depending on your age, you may well remember that you read certain things thirty years ago and not remember authors and titles.)

        • Melissa Frost

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. As a woman, this is a personal and sensitive subject. I'm also a Registered Nurse, 30 + years of practice. I understand the hypothisis of stress or hysteria altering body chemistry. It is possible it could lessen the ability for pregnancy occur or be sustained. It certainly isn't something that could be depended on of course.

This where I come from, and many GOP do not agree with me. I know life begins at conception. It is a scientific fact. Specialized cells are growing, multiplying and the brain and heart are devopoped very early in the pregnancy.

I am pro life to the depths of my heart and soul, abortion destroys and removes life.

I am also pro choice. Not everyone found the love of their life like I did in my teens. Not everyone has boyfriends or husbands that are kind and loving. Abuse comes in many forms. Life has been good to me but it hasn't been that way for everyone. Abortion should rare. Women's health care is complicated, unique and specialized. It needs to remain that way. We need Drs. that are experienced to give well rounded and safe healthcare.

I am pro life, but I am pro choice because life is not perfect. This is a woman's issue. No woman should have to explain rape. I don't not agree with the Republican party on this issue.

        • kenhowes

I can understand very well your concerns in this. My wife is a registered nurse who has been in practice for just over 40 years; I am a former lawyer, whose practice included hundreds of cases of the care and protection of abused and neglected children and numerous other family law situations. It also included a couple of cases where rape was involved. I am also a recent seminary graduate about to take my first call as a pastor (Lutheran), so I see your feelings both ways on it.
I don't think you can say that you agree or disagree with the Republican Party on this issue. Mr. Akin misspoke; Mr. Mourdock showed an absolutely dreadful view of the matter. There are pro-choice Republicans, and there are pro-life Republicans. The Democratic attack ads mischaracterized the Republican platform this year, which spoke only in terms of the unborn child as a person. It did NOT, contrary to Mr. Axelrod's attacks, call for the banning of all abortions in all circumstances. That depends on inferences that Mr. Axelrod has chosen to draw but that do not necessarily follow from the platform. Maybe that is Mr. Mourdock's position; I don't intend to speak for him, and he does not speak for me, at several different levels. I believe Mr. Akin meant well but had incomplete information and on top of that chose his words badly.
It's not strictly a women's issue. Any father who cares two cents about a child he has begotten, and any father, brother or husband whose daughter, sister or wife has been violated feels the different aspects of this matter deeply. One kind of character for whom I have little sympathy is the rake who impregnates a girl, hands her a couple of hundred dollars, and says, "Go have it fixed; have a nice life." No--it's not his issue, indeed, he ought to be paying a great deal more for what he has done to both the woman and the child than the few hundred dollars to get an abortion. But this impacts so many people, men and women; above all, it impacts the unborn children who are killed and have no one to speak for them in an abortion-on-demand society.

        • Melissa Frost

Liberals are very successful at twisting the truth. I don't know if they actually believe themselves or if this is just how they function. Almost hard to believe how bad it gets. I would much rather be on the side of living on truth and facts!
I realize that most men care about a pregnancy and unborn child. I know there are those who don't care, clueless about the truth of the matter and just plain misguided. Try to keep comments short but some subjects are just more complex.
Best wishes to you and your wife.

I guess Jindal is going to be the New Breed of GOP where you finger-point when you don't win. Romney's message was right. We've just reached the tipping point of reasonable people who understand it.

  • Melissa Frost

We have to move beyond this. We are in the stages of grief. 1) denial, shock. 2) ANGER. There are 5 stages, we have 3 more to go through. We are in stage 2. The timeing is typical and we are where we need to be.

Something has to give with the GOP or we will be history. This isn't easy. I'm still having sleepless nights. Our country is at stake, we are living a nightmare!!!! We better learn from this. My Dad taught me you want to be right, but you don't want to be DEAD right!!!! Example, it my turn in the intersection, not his. Vs, it's my turn and I'm going, crash I'm dead...I was right, it was my turn and now I'm DEAD right.

Let's take the "schooling" from Jindal. He may have a point. We can't stick to our same old strict self righteous habits or we will all be dead right.

I still consider myself conservative, but not everyone has had good lives. Not everyone has the ability to overcome what they we handed. We are still standing but BARELY.

I'm a white female married to my high sweetheart. I'm telling you we've been PUNKED, and SPANKED. Where was the voter turn out this last election?? We better shape up, step into the here and now and win some elections.

I hope that Jindal and Rubio both rein in their ambitions for the Presidency (assuming we have more elections) because as Republicans they will be vetted and both are ineligible. • rchguns

Unfortunately the comments about the 47% not paying income taxes is the fact there's no way around it. At least that percentage of people do not pay any federal tax. That is part of the reason that our tax procedures and laws need to be changed.

We hear a lot about changing the tax codes but no one ever does anything about it. We're led to believe that until an improved tax system will make everything all right. Anything coming out of Congress will never be all right because they're all lawyers to start with practically. And the day that lawyers write something that is simple enough for the average person to read will be the day that our world comes to an end. That old line from the movie is unfortunately correct" you can't handle the truth" that's what America has become.

Obama( old diaper head) bought the last election there is absolutely no question that. The other part of this last election that I find very disturbing is that in many polling districts the figures come back that Obama got over 100% of the vote. How do you get more votes than there are registered voters? That's the question that needs to be answered. In Obama we have the start of a new political machine that is reminiscent of the political machine that is still running in Chicago and for many years ran the New York City that if you don't like what we do you have two choices leave or die. Nothing is to illegal to do as long as you don't get caught. That sums up Obama's philosophy.

I wish all of you Gov Jindal bashers would come live in the Great State of Louisiana for a while and just see what great things this man has done. Granted he's no Huey P. For one he stood up to Odumbo during the Oil Spill and told him PDQ that the Fed Govt owed the People of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast Region safer conditions to live and work in. The work being the shipping and seafood industries. How is it that you can sit back and judge somebody who wants nothing but good for the people of his state? Give me a damned break. I don't see how you people can't understand basic facts.....women do not get or want free abortions....or free contraceptives. 95% of the people who voted for Obama do not want or get free abortions or birth control....they want the ability to get both. Insurance which is private pays for abortions and birth control.....if you are lucky enough to have such. A majority of the 62M who voted for Obama do not get any free stuff. They actually pay income taxes. Some of the people in the infamous 47% are veterans, students, women, old people who voted for Romney. Free stuff was not the reason....just a silly sound bite that you old white men love. Keep it up and lose again. You richly deserve that. And you will lose in 2016. I do not get free stuff. I voted for Obama and will work dilgently to defeat your next Karl Rove approved candidate.

  • ForrestByers

Conservatives, Republicans, Libertarians, and large sections of people, who call themselves independents should be able to all agree, that the Democratic Party is a Marxist Socialist political party, which uses Keynesianism, with it's diminishment of all things, market oriented, to be replaced by the attempted manipulation and compulsion of the State, of course, financed by the (another creation of their imagination.) Federal Reserve with its marvelous, endless source of financial pump priming (now, let us all say it together) the printing press, backed up and made secure (just like the little nymphs and gnomes, with their fairy dust) by that everlasting storehouse of value, known as "thin air".

With these thin air, " loans" (another fine example of fracturing the language, because there is no real serious consideration to "repay" the future, because " true reality." Is to the amoral left, only " here and now". If, runaway inflation occurs, because of the thin air nature of the loans, along with the political reluctance to ever stand for the responsibility of repaying such loans, when simple evaluation of currency and a "future" lowering of the standard of living, is always, much more satisfying to the current political appetites of the powers that be. . In other words, we (the current political class) will take care of ourselves and our most immediate needs and those people in the future (but if there is one) can damn well take care of themselves.

Gov., Jindal, who I understand to be a fine conservative and an ambitious one, at that, has no sooner returned from the morning and the dirge of the last Republican campaign, then wants to put a spike through Mitt Romney's heart (Not only for the 47% comment, but Romney's suggestion that Obama, through gifting the various parts of the electorate, wound up reinforcing that electorates desire for a sugar daddy) for a statement, which was perfectly obvious. Gov. Jindal knows better than this, but cannot help himself from sticking up the political wet finger to see which way the wind blows, in the hopes of separating his brand from the last losing candidate of his party. Who knows? If this political lead balloon flies, he might even find some contributors, to build up that political war chest. In politics, it is never too soon to begin carping , much less backstabbing…

  • SickoftheBS

The fact that 47% may indeed be on the taxpayer's payroll in various way, did not mean that some of that 47% were not truly qualified to receive what they deserved, and indeed paid for in the past.
He should have mentioned the many millions of illegal alien criminals with their hands out and huge numbers of blacks who have devoured hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars in many other ways. He was NOT, after all, going to get those votes.

Mitt if you read this I thank you for trying. the deck was stacked, but dont despair we beat the Japs and the Nazis will overcome these low life scum bags, a bunch of draft dodging perverted illegal lazy lower then dog shi* transvestite Dyke slackers , and I cleaned that up !
    I despise these leeches

Could not have said it better myself. Jindal is Wrong to attack Romney on this point. obama DID bribe moochers for votes and brags about it. So shut up Bobby, until you have something positive to say about your party. Do you think a liberal would stab one of their own in the back? When are you conservatives ever learn? Too bad you don't go after the liberals the same way.

  • TxGCB

I like Jindal but in this case he is wrong, wrong, wrong. Romney was absolutely right and it is too bad he did not have the guts to utter those words before the election.

  • Johnny Geetar

And THIS is the major impetus behind the secession movement. Over 50% of our polulation now embrace socialism. They feel absolutely NO pang of guilt for living off the backs of others. Further, now that they know they can vote themselves largesse every cycle, they will CONTINUE to vote as a block. We have been warned for years NOT to let this threshold of 50% of our citizens taking handouts to take root. It now has, and the party is over. There IS no way back from that. They will continue to take until the resources run out. The burden will bankrupt the producer also in the process. (You & me)

Pandora's box has been opened. The winning formula is out of the bag, folks. In 2016, whoever gets the democratic nomination will only have to reaffirm their commitment to continue wealth distribution, and the presidency is assured. The winner will be decided by who offers the most free stuff. It's over. Those that disagree with secession look backward to the America that was..... they view it through the vapor of nostalgia.

The secession movement is not about divorcing ourselves from the federal government, or even Barack Obama himself; It is about divorcing ourselves from unworthy countrymen; brethren that no longer deserve to be called brother. We now share NOTHING in common with these parasites save geography. We are ALREADY 2 countries occupying the same geographical space. We no longer want to live with them, THEY no longer want to live with us.
And the really bad news? The 2 ideologies, the jealous, envious Socialist, and the self-sufficient Constitutionalist Conservative are not even REMOTELY compatible. Smart money on both sides say, "Walk away from this." Divide America. The left will be free to conduct social experiments and implement Marxism to their heart's content free from interference from the conservative. WE in turn, will be free to re-implement our founding document and build a society that reflects OUR values and beliefs. Simple, yes. Easy, no.
The one big wrench in the works is this. Conservatives can easily survive without the baggage of the liberal. The reverse is not true. Liberalism could NOT survive without US. Socialism requires producers to tax and produce, without which, the socialist state would quickly bankrupt. For this reason, the socialist Washington will NEVER let us go peacefully.
Is there a model in the middle? Yup. China!
Stop looking to Europe for our future. It is crumbling even faster than WE are. The new model being implemented is the Chinese social model. Their society is communistic, but their ECONOMY is CAPITALIST! THIS is where Barack and friends are taking us.The state inserts a heavy hand in ALL businesses, but stops just short of destroying them. But socially, they are as pinko red as can be, complete with heavy state oversight of it's people.
Well, we don't want THIS model, either. We have but one option left if we wish to preserve our way of life. Secession. Note; this option should NOT be delayed to long, as our ability to make this a reality comes with a shelf life. The biggest enemy to sescession is the clock on the wall.

In time, we will all wish Romney had been elected. Already business's are laying people off or cutting their hours because of Obama care. Some are closing. This is just the beginning folks!

  • caninelegion

    Jindal is a RINO.

  • tncdel

I am extremely disappointed by the GOP's so-called leadership offerings. Jindal shows himself less-than-presidential. Christie is a RINO fraud who, among other things, appointed a Muslim with ties to Hamas who supports Sharia law as a judge. Rubio is a traitor. See:http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/did-you-know-that-marco-rubio-gutted-31-illegal-immigration-fighting-bills-in-the-florida-legislatur/question-2608369/

And Boehner is a RINO sell-out who has allowed a dog-eatin' Kenyan with a fake birth certificate to defiantly do whatever he wants. Issa has proven he was only putting on a show fakin' it.

Romney was too lily-livered to use the things he had to go after Obama. I was greatly disappointed that Allen West "played it safe," so he thought, by running for congressman again instead of going for the gusto running for president. Rand Paul also would have been good. Plus Tom McClintock. Listen to McClintock here:

  • liberalkooks

Gov. Jindal, I have a lot of respect and admiration for you but right now you need to just SHUT THE H3!! UP!!!!!!

  • jerry1944

romney for sure wasnt a conservative and Jindal is

  • Riverdweller

Jindal is not eligible to be POTUS or V.P.

He is not a natural born citizen. So IMO he should shut up about any QUALIFIED candidates.

I live in Chicago the amount of free stuff, (well it is not free taxpayers are paying the bill) given to Democrat Political activist and voters is insane. They magically get subsidized apartments,(when others cannot get in) food, clothing really anything they need. They do not have to be consumers at all whatsoever. Everything is provided for them......they will try to persaude you to this way of life using incredibly insane tactics.........if you live here and see this and complain....you will start getting your property illegaly taken, you will get harrassed, followed or my all time favorite even physically assaulted. And NO ONE WILL help you....except maybe some Republicans who are NOT naive that this is going on. Mr. Romney was speaking the absolute truth about gifts and basically bribes because that is what they are. And the people in Chicago getting these insane favors at your expense (the taxpayer) DO NOT want anyone coming along and messing up their favor system. THIS IS GOING ON!!!! And someone needs to have the guts to shut it down!!!!

  • 50StarPatriot

Let's not forget Romney "gifts" to the rich. They include a drop from Obama's proposed rise to 39.6% down to 28%. They include a drop in their capital gains taxes and dropping the inheritance tax on inherited money over $10 million for couples down to zero. No wonder he had so much millionaire support.
Each candidate offered goodies to their own set of voters. Apparently there were fewer wealthy voters.

  • ladyhuckleberry

As a matter of fact I've listened to my patients who were Blacks and other races, those that I grew up with that were Blacks, and they all agreed that I was a minority way back when. So you see I'm neither a racist not am I one who hates. I've never do I ever intend on playing the race cared. Some of the best friends I've got are Blacks and my younger sister adopted a child who's Black. So please judge me not less you be judged.

  • ladyhuckleberry

I forgot to mention, I wish Alan West or Colin Powell would've run for President. Either one would've gotten my vote.

  • Rhonda Anderson

I do not believe Romney lost. I think obama was too sure of the election before it even happened.

  • threebarrs

I too, was unimpressed by Jindal's remarks at the Governor's conference. I agree that the Republican party needs a complete facelift, but I lost a lot of respect for Jindal as he went around mouthing off about the things Romney did wrong.
