Unions Flex Power on Black Friday, Consumers Ignore Them

Perhaps it's cruel of me to laugh at the unions who thought they would strong-arm Walmart and other retailers this holiday season, but any time the bullies get their hats handed to them, it's time for a mini-celebration.

As of late afternoon on Black Friday, Walmart was reporting record sales despite organized protests outside many of its stores.

It's just hard to have sympathy for people who think they're entitled to more money and benefits in an economy where millions would be content just to have a steady job.

Plus there's the stupidity factor of joining a union in the first place. On a personal income level, most people will do better in the long run without belonging to a union. A lot of that has to do with union dues cancelling out any pay increases.

But not all was well with Black Friday. While the annual retail event is generally a boon to retailers, in recent years it has also become an outlet for some of the most crass, boorish and outrageous consumer behavior.

A sampling of headlines from Drudge is just the tip of the iceberg:

  • Man Punched in Face Pulls Gun On Line-Cutting Shopper...
  • Shots fired outside WALMART...
  • Shoppers smash through door at URBAN OUTFITTERS...
  • Customers run over in parking lot...

A recent Internet video of man on the street interviews found many respondents who view Thanksgiving as a celebration of racism and the destruction of indigenous cultures. Not a one of the respondents made any mention of God or giving thanks.

That seems to be a common and growing attitude these days. President Obama's Thanksgiving declaration, as it has for many years, included no mention of God.

As God is removed more and more from our public life, incidents such as Black Friday violence are the price we pay.

    Well said and spot on.
I believe the beginning of the end came when we the people remained silent while one woman and nine, unelected, black robed men threw G_d from my classroom.

    • Buck Futter

Who is G_d? Is that GeorDi, from Star Trek, the Next Generation? You know, the black guy, with the visor? If so, I can totally understand where you're coming from.

Besides that, the Court removed God from the procreation decision when okaying the birth control pill, now also an abortifacient. Pushed God aside when when approving infanticide at any time during pregnancy through abortion. Now godless Obama is having his communist attorney general attempt the overturning of the Federal DOMA (Definition of Marriage Act) law by challenging it in court. Apparently they don't like God's definition of marriage.

I thought they took the oath of office to defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States. Oh! I forget, they don't believe in God.

      • Mike Tanco

Allah is who he prays to not our God who gaves the foundation of our Constitution. Oath of office, that's a laugh. He has violated his oath and Congress hasn't got the guts to impeach him. The voters that put this SOB in office four more years are idiots. The dumb, uneducated or blind have caused us untold trouble. The takers just keep taking and it's time for the taxpayers to say. "enough is enough". Don't tread on me. There are some states that have the right idea, secede. Being from Texas, I'm ready.

        • Phillip_in_TX

I sent letters to my State Senator, State Representative, and Gov. Perry. My only question was "When is Texas going to secede from the the United States?" I have not received any replies yet.

I called before I sent the letters. At Wendy Davis' office, the person I talked to did not know how to answer. At my Representative's and Gov. Perry's Offices, I left messages.

        • Bill

your wasting your time and theirs. It is Illegal to secede

Black Friday is the day that Americans greedily trample other Americans to help support the offshoring of American jobs and the destruction of this country by purchasing overpriced slave labor manufactured plastic junk that they don't need with money they don't have mere hours after stuffing their fat faces with food in celebration of being thankful for what they already have. Definition : "Irony."

        • Krazeehors

          How I spent "black Friday."
          8 a.m. -- woke up, slam-dunked the alarm clock a few times;
          8:30 a.m. -- got up, went to church to help build the set for our Christmas concert;
          10 a.m. -- painting sets at church
          11:30 a.m. -- off to the gym
          12:30 p.m. -- back to work
          4:00 p.m. -- finally made it home.
          11:00 p.m. -- after housework, it's off to bed.
How I spent the Saturday afterThanksgiving:
8 a.m. -- woke up, got up, went to church to paint sets
9:00 a.m. -- made it to the gym
          10 a.m. -- training after 30 minutes of stretching and warm-up
(so tired I could barely stay awake for training session)
11 a.m. -- back to church, more painting
2 p.m. -- finally made it home, sat down in my chair "for a few minutes" and slept for 4 hours.
6 p.m. -- fixed myself some dinner, went back to sleep for 13 hours
woke up Sunday morning just in time to head off to church, rehearsal, and home.
So, you see. There are lots of things one can do without thinking of shopping. There is nothing so humbling at Thanksgiving than the realization that your family is 1200 miles away, your son is God knows where, and even so, you are loved by your church family.
I pray for those who don't have the blessings of family, related or not, who are without a job, without food, and without a home. I realize I am blessed, and I do what I can to help those less fortunate.
Wouldn't it be great if we could ALL do that?
I have many, many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, and each and every day. I hope you all have the same.

racing their new foreign cars to purchase overpriced slave labor plastic...lol...EVEN WORSE! because ever since the wheel sterted turning the US economy has ran on the building.......and buying of American cars

      • kim

You do understand that us conservative christian like minded persons responding in disgust to King O's never ending enslavement of America's people are committing other sins that are listed in the bible as well. Yes homosexual behavior is mentioned so is fornication and adultery and adultery is defined as committing adultery in your heart, so you don't even have to physically commit the act. Yet we pick certain things that we think God hates more like infanticide thru abortion or condoning homosexuality. I think a sin is a sin and if it is ok for you to have sex before you got married or fantasize about someone you are not married to you shouldn't be so quick to say what you know God would want. I think abortion is wrong and it was a huge abuse of judicial power which had an agenda and nothing to do with the constitution. I think homosexuality is wrong and on one hand they say "its not my fault I was born this way" but then they say "its not a disease, im normal" Well if your normal and Im not gay do you hate me? Am I the new protected class? So I say lets quit deciding who we are entitled to cast stones at and focus on our own lives. YOU don't want the government indoctrinating your children in homosexuality ... then home-school them, thats the choice I made for my children. As for DOMA, it wasn't meant for civilian society it was meant for DADT. I understand why they did it, I agree with it. Now as for DOMA, sitting president Clinton didn't have anymore of a place defining marriage than King O had in declaring that he supports gay marriage. We now have people posting pictures on Facebook with their dog holding a sign that says my dog supports gay marriage. Really? Does he really? Wow!! Declaring social views by a sitting president is irresponsible and imposes divisive attitudes and very un-presidential! In my opinion lets quit calling it marriage for legal purposes. Call it a union, let 2 people join in a union, define what a person is and leave the churches alone. Those who are wanting to celebrate their union with God with their church and family & friends, so be it and those who are atheist leave God alone! If you don't believe God exists, fine, move on!

I knew there was a reason I never use Facebook. There's also a reason why I don't partake in the Black Friday madness -- and when are they going to make retailers change the name because "black" is racist?
          Good grief.

  • jsmithcsa

I didn't see any strikers on Black Friday, while I was driving my family's women around to shop. As for rude behavior, I saw nothing out of the ordinary. Despite long lines and difficulty in finding parking, folks here in the Old Dominion tended to maintain their sense of humor and respect for themselves and others.

You got that right. Virginia is a Right-To-Work state and we don't put up with the union damnfoolery other states do. I must disagree with the statement, It's just hard to have sympathy with people who think they are entitled to more money and benefits in an economy where millions would be content to have a steady job. This sounds like something the left would say. As a conservative, I believe that people should get paid a fair wage and I don't care what others are getting paid or what hours they work. I care about the pay I make and the hours I work. Walmart is notorious for cheating its workers and have been taken to court on more then one occasion. As for the union leaders, they are corrupt, don't care about the American worker or they would be against amnesty for illegals not funding it, and all those businesses that left this country and moved overseas, where are the protests from the unions?

    • ginger

If not for their jobs at Walmart or anywhere not to their liking...where would they work?..obviously their skills warrent only what they are being paid ...they accepted the job at the stated wage and now want more.....so EARN it!! Don't "feel" appreciated?? go elsewhere...and perhaps upgrade what you can do so someone will pay you more. I am in my mid seventies and work retail and was told at the outset that I would have crazy hours and work hard..I started at $7.00 hr and now make $17 hr. I could have moaned and groaned but I worked..something some folks these days don't know how to do.

      • justcrosstheborder

Ginger, I am not your age, however I was working where I could make $1,000 and more a week and the owner will not provide the work. So I just left and decided to file for my Social Insecurity compensation. Very nicely, told them to go find another slave. I did not go out and drink with them or put up with their crap. In a meeting I had to raised my voice in order to finish my comments. They did not like the challenge. Two days in a row was told that I had to take a test with a couple hours to spare. Pay$400.00 for the testing out of pocket. They were hoping I would flunk. They try everything. I worked for a subcontractor for DIRECTV. Now I'm just waiting for the checks to start from SS. If I was going by the hour, the base would be @ $25 to $30 an hr. Rather have peace of mind than money.

        • ginger

Wish I could do that but $600.00 month social security won't pay my living.

      • Pat A

Good for you Ginger. It's too bad so many don't correlate hard work with better pay. The mentality of some seems to be better pay for hardly working.

        • ginger

people today want to be paid for breathing...and most of them cannot walk and talk at the same time.

      • Tasha22

You are right---many of the complainers who had an opportunity to get an education and skills, but chose to sit in class and bs the entire time, never read, never do homework.

        • ginger

but it is always someone or something's fault...the teachers, the school, the homelife, the "culture". the this that and the other. they don't take any responsibility for themselves at all.

    • patsy1715

You knew what you were getting paid when you took the job. No one forced you. It's the law of supple and demand. So many jobs for so many people. When I first went to work, it was .75 an hour. But then I wasn't paying on a smartphone, 42 in Tv. A closet full of designer cloth. In other words I lived within my means. Yes and no food stamps, free medical, and all the rest.

      • LARA

      • Buck Futter

When I first took my job, at Koch Industries, I earned 92 cents per hour. Fortunately, this was so little that I could still qualify for EBT. But after a few months, they outsourced my job to China, where 11-year olds earn only 12 cents per hour. How does this apply to the law of "supple" and demand? I guess that might be pretty obvious, since "supple" means, basically, compliant or servile.

        • John Cherish

well you are doing a far sight better than the 11 year old 80 cents an hour better so what are you complaining about, that an 11 year old can do your job better than you for less money

        • Ann Rand

        • Frank Castle

        • Edward53

Hey, Buckie, I heard that your first job was under Obama's desk. Obama said that you were pretty "supple".

        • fiddler

Tell you what, you tell your "friends" in the political arena to stop regulating the heck out of their business and maybe the jobs will stay. Barak Obama can't understand business because he has never engaged in it. He knows how to armchair quarterback, but the only money he knows about managing is OTHER PEOPLE's money which he feels he is entitled to. It's very easy to talk about exporting jobs, quite another to have to deal with regulations, insurances, legal fees, etc. They can't confiscate revenue from taxpayers, NO, they have to earn it by selling goods to customer while COMPETING for the business.

        • Tasha22

When was that? 1920? Minimum wage has been more than that for well over 50 years.

    • TheBigGeezer

lindy; you have no clue about the realities... Walmart is a wonderful example of giving jobs to individuals who have virtually no job skills or employable training ... but they give these folks a chance... invest in extensive training programs to help them be employable. Unions are thugs that offer no value in today's marketplace. We have federal, state and local laws in place to protect our workers. Unions are now simply a money laundering scheme for the liberal democrats. We need to destroy the unions... as simple as that.

      • Patroit

Hey Big Geezer, I would give you 5 stars if I could. Wake up people it is OUR America - not the elected officials. They owe us.

        • TheBigGeezer

Joan... your comment is simply not true.

WHAT i SEE FROM MOST EMPLOYEES IS THEY ARE GETTING PAID WHAT THEY ARE WORTH;; i AM SELF EMPLOYED AND A SKILLED CRAFTSMAN;; not charging what I used to either;; but I got work......and I work a heck of a lot harder than an employee at Wal Mart....not to mention start up costs for $10,000.00 worth of equipment.....socialists want equal pay for less work.....

    • Frank Castle

Taken to court.. by WHOM?? Cheating?? CITES PLEASE?? "Blanket Accusations, are the weapons of a LIBERAL.... how about backing UP those charges??

    • Ruggedlark

Starting pay over Federal and minimum wages. 401k, Medical, Insurance, and profit sharing. Oh. yeah. Some of those bennies come after being with the company a year, but you can purchase stock, and the company will contribute 15%-

I forgot to mention the bonuses. Yeah. When the store does well, and is managed right, the associates bonus-not just management.

So. Just when did you work for Wal-Mart to have this hugely bad thought of the company?

  • oldtexgal

A victory for consumers and WalMart employees, as well. Don't dance on the graves of powerful unions, yet. Remember Obamacare is looming. SIEU will be unionizing hospital and healthcare workers, and probably doctors, as well, since they will become government employees. Not only will prices skyrocket, but incompetence will be "institutionalized". No one will be held responsible.. excellence will not be rewarded, poor performance will not be punished, and mediocrity will be the norm. We'll be footing the bill.

    • DixieAngel_76

That I believe. As a condition of employment in the county agency that I work for I must belong to the SEIU. No choice is given in the matter, you simply shut up, sign up, and pay up, or you don't work. In return for our money, taken every month, we get..da da dum da da dum....... NADA! That's right we don't get a single benefit. No health insurance, no retirement, nothing! We are supposed to believe that the union is looking out for our interests, but we haven't had a raise the whole time I've been doing this, and it's been four years now. If I had any choice in the matter I certainly would tell that union to stuff it, but I'm not holding my breath. The relationship between the unions and the government at all levels is definitely incestuous.

I find it ironic that a group of people comprising something 8% of our total workforce can have such power. But then, I also find it ironic that a very small group of people with alternative lifestyles are generating so much havoc.
I find it unbelievably sad that 2 million of our disabled veterans (less than .005% of our total population) are now having their disability status challenged in the interest of saving a few dollars. And, I am sad. (and angry)

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of
Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to
implore his protection and favor - and whereas both Houses of Congress have by
their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United
States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging
with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by
affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for
    their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November
next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great
and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that
is, or that will be - That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our
sincere and humble thanks - for his kind care and protection of the People of
this Country previous to their becoming a Nation - for the signal and manifold
mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced
in the course and conclusion of the late war - for the great degree of
tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed - for the peaceable
and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of
government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now
lately instituted - for the civil and religious liberty with which we are
blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and
in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to
    confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and
supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon
our national and other transgressions - to enable us all, whether in public or
private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and
punctually - to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by
constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly
and faithfully executed and obeyed - to protect and guide all Sovereigns and
Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with
good government, peace, and concord - To promote the knowledge and practice of
true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us - and
generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he
    alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the
    year of our Lord 1789.

  • Buck Futter

I'll be damned if some people in the United States are angry because they don't earn enough money to buy healthcare for their kids try to make me feel guilty for getting a really good deal on a 60 inch flatscreen made in China, from a company that outsourced the labor from American workers to 11-year olds Chinese kids who work 120 hours a week for 25 cents an hour.

    • Pat A

Same old hysterical talking points from the left. Would you care to show some actual proof of what you stated about Chinese kids? I don't think you'll be able to find it. The TV you mentioned also provides jobs in the U.S. no matter where it was manufactured. As for being angry because they can't afford healthcare for their kids, please provide proof of any child being turned away from a U.S. medical facility who needed care. You are just full of it.

    • John Cherish

wow that 11 year old you were complaining about in the earlier post got a 14 cent an hour raise really I am beginning to doubt your numbers are you just making this up as you go... as for 120 hours a week did you make up that number also... please present your source I would like to know which companies are doing that ... name the company that is ...if you can't then I am certain you are just blowing smoke

I love Black Friday! Yes I do stand in a lot of lines, but everyone is so friendly and curtious. We all just talk and visit. It is such a different atmosphere than any other shopping day.
As far as the protesters go, from what I understand most of them didn't work at Walmart. It makes me happy to see the general public just ignore them. It makes me very angry to see these people DEMAND more pay, better health care with out contributing to it and many more better benefits. And the only real people getting rich from unions are the ones at the top! I think it won't take more of their bull crap before they realize we really don't give a hoot about them or their demands! And when they pick on a business we will all step in and support that business!

Sorry, Tad your message is NOT CLEAR. The "consumers" include the "TAKERS" so of course there will be violence- on Black Friday or ANY OTHER DAY in a mall. UNIONS trying to get shoppers to stop shopping DOES show the STUPIDITY of the Union organizers. As in anything where people need to stand up- - if Union Members would decide that they want to leave the Union- they would expose the vile leadership who would undoubtedly resort to violence to keep them in line.

    • Patroit

And that is WHY - the Union wants card check to see how everyone votes so they can bully them in their lives in their homes and in their cars. Unions are "BULLIES" and "THUGS". That is what all the people with common sense in America need to fight against. 3 days after the election they unionized the TSA agents - YEA right, people with jobs they are not qualified to do. That might be because of the other forced on us words: "AFFIRMATION ACTION". Now these people walk around like they OWN us. Remember they work for the government and the government works or is suppose to work for the people. "Stand for something people"

  • Marte

I just told my son that it was sickening when people behaved like animals. Then I stopped to think. Most 4-legged species don't behave nearly as bad as humans.

Google the history of Thanksgiving. It has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with thanking God for our blessings - and praying for more blessings.

Like you, I have no sympathy for the union members who are striking and carrying on. They're just screaming "I want more and I don't care about anyone but me, me, me." They should be grateful they have jobs when so many do not. When and if they go back to work, I hope their supervisors find quick reasons to fire them.

They knew the hours and they knew the pay when they took the job. Therefore, they have NO grounds for complaint.

At my house, Thanksgiving is every day.

from what I understand, these protesters were bused in, not really or not all, were Wal-mart employees. just a bunch of losers bused in, like when our Gov. was being "recalled"....they bused in union loons from Michigan to "vote" against him. they are thugs, plain and simple !!!

      • voterid

Here in NC we love your Governor...he is an Honorable man and wish him well. We just got a new Republican Governor that will start in Jan...can't wait to get him in office to do some executive orders to reverse the damage the last governor we had in office has done. She, Perdue, vetoed any voter id law presented, and was willing to open up health care exchanges for obamacare at the taxpayers expense...now those decisions can be overridden...thank God for some good things with the past election.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1815457097 Rhonda Renee Sessions

that is very likely, babygirl... I used to work for WalMart, and they have a standing, written policy... no union representation allowed to solicit their employees. you are informed that at your hiring, and then you go through orientation, where you're required to watch a video on the subject of union solicitation and canvassing. If you're seen (and video-taped, for evidence purposes) speaking to a union representative who wants to try and get you to join a union while working at WalMart, it's grounds for termination, and the union rep will be arrested for trespassing. You agree to it, by signing a statement and agreement that you will turn in all union representatives, or you don't have a job with WalMart.

        • snowmaggedoned

I used to work for Tandy Wire and Cable when that business was solvent in Ft. Worth, TX back in the 1970's. They also had a stance against allowing a union rep into the business. If we even mentioned the word "union" we would be fired. I was perfectly fine with that. I worked for one month for Braniff Airlines in 1977 and after one month on the job, I was told that if I wanted to keep the job, I would have to join the Teamsters. Mind you this was for an hourly wage of $2.30 an hour. I asked how much raise I would receive to pay for the union dues and I was told.....not one red penny. The dues were 10% of my hourly wage.......and here I was barely making any money at all and they wanted me to pay "tithe" to them and for what???? Unions are nothing but legalized extortion.

I almost lost my cool when a shopper standing at the cashier at Walgreens said to her everyone should be off on Thanksgiving...so no gas stations, convenience stores for the beer, no police, firefighters, hosptials...oh no those aren't the ones we're protesting against just specific stores...hmmm

    • John Cherish

It used to be everyone was ... thanksgiving was spent at home with the family ... a good meal and a day to rest..everything was closed even the convenience stores so if you didn't plan ahead oh well ... you did without and there was no need for the police the streets were deserted you know there were few if any problems on thanksgiving years back everyone was at home giving thanks to God

      • medic2003

Well I have to say as a Paramedic I work alot of Holidays. You have to staff things like that. Cops work too. This year I got thanksgiving off, but as my schedule falls on these days Ill wind up working Christmas eve, Christmas day, new years eve an new years day. Those are 24 hour shifts too. I go to work and Im gonan be there 48 hours solid. I dont wanna hear the people griping about having to put in 8 hours away from their family. Check out the average pay for an EMS worker....it doesn pay much better than Walmart does and that is sad.

I dont like it but thats how it goes. I havent looked at next year. If my days remain the same on when i work then Ill get nailed again. Its part of it and we all accept that we have to work on those days.

        • John Cherish

I do agree paramedics are a special breed of person, they work awful hours and spend a lot of time at the dispatch center or in some cases the fire hall during those long shifts sleeping when they can but just there on standby close at hand should the need arise I know that life my uncle was one he was a well respected man over 300 firemen showed up at his funeral (he died of cancer) so yes God bless you in this, I hope you will be as well respected to when your time comes as well

        • medic2003

just for the record i had no beef with your comment. It was the people throwing a fit about working on thanksgiving at walmart. They would throw a fit if i WASNT working on holidays and they needed me or anyone else in public safety.

      • Ruggedlark

        I remember those days.

I usually don't go shop. I don't like the crowds, but been to many Black Friday store openings-its changed now. Because the stores are open 24 hours. Which is good. People used to get hurt, store assets always got damaged (and cost money to repair)...People are crazy. They find the blouse on sale, get theirs in their shopping basket and knock 5 on the floor. Stepped on, run over, damaged. Thanksgiving has just become the shining symbol of all that is wrong in America.

        • Tasha22

Thanksgiving is never the problem, those of us who still love and respect God and our founding principles know what it is for. It's the welfare entitlement generation (and that includes some who have jobs but still think everyone else should pay for their kids, health care, etc. etc) that has turned what was a courtesy convenience to customers into a reflection of who they are, selfish, greedy, ravening godless beasts who want their stuff and don't give a damn about anyone else.

        • Ruggedlark

Well. Basically you agree with me, and I with you.

Godbless you and your family and endeavors.

When clerks complain, I usually try to smile (not my strong point) and say, "Well. It's nice having a job, isn't it? Money to pay the bills and put food on the table? Especially in THIS horrendous economy".

Yep. Usually get an eye opening "Yeah, I am glad I have a job". Never had someone come back and NOT be thankful.

      • Tasha22

Add that the demoncraps created the bad economy by excessive grabbing, bribing and wasting.

  • Mys77

I find it ironic that for the entire year, the media, the government, the schools, and Hollywood blast and degrade Christianity.... but come Christmas time....they rely on and promote it as if it means something to them. Like a typical liberal, only need Christ, when it benefits their personal desires, pocket book, and twisted agenda. I for one, and my immediate family no longer buy into the retail stealing from Christ.... It is His birthday....and only He deserves gifts of devotion, praise, and love. HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!!! Please remember this when Hollywood and the media trashes Chrsitianity and in the same breath feel they have a right to profit from it.

    • Frank Castle

The GOD of Liberals is JANUS.... the TWO FACED god!!

    • snowmaggedoned

      Excellent post!! Very well stated!!

    • fiddler

Recently I thought about the incident in Christ's life when he cleared the temple with "a scourge of 3 cords". He said, "My Father's house is a house of prayer, but you have made it a robbers den". I think the same can be said of Christmas. It has been co-opted by people not wanting to offend, but wanting to have their careers enhanced. This came home to me when my daughter was a kid in elememtary school and they were going "caroling". They were all briefed in the gymn before parents and teachers took them around about WHICH songs to sing. After awhile, some kids kept insisting on singing "Silent Night", to which an agitated teacher finally barked "OH Go Ahead!" in disgust. I Still have memories as a child in singing class opening a school song book and singing "Father in Heaven we thank Thee". One generation is all it took.
Perhaps it's time Christians "got offended" over the co-opting of Christmas and Resurrection Day in the name of profit.

      • Tasha22

It's not the profit that's the problem, an increase from your efforts is rightful and godly. The problem is the stalinists who never stop trying to destroy all knowledge of the GOD they hate---because their thoughts and lives and actions are shameful in HIS sight.

Sad, very sad. I would not want to be in any of these peoples shoe's. I believe in God and he knows it.

  • TXLady706 TXLady706

I was at Walmart, which has a MCDonalds.
I was In FRONT of this guy that had a sticker that said "VISITOR"

He looked Mexican. My daughter was having decision issues, so I was trying to hurry her along.
She made a decision and I turned around and apologized for her taking a bit of time.
    He looked angry and annoyed.
I live in Texas and this was a nice town, Georgetown, which is about 1/2 hour north of Austin. It's suburbia and there is a retirement community which is huge, so we have a bunch of gramma and grandapa like individuals around.
The girl behind the counter was as nice as could be.
After completing our order I moved to the side and slightly back - about 10 feet from the counter, so as to wait for my fries, smoothy and milk shake.
The guy who was behind me, ordered quickly. He had an accent, but spoke English pretty well.
I didn't listen to what he ordered. I was looking at my daughter, who was sitting down about 10 feet from me, where I was standing. He moved only slightly over to the right after placing his order.
The lady gave him something in a bag and then a milk shake was placed beside him and he picked it up and quickly left. I said nothing, because I didn't know if he had or had not ordered it. I suspected that he did not, but if I had said something, then I may be accused of being a racist or he may get even more mad then he already was. The rest of my order was not out yet, so maybe the milk shake WAS his. I waited for my order and then asked about the milk shake. They said that they had already made it. I said that that man picked it up. I apologized for not saying anything, but also said that I didn't know if he had ordered a milk shake or not. I told them that I thought it was crummy of him to steal like that. A lady standing in line said, "oh, thats bad". I said, "G-d bless him, maybe he needed it that much, that he would risk stealing for something so petty. He needs it more than I do." With that we walked away.

    • patsy1715

No excuse for stealing. Enough missions and soup kitchens around.

      • Deborah Trujillo

A bag boy at Albertsons (which is unionized) stole our bananas when bagging our groceries. We didn't notice this until the next morning so we went back with our receipt and they let us pick up some bananas. The cashier who checked us out was in on it because my husband saw her look at the bag boy and smirk! There was no excuse for this. Because of the union they have great pay and benefits!

    • justcrosstheborder

TXLADY706... Not all the people that have an accent are illegals. I was born a citizen. Have an accent and probably are more knowledge of the US than people born inside the 48 continue states. I was refused service in Mississippi at a KFC just because of my brown skin. I'm from Puerto Rico and at the time had served 10 yrs in the US ARMY and combat veteran. There are scum in every race, bar none. I don't put up with that type of situation whatsoever. I find it very interesting that the bussed-in "Union" drones, following the demands of their leftist leaders, picketed Wal Mart.....but not Target, who had employees working Thanksgiving Day. Unions cost jobs, not the creation of jobs. The Sate run media reinforces the lie that Wal Mart underpays their employees, when, in truth, they are one of the best paying. Leftists hate success, so they "Picket" a "Winner" like Walmart. Look behind the useful idiots picketing and you will eventually find Soros, CPUSA, etc.......all with the Obama stamp of approval.

    • John Cherish

I do and have...its cheaper better no hassles no worries can get what i want don't have to wait in line its delivered to my home in a lot of cases FREE don't have to spend money on Gas and trying to find a parking spot ..or listen to screaming kids with their parents..why would you want to torture yourself I can find better deals on-line at tiger direct for my electronics needs and at cheaper prices

      • Deborah Trujillo

I'm with you there! I prefer shopping online to going to the store--particularly during the holidays. I also prefer to give gift cards so the recipient is free to spend as he or she wishes.

BTW, John, I wish you the best in your job search! Back in 2007, I spent 3 months looking for work until the union hired me. Sometimes when we get people coming to the union wanting to file grievances over what is going on at their jobs, I feel like telling them to be grateful they have jobs as they don't seem to understand what is going on.

  • annelouisegelinas

America is now polarized and the only way out is war amongst ourselves. Wow, here we are back to the 17th century again. And the hippies didn't like war in other countries, so now they should be happy we can be at war with each other right here in America. Whoopee! They say you get what you ask for. Now it is warring in our own country against each other.

    • Ruggedlark

The polarization really got going during the 1st Obama administration, now, its just on the road to becoming a constant state of affairs, for the country. Lovely.

Those who are protesting, that work for Walmart are fools. Those working for Walmart get paid $10-$12 a hour (granted not a lot of money,) but work just under 40 hours, and are eligible to receive (free) food stamps and (free) Medicare....why would they protest for better hours and pay, just so they can now PAY for their health insurance, and NO longer qualify for food stamps.....seems like they are just shooting themselves in the foot.

    • John Cherish

They also have to pay a bigger cut of Union dues...so actually they end up behind the only ones who really benefit from this you guessed it...The Union bosses

  • Mike E.

victoryman you are dead wrong. Walmart pays terrible. I have a son who has been working for them for about 13 years off and on. The pay is under $10.00 per hour. That my friend is not a living wage. they also upgrade you to higher payed positions for a day, a week, or what ever is good for them but the pay doesn't go up with the job. They are not a bad company but not near as good as when Mr. Sam Walton was living. Another thing Target does pay a little better than Wally World.

I worked as a union worker nearly 40 years and it has some good points and some bad points. Obama has excused them from Obamacare and that is totally wrong but I didn't vote for him. He is runing this country.

    • Deborah Trujillo

There are good unions and bad unions out there. I happen to work for a good one. I don't agree with all of their politics but they treat me well.

Just check out the inscription an his wedding ring for starters. This heathen is poised to destroy America and the American way of life thanks to the idiotic morons who voted for him. WASHINGTON — When black voters gave President Barack Obama
93 percent support on Election Day in defiance of predictions that
they might sit it out this year, black leaders breathed a collective
    sigh of relief.

That encouraged those leaders to try to leverage more attention from both Obama and Congress. Although they waver over how much to demand from the president — particularly in light of defeated GOP challenger Mitt Romney’s assertion that Obama gave “gifts” to minorities in exchange for their votes — they are delivering postelection wish lists to the president anyway.

It's hard to have sympathy for CEO's who elect to give themselves huge bonuses or raises in the millions of dollars while their employees are having to rely on WIC, Food Stamps and state insurance like may of the WalMart employees are doing. I should remind you that us taxpayers are footing the bill for this.

I never used to be sympathetic towards unions until I went to work for one. I do not agree about many people being better off without a union. I have seen our union get many people their jobs back who were wrongfully terminated.

If you work for a union you are you one of the ones who live off the backs of the workers, and drive a big expensive car and not even get your hands dirty but collect the union extortion money from the employees...I guess you have a good job and you don't even have to work for it. I have seen the unions protect the useless dead wood in a company and drive that company right into bankruptcy and closure

      • Deborah Trujillo

I do NOT live off the backs of workers. I am a worker myself and I pay dues just like the members. I also do NOT drive a big expensive car. I have to deal with the members who come in expecting free legal advice because they pay dues and get nasty when I can't answer their questions because I'm not an attorney. We also get members coming in expecting us to work miracles and get them their jobs back when the company was justified in terminating them. These members then piss and moan when we can't help them and say we're no good. Us Anglo women have also been called butas by the Hispanic male members when they don't get their way and there is nothing we can do about it. So don't tell me I don't get my hands dirty.

Happy Thanksgiving! I have always believed that Thanksgiving Day was a day in which to give thanks to God for his bounty and his blessings on this land. If it is wrong or inappropriate to thank God, to whom shall we give our thanks? Perhaps we should thank Barry Soetero (sp. and who cares) for doing his best to destroy our Constitutional Republic. If God doesn't forgive stupidity, we are in a lot of trouble.

    • Deborah Trujillo

The union was not the cause of Hostess going out of business. It was the greed of the CEO. The union agreed to concessions in 2003 that saved the company over 200 billion dollars-money that was not put back into the company. Again, last year they asked the workers to give up more while the CEO gave himself a huge raise.

    Tad Cronn,

It's one thing to possess self-contained ignorance; it's altogether different when you pollute public forums with your stupidity. With so many minions who follow along behind you like dumb sheep, that makes what you're doing quite dangerous. Your remarks are doing every reader a disservice, and anyone agreeing with you are no wiser than you are. You are seriously part of the problem in our society, not the solution. Stop abusing your right to freedom of speech. You should no better by now.

American consumers know who the true robber barons are ... and Americans know these greedy bosses wear the union label.

  • Pam Peck

This is proof positive that you can lead Democrats to facts but you can't make them think. Watching Hostess go out of business and 1800 jobs lost didn't seem to sink into their heads. So now they think they will shut down Wal-Mart and lose more jobs. These people have no thought process thanks to the public school system.

  • Evermyrtle

This is a new low even for a union. That prices are in the ceiling already is the fruit of unions in America. They have ruined us economically.

  • http://www.facebook.com/captainjimgreen James Carlyle Green

Between clueless union idiots and astoundingly rude animalistic shoppers... it really makes me proud to be an American! It's no wonder our country is having so many serious problems... and could even elect a total loser as our president.

  • Pam Phillips

OMG! How dare those unions! Supporting families instead of CEO's riches! The ONE DAY, THE ONE DAY we are SUPPOSED TO GIVE THANKS ... be with family ... instead, retailers have turned into a bandwagon greedy frenzy... THINGS ... THINGS... THINGS ... not family? What has happened to this country??? I did not go out. I support those workers who wanted to be with their families! I just pray next year others will too!

  • TLady62

Which is why it didn't bother me one iota to stay home yesterday, and not get caught up in the commercialization and secularization of Christmas. It's not worth it.

  • musicman7

Obama believes in allah as his so-called god,he has a ring on his right hand that he has worn since before his marriage to moochelle. It reads;"Allah is the only god".
    I rest my case.

  • musicman7

I say we need to establish our own government within our given states and refer only to our soverign Constitution ,and our God,as the foundations of our newely formed governments. We can give our tax dollars to our own elected system instead of the racist, broken, corrupt one in D.C.,at least we would now that it was being used in a true manner of good instead of to buy particular votes and favors and to enslave all of us.

  • fwiw

The "attitude" towards Thanksgiving can be directly traced back to public education. Instead of trying to explain the pros and cons at the appropriate grade level, only cons are explained and bemoaned. The end should always be an explanation/celebration as to the things that make America different and unique, allowing people to be successful on their own.

  • a marine .

We are done with our Christmas shopping but I did go to my local Walmart to see if any union scum where picketing , I wanted to tell them what low life's they are and hoped they met the same fate as the hostess union members. But we had none, at 19% we have the highest unemployment in Virginia. I guess our people are glad to have a job.

  • jb80538

People in general are ignoring unions!

  • ceilimom

God is inside your heart, no one can throw the Lord God out! No judge, no law, no state.

  • gcubed

You all should get a job at Wal-Mart and then see if you can pay your bills. One of the most anti-American things you can do is shop at that store. But, go ahead. Buy crap from a crap store. Wal-Mart- Tomorrow's Garbage. And the jobs are garbage too. And it's not about unions..... It's about a livable wage. Billions in profits with employees on welfare. Go Wal-Mart.

  • Larry Swicegood

Thanks to the consumers who ignored the union pinheads. Those clowns only think of themselves and it's evident to anyone, that the unions, along with the Obama, administration, are only after total control of the American people. The sad part of it all is, many of those Americans are the ones who are willing to sale their souls to the devil for more money and benefits. And we all know who the devils are.

  • underthewire

Unions will do anything to take anyones hard earned dollars and waste it on themselves. I can only hope that most people will see that they are useless and leeches who promise to protect one from harm in the work place. The only thing they protect is those who could care less about putting in a honest days work.

  • http://www.facebook.com/williekmcd Bill Mcdonald

I went to my local Wallyworld with my own picket sign. "Workers Strike!. I need your job". Unfortunately, there were no picketers!

  • salim

over 100 years ago it was foretold that labor union would be one of the main reason for national apostasy.
to learn more, I highly suggest getting the book titled The Great Controversy (can get it online for free) authored by Ellen Gould White.
    be blessed!

Obama has sold his soul and our country to unions. Richard Trumka and Andy
stern , both union heads, were the two people who visited the White House more than any others. I believe to give Obama their guidance which they both said "we bought him".

I remember being taught that the Indigenous peoples were destroyed before the Pilgrims came, and one indigenous man taught the Pilgrims how they can survive the coming winter, about their 3rd year.

However, in high school, I was taught that Columbus destroyed the indigenous culture of the Islands. He enslaved the Indians and made them work. However, I suspect that the history is much more complicated than people let on. The liberals weren't there, so they revise history (how much of our history is fiction, anyhow?).

  • http://www.facebook.com/maxwell.friedlander Maxwell Friedlander

    Unions are now out dated.

  • Gringo Infidel

Buhahahahaa! Unions are weaker than they proclaim. They have within them the very seeds of their own destruction - time will show this to be so. Can the Republic survive the wait though?

  • kenhowes

The decline of the Thanksgiving holiday into nothing more than a huge dinner kicking off the Christmas season is truly sad. I am a Mayflower descendant. Maybe America no longer cares about these things, but it should.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gregbeaty Greg T Beaty

Unions make prices high, that is why Walmart buy it stuff from China. Bye, Bye union jobs.

  • Don

Black Friday isn't such a good deal, if, you charge your purchases that you can' afford to pay.
Unions are nothing but Obama foot soldiers. A Socialist bunch.

the unions will not be happy til WalMart is bankrupt and al the WalMart workers are out of a job! The WalMart workers have spoken - they do NOT want unions at WalMart, so leave them alone! Unions had a purpose year ago, but now they just protect the lazy good for nothing employees and take money from all employees so the union bosses can get rich.

  • southc0ast

The best we can do as the normal, whatever that has become, is stand aside as the lemmings stampede in pursuit of what they consider to be theirs by some artificial "right". As more jobs drain to right to work states, outside our borders, disappear through attrition or just union greed (hostess), these people will die off. They are too committed to their greed to change and it will to have be through their eventual passing (soon I hope) equilibrium can be established.

  • http://www.facebook.com/loran.carlson Loran Carlson

I was at a Wal-mart in the San Jose, Ca. area and by golly, there were the unions picketing outside one of the entrances. They were making loud noises and blocking that entrance effectively. But you know what? The store was packed and the shoppers were laughing their you know whats off at the picketers. They were being entertained by these union members. What does that tell you?

  • Sunni

This article correctly points out that union members will get a raise which the union will promptly take away in the name of dues, but the customers will continue to pay the price of it all in higher costs. A lose, lose situation.

  • fcsuszka

"It’s just hard to have sympathy for people who think they’re entitled to more money and benefits in an economy where millions would be content just to have a steady job."

Isn't this what Obama is doing? Tells us to stay home, don't go on vacation, eat our peas and buy an overrated POS electric car built by an auto manufacture that we the people bailed out of debt only to be lost in the process. I guess those who voted for him are, "entitled" to higher pay and benefits with the end result of higher prices to cover it. In my humble opinion these people should do something anatomically impossible just like their leader in crime. After all, we the people are paying the bill for him and his family to squander our tax dollars instead of practicing what he preaches.

Many unemployed people would enjoy the jobs these underhanded union supporting defecators have. They would probable do a better job too.

I will pay for their contraception, the second they pay for my ammo. I find it very strange that people want the government out of their bedrooms when talking about birth control, but the very same people now want the government back INTO their bedrooms by demanding laws that recognize who they sleep with as normal or however many people they decide to sleep with.

Maybe I was just born 20 years too late.

Down with the unions and the hell with democrats and Obama

The hypocracy of the unions protesting at walmart..Well how come 90% of all people who shop at wall mart are families and union members shop there...I have traveled all over the U.S. and have many who i know that belong to a union and they are always shopping and behind closed doors really praise wal mart....I was an board officer in a local of SEIU..and where i worked every person who worked in the many differend sites through out the state everybody shops at walmart....and they hate the union because in order to get the job they had to join the union...I was one and because of it i made sure i worked my way up and was electied for twelve years...and yes i talked down the Marxists agenda.....So when are you guys (members going to wake up) the higher ups are getting fat on your hard earned money and living high onthe hog.....Plus they have the best in healthcare....Look at Hostess the union lied to them and told them not to worry that anther company is in the works to buy out Hostess...Gee bet those 18500 people who are now appling of unemployment and tring to make ends meet are glad they went on strike....Their union masters are not hurting....Just one man's opinion

    • Deborah Trujillo

I was not aware that union's were still allowed to do that.

      • JOE_FELS

Deborah the Elected officals get a pay check and also an expense accout and yes they eat at the best resturants and stay at the best hotels in suites not rooms. they fly all over and yes they are allowed to spend the money and get reimburst for their expensis...The ones at the bottom just like in communists countries and any country run by a dictator the underlings will always pay for their exhuberant living style, all the while the underlings get pennies on the dollar.....most of time when a memeber gets introuble 90 our of a 100times the member looses....

        • Deborah Trujillo

What does that have to do with people being required to join the union? In right-to-work states that is not allowed and if the person is working within the bargaining unit of a union company, the union is required to represent that person in a grievance whether that person is a member or not. That representation can get very expensive. In states that are not right-to-work the union still cannot require bargaining unit employees to join it but it also doesn't have to represent them if they have a grievance if they choose not to join.

Also, you cannot generalize about the lifestyles of the union elected officials because not all of them are like that. Likewise, I cannot generalize about CEOs and say they're all crooks just because a few dishonest ones embezzle money. I also cannot call investment bankers crooks just because a few of them operate Ponzi schemes and live lavish lifestyles on their investors' money.

        • JOE_FELS

having to join the union in order to get the job is because they are a closed shop..Now public unions for state employees have to got to bat for those who are not in the union and those who are not in the union still have to pay about 60 to80% of what the dues is for the Union member....The only time it gets expensive is when they go to arbritration then the lawyers get envolved..jother than that the grievance is handled in house....Still if a person works in a place that the union is also established then they have to represent non union members and they do only the dont go to the mat for the person because they are not union.......You say that they union doesnt have to represent them in fact the employee has the right to refuse them...and so does the union member.....Deborah i worked in New Jersey and was an elected official of a local whos parent orgainization was SEIU.. and jersey is not a right to work state....even though i would like it to be.....and yes a majority of the upper crust are set in the marxists agenda...and only care about how much they can pocket....the graft and corruption at the top is rampant....more so than in the private sect......we can go around with this and still not reach the end.....I have been on both sides of the isle and trust me when i say this you are better off with out the union......because of the simple fact ...you pride yourself on the success you have made in coming up the latter on your merit and integrity....Most of the time the union is defending those who are of the ilk that they are the lazeists and prone to commit infractions that cause them their job and they cry...80% of these grievances are for lateness coming to work and coming back from lunch. creating a pattern for which discipline takes place,,,15% is due to failed drug test and alcohol when a safety violation is committed..5% for other infractions.....So in states where unions have a stronghold in most areas of employment they are closed shops........Ask your self this question ...You are a owner of a business or corp and due to financial obligations and the state of the economy cause you have to cut expenses..what do you do after you have done all you can do ..then go to the employees and say till things get a turn around ,We need to cut pay by 2%..and cut back on personal days and possible sick days in oreder to maintain a level that will remain us in business.....The union does not want to here that so they strike causing you to file bankrup....You yourself have made a nest egg of your own money to take care of your family....but the union keeps raiseing the dues on the memebers takeing from their take home pay..even it the 2% is accepted they still want the raise in the dues......Look what happened to Hostess...and down the road with the cost of obamacare things will get even worse.....for employees...hours wil be cut to part time and jpay will be cut..Untill the economy changes.......The union does not want to hear that they want more of your money no matter what hardship it causes you........They want more and more of yours but never let anyone take theirs...This is a fact of reality of the Marxists agenda that is upon us now.....

only ones who care about unions are the communist minions;; everyone else knows they are of no worth.........too bad all those obama voters were fighting to steal merchandise from the evil capitalists at bargain prices;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;hypocrisy at work

The unions have crushed the United States and now they have been destroyed!! I could not be happier to see that people are wiseing up!!! You pay union dues so they can put athiests and no gooders into office. We have lost much due to Unions and this weekend they were handed their heads you know where!!!! WOW!! Walmart you did good!!!! Target too!!!

Don't kid yourself, in the end Wal Mart workers will go Union. This is just the opening round. Greed and the promise of free goodies trumps everything. The reelection of Obummer is proof.

  • http://www.survivingurbancrisis.com/ Silas Longshot

Unions are corrupt to the core, dinosaurs of a bygone era, and irrelavent to todays world. They have a hardon for all large compaines, because of the union dues the workers would be forced to pay. IF they successfully took over WalMart, they would rake in MILLIONS every month even if dues were less than $15 per month per person. Then first thing, go on strike for higher wages, which drives up prices for all you WalMart shoppers. And costs the workers money while out on strike.

A pre-coronation message for the President elect:

Therefore you kings, be wise; be warned you rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him! Psalm 2:10-12
As for me and my house as long as he lends us breath...We will take refuge in Christ the living LORD!

Anarchy will reign - Even the ayatolla barackie - he with the latte skin will, hopefully, on his dying bed (on his way to virgin heaven)(G-d forbid what he will do with 72 of those?!!) will wish that he had not let the dogs from Hades loose in America - because WE THE PEOPLE will follow thru. GOD HELP AMERICA.
