Hobby Lobby Takes on the Obama Administration and the Federal Government

As you probably know, ObamaCare mandates are going to hit employers with 50 or more employees. A number of businesses have gotten exemptions. Many, maybe even all, of them are most likely political in nature. It’s the Santa Clause Effect: I’ll do you a favor if you do one for me — vote Democratic in the next election. Actually, it’s more like the Godfather Effect: “The Democrats will make you an offer you can’t refuse.”

There are some provisions of the 2700-page mandate that are downright evil. One of them is forcing businesses to pay for contraception cover. This would include abortifacients masquerading as birth control. An abortifacient is a substance that induces an abortion. It’s a post-conception drug, therefore, it does not come under the definition of a contra (against) conception.

A number of schools (Illinois-based Wheaton College and Virginia-based Liberty University), Catholic groups, and large companies are petitioning for an exemption. Hobby Lobby is one of them. The following is a statement from David Green, the CEO of Hobby Lobby:

My name is David Green, and I am the founder and CEO of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. In case you are not familiar with our company, we are a national arts and crafts retailer with more than 500 stores in 41 states. We are headquartered in Oklahoma and employ more than 22,500 individuals nationwide.

I started Hobby Lobby as a miniature picture frame company, called Greco Products, in 1970. My family and I made miniature picture frames and sold them to various retailers. Because there was a high demand for this product at the time, we were able to take out a loan of $600 from the bank to open our first retail store, which consisted of 300 square feet of manufacturing space in the back, and 300 square feet of retail space in the front. That store became the first ever Hobby Lobby.

My family has been an integral part of this business since day one, and remains an important part of it today. My son, Steve Green, is president of Hobby Lobby. My son, Mart Green, is president of Mardel, which is a Christian bookstore that is an affiliated business with Hobby Lobby. My daughter Darsee Lett is a vice president of Hobby Lobby. Several of my grandchildren also work in our business.

Another integral part of Hobby Lobby from day one has been our faith. My parents were both pastors, and all of my siblings are involved in ministry. I felt like somewhat of an outsider going into retail, but I’ve found a way to minister through Hobby Lobby. We have always operated our company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles, including integrity and service to others. We believe wholeheartedly that it is by God’s grace and provision that Hobby Lobby has been successful. Therefore, we seek to honor him in all that we do.

As part of that faith, we care greatly for our employees and their families. That’s why, unlike most major retailers, we are only open 66 hours per week and are closed on Sundays to allow our employees to spend time with their families. For the past four years in a row, we have increased the minimum wage for our full-time employees, and it’s now 80 percent above the national minimum wage.

We also believe in sharing our faith, which is why we purchase full-page ads at Christmas and Easter in newspapers in all the major cities where we operate. We also contribute both time and funds to numerous Christian organizations across the nation and the world. Hobby Lobby has always been a tool for the Lord’s work. For me and my family, charity equals ministry, which equals the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We know that we have been blessed by God’s grace, and we believe it is because we have chosen to live our lives and to operate our business according to His word, and we are very grateful for that.

But now our faith is being challenged by the federal government. The Health and Human Services “preventative services” mandate forces businesses to provide the “morning-after” and the “week-after” pills in our health insurance plans. These abortion-causing drugs go against our faith, and our family is now being forced to choose between following the laws of the land that we love or maintaining the religious beliefs that have made our business successful and have supported our family and thousands of our employees and their families. We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate.

What a wonderful testimony and witness for Christ. Their considerate treatment of their employees is how all businesses should be run.

I pray the David Green family and business will be blessed for taking a stand against Obamacare mandates. And I encourage everyone who cares about it to send words of encouragement to the family....and to patronize their stores.

Thx for the article. Like the Chick Fil A incident, it gives me hope.

    • TexBarb

Indeed......it's my favorite store by far.

My wife and I have been customers for years. Good people, good business model.

I would recommend them to anyone. We all need to get behind these people and support them.

The only shame I see is that they don't actively announce their church affiliation. Nazarene. Look us up. Holiness is a new thing for many of you.

Business dealings is where the rubber meets the road in a lot of respects.

The workman is worthy of his meat, and all too often his daily wage is held hostage without biblical merit.

The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.

But the reverse is also true; Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.

All due to hearts that are not filled with equity.

If we did ONE thing to kick this ball off to a good start would be to follow this one law:

Leviticus 19:13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

NOTE it says DEFRAUD & ROB = wrong your neighbor | seize by force where WRONG is equal to OPPRESSION & force to PLUNDER.

Also another scripture works well here if you have eyes to see:

Leviticus 6:4: Then it shall be, because he hath sinned , and is guilty , that he shall restore that which he took violently away , or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten , or that which was delivered him to keep , or the lost thing which he found

If only the Governments instituted among men had the hearts of the people in alignment with Yah.

      Jeremiah 21:
12 O house of David, thus saith the LORD; Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

Micah 2:2: And they covet fields , and take them by violence ; and houses , and take them away : so they oppress a man and his house , even a man and his heritage.

We are to live by the Law UNLESS It goes against God's Law, Then we have to choose which we will serve. God or Man. I admired Mr. Green for his strong faith in Our Lord and Savior

Amen to your comments. I, too, pray for the Green family and their business. I live just one mile from a Hobby Lobby store and frequent it often. My whole family loves this store. Just the other day, my 15 year old granddaughter asked that her only Christmas present be a giftcard from Hobby Lobby so that she can continue her crafts that she enjoys so much. I have read the David Green biography and respect him and his whole family very much and I continue to pray for his suit of Obamacare. Winning this suit will help all Christians. Thank-you, David Green. God Bless America!

Hobby Lobby is a corporation like any other, and subject to regulation. They will need to abandon their religious beliefs or abandon their corporate charter, that decision is up to them.

    • http://www.facebook.com/mike.banker.92 Mary Jayne Nason

Your kind of recklessness abandonment is why we are in this mess.

      • vanguard7

I agree wholeheartedly Mary Jane. Where in the Constitution or any other document forged by our founding fathers that lays out not only our freedoms but the guidelines by which our government was meant/intended to operate by that gives the government the right to dictate to businesses and individuals alike what kind of realtionship they are to have in regard to their religious beliefs and how they publicly conduct their lives? Quite the opposite in fact. The Constitution specifically states that the gov't maintain a separation between the church and the state. It goes much further by 1. guaranteeing our rights and definitively stating what freedoms we are to enjoy as American citizens, and 2. focuses on what the gov't CANNOT do. While there are only a few directives (if you will) that state what gov't will do and responsible for, most of the defining rules pertaining to gov't are about what the gov't is not allowed to do or force upon us. Getoutofthebubble really needs to read and study the Constitution then perhaps he/she will understand that they are more the problem and less the solution with what our country is experiencing in the past several decades.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

Birth control isn't controversial anymore folks. If you want to complain about it, feel free. But don't pretend you're being oppressed.

        • http://www.facebook.com/diane.green.961 Diane Green

Isn't it odd that those that don't get their birth control are calling it a violation of the rights of women, i.e. "oppressed". THe fact that people are complaining about it means it is controversial...it is easy to flippantly disregard the beliefs and rights to freedoms when they do not match yours. What is particularly grievous are those organizations that are self insured and are demanded to provide such services/products that violate their beliefs; mandated because they might employ people who want them...such people have a perfect right to get another job.

        • DontTreadOnMe11

I agree with the premise of your post but I do have to call you on one point you're trying to make. The Constitution does not specifically state that the gov't maintain a separation between the church and the state. Nowhere in the Constitution will you see the words "separation between the church and state". Jefferson referred to it is a letter he wrote and some Supreme Court judges have referred to it but it does not exist in the Constitution.

      • GetOutOfTheBubble

It's not my fault that this country is stupid enough to insist that people's health insurance should come from their employer. If it were up to me employers would have nothing to do with it. But they do for the time being, and they shouldn't be able to deny their employees basic services that should be included in their coverage.

        • Dawn Garland

STAY IN YOUR BUBBLE,,,,WE DON'T WANT YOU IN OURS

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

        • http://www.facebook.com/diane.green.961 Diane Green

"Basic services" ? I guess that again depends on who you are asking. Such services as contraception has never been a "basic service". You would be hard pressed to find an insurance company that would pay for it. Probably zero. Only the government did...in welfare type services. The argument only comes up just now from those that want the the government to provide their everything; and the American people are being mandated to pay it for everyone in the Obama Care. It will be like most everything is with government regulation....like car insurance...there will be many that will not buy it because they STILL will not be able to afford it...maybe get a waiver....so others will pay it for them....and like car insurance....will go around uninsured whether it is the law or not....and those "middle class" people will again be the one burdened to pay it all.....! The rich, like in oher socialist countries, will be just a notch below what they are used to, and the middle class will be sunk lower to the level of the other financially oppressed, and there will BE no middle class! Then the American norm will be demonstrating in the streets like Greece and Spain, and others...!

        • jimshaw54

And it is not my fault that Obama voters are stupid enough to insist that people's health insurance should come from the Federal Government. The best world would be people being able to buy their own insurance, and type of insurance, from anywhere in the country. If they choose not to buy insurance, then they need to take the responsibility for their own bills and not expect the Federal or State government supply their health care. There is already in place aid for those who cannot afford to purchase insurance. The last I heard this was supposed to be a country that is home to the free, not a socialistic state where government is our nanny.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

The last I heard this is 2012, and sometimes solutions to real problems don't fit into idealistic dreams.

        • jimshaw54

The only utopian dream you are talking
about is Obamacare. The truly idealistic dream is that "everyone" will have health insurance and that
health care costs will go down and taxes won't be raised on anyone but "the
rich". Not THAT is an idealistic dream if I ever heard one, and I have heard more than
a few in my life-time. You need to live in the real world where real people
work, save money, and invest what the government doesn't take from them. If they put most of their investments in tax sheltered
investments I don't blame them. My husband and I scrimped and saved over the years so that we could take care of ourselves in our old age, and now the government wants to take what we worked so hard for away and put us on their idea of health care, complete with government employees making health care decisions for us. If you don't believe that is going to happen you are the one who lives in a bubble of fantasy that government is benevolent. I am not rich, and I do not blame the rich when they shelter their money rather than have the government p** it away. Our country was founded by people who worked hard, scrimped and saved to get ahead (or just to live) and now we have a whole lot of people who think government should take care of them from the cradle to the grave as in Obama's little story about Julia. Remember her? Helpless to do much of anything for herself.
End of discussion. Don't answer this post because if you don't understand this you are too obtuse to understand anything I write. I can't be bothered with people like you who don't understand reality until it smacks them in the face. That is why we are saddled with Obama for at least another four years,

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

You're the one ignoring reality if you think anything but a single-payer system is optimal for delivering healthcare.

Keep telling me the sky is falling because of Obama. 4 years of the facts not bearing that out really sets your argument on sound footing.

        • sadbuttrue

I'm sorry but when did birth control and abortion become basic services?? Those are choices and shouldn't be pressed upon the employer to cover.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

Women don't choose to be women Pebbles. Birth control is as basic as a prostate exam.

      • http://www.facebook.com/jude1229 Judy Holtegel

        AMEN TO THAT..THANK YOU!!!

    • Think About It

Please read and understand the 1st Amendment. It says the Government shall make no law prohibiting the free exercise of religion. Both the Government and you are telling the owners of Hobby Lobby that they cannot freely exercise their religion. The government and you would have a much easier time of making this stick if it weren't for that pesky thing called the Constitution. You know, the same document that allows you the freedom to say what you want.

      • GetOutOfTheBubble

No one's stopping anyone from practicing their religion.

By your logic I could say it was against my religions sensibilities to pay taxes, and all of a sudden my exercise of religion is being prohibited by being forced to pay taxes.

Saying something is your religion shouldn't be a free pass to ignoring laws.

        • Les

That's where you are wrong. I believe that the Quakers are exempt from paying taxes for that very reason. And thanks coming from me, an atheist. The Law is the Law.

This is the very reason this country is in trouble. We were a nation ruled by laws as a Republic and now we are a nation rule by lawyers as a democracy.

        • Les

And that's coming from me, an atheist. The Law is the Law. (damned auto-fixer)

        • http://www.facebook.com/diane.green.961 Diane Green

I'm afraid many Christians ARE being stopped from practicing their beliefs. The reality here is that the Word of God hasn't changed....these "sensibilities" have been here since the day of Christ. It is just our governement and society that has changed as atheists and cults have become greater in number and influence; so, the argument is now about defending one's faith. It is now the challenge of Christians to hold on to the freedoms that were ONCE acknowleged and lauded!

        • cmdorsey

Well you will probably get your chance at that proposition. That leftist marxist Tammy Baldwin who will OCCUPY a WI senate seat calls for those who don't believe in war that they won't have to pay the taxes for the lifesaving equipment they need. Oh ya, she's a honey. Another Soros, moveon.org - fieldworks.com babe. She is so left of left there's no left left. She's a controlling bytch. And about not getting a free pass to ignore laws, it seems to be the new way of life in this country. Lawless, Godless Obama, Holder, Reid, Pelosi do as they damn well please. laws or no laws.

    • TheSunDidIt

Acid head. I would say I'm not so "Christian" as most of the other posters here. I'm a barely "saved" Marine and we consider people like you a target of opportunity. The ONLY reason Christians don't rise up in arms against you is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has told us not to "resist authority". That passage doesn't mean we don't resist authority at all. It specifically meant by force of arms. We're to stand against ALL evil wherever it (you) raise it's ugly head. Hobby Lobby is NOT just like any other firm and the Supreme Court has ALREADY RULED that corporations DO have the same rights as individuals. THEREFORE MORON, the facts are against you. There is ALREADY A RIGHT for corporations to defend being forced to abandon their moral stands because they can ALSO do so as individuals. You CANNOT force ANYONE to abandon their religious beliefs just because you "don't agree". Deal with it.

      • GetOutOfTheBubble

Obamacare says otherwise. Deal with it.

And the Supreme Court made an egregious error in that finding. If you knew anything about the founding fathers you'd know of their contempt for corporations.

      • cmdorsey

        GOOD ANSWER MARINE!!!

    • Tpatriot

How about just firing all the employees and
hire illegal's. I'm certain they get an exemption
      right away.

    • Tionico

just because the company has a corporate structure does not preclude the company being run according to the principles and faith of its governors. IF a corporation is, for the purposes of law, an "individual", and it is, that individual has the same rights under the COnstitutiion as any other individual. That includes the right to be free to live by the faith of its founders/directors.

Further, the Constitution, in the First Ammendment, proclaims CONGRESS shall make no law establishing a religion, or preventing the free exercise thereof. It makes no distinction between individuals or corporations, does it? CONGRESS have passed this law, against the will of seventy percent of the people it purports to serve, which PREVENTS the free exercise of these people who control Hobby Lobby, by forcing them to purchase products that do things they morally oppose. Killing the unborn is, in their view, wrong, and they cannot do it, nor can they enable anyone else, at their expense, to do so. The free exercise of the religion long and strongly held by these people is being prevented. Are you so obtuse as to be unable to comprehend this principle? Or are you just a troll, trying to muck up the pond of truth with your evil values?

The Green family have it right: they are being forced to chose between three courses: obey God, as they see it; obey the illegally constituted laws of our congress; or fold their business. I think I know which course they will choose.... I know which I HOPE they will choose. Better, I hope the courts see things aright, and force the government to back off. The Equal Protection Clause should provide these people the same exemption provided some other groups.. some of which are merely financial entities, unions with no particular conscnience toward abortion's evil. If a UNION can gert an exemption, these people should also be granted the same.

      • GetOutOfTheBubble

Anyone who thinks the founding fathers intended the Constitution should ever be used to defend corporations is in serious need of history lessons.

        • mocha10

We have enjoyed the BEST and RICHEST country in the world for over 200 years because of our Constitution. Now we have a government that wants to trash it so we can be just like Europe (just like everyone else). Show me one country that has had more amazing entrepreneurs using their thinking to create AMAZING gifts for Americans. We developed electricity, we developed the automobile, we have men who stood on the moon. All because of a constitution that gave us Liberty and Freedom as a people. Why would anyone want to change and move "Forward" away from that? This government is evil!

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

It's because of a lot more than our constitution.

And our constitution was never intended to be used to defend the rights of corporations. Period.

    • Rick

Hey idiot, what garbage are you spewing here. Go elsewhere.
Corporations numb-nut, have rights just as you do. Oh you obviously missed that course in grammar school! Idiot. Be gone!

      • GetOutOfTheBubble

My school taught more than just grammar, so I know that corporations are not people and should not be treated as such.

        • cmdorsey

So I guess corporations run by themselves, with robots or little martian men that come down at night and just get things done. You, sir, are delusional.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

That corporations are run by people does not mean corporations are people. I hope you're smart enough to grasp that.

        • cmdorsey

Corporations are run by people does not mean corporations are people. What a stupid remark. How old are you and which marxist college do you go to? Have you ever been hired by a poor person? I know I haven't. Go to a reliable economics class. If there were no corporations built by PEOPLE, how do people get hired to feed their families. Quit blaming corporations for your failures. You are all so brainwashed, I don't even think you know what country you live in. Perhaps you might try moving to Cuba????

  • laissez-faire

I am an atheist but I will now buy from this store in our area because I believe in religious freedom, a founding prinicple of this great country of ours. Go get'em Hobby Lobby...

    • GetOutOfTheBubble

Religious freedom doesn't mean being able to ignore laws you don't like.

It's against my religion to give any money to anything that leads to someone's death, so I should never have to pay taxes again, lest any of it go to the military.

      • COTom

Hey bubblehead, Religious Freedom means just that. Ignoring God's law, to appease man's law, is something that you probably aren't familiar with. Ergo is why the framers of the Constitution, included it.
So glad that you're against anything that leads to someones death.... which implies you don't consume any taxpayer funded Genetically Modified food.

      • http://www.facebook.com/diane.green.961 Diane Green

Yes, it does. The bible says to obey God instead of man. Christ and Christians disobeyed the laws of the Jews as well as that of the Roman government, and were persecuted. It also says that we must pay our taxes...pay to Ceasar his due; so we must do that. As it happens Christians have different views on the military; some cannot in good conscious serve in order to take the life of another; others will serve; however, in different capacities; still others have a different definitions to the term "kill" and "murder". However, those who chose to obey the Word of Christ will do just that. One could only admire ANYONE that stands up for their Christian conscience. No doubt, there will be other laws and "rights" that will violate the Word of God.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

I don't admire people who think their personal convictions are the same as a gods. Religious opinion is given far too much weight. Your religious opinions don't mean more than my non-religious opinions.

        • duckyack

Uh, . . . your opinions aren't really supported by much of anything.

      • cmdorsey

Then you need to have a visit with the marxist usurper cuz that is who you are paying taxes to and he let FOUR Americans die. He's from hell. And just because he's a muslim doesn't give HIM the right to ignore laws. Karma's a bytch

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

Kind of like when Bush let 3000 Americans die, or do you somehow see that as less of a problem?

        • cmdorsey

You are sick. What are you, one of those truthers that actually believe GW Bush was the reason for 9/11? Maybe let's blame Willy Billy Clinton for not taking out bin laden when he had the chance. Bush didn't let 3000 americans die. Why don't you question the antics and lies and cover-ups of this administration? You see, if that great wise man, intern molester Clinton would have done his job instead of playing CIGAR with his honey, 9/11 wouldn't have happened. Clinton did nothing when that ship had a hole blown into it nor did he do anything when they tried to blow up the twin towers the first time. You need to go to confession or something. Maybe you need to dig a little deeper into the lies we hear everyday, making slaves out of us. That's all I'm saying to you. You know NOT what you are talking about

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

Hilarious. 4 people die on Obama's watch, it's all his fault.

3000 people die on Bush's watch, and it's his predecessors fault.

          You're pretty funny dude.

        • duckyack

Are you really still using that limp reasoning?

        • Dave

Hey Bubble - if you are referring to 9/11/2001 - that took years to set up which occurred mostly during your beloved Clinton's watch. Not to mention the USS Cole bombing and other atrocities under his watch which all went unpunished. Bush was just the recipient of Clinton's inaction. Get your history straight before showing your ignorance again.

        • duckyack

Now, there you go again! What did I tell you about comparing the past to the present? Once again, it matters not what anyone else did. What's wrong is wrong. If you must defend your guy by bringing up a past liar, why don't you get a blog and compare your heart out that way?

    • cmdorsey

You are an open minded person and I appreciate what you said. But remember what O'crap-pile said, 'you didn't build that'. I didn't see O'crap at our business working late into the night trying to meet deadlines to get 3 newspapers out, before computers came along and like now, it's only me and my husband. Who can afford to hire anyone or for that matter, put up with all the BS that you have to go through TO hire someone. Don't know who this Bubble guy is but he seems to have bubbles for brains.

      • GetOutOfTheBubble

"you didn't build that" And they didn't build it because he was talking about public infrastructure. Pretty funny that you're accusing me of having bubbles for brains when you parrot misinformation that is easily refuted. Just go to youtube and have a look at the full speech, not just the clip you saw on whatever rag you consider a news source.

        • cmdorsey

I thought the Obama butt kissers were done playing troll since they stole the elections. At the beginning of the O'crap administration, all the promises to fix infrastructure, bridges, etc. Boy that didn't happen did it. All those $Trillions we didn't have were laundered through those phony green and solar BS. Then the money went full circle right back into his pocket and the pockets of his crooked ilk. I thought the property taxes we paid in our counties went to fix our highways and bridges. The federal taxes for the same reason. All that forced Social Security robbed out of our checks was to be saved for our retirement. Where is all the money? Ask Barney's Frank and Dodd. They are doing a great job bringing down all the small community banks that used to be in charge of college loans. Now the feds hand out the checks which go into the marxist universities so the 25 administrators per college can raise tuition as high as they please and in the meantime, our kids are being brainwashed with Karl Marx's failed vision. Read your history. Bubble Brain

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

Let me get my tinfoil hats, apparently it's that kind of party.

Please, tell me the last time you were on a college campus. I'm sure you know so much about them.

        • cmdorsey

Well, I didn't NEED to go to college. I worked and found my career on my own without giving the marxists $50,000. So which one has the brains, you - or me?

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004623030332 Jim David

Education isn't only about finding a job, ideally it enables people to be well-rounded, well-informed members of society. Your failure at those two things might explain why you get your "news" from sources like this.

(PS: in answer to your question - you both have brains, but GetOutOfTheBubble seems to be using his quite a bit better)

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004623030332 Jim David

You know, I must admit that I have this stereotype in my head that all of you are in padded rooms in mental hospitals foaming at the mouth and rhythmically banging your heads against the bars as you type these paranoid rants with two fingers, but that's probably not fair.

I bet some of you are let out on work release as long as you are on your meds. With enough medications, some of you can probably function well enough to simply be the crazy uncle who sits in the chair mumbling angrily with food in his hair. The one the children are afraid to go near.

Some of you might live in halfway houses or even in your own mobile homes and make little things out of possum and skunk hides in your spare time...as long as some health professional is there for when you have your occasional fits and end up writhing on the ground spewing and spitting insane racist garbage.

Yeah, some of you are probably able to live somewhat normal lives with enough supervison. Good thing there are enough liberals with good hearts to take care of people like you who nobody else can love.

        • duckyack

Oh you nasty person. I did see the entire speech, but apparently you did not. No one has misunderstood what he meant, and if you did it's because you have bubbles in your brain!

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

You absolutely misunderstood what he meant. I don't know why, that's your problem to deal with.

Americans have allowed our government to become corrupt in just about all that it does, they have re-elected the guy that claims, America is no longer a Christian nation, the party that does not want God in it's platform, people that serve only themselves, in our government. It is not just hobby lobby that is being infringed on, it is all Americans that are being attacked within, this bill is about freedom, this bill is about the government taking your God given freedon of choice and giving it to a death panel for review. If WE all don't stand up with hobby lobby and the Lord, to get rid of this whole bill, it will get rid of us.GOD BLESS AMERICA

    • pamwms

Well said. I agree. There's an old, old hymn called, "Stand up, stand up for Jesus!" It has never rung more true than today!

    • GetOutOfTheBubble

"this bill is about the government taking your God given freedon of choice and giving it to a death panel for review" You've been misinformed. There's no death panel and your choices aren't being reduced.

Keep fighting Obamacare if you insist, worked out real well for Romney.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001254049095 Ray Lindsey

You obviously have not read the bill. You are right there is no death panel,
they cleverly covered it up by saying it was end of life counceling. It is
a panel that decides whether you are worth fixing. Yes we will keep
fighing, because it is not about healthcare, it is about control,,,wake up

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

I haven't read the bill word for word, but I've read detailed analyses, which you can find to verify my following statements, or I can find it for you if you insist:

"You are right there is no death panel, they cleverly covered it up by saying it was end of life counceling. "

They didn't cover anything up. It was always end of life counseling. It was the end of life counseling that was referred to as death panels.

"It is a panel that decides whether you are worth fixing." The end of life counseling and this panel are two separate things. There is a panel that will work to find savings in healthcare, looking for shared problems across the country.

Get your facts straight before you tell me to wake up.

        • jimshaw54

"Bubble" You need to get your facts straight. A death panel by anyother name is still a death panel. You can call it "end of life counseling", but if the counseling is you aren't going to get treatment in order to live, then it is a death panel. If you think the government won't deny care you have your head in the sand. As soon as it is not "cost effective", or you don't have any "productivity" left you had better hope you don't have a major health issue. What you apparently haven't learned in your life time, whatever length of time that is, is that beaurocrats for the most part go strictly by the rules with no room for human compassion or understanding. Apparently you haven't had to fight "the system" yet, or not enough, to know.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

"but if the counseling is you aren't going to get treatment in order to live, then it is a death panel" It isn't, so it isn't.

The government isn't in charge of whether or not people get care. You've been misinformed if you think they are.

I've dealt with the IRS; I know what dealing with a bureaucracy is like.

What I've learned in my lifetime is not to be afraid of every random thing someone says I should be afraid of, especially when the fears are unfounded.

        • duckyack

Clearly, you are incapable of seeing into the future, using the past as reference. In other words, in all things, past behavior predicts future behavior. Every time the government gets involved in "helping," it eventually runs over the people it set out to help. The fact that there is "end of life" counseling, speaks volumes to what this will evolve into. Why does the government feel the need to get involved in the first place? Tell us!

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

The government got involved to say that people should get end of life counseling.

There's nothing complicated about this. End of life counseling is a good thing, and the government made sure people could get it if they wanted it.

The idea that this turns into death panels is a complete fiction.

        • Jeff Brodhead

Want some "end of life counseling"?... Gee, I can give you some, for FAR less than "$5500" per family per year. What an idiotic concept!

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

You think it's idiotic to make counseling available to people who are in the process of dying or losing a loved one? What a heartless person.

        • Jeff Brodhead

You can't read? Go get a copy of the "Affordable Care Act".
It's a collection of violations of your rights. If you think the same creatures which wrote that garbage, have your best interests in their depraved little minds, I'm sorry for you.

To Hell with the Nanny State!

        • jimshaw54

You really don't "get" it, do you?

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

Get what? That my entire worldview is wrong and I should fear the very existence of the government?

        • Jeff Brodhead

Get your head out of your bubble-butt! How can one be soooo blind?

        • Pebbles

Symantics. I was a hospice nurse for many years, and end of life issues have decisions to be made for sure, but they should not be made by the government, ergo, death panel. End of life issues should be made by the patient and their family ONLY. Interesting that they do not consider themselves candidates for the healthcare system and decision making by these panels that they are subjecting the rest of America to. This is abhorrent in the eyes of many in this country, and should not be allowed. They have set themselves apart and above you, me and the rest of the populace.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

They're not making decisions for anyone. It's counseling. It's OPTIONAL counseling.

What in the world makes you think optional counseling is a bad idea for people in the process of losing a loved one?

        • Jeff Brodhead

"Optional"????? BULL KRAP! Mandatory. "You are no longer productive, it's time to end your family's suffering and burden. Take these little pills and you'll sleep."

        • Jeff Brodhead

That's the way it works in Utopia.

        • Pebbles

THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT HAVE THAT RIGHT!!!!!! And they are most certainly making decisions for people that will affect their lives. What do you think counseling means?????? They will decide who gets what treatment based on the person's overall life expectancy, regardless of what their general health is at the time. Furthermore, the government is the last place anyone will choose to go for any counseling, and why should they. If anyone is to get out of the bubble, it is you. Man, you just don't get it, do you. You are actually spinning this counseling thing into something good, and it certainly is not. Ask the people in the UK who have experienced this first hand, or Canadians. They will inform you post haste and will most certainly not mince any words in the offing. Wake up, sweetie, you are 100% incorrect in your analogy of the counseling committee. They are to decide whether you get treatment or hospice type counseling. That in my and many estimations of their purpose, is a death panel.

        • duckyack

Thank you very much, but I doubt this guy will ever be able to think critically or logically.

        • GetOutOfTheBubble

Yeah except for the part where the comment is without basis since she and the rest of you get the facts wrong. It doesn't matter how logical you think you are when you're getting basic facts wrong. Your belief is not the same as a fact.

        • cmorplante

When they've run out of rich people's money, and China has cut off the credit and a Doctor submits a request for a $75,000 operation for a 72 year old lady what do you think will transpire?

Sorry I didn't answer sooner, out shopping and just got back. You are welcome, and I agree with you. GOOTB will never "get it", and sadly, a lot of Americans don't. Too bad the younger generations were so spoiled they have come to expect more and more and have no value in life, and life's issues mean nothing to them.

    DIVORCE AGREEMENT
This was written by a college student. There is hope for our young people!!
I just had to share it!

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.
Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a our separation agreement:
--Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
--We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.
--You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
--Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.
--We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and the coal mines, and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.
--You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.
--We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.
--You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.
--We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks.
--We'll keep Bill O?Reilly, and Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .
--You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.
--You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.
    --We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.
--You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.
--We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.
--You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.
--We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."
--I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".
--We'll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.
--Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.
In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you might think about which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.
    Sincerely,
    John J. Wall
    Law Student and an American
P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin & Charlie Sheen, Barbara Streisand, &
( Hanoi ) Jane Fonda with you.

    • HDA

If we could really do this, oh mine!

    • duckyack

      Thanks for sharing

    • T. Edward Price

Maggie, I don't see the same hope you do. The interesting thing about deception is that you can't see that you're deceived. The two ideological sides he delineated are not the polar opposites they appear to be. They are just a continuation of the false Left/Right, Liberal/Conservative paradigm that gives us only the ILLUSION of true choice. The arbiter of true conservatism is not the voice GOP talking heads (Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Levin, O'Reilly, etc,), but instead, Yahweh and His perfect, immutable law. "[C]apitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street" are ALL part of the problem, not the solution. Today's capitalism is more correctly referred to as "corporatism", owing its existence to unlawful special consideration, incentives, and tax breaks that are not available to individuals and small business owners. Monopolies exist only because of anti-Biblical, immoral governmental privileges. Wal-mart could not exist without political favoritism. Wall Street is not a conservative political entity. They have ALWAYS financed "both sides" of the political spectrum on every single issue, therefore being assured of always being on the winning side. It is no different than the Soviets always providing multiple options at the ballot box, controlling the opposition, and thus, placating the people with the "illusion of choice". Pharmaceutical companies also have a complete government facilitated monopoly, putting a stranglehold on alternative therapies, and depriving the people of true health choices. And as far as "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", you can keep that vile, despicable, UnGodly, anti-Christian, piece of filth. The song is a Unitarian prayer, trumpeting the defeat of Christianity. We should all be much more diligent, and have the mindset of the Bereans, to be certain that we are not being deceived by those who tickle our ears with what we want to hear. There are, indeed, two distinct ideologies at play. The conservative right is defined by Yahweh, and His commandments, statutes, and judgments. ANYTHING to the left of that is liberal, wether it be Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Constitutional, or any other philosophy.

  • 1xgi

The government has no authority over our religious belief, that is exactly why this bill is unconstitutional. We have freedom of reigion, We have freedom of speech, and We elect people to uphold these freedoms, not to ignore them. We have the right to bear arms to protect ourselves from the corruption of those We have elected. We state our greevance, We ask God for the answers, and if the government attempts to take any of our God given constitutional rights away.......you say......We should just abandon our religious belief????............because it's hobby lobby inc. the Greens and all of their imployees have to give up their rights in order to have a job???????????..............there should never be a day when any American, in or out of business, should ever even concider abandoning their religious beliefs, these beliefs are what made America strong, one nation under God, the home of the brave, land of the free.....now you think We should just abandon all that We hold dear. I think not. GOD BLESS AMERICA

In my religion, taxes are forbidden. According to you, I should be able to avoid paying taxes because it's against my religion, right?

The first two verses of Romans 13, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation," are applicable only when the next two verses also apply: "For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." Those who have taken us captive are a terror to good works and should be considered "ministers of God" about as much as Ehud considered King Eglon to be a minister of God (Judges 3). Good Christian sentiments are expressed in Psalms 149: "Let the saints [have] a two-edged sword in their hand; To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord."

  • Danmo43

Funny (and wonderful) that those who have gone against the federal gooberment has increased in business. Shows you who is for who. Chik-fil-a had record sales during the "boycott". EVERYONE needs to visit a Hobby Lobby near them and BUY SOMETHING!

  • Made_in_the_USA

I just visited Hobby Lobby this morning with my granddaughter. The elderly lady in front of me had a number of small items, and only wanted the ones on sale. Even though we were in a hurry, I appreciated that the cashier was careful to sort through the items, advised her which were on sale, and completed the sale. When I get a little older, I can only hope to be treated as well as this lady was treated. At Hobby Lobby, I expect that will happen! And she even said Merry Christmas. Don't hear that in very many stores!!

  • Lady Liberty

This post gives me a 'warm and fuzzy feeling' about wonderful people like the Greens! We should pray even more for them and for all the others who are doing their part in stopping this insanity being forced on America! Hobby Lobby is a great company, along with Chick Fil A, and all those small businesses who are taking on the 'Goliath' from DC!!! We Christians will win this battle...we MUST stand together!!! Merry CHRISTmas to all!!!!!

What part of "Congress shall make no law..." is it that the judiciary has SO much challenge understanding? Violation of the Oath of Office IS grounds for removal from office - even for those in the supreme court of the United States of America (SCOTUS)... Don't want to be bound by oaths, DO NOT MAKE OATHS.

    • GetOutOfTheBubble

The part where nothing in the law says anything about Christians or Christianity.

Laws don't need Christian approval. Sorry.

      • Jeff Brodhead

Which "law" are you referring to?

Laws NEED CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY, PERIOD. Obamallamadingdongcare violates the constraints of the Constitution of the United States of America. Just because a specific word is not written in the Constitution, nor the Bill of Rights, does NOT make it fair game for the TRAITORS in DC.

Or this election was lost because of "the takers" or voter fraud. Whatever nonsense you folks want to insist upon really. It's irrelevant since you're almost completely making it up. Might as well say the Black Panthers won the election for Obama.

You must be a progressive democrat. You probably believe that spending more money by the government will reduce the debt.

I live in California but have two great friends........One in Kansas City and one in Denver.........The one in Denver introduced me to Hobby Lobby.........What a great store.......and then while in Kansas City was introduced to that one.........Near a copy cat.....and when ever I am out that way........I always have to shop them..........In fact last time I was in Denver......I drove,......and it gave me a real opportunity to shop for many things instead of being limited ny what you can carry on an airplane........Hobby Lobby is my favortie store.......and certainly wish there was one in my area............Don

Corruption in ANY form is a debilitating and crippling sin! But when it involves an entire Nation of devious Politicians, a Government that is greedy, self-serving, and destructive, an Administration comprised of Liberal Socialists, and Anti-American ideology, it is DOOMED! We cannot survive on the "detour" we have been herded onto! Losing Inch by inch, like being forced to crawl across a razor blade into a bucket of alcohol! All the Lib Socialists have to do is to say BOO and we jump back! If this Administration did NOTHNG else questionable, what they allowed in Benghai and then blatantly LIE about it would be ewnough to send them packing! But he has been deceitful, secret, covert, and used subterfuge since he has been in Politics! He "stroked" his clueless and gullible VOTING bases that didn't CARE whether he lied to US at ALL! As long as he kept promising them STUFF, he had their devoted votes! How could a sane, intelligent, common-sense, and American-loving voter give him a pass for his lack of Leadership? Will we EVER find out the truth of why he allowed Benghazi to happen? What is the definition and punishment for treason? Who will "Bell the Cat"? NO one! And when WE fall, so will the ones who depended on HIM to support them! And he will NOT be there for them! He is tired of hearing them whine and complain! While he discards them like used zip-lock bags, HE will take his place as Emperor of our beloved Country! Which within the next four years will be the Headquarters for the New World Order! Which is precisely WHY he was "created"!

Good for Hobby Lobby....we don't have them near where we live, but while visiting FL last month, we shopped there...I love their stores and we will always support them when we can!!!

  • Evermyrtle

I hope that all conservative Christians will be in prayer for Hobby Lobby. If we do they cannot loose.

  • Coda

Every one who likes employment should take a stand also aganist obama care.
its a muslim attack on the freemarket. Remember they want to impose sharia law.
This is totally aganist our society! imagine how islam want muslims to treat their families neighbors and any one who converts. How do they treat women? Homosexuals
will be like the babies they abort.

Thank God for another good Nazarene. Dr. James Dobson is a Nazarene also. Are any of you surprised? We are the fastest growing Christian denomination in the WORLD. (Mormons grow faster because they proselyte, but they are a cult and not Christian).

  • Charlie

I'm not "religious." I would never call myself an atheist, and the Nazerenes, nice people but too conservative for my views.

Regardless, if anyone is being forced to do something they find morally repugnant and it does not serve the greater good (for example, I think most people find killing others in combat troubling to at least some degree, but there is justification,) then by all means fight.

I do wish Hobby Lobby would come to New England. I still have my local shop that I've patronized since I went in a stroller with Dad and will always shop there. Spare Time Shop, Marlborough, Ma., also owned by a family-oriented guy, and by sales, the largest shop in New England.

As to Hobby Lobby, sometimes their merchandising from reports I've heard is a little screwy, but the service and respect the customers are treated with more than makes up for the ticks with stocking. Those 40% coupons are nice, too.

That the Greens are showing enough moral fortitude to stand up to something they feel is wrong and help with others doing so speaks volumes about them.

Good luck and Godspeed. I hope they win. And if they ever do come to Massachusetts, they will have a customer. Perhaps I should look into their franchise option...

What is so very, very sad about all of the evilness that makes Obama who he is and what he is doing to destroy every moral fiber in America is that his followers have absolutely no clue to his evil intentions,,,,zero, naughta',,,none. HOWEVER>>>>>

About 6 months from now watch their reactions to "being taken" by obama .

Most of them will probably even throw away their free "Obama phones " huh?!

I work at the local Hobby Lobby as a Wilton Cake Decorating instructor and have great respect and admiration for the employees and owners of Hobby Lobby. They are a wonderful group of people. I'm glad to be associated with them. May God bless our country and give us the strength as Christians to be witnesses to bring Him honor and glory through these trying times.
