Peace On Earth and the Middle Finger to All Men

Recently, Sarah Childs exercised her alleged First Amendment rights by displaying lights in her yard in the shape of an upraised middle finger. The obscene “Christmas” decoration was a response to an undisclosed dispute between Childs and her neighbors. New Orleans police responded to complaints by citing Childs for public obscenity. She took down the lights until she was contacted by the ever-helpful ACLU, who sued the city for her. They claimed she was merely exercising her First Amendment rights. They argued that, in fact, New Orleans didn’t even have a public obscenity law (If it does, they might want to crack down a little in the Red Light District). Pending a hearing, a New Orleans judge has ruled in Childs’s favor. So she put the lights back up, along with an extra matching hand, then started singing obscene songs about her neighbors from her driveway. I’m really glad we have judges bold enough to rectify such egregious miscarriages of justice. But really, how are lovers of liberty supposed to respond to this?

It seems the only purpose of the First Amendment anymore is to allow nasty people to continue being nasty with impunity. I find it odd that a nativity scene in a public place could be cited for blurring the so called “separation between church and state,” but obscenities of every kind have the full protection of the law. It raises the question: What was the original purpose of the First Amendment? And more importantly, what is its purpose now?

John Adams said that the Constitution was meant for a moral people, and it was fit to govern none else. And this is true. In a land where common sense and common decency aren’t common at all, people who love freedom and liberty are forced to make a very difficult choice: Do we forego our own rights in order to rein in the license and corruption of our neighbors? Or do we put up with the pervasive depravity and lowness of our culture in order to secure for ourselves a bare modicum of self-governance? It’s a difficult choice. In his farewell speech to Congress, Ron Paul pointed out the only real solution to this dilemma: “Changing the government is secondary to promoting a virtuous society.”

Why? Because liberty cannot work without virtue. It becomes corrupted by license. It even becomes license over time. And that is what it has become in our culture. Without a moral people, freedom breaks down. Gun control wouldn’t even be on the table in a virtuous society. We spend so much time trying to get the right people elected. But a perfect government cannot redeem a selfish, immoral people. But at Christmas, if at no other time, let’s remember who can.

  • Devon Sanchez

"Gun control wouldn’t even be on the table in a virtuous society."
Neither would sexual control, drug control or legislation of religious moral value...
And Ron Paul would tell you that himself.

Maybe her neighbor slept with her husband. Who knows, who cares. Whatever the case, she is exercising her first amendment right. End of story.

    • MyronJPoltroonian

Hmm, maybe she had an ongoing feud over her neighbors Christmas displays (on their own private property), tried to have them removed, lost in court and "Exercised" her first amendment "Right".

      • Devon Sanchez

I don't know what is trying to be argued here. What she has done, through the article's information (which is all any of us can speak on), is her right to free speech and is considered "legal" by American federal law.

        • MyronJPoltroonian

Just offering an alternative to your Payton Place scenario and pointing out just where, in the constitution she gets permission to exercise her rights. Rights which, after all, are considered to come from God. Otherwise, they're mere privileges, revokable by man at any time any of the governing authorities so decree.

        • Devon Sanchez

Honestly, the rights of man are inalienable because no one person or persons gave us the right to life (save our birth mother) so they cannot be taken away in the same regard. But congregations of power have and will always attempt to subvert those rights, and the access that any one person or persons has/have to those rights. They are not given by "god", and though they were written that way in the American Constitution it does not make it true of origin. They are natural rights that exist in the Laws of Nature.

        • MyronJPoltroonian

So, have it your way, but for you only. Let the law follow the original intent of the founders of our country and the framers of our constitution and declare for all to see that mere men cannot take our "God Given Rights"away. Otherwise, my dear Horatio, as I thought I stated so clearly before (even for you), they are mere privileges, which may be withdrawn at the whim of the latest tyrant clothed, no doubt, as a benevolent do-gooder acting, as they always do, "For the Children". Remember that freedom, like free will, comes with a price. Eternal vigilance.

        • Devon Sanchez

You argument that god gave us our rights and, due to that understanding, our rights cannot be tossed aside as mere privileges. Then you say, "Remember that freedom, like free will, comes with a price. Eternal vigilance." These two statements contradict each other. How can this be?

  • Adam Cox

"What was the original purpose of the First Amendment? And more importantly, what is its purpose now?"

The purpose of the 1st is not to protect non-controversial speech but to protect speech you disagree with.

    • Carla Virga

The purpose of the first amendment was for a free exchange of ideas, not for protection of degenerates, corruption, or undermining America or American values as a Judeo-Christian country.

      • Adam Cox

So you have decided that people who insult your disgusting religion don't deserve free speech? What if we decide, since we think YOU are the immoral ones , that YOU don't have the right to free speech? It goes both ways. Tread on us, we tread on you.

    • Truth goes 100 MPH

Then why are you so miffed when someone says something negative about Obama? The sword cuts both ways.

  • Adam Cox

What is the POINT of the 1st amendment if the only speech you approve of is the status quo / non controversial speech?

    • Sandra Lee Smith

Free speech is protected; but there is a point of INNER decency that should also be exercised. What is her point? That she doesn't believe in God or Christmas? Fine; but WHY does she need to insult EVERYONE to make that point? And why does she need to do so in a vulgar and rude manner? I would cordially invite her to the place of Biblical punishment!

      • Dark Patriot

Excuse me but that is a very friendly finger if used properly. (Pervert!) When kids would give me the finger in class I would thank them properly for the compliment. It isn't every day that a teen wants to share their wallet with their teacher. If a male, I would compliment them on coming out to everybody in MY classroom. Such an honor for me as a heterosexual educator. "Quick! Lets all sing "Koombuy-a (Rolls Royce)" . If female I'd invoke the no- incest rule. Very few insults cannot be diffused quickly.

Policemen and laws can never replace customs, traditions and moral
values as a means for regulating human behavior. At best, the police and
criminal justice system are the last desperate line of defense for a
civilized society. Our increased reliance on laws to regulate behavior
is a measure of how uncivilized we've become.

    • Screeminmeeme

Randy Renu...Amen. Nothing can compare to the man with a heart changed by the Lord Jesus Christ.

      • Devon Sanchez

Many things can just choose to ignore that fact.

        • Phil1985

          List two.

        • Devon Sanchez

A heart can change when a man sees a child of his own creation for the first time. Or when one hears of a story where a child is cared for by a silverback gorilla after falling into its zoo exhibit. Or when a son realizes that his mother still loves him unconditionally until the day she dies, after finding that he has done something as irregardless as falling asleep at the wheel, crashing it, rendering the car inoperable, and destroying other property in the same accident. Or when the military branch of the United States of America bombs innocent people in faraway lands and then, without request, these people receive aid from private citizens of the United States whom understand their grief, sorrow, and anger from pitiful and misdirected goals of military force. Or when one realizes that we exist on this one planet of a solar system of roughly six billion people in a universe of more stars than all the grains of sand on Earth.

I can think of many more instances that have truly reached my heart as well as many others in this world. If you don't agree with them fine but there are many real things in this world and universe that transcend the imaginary, and many people can see their awesome value.

        • Michael Payne

Devon, what makes any of these things important? Why should a child have any importance? Why shouldn't we suck there brains out, oh wait, we do at a rate of 3500 a day. You see sir, you are asserting a faith, just as Christians do. The only difference is you profess to be god, determining good and evil apart from the one true God. So while we both have faiths, yours is irrational. There is man on his own, and there is Christ. He is King, Christians are His Ambassadors. Sign the peace treaty of unconditional surrender and be a living sacrifice in service to him, or be a dead burnt sacrifice. He cammands you to repent and believe the gospel. You will live by faith, no matter. there is no escaping it, but the question is which faith.

        • Devon Sanchez

These happenings are of no particular importance to all people, but may be of great importance to many. What I have given examples of are instances in which humans experience a great warmth of love and happiness. Nothing more or less than what belief in Jesus Christ may bring to some.

I have great faith. Faith in the natural system that is the cosmos. How is my faith irrational? The cosmos have existed roughly 15 billion years before the common era of man (your "Christian" era), continues to exist now through yours and my lifetime, and will continue to exist for billions of years (if not more) until it, due to its natural laws, collapses unto itself only to burst into another cycle of natural order.

Why would I sign a "peace treaty" that professes my unconditional surrender of existence toward an unseeing and unknowing (imaginary) "god"?? You sign over your security, as a person, to a supernatural being who promises you an afterlife filled with love and affection as long as you worship "his" awesomeness?? And I am the one who has irrational faith? Your faith sounds like blind faith. Blind faith is not honest or true faith.

Nature is god. I am natural, as are you. We are gods of our own controlled environment. There are gods of the greater cosmos that trump our existence. Some of immense scale; greater than any earthly scale of comprehension.

        • George Houchens

Devon, apparently you think the universe and all the interrelatedness of matter and creatures, etc. all happened and exist by pure chance. Your logic leaves no room for intelligent design. Yet there are oodles of examples of intelligent design in life, in this planet, and in the universe. Do you agree?

        • Devon Sanchez

Where did I say all things exist by pure chance? And if by some weird correlational conclusion of intelligent design meaning the natural order of elemental design, then yes I do believe in that.

        • Pebbles

Word salad. What you say is nothing but what you see as intellectual banter, and others reading it see it as nothing at all but a bunch of hogwash.

        • Devon Sanchez

Word salad? Please explain to me what you mean by this.
I see my own words as intellectual banter? Not true.
Others can read it how they want to. If they choose to accept it, that is fine. If not, that is fine. I do not attempt to force others to believe what I believe such as the messianic religions of the old world, especially the Christian bible that espouses only one true "god" and "he" is it. A world before many, many scientific (natural) truths were discovered.

        • Charles Class

Devon, May the Peace of the Lord be always with you.

        • wily

Charles...the peace of the Lord will never be with Devon until he comes to Him first!
Most people who deny the Creator are actually ticked off at Him, so they go try and make a argument against His being! It's total ignorance at it's best!

        • Screeminmeeme

Charles Class......I appreciate your tone. My prayer, though, for those like Devon is that God will give them NO REST OR PEACE until they come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and trust Him as Saviour.

        • DrBarbara

If you are going to pretend to be an intellectual you might want to learn when it is correct to use "who" and when to use "whom." You might also want to read up on our "unseeing" God, as you describe Him. He actually sees everything and knows everything, and in His love for you has given you a free will so that you can deny Him if you so choose. So even YOUR belief system is ordained by God.

        • Devon Sanchez

          "pretend to be an intellectual"
Wow, you got a set of nuts. I am not an intellectual, per say. Though I do try to think rationally, which has completely lost touch with you. Do you really care whether I use who or whom grammatically correct? Or is it just something you could bring up about me, just as the next time I see you misspell a word I can chastise you for doing so. Or how about your using the word "might" when you should have used "may". The next time you want to criticize me, please think again.

So, my god is your god? If it is easy as so, then I say you believe in everything I do because I said so. Do you see how illogical that sounds? What it sounds like to me is complete and utter garbage. The same garbage that Pierce Morgan jabbers on about when he opens his mouth. I never said that your beliefs are not your beliefs because you believed them yet you profess that my beliefs are not of my own accord, but only through your god are they possible. Holy sh!t, that sounds like the work of the satan you and the Christian sheep despise.

        • Screeminmeeme

          Devon......Word salad: Noun
A confused or unintelligible mixture of seemingly random words and phrases, specifically (in psychiatry) as a form of speech indicative of mental illness......It refers to the practice of stringing together words that have no apparent connection to one another--an extreme form of incomprehensible speech. The words may or may not be grammatically correct, but the meaning is hopelessly confused.

          There ya go.

        • Glenn Hendriksen

        • Screeminmeeme

          Pebbles...Exactly...well said.

        • Screeminmeeme

Devon..Wow. More misrepresentation of those who believe. The Christian faith rests firmly on the solid rock of Jesus Christ and the veracity and reliability of His Word.

God declares in His Word that there is NO OTHER GOD, yet you declare that you are. Just a few minutes with your family would confirm that you are not only NOT God but you have feet of clay like the rest of mankind.

YOU are delusional and your world view is incoherent.

        • Devon Sanchez

You can believe this if you want. But I feel that you are clearly very ignorant and delusional yourself. I will not converse with you anymore.

        • Pebbles

Oh, come on. If anyone is ignorant and delusional all you need do is look in the mirror. You won't converse with Screeminmeeme because you do not have a valid argument that will negate what she/he said.

        • Devon Sanchez

(If the mirror is a one-way mirror, I would spot whomever on the opposite side; not myself. And because you responded to me I will give you my argument.)

"faith rests firmly on the solid rock of Jesus Christ and the veracity and
          reliability of His Word."
Not one person has come forth with evidence of Jesus Christ's actual existence or, the most "hotly" contested Christian belief, supernatural existence. Even with a million-dollar reward for such evidence. The Christian bible may have teachings of collectively held virtues and moral values, but this still does not prove "his" supernatural existence which is what the Christian religion rests firmly on.

"God declares in His Word that there is NO OTHER GOD, yet you declare that you are."
Followers of the Christian god continue to punish others for their beliefs based on the statements made in the Christian bible. How would you scientifically, let alone rationally, test this statement if their is no evidence to corroborate "his" real godly existence? I declared that everyone is a "god" unto themselves (i.e. natural rights) within the natural laws of our world. You can define it differently but it is confirmed by our constitution that we have the rights to choose our own path to happiness and success as long as you do not interfere with the rights of others. You are "god" or governor of your own life until you infringe upon another person's government.

"you have feet of clay like the rest of mankind."
I do not believe mankind has feet of clay. So this argument is moot.

"YOU are delusional and your world view is incoherent."
I have argued my sanity. If you choose to not agree, that is your choice. Just as I may think the same of you. My world view is not incoherent, it is built on the science of many great men: Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, and Carl Sagan, to name a few.

        • Glenn Hendriksen

SANCHEZ...................yOu RoCk this UNIVERSE!!!........i, for ONE, am SICK/TIRED of XmAs/nYr's being USED as a................LAME...and i mean LAME.......time of the season these PAST few years......................for 'so-called'.............GOOD TIDINGs........that............emphatically......DOES NOT EXIST!!!.....within the ONCE great nation known as AMERICA anyway.....................'nuff said'.....

        • Screeminmeeme

          Devon..Wow, again.

You are not seriously arguing that there was a person of historical veracity named Jesus Christ, are you? Aside from the many corroberating first person witness accounts, there are many extra-biblical accounts (some vehemently opposed to the faith) what give credence to his existence.

Christians punish no one, including those who disapprove of Jesus Christ, like yourself. That's a red herring. Nice try.

Do you know what it means to have feet of clay? It refers to the fallibility of mankind......there is NO MAN who is infallible, and in spite of your substantial sanctimonious declarations, that includes you, Devon.

Your last sentence explains it all. You are ta blind man following blind men with God-given brilliance who denied their own Creator. Their beliefs were just as incoherent as yours. Two of them have already met their Maker and are now convinced of His existence and His RIGHT to judge them.

Again...your world view is built on the sinking sand of self-deception and your explanations are so much baloney.

        • Rich

The Ten Commandments have done much to help create peace and happiness in the world. Take each commandment and compare it with today's world and see for yourself why we are in trouble like we are.

One day you will find out who is right and it will be to late for somebody. So if you are right we all will be in your cosmos, however, if you are wrong you go to hell and we go to our home in heaven. I take that you don't celebrate CHRISTMAS. Because that is the birth of CHRIST and you don't believe in HIM. This celebration is about CHRIST only.

        • Devon Sanchez

"This celebration is about CHRIST only."
No, it is not. I do not celebrate Christmas as Christians do. I celebrate the congregation of family and friends, the love that brings them together, and the winter season itself.

        • Screeminmeeme

Devon....Christians know that the 25th is not Christ's birthday..but it is the time chosen years ago to memorialize His birth because it meant God took on human flesh for the sole purpose of dying for wretched mankind.

Christians celebrate the incarnation of Christ. You can celebrate whatever you choose and no Christian cares about stopping you. Christians DO care about the suppression of their right to worship the God of their choosing in the way that they choose.

        • Claims1

"We are Gods of our own controlled environment". You believe that MAN is the highest and most intelligent form existing in what you refer to as "the laws of nature", and whether you like it or not, you have subjected yourself to the very laws of nature that acknowledge a superior form of intelligence. Your greatest problem is your refusal to admit that man is not the answer: He is the problem, but man will not accept that. Question - who are these "several gods"? Identify?

        • Devon Sanchez

"You believe that MAN is the highest and most intelligent form existing in what you refer to as "the laws of nature""
I know man to be the highest conscious being known in our understanding of the universe.

"acknowledge a superior form of intelligence."
By the laws of nature and power of odds, there would be great conscious beings, such as ourselves, elsewhere in the billions (if not more) of galaxies among the trillions of stars that gravitationally hold their planets in orbit.

          ""several gods"? Identify?"
The elemental genius that is nature. These "godly" entities exist, you need only view them through a telescope to see their glory and cosmic genius.

        • Screeminmeeme

Devon.....There IS NO ''genius'' in evolutionary processes. You are deluded.

        • Michael Payne

By the way, there are no brute facts, or facts that speak for themselves. Every time you, me, or anyone else looks at data, we bring ten thousand+ presuppositions, what you might call faith assumptions to interpret the data. That is why the Christian deckares the child in the womb is someone made in the image of God and worthy of life, and the child butchers bring there view that they are not humanbs yet, but are some biological mush, that is no more worthy of life than a house fly. That taken consistantly makes Hitler and Stalin heroes, that rid the world of the less fit. With your denial of the one true God, you have no transcendent truth and are left to... yourself.

        • Devon Sanchez

Analysis of real data does not presume life of the supernatural order.

        • diverjimk

Also analysis of real data does not not presume life of the supernatural order. So, what's your point?

        • Devon Sanchez

I will correct what I wrote to suit your response: Real data cannot prove supernatural order.

It is safe to assume that you don't have a brain since nobody have ever seen it.

        • Devon Sanchez

I hope, for your sake, not one person actually confirms your unfounded analytical conclusion.

If your hate for America is so great, why not return to your own country? We have an ample supply of filthy, dirty, thieving mexicans here already.

        • Devon Sanchez

I was unaware of my hatred for America. I don't believe I said anything negative about the USA. Also, I don't own a country or belong to a country. If you are implying I was born in Mexico, then you are wrong. I was born in the USA but my ancestors came from many different places in Europe (Spain being one of the countries).

        • Raymond
        • Devon Sanchez

Is this supposed to make me scared? Am I to fear the almighty power of the supernatural world of heaven and hell?

        • Michael Payne

heartless, what does that mean? You see, without God, ther is no heartlessness, there is no meaning, there is no right or wrong. You gargled and killed millions of bacteria, adam lanza gargled 20 children last week. That is wicked what he did, and worthy of death, yet, by what standard? You are living on Christian capitol. Your not eating your neighbor, because of Christendom. When Cortez sat down to eat the first meal with the Aztec ruler Montezuma. Montezuma had a young man brought in and blessed the meal by slicing his throat and sprinkling his blood on the meal. The ten million dollar question: why was this wrong? It has been done for ages. Why have 50+ million babies been slaughtered in abortion mills since 1973? Because of a rejection of Christianity. As we tattoo up, burn our dead, take off our clothes, and promote the perversion of sodomy, what are we gonna do when people start going in the buff to walmart. Or what are we gonna do when the family in the checkout line in front of us is having a consensual, incestual orgy and offers us to join in? Think it can't happen? if not, why not? History is on my side of the argument. Repent and believe. Then again, the bigger problem is not the scoffers like you, it is my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ that don't believe we are to wield influence, but we are to sit back and tell people to get on the ark, but we are to do nothing to shore up the whole in the uss earth, Why, a pernicious, 180 year old doctrine that has permeated the church, that is not historical, nor biblical. Christians read: by this standard by greg bahnsen online for free.

        • Screeminmeeme

Michael Payne...Amen to your cogent response to the bankrupt declarations of Devon, who has admitted to being a pantheist. Like many others with a reprobate heart and a seared conscience, he has fashioned his own complex belief system which sits firmly on the sinking sand of self-deception.

And I also agree with you. Christians are to be salt and light in this present evil world.....we are to actively RESIST evil. This prevalent attitude of capitulation is alien to Christianity but has resulted because many Christians are :

          1.Biblically illiterate

          2. Too concerned about what the world thinks, and have responded to it with political correctness instead of with truth.

          3. Are in bondage to fear.

          4. Have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof and are playing church instead BEING the church, the Body of Christ.

          5. Have forgotten that we ought to obey God and not men...and having done all, to stand.

        • Devon Sanchez

Heartless, in the way I used it with quotations, would symbolize the rejection of emotional content that all human beings experience. Having a heart or the emotions associated with a heart has absolutely nothing to do with a Christian god.

"Your not eating your neighbor, because of Christendom."
Wrong, I don't eat my neighbor because of many reasons. Christianity has nothing to do with it. ( I can give you those reasons if you want them.)

"Montezuma had a young man brought in and blessed the meal by slicing his throat and sprinkling his blood on the meal."
Supposing this is true, he had this done because the young man was most likely a war-time enemy captive or a disrespectful person of their laws and this was traditional in their society to exhibit a number of qualities.

"adam lanza gargled 20 children last week"
Wrong, he shot and killed 20 children, 7 adults and himself with a gun.

          "abortion mills"
You will have to explain to me what these are.

          "since 1973"
Abortion has existed throughout man's existence.

"tattoo up, burn our dead, take off our clothes"
Many adamant Christian followers tattoo their bodies. I do not believe this goes against any Christian teaching. Burning the dead goes against Christian teachings? And taking one's clothes off? How would one consummate a marriage in Christian circles? I guess through the zipper and under the skirt?

"what are we gonna do when people start going in the buff to walmart."
I do not know what this means.

"Think it can't happen? if not, why not?"
You postulate its happening. But why would it happen? It is normal in human society? Even in stateless societies? History shows us this is not the case.

Do you think you can reach a non believer by ridicule? I very much doubt it, if anything you merely solidify a non believers, non belief by treating them with derision. I would believe that it would be best not to respond so venomously toward them but to treat them with patience and respect.

So he doesn't believe the way you do, do you like it when others treat you this way over your beliefs? Treat others as you would like to be treated. I honestly believe that.

It hurts me to see people treat unbelievers this way as it is not a good way to represent G-dly beliefs. To show them the same patience that G-d shows you for your sins, though it can be difficult is the true show of faith. Let him come to see you in your beliefs as good and gentle people rather than those that would show him disturbing pictures and make fun of him.

You got that right. For every Natural Right we have (only a very few of them are part of the Constitution; the 9th Amendment says so), there's also a corresponding responsibility in the lawful exercise of that Right. The only restrictions on any Right is to not violate someone else's equal Rights.

In a free society with Free Speech, SOMEONE is bound to take offense at something they see or hear...No one is obligated to look or listen and they can simply look away or close their ears, but they ARE obligated to NOT violate someone else's Right to express themselves.

With regards to the "First Amendment" there has to be a rational distinction between 'right' and 'wrong.' For example, several years ago the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the ACLU that the arrest of the person burning the American Flag in public, violated his 1st Amendment rights as a "self expression." In my view, this meant that the American Flag being the property of the American people can be burned in defiance as a "self expression." That being the case, then it would be legal for the neighbors to burn down Sarah Childs' obscene and objectionable display of our nation's traditional celebration of Christmas as a "self expression?" Would using foul language in public against a lady be alright under the clause of "self expression" under the 1st Amendment? Would that be right or wrong? Or would the U.S. Supreme Court bow down to the ACLU? Why not? The ACLU has already led this nation's culture towards deterioration.

MSGT JOHN CORREA.....Excellent questions and comments. My thoughts exactly about the Sarah Childs incident. You're being way too rational for the godless leftists on this blog.

      • Devon Sanchez

When you purchase an American flag or take ownership of one by transfer or construction, you then have the right to do anything to that property unless you violate someone else's property in the process.

"Rehnquist argues forcefully that the American flag is special in what it communicates; however, he does not explain why this gives government the authority to prevent people from using its specialness to communicate strong messages which the government doesn’t approve of. Nowhere does he cite a basis for governmental authority to single out a particular meaning for the American flag to be protected by preventing other meanings or attitudes from being physically expressed."

"A person’s American flag is private property. If someone burns a flag which they purchased or made out of raw materials which they own, they aren’t defacing public property and they won’t be denying others the ability to enjoy or get something out of a flag. The justifications for protecting a public memorial cannot be applied to privately own flags; thus there is no way to indirectly protect the preferred “meaning” of the flag through bans on physical defacement."

        • Claims1

Whoa, cowboy!!! The "natural rights of man" are not protected by the US Federal Government; They are protected by the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

        • Devon Sanchez

          I am not a cowboy.
The US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence define the United States Federal Government. So by intrinsic value, my statement remains valid.

    • Michael Payne

Well said Randy. The problem in Washington is a reflection of our current apostate beliefs. While it is true that people must be self governed, the government not only has a right, but an obligation to legislate morality. All laws are an imposition of morality or procedural to a moral principal and Romans 13 calls the civil magistrate a minister of justice. There job is to wield the sword against evil doers. That is a sanction that makes life bearable for everyone else. These sanctions are always negative and cannot be the perversion of taking care of your neighbor by government coercion. Additionally, the magistrate cannot determine good and evil for himself. He is God's minister. Now, as to every law being religious. If we put up a stop sign, it is because we BELIEVE that life and property have value. Prove it? You could sell your computer for a dollar! So that proves value of property! Really? Let me see the dollar. What gives it value? FAITH! That goes for gold, diamonds, etc... Before the 19th century we had no prisons. If someone ripped you off, they had to pay you back with a bonus for your trouble. That was biblical and that deterred wickedness. However, there was a Christian consensus among the masses. That is why our Constitution is toilet paper to most men on both sides of the isle today. They have lost the faith that backed it up.

      • Devon Sanchez

"the government not only has a right, but an obligation to legislate morality."

Where would our government obtain such "righteous" authority as it were designed?
The USSR and Maoist China legislated morality. Can you give me any positive results of institutionalized morality under either regime?

      • Devon Sanchez

"Before the 19th century we had no prisons."
Prisons existed before the 19th century.

"If someone ripped you off, they had to pay you back with a bonus for your trouble."
In law, it is called damages; payment to a person as compensation of loss or injury. It still exists today and it is not of biblical origin.

"Santa Claus" is based on St Nicholas, not Odin.

Santa Claus is a Western rendition of the original Pagan traditions of Germanic tribes that were "Christianized" after conquest.

In a world of respect and moral codes the book of laws/rules and regulations would be minimal, as the simple statement do unto others as you would have them do unto you is straight forward and easy to understand.

In today's world of people taking offense with everything, so it seems, and being offensive as much as possible, we have lawyers writing more and more rules to define how people act, and that provides the loop holes that we see.

Sad situation, for all, truly sad and must have our founders looking down on us and weeping at what we have become and how far we have strayed from their intentions, intentions put into action, to create something wonderful, based on people pledging their lives, liberties and sacred honor to accomplish.

Something that could never be done today as lawyers would be looking to parse those phrases into meaningless jibberish.

    • Devon Sanchez

I agree with your conclusion, but not how you got there.

  • Pebbles

My husband, a New Orleans native, and I moved out of the New Orleans area recently because of things such as this and other happenings that would make your hair curl. NO is a great place in and of itself, and has many wonderful people, many of whom are our friends, and they complain about things like this all of the time. Too bad that a relatively small factor of people have to ruin it for everyone else. Incidents such as this show the nastiness and hatefulness that run rampant throughout the world these days. Satan surely is at work but God is always watching and is in complete control.

    • danimal

I lived in New Orleans for 3 years, and just loved the city and the culture, but most of the people there suck, are un-educated, lazy, and have no shame, When the hurricane went through, that was Gods way of flushing the toilet, too bad some of the crap stuck to the bowl

      • Pebbles

You are correct. We were there during Katrina and had to leave for two months upon hearing the leevees were about to break. Thankfully we had a friend that stayed in our house after losing his own, so we were safe from random break ins. However, many of our friends were not that lucky. I stopped going into the French Quarter after returning due to the high rate of crime, and the influx of criminals. We were even in Houston for a while when trying to return. Plane connections were difficult. After registering and giving our ID's, the black lady that checked us in, although very nice, said that if they had heard we were from NO before we got there, we would have been told they had zero rooms. It seems the welfare element that actually made it to Houston were stealing, doping, breaking up the rooms, and making general nuisances of themselves, and that is putting it mildly. As far as Houston was concerned, they couldn't get rid of them fast enough. That is the element that went back to NO, the same element that puts a middle finger in lights on her lawn.

        • danimal

I lived off of Orleans Ave by City Park, and loved being about 10 min. from the French Quarter and Fats City, I,m glad you and your family got out safe

I agree with one statement in this article. Our society has sunk so low because of the Liberal analogy of our first amendment that it makes me sick. If the world should be stripped of evil it should be the Liberals and the Democratic party the first ones to go.

There is no such thing as the Democratic party.its better know as the communist party.

"John Adams said that the Constitution was meant for a moral people, and it was fit to govern none else."

Any nation's constitution and government benefits from moral Christian citizens, even those nations whose constitution are not based upon Yahweh's morality as found in His perfect law and altogether righteous judgments (Psalm 19:7-9) - such as the United States of America. However, when such constitutions are not based upon Yahweh's law, it is inevitable that such nations will become more and more immoral and corrupt, being they do not have a Biblical standard to fall back upon. Case in point, the United States of America today.

Adams quote is often employed in trying to make the Constitution a Biblically compatible document-- NOT HARDLY! Do not overlook that Adams did not specify Christianity. Adams emphasized that the same “moral liberty resides in Hindoos and Mohametans, as well as in Christians” (Letter no. 13 to John Taylor (1814), in “Works of John Adams,” 6:474.)

He once asked, “Where is to be found theology more orthodox or phylosophy [sic] more profound than in the introduction to the [Hindu] Shast[r]a?” (John Adams, December 25, 1813, letter to Jefferson, in “Adams-Jefferson Letters,” 2:412.)

moral law (His commandments, statutes, and judgments). Take our Constitution

The ACLU responds to calls from right wing, left wing, no wing. They have defended NAZIS, atheists, Christians, etc. try looking up some of the suits they have advocated. There is a separation of Church state. If you do not like that, work to get it changed. The Constitution has changed over the years just like guns have evolved from miscast to assault rifles. We are advocating the protection of any gun as part of our second amendment right. The ACLU works to protect 1st Amendment and other sacred rights. Try to be educated about what you hate.

    • Carla Virga

The ACLU was founded by Communists and almost always takes on cases that promote the Communist goals as posted at: and

Have you seen the ACLU helping anyone keep their property rights or just cases where they help degenerates or abominations fight for their rights against the rights of a moral society?

      • Dark Patriot

The Axxhole CLU had a textbook perfect case with my brother. But!!! He was considered white and it was a female that was sexually harassing him so they said that it was too bad he wasn't black. Sorry! No help from them.

Why do you mention separation of church and state? Give a verbatim from the text of the Constitution where such a statement is made. Could not do it, did not think so.

      • Devon Sanchez

Besides the constitution supporting individually autonomous governorship, there is no statement in the Constitution defining a church of the state so one does not exist and one can safely say that there is a separation of church and state.

  • KittyKittyKit

We don't need an Amendment to the Constitution PROTECTING our right to speak nice and polite. We may not like how she's using her "freedom of speech" RIGHT, but it is her RIGHT and I will defend with my life her RIGHT to say it.
It does NOT mean there will not be repercussions to her vulgarity, there will be. The PRIVATE SECTOR can shun her and ignore her or make fun of her and humiliate her, if they want to.........that is THEIR RIGHT for the POLICE............they have NO RIGHT to prevent this. The LAW is there to PREVENT the government, at all levels, from interfering as long as it is just all NON-VIOLENT communications.

    • Bob K.

We have all kinds of laws that prevent certain kinds of speech. Are you against these laws, you should be. But you are not, right! Either we have freedom of speech or we don't. You can't pick and choose. Defend it with your life...yeah right.

      • KittyKittyKit

Your response makes absolutely no sense. Double check what you're saying before posting so a person can at least have a chance to agree or disagree.
        What are you saying????

    • Tom T

Then you agree that we should be happy to allow our schools to teach communism, socialism, the koran, homosexual perversion, your stance is that it is their right to speak of these things an teach the children without interference from parents who object. Which of these perversions of freedom and decency do you belong to?

      • Devon Sanchez

If someone would voluntarily choose to send their child to such an institution, then, yes, one should be allowed to do this, for it is ultimately their choice.

If someone or a child is forced to accept such an education as "publicly ordained" then, no, it should not be allowed because this is not freedom of choice because parents (i.e. consumers) have a right to choose how their money is spent on the education of their child.

      • KittyKittyKit

Why did you leave out teaching CHRISTIANITY, and the Faith of our Founding Fathers and how it is SUPERIOR to ALL the other "isms".

The problem is NOT that the things we DISAGREE with are being taught, but that which is FOUNDATIONAL to WHO and WHAT makse REAL AMERICANS, "real" Americans HAS BEEN ELIMINATED from the cirriculum!!

PARENTAL INTERFERENCE should take place from whatever perspective you believe interference by parents is needed.

Those who are denying the RIGHTS OF FREE SPEECH to parents when they want to stand up for our Constitutional RIGHTS, and principles, should be charged with TREASON, arrested, and tried in court. NOT for what they SAID but for what the DID and DO in UNLAWFULLY denying the RIGHTS of other CITIZENS to their FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

We as REAL AMERICANS know the SUPERIOR position of our FOUNDING and need NEVER FEAR the other ideologies being taught as long as the pros and cons are CLEARLY made distinct through undeniable illustrations of the implementation of the other ideologies and WHY America is ALWAYS called on to BAIL OUT the citizens of other countries under their "un-American" type of governmental and educational rule.

YOU CAN BET other countries DO NOT teach the American form of Government to THEIR students. It would lead to the overthrow of their MASSIVE governments and provide freedom for their citizens. INSTEAD, we ERRANTLY allow their ideologies to be taught to our children WITHOUT proper EXPLANATION and detail as to the ruinous end of UN-AMERICAN ideologies WHICH IS FOUNDED IN CHRISTIANITY.

  • Tim

And it will never be reversed. Moral people with their own personal responsibility must have their own country or rid this one of all of the vermin destroying our children and society at large.

  • Carla Virga

When man won't govern himself, the government will step in.

    • Devon Sanchez

I am trying to understand what you mean by this statement.

Would you be implying that man has to be governed? And if not decisively by one's own accord, then it must be forced upon all via central authority?

  • fredh

What year did America really start to go to hell. 1972 , women and soon to be mothers , burnt their bras and mothers stay in the workforce after having a baby . Federal government told women you are to valuable to stay home and raise your children. All of a sudden women had to have a college degree, then her career was more important then being a mother. Men were force to compete with a women for a job, so he could support his wife who choose to stay home. Government created the problem by given women minority status in 1964, then congress passed over 400 laws to empower women 1964 to 2011. Then in 1972 congress pass affirmative action and quotas. Now corporations could no longer hire the best people for a job, so the corporation started to move overseas. Women's Role
Women weren't made to be passionate sex partners. There mission in life
is to be mothers, which also means custodian of morality, and music,
    religion, and culture.
That's why the Almighty endowed them with just erotic fervor to want a
husband, but with a greater urged to care for children, and engage in

This is but more of what comes from the non-Biblical First Amendment:

"...The First Amendment’s freedom of religion and speech may appear innocuous. But is it harmless to give sodomites, infanticide advocates, and Satanists the right to promote their wicked agendas? Is it harmless to provide a platform for non-Christians and even antichrists to promote their heresies?

    'But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come;
but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!' (Matthew 18:6-7)

"It’s naive to think people have not lost their faith to atheists or been converted to cults as a result of providing them the opportunity to proselytize...."

I've said it before and I'll say it again: AMORALITY is the root of most of our problems in this nation! Tolerance for amorality is NOT tolerance but FOLLY! It's destructive to society and to individuals as well. Even adults require "limits" but those should come from a properly trained and exercised CONSCIENCE within, not from extrinsic laws necessarily. Of course we need some laws as a "framework" because we ARE human, therefore fallible; but it's not the minutia of laws as we now have that we need so much as consciences NOT numbed by the flood of amoral behaviors and violence bombarding us continually through media; often without depiction of appropriate consequences!

  • bowtonoone2

The problems cited in this article are the product of an ever increasing moral decline throughout our country since the 60's when it was all "free love" (aka: free sex) and the "age of enlightenment"...........all this has done is corrupted our society where there are no longer any morals, no accountability and responsibility, no sense of right and wrong.
We once said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning in school, and prayer and God were a part of our everyday lives. Children were taught the Golden Rule. Mothers and fathers remained together.......married........and honored their marriage vows. Now the kids are taught that it is just dandy to have sex starting at 12 or 13 yrs of age and that if you got pregnant, you just had an abortion as a means of birth control. Mothers taught birth control to their daughters and it was abstinence until marriage. Families ate dinner together at the table every night and talked about all kinds of things. We laughed about those times together later in life.
Now the kids know nothing of morality, accountability, responsibility. They do not know that if they are afforded the opportunity to go college it is because we OWE them this and then when they get out with a mountain of debt, we OWE it to them to pay it off. And then they think they can walk into an office job making 6 figures with great bennies right off the bat.
And when these spoiled brats don't get what they feel we OWE them, they have temper tantrums like when they were two yrs old.
Bad times may be coming for these brats. I wonder how many will actually survive obama's America.

    • Dark Patriot

I'm sorry! This isn't fair. I see inner city young adults changing this around. You won't see them because they are working hard hours and most of their pay goes to taxes. A moral society can only be created from the home. When parents refuse to teach their children moral values the government takes over and teaches godless values. Progressives are only interested in selfish "what's in it for me" values. They prize personal and carnal satisfaction over community and righteous behaviors. When the family is broken so is society.

  • Laura Rambeau Lee

    Excellent commentary! My sentiments exactly!

  • Mark Biolchino

When nothing is wrong then everything is right.

    • MyronJPoltroonian

Heh, heh, heh. Reminds me of a line from long forgotten science fiction novel I read some 50+ years ago. The line in question is: "Everything not forbidden is mandatory".

  • Dark Patriot

I want this lady as my neighbor. She sounds like fun. I'm good at writing obscene songs. I'd write about my neighbors but except for one yard nazi they all rock. Merry Christmas to all of them.

  • oleinwi

Every great civilization of the past began to lose its moral compass, generally right before they collapsed...May God help us all.

  • Mad Mike

Vurtue, must be taught at home. It all begins with teaching a child that others are as important as they are. If we teach them to respect the rights and property of others, we eliminate an entire host of anti-social behaviors. Current and past generations have not been taught these lessons. And we, are all now "paying the price of neglect" with generations of americans caring about only themselves. This fits nicely into the democrat platform of "free money", (endless unemployment checks), millions addicted to "food stamps", welefare that has become a "government plantation" of robbing Peter to pay Paul. (with Paul being a democrat voter). This is a recipe for a national economic collapse. A nation of "takers" are a nation of "paracites". Paracites always consume their "host" and both die. Is that the direction we want for our children's future? Living for just the "now", (as most politicians are doing), will never end well. Where are the "adults"?

  • Richard_B

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" Only Congress can make laws yet judges, in effect, passed laws to stop prayer in public schools. Have the morals of our youth improved since prayer was banned?

When I was in public school we said the Pledge Of Allegiance and prayed daily. We could also get our behind hit with a board which was referred to as "The Board of Education" Although I don't believe my generation was as moral as my parent's generation, I have no doubt that it was far more moral than todays youth.

  • samtman

You would think that even this militant christian far to right wing posting would have something nice to say about America on Christmas day, dedicated to the Prince of Peace, the best country in the world who seek peace and freedom from gun fire and freedom of and from militant religion.

    • MyronJPoltroonian

Oh what a clever lever Ye be. So, those: " ... who seek peace and freedom from gun fire and freedom of and from militant religion ... .", eh? Well, as I look at it, there'll be freedom from gunfire (other than hunting, target, proficiency training and other legitimate purposes) when the criminals amongst us actually cease being criminals and lay down their arms. As to militant religion, let the "Religion of Peace", cease it's violent Jihad against the rest of humanity and maybe we'll all sing Kumbayah together.

  • fwiw

"I find it odd that a nativity scene in a public place could be cited for blurring the so called “separation between church and state,” but obscenities of every kind have the full protection of the law"
Very good, thought-provoking article. I especially agree with the above quote.
Another example: NAMBLA can post how to kidnap, molest, and get away on their website. Also courtesy of the ACLU pro bono. Feel a lot like 1984. Orwell's not sure if he's happy.

  • heritage rider

seems funny how these being hide behind the first amendment yet the take no responsability for what they say or do so how do they hide or cover for their lack of decency or the thought and beleifs of other since we are supposed to be so tolerent of morons

  • Truth goes 100 MPH

This was her way of saying "Obama is number #1"

  • John Patrick

Amazing that the Nativity Scene is called offensive but put up decorations in the form of the middle finger perfectly acceable. The hell with the ACLU.

  • Dems_suk

I hope she takes a picture of her lights and sends a picture to the White house. It is the only picture "zero" deserves!

  • Stealrth

People are generally idiots who will reap what they sew...

    • MyronJPoltroonian

(I hate to do this, but my "Punster" side's a' showin'.) So, she's got it all sewn up, has she? Just a' sowin' the seeds o' discontent, she is.

  • Barbara Wildfong Blackwood

The Constitution defines your rights, The Ten Commandments define right and wrong, your morals and ethics define you, taken as a whole they all work together. Leave one of them out and you have anarchy.

  • MyronJPoltroonian

As I've said for years now, "If common sense were, there'd be more of it."

  • LibsAreSick&Twisted

If the ACLU is involved then you KNOW it is going to be something low and nasty, immoral and obscene. Bet you if that FINGER was across the street ANY of our SCOTUS members or members of Congress that there'd be no free speech going on BUT QUICK.

  • Jerry G

The First Amendment was written to protect unpopular speech. I doubt it was meant to protect obscene or scurrilous speech. But as our society has descended into the immoral mess that it is in today the obscene has replaced the unpopular. Any unpopular voice is descended upon with obscenity .Just post a criticism of Obama and see the result.

    • MyronJPoltroonian

Actually, it was written to protect all speech, especially political speech. A concept lost on today's "Politically Correct Word Police".

  • larryincamden

Has anyone ever noticed that there is only one right in the Bill of Rights that it says can not be infringed? What right has been infringed ? All others are being expanded.

  • bananafanafo

Would it be a HATE CRIME to do that to your neighbor?

  • jime1

Excellent article ! For those who might not thinks so, the truth is very often a really bitter pill to swallow.

  • Brabado

Whenever a citizen comes out with "an obsene antick", which offends the rest of the COMMUNITY, the ACLU gets involved, and a probably Progressive Judge gets involved, and allows this immoral act to continue, it reminds me an old saying:

    • Appy

The ACLU was organized to protect Communists in America during a time when being a Communist was not in vogue as it is today. The ACLU has rarely defended anyone with common sense or Christians or anyone denied their constitutional rights according to the Constitution and not according to some activist judge's and lawyer's interpretation..

I call the ACLU the American Communist Lawyers Union and as far as I'm concerned the name is fitting.

  • John

This woman really needs to grow up! She is so immature! She must not have gotten enough attention when she was a kid, probably wasn't spanked either!

  • StarDust Dolittle

The only laws that our corrupt government will inforce is anything to do with muslims. If all the neighbors were muslim, this woman may have been beheaded. And really this person is just another scum off the barrel. She will get her reward from a higher judge.

  • Harold

    Judges and fellow commies.

For4 yrs. I have heard of the President being impeached and now I am hearing it all over again. Why not get your facts together before you open your big mouths!

Secular jews hate Christmas. Secular jews are the core of the ACLJew. It's time to send them packing.

  • notosharia

It doesn't matter what her beef is -that she acts like a PUTZ puts her in an unlikable category by pulling a stunt like this shows there is more wrong with her than meets the eye!

  • RightGunner

In a companion conservative site that reported about a newspaper that printed names and addresses of gun licensee’s, I made the suggestion that they respond by placing an Ad in the same paper. The ad will point out that criminals can use the list of addresses to choose those where they will be shot or addresses where they are most likely to succeed in their criminal activity.

In the same vein, in this report here the action is less vicious, and a humorous response is appropriate. Perhaps the houses on both sides of the offending house can put a sideways hand with an appropriate finger pointing to the offending house and captioned “We live next to stupid”.

  • Joe

I am a die hard conservative and I go to church every Sunday, but nobody has to pay attention to this. It is her right to put it up. That's America, love it or leave it. It's what my father fought for in WWII. We may not agree with it, but thank God we have the right. The middle finger is part of God's creation. It was man who deemed it obscene.

  • wtram46

Isn't the ACLU always in the center of problems like this??? Just as the Reverends are always a source of trouble--they all flock together!! All of them are -ssholes!!!

  • mwl

I guess when the stupid bitches house burns down we can blame it on her devil worship. Satanic gatherings with obama, biden, pelosi, reid, holder.
This women hates Christmas and Christianity spouts an atheist view. And is so profoundly vicious against Christmas. I say good job...she has dedicated her life to God. Now we know and have a complete circle. She admits there is a GOD and she has taken a stand against him. Fantastic. I always feel better when the other side makes my case for me. Its always good to know your enemies.
    God Bless, Merry Christmas

"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together

Take a picture and send it to the White House. This is what Obama is doing to AMERICA.

You are wrong. They both base their beliefs in real data and the science used to reach their educated conclusions/data points.

The people across the street should put a sign indicating to criminals that she does not have a gun. Tell them to go and take whatever they want while their curtains are close. Another treatment is for others to stop looking or addressing her in any form. Isolation works very well.

    • Devon Sanchez

"Tell them to go and take whatever they want while their curtains are close."
Becoming an accomplice of violence/theft by inciting the action is punishable.

  • Silas Longshot

We are truly in our current condition from lack of Christian morals, or any decent morals if you wish to be anti-Christian. That has been carefully and willfully weeded out of our 'education system' for the direct purpose of this current total lack of morals, respect, even good judgement that we see in the USA today. Makes the tear down and destruction of the USA and 'reformation' into socialism soooo much easier when the country is fractured into groups against groups, splintered right down to neighbor vs neighbor.

  • Adelle M Blackman

Only Jesus can change lives and hearts and it is good to know that more and more are coming to HIM. I pray we take back this country one person at a time. Our Republican Club is dedicated to this. We are there first to honor the one who gave us this great country. If others don't like it they don't have to join.

  • RicC

The first Amendment protects the rights of free speech. Our founding fathers had no intension on protecting immoral acts. They believed in God and moral causes, not corruption and pornsgraphy.

  • Bravo Two Six

And, what about the practice of the personal destruction ads seen from the DNC and Dem candidates. They, also, received some kind of misplaced immunity. We all need to be very careful of what this country is becoming. We need to find a way to combat it, or we are lost.

  • Meritocrat

No Lib will see anything wrong with this stupid woman's heinous acts, of course, unless there were the image of the Quran in lights next to the finger. THEN "free speech" would take on a whole new meaning to these two-faced phonies....

  • HadEnuf

The communist revolution is in full swing and must be stopped, the ole fashion way!

    • daves

Obscenities are one of the dumbest things invented by humans. To think there is something wrong with showing you middle finger to someone is silly. And why do we invent words and then tell our children not to say them?

We all need to grow up a little and take the power out of these words and gestures by no longer being offended or punishing people for using them.

  • Howard Grant

Evil happens because good people allow it to happen.

  • J Wilson

Nope! Sorry.... Piers Morgan says that the Second Amendement Right to Keep and Bear Arms is limited to Muskets.... SO... Ms. Childs cannot use electrical appliances to express First Amendment Right to Free Expression.... electric Christmas lights did not exist when the Framers put that amendment in the Constitution.

  • Prisonkeeper

As I wrote, Sarah deserves to receive for Christmas, 1 gallon of gasoline and a Bic lighter. Sarah can set herself on fire so that she can hit the high notes. Problem solved and another believer in Justice created. You don't need to thank me. Merry Christmas ( belated gifts are still effective) as far as the judge goes, they are too stupid to realize hey are fire, hence making the use of gasoline a waste.
