Nanny Bloomberg Takes Away Hospital Painkillers

Thank goodness government is getting more involved in health care so we can finally put a stop to sick and injured people using too many painkillers.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced this week that the city is going to sharply restrict supplies of painkillers at the city's emergency rooms to combat a rampant addiction problem.

Yours, not his.

I have to clarify that point, because otherwise you may have the impression that "Nanny Michael" is addicted to power, and being a bit of a bully. ...

"The city hospitals we control," he said Friday in response to critics, "so … we’re going to do it and we’re urging all of the other hospitals to do it, voluntary guidelines. Somebody said, oh, somebody wrote, 'Oh then maybe there won’t be enough painkillers for the poor who use the emergency rooms as their primary care doctor.'

"Number one, there’s no evidence of that. Number two, supposing it is really true, so you didn’t get enough painkillers and you did have to suffer a little bit. The other side of the coin is people are dying and there’s nothing perfect. … Come on, this is a very big problem."

This very big problem, according to Bloomberg, is that people with afflictions like broken bones are being prescribed more painkillers than they need, and that leads to them either getting addicted, selling the drugs on the street or giving them to kids to get high.

I assume he "knows" this because of his own sordid past, during which he lived in a box on the mean streets doing Vicadin and getting to know all the Oxycontin dealers by first name.

"If you break a leg, you’re going to be in pain, nothing wrong with getting something that reduces the pain. But if you get 20 days' worth of pills and you only need them three days, there’s 17 days sitting there. Invariably some of the kids are going to find them, or you’re going to take them and get you addicted."

I had a lot of liberal teachers growing up, and I recall being taught that the reason our criminal justice system presumed innocence is because it is better that one criminal go free than that an innocent man be imprisoned.

Shouldn't there be a similar principle in medicine? It's better to risk one person getting too many painkillers than that someone who needs them should go wanting?

But Bloomberg has long since proved that nothing can happen in New York without him getting a slice of it. He has already broken the backs of the trans fat mafia and super-size soda pimps; it's high time to go after the black market painkiller trade.

According to Bloomberg, the overprescription of painkillers has led to a rise in violent crimes as well, as no-goods have been hanging around pharmacies to ambush patients.

"You see there’s a lot more hold-ups of pharmacies, people getting held up as they walk out of pharmacies. What are they all about? They’re not trying to steal your shaving cream or toothpaste at the point of a gun. They want these drugs."

Of course, the city could allow people to carry guns to defend themselves, but that would be too easy and would allow people to be responsible for themselves.

Much better to ban medicine. Besides, where's the fun of electing a liberal mayor if you can't leave sick people writhing in agony?

Maybe next week, the city can ban hospital food. Wouldn't want patients getting fat or selling  Jell-O cups on the black market.

  • CARLjr

Rush Limbaugh agrees with you. Rush thinks OxyContin should be an over-the-counter medication that should be available at 7-11.

  • Screeminmeeme

    Ya nailed the control-freak Bloomberg.

What I don't understand is how he gets away with this kind of crap in a city which is populated by very independent people. One would think they would object vociferously to any attempts to control their lives...but they seem to go right along with him.

What do you do with someone in power who says:

'' you didn’t get enough painkillers and you did have to SUFFER A LITTLE BIT.''

The guy is obsessed with controlling everyone's life, and if his policy causes suffering, so what. And he gets away with this.

    Go figure.

I want to know where the Mafia is when you need them.

    • CARLjr

I'm sure you can buy pain killers from the Mafia, Screemin'.

      • think4myself

The mafia is running our government

        • G-man

The mafia isn't as stupid as our elected officials.

        • Dale Holland

True, maybe the MOb will save us.

    • MarxistTwilightZone

      These politicians are the Mafia

      • G-man

They're not mafia. They're associate tyronts under the dictator Obama

        • G

          Oops, tyrents.

        • G

          Ok, once more, tyrants...

        • mfernandez57MN

          Third time's charm.

        • okihadit

you seem to do as i do, write, then send before you look up. LOL

  • Ort

Break his legs and arms, and then give him 3 days worth of baby aspirin. Rot in hell, Bloomberg.

    • Doodlebug

I wouldn't even give him 3 days worth of baby aspirin. Did this jerk flunk out of medical school or something? Now, he knows more than trained doctors, and he is forcing doctors to ignore their oath - do no harm. Letting someone suffer when you can do something about it is doing harm. Not only harm, its not humane. But then, I don't think Bloomberg is humane. He's another power grabber like obummer and I wouldn't doubt but what obummer is behing it all. I wonder how many drug addicts we have because they shelved 17 days worth of pain killers for another day, how many kids have gotten a hold of them? And, besides I thought it was guns to blame for crimes and now we find out it is pain killers??? I further find it hard to believe that 17 days worth of pain killers makes anyone an addict. These people are getting me soooooooo confused!!

      • Denise Lengel

        its all about the control

        • Anthony San Diego

          Denise Lenge,

When enough Americans discover what group of people is ruining their lives that group (men, women and children) better get on the boats and planes and skedaddle outta here or God help them, because we won't.

        • Buck

It's more like a matter of who can make the biggest fool of him or herself! Bloomberg is a spoiled little brat who has probably never been in real pain! Cancer I tell you is real pain & he should keep his arrogant & ignorant mouth shut until he has been there !!

        • okihadit

          for dam sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Dale Holland

Amen to that! They are wanting to take control of everything, they are driving for a true dictatorship, and it has to be stopped now. WE are slowly losing our freedoms.

    • richcarro

I really enjoy this idea. If it happens, can I watch him suffer after the 3rd day?

    • True Patriot

Blooming idiot Mayor Bloomberg is a tyrant. He wants to make others suffer. He probably gets as many pains kills as he wants. This IS a true TYRANT!!

      • Dale Holland

Bloomberg is like Obummer on gun control, his family have armed guards and doesn't want you to own a firearm. Perhaps he's a little concerned that some folks are getting a liile tired of his bullshit and may turn on he and his posey. He has a valid point!

    • Screeminmeeme

Ort...Good idea...but elites always have what they need. The gulf between the haves and the have nots is being expanded all the time by dimwits like Bloomberg.

    • Wanda

Baby aspirin .....not....I say a piece of termite infested wood for him to bite on

    • TexasOlTimer

And take away his armed guards! Baby aspirin - too much for this guy! He might become addicted! Heaven protect us from these know-better-than-you-what's-good-for-you Progressive ideologues! It's do what I say, not what I do. Somehow freedom, personal responsibility and the Constitution have been lost.

  • Bobseeks

Why hasn't this malignant, meddling moron been sued out of office? Is it because the New York courts are controlled by him?

    • Wild Thing

When you are an idiot billionaire, you can get away with a lot of things. Who is going to stop him?

      • JoJo58

I wouldn't call Bloomberg, Obama or the other liberal creeps as idiots. They liberal/progressive/communist machine has been planning and working towards this agenda for over 100 years. We may call them idiots, but they know exactly what they're doing. Why not be more honest by calling them what they really are? Evil, corrupt and morally bankrupt.

  • rchguns

I want to know how this imbecile has acquired the knowledge to direct how much pain an individual must have before he gets help. I personally don't know of anyone who knows the pain threshold of another individual.

In Bloomberg's case it's obvious because of his actions in the crap that comes out of his mouth that Bloomberg feels no pain. That must be an absolute given it should be obvious to everyone. Is a prime example of the old saying," No Brain No Pain" and he is definitely proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has no brain.

    • JoJo58

Because he's an all knowing genius. He knows exactly how many ounces to a pop bottle (guess he never dreamed that people could buy more than ONE bottle at a time) and no more salt at your restaurant table. Now he's playing doctor. Wonder if he is going to open a gas chamber for those that don't have much longer to live, or are too handicapped to be useful to society. The people of NYC have to figure out how much more of this tyrant they are going to take. If I lived there, I would be trying to figure out how to oust him from office ASAP

      • MarxistTwilightZone

Im beginning to wonder if the elections are rigged.

        • JoJo58

LOL...beginning? They've been rigged for quite a while. This clown bought the office and needs to be run out of town on a rail. Problem is, too many people won't DO anything about it. Get the signatures, make some noise, get him out.

        • okihadit

          beginning ,your joking ,right?

        • Dale Holland

I'm feeling that this last one was! If not we have more idiots in this country than I thought.

      • Richard

but he can tax each individual soda bottle.

    • Wild Thing

Bloomberg does the 1 to 10 pain scale.

    • Dale Holland

Lets try his pain threshold out for him to give a chance to reflect on his statement and make the necessary retractions.

  • shannon853

well when he goes in, deny him any kind of pain killer. just hope he needs open heart surgery

  • Bobby

The FDA is now regulating the dosage a doctor can prescribe for Ambien and other sleeping pills. We need to rise up against sleeping pill control. Next we know they'll be taking all our pills. It's our constitutional right to take all the sleeping pills we need to live with these commies. Let's unite and overthrow the FDA. NOW

  • BillboyBaggins

Where does he get the authority to over ride a doctor's medical decisions?

    • Nacho Daddy

  • Sarg

Give him a 24 hr. enema and see if he still spouts all his crap.

    • okihadit

then he will really be over flowing with crap, from both ends.

    • JoJo58

LOL no thanks, he might enjoy it.

  • Robert Dungan

I can't wait to hear the reports of his change of heart.

  • 7papa7

It has to make you wonder what is wrong with the people of NY city for electing this certifiable moron. I guess it doesn't matter because it doesn't effect him. Congratulations NY city on your stupidity, you are seeing liberalism in full operation. I hope you are happy. The sad part is that this is what will probably happen if Obamacare is allowed to stand. I believe their is another challenge to Obamacare on the grounds that the law was NOT started in the house but the congress. I hope that the house REFUSES to fund this obscene anti American, anti Constitution bill.

    • Wild Thing

More than likely the same thing that is wrong with Kalifornians for reelecting Governor Moonbeam. A bad case of liberalitis, and foaming at the mouth.

      • Greg80

But the funny thing is he is now is trying to restrain the state legislature from spending too much! Since they were voted over a 2/3 majority last November they can now do whatever they want in regards to raising taxes, spending, guns bans, etc. and can override his veto if need be. Who would have thought that he would be the voice of reason these days? We are now making our exit plans to "fly over" country and hope to make it before the house of cards collapses here. I was born and raised here and it is sad to see what the once great state has become.

    • G

The House is as gutless as the Senate. They are all looking to protect their next election. 2014 is coming. The freeloaders will win bigger. Gimme, gimme, gimme.

  • JoJo58

The problem could be solved very easily, and I'm surprised that uber genius Bloomberg didn't figure it out. He could go door to door personally and administer the painkillers himself. It's the ONLY way he will know for certain that the painkillers will not be sold or abused in any way.

This guy is the biggest dictator, why don't the people of NYC demand that he step down?

  • TLady62

Bloomberg is WAY out of control. This is ridiculous. What on earth were New Yorkers thinking when they voted for this turkey?!

    • ICOYAR

      They weren't. Liberals don't think.

      • TLady62

You're right. Guess I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

    • Wild Thing

New Yorkers were thinking???? What an interesting concept.

      • TLady62

LOL!!!! I nearly sprayed my keyboard on that one!

  • Navy Vet

Why the hell does anyone want to live in New York City? It's getting as bad as California for abusive regulations.

    • Wild Thing

    • Wild Thing

why are you so worried about voting on a comment. It means nothing, and please quit shouting. It is annoying, and lends no import to your statement.

  • Vazir Mukhtar

Interesting. I wasn't aware that Mayor Bloomberg had a license to practice medicine in New York state. So now you need an affidavit or similar document to have someone else go to a drugstore and pick up your prescription.

Since the Mayor wants to make New York a safer, more pleasant place to live and visit, why doesn't he have the steel wheels on subway cars replaced with tires -- like the metro cars in Montreal or Paris. Imagine how wonderful it would be without the screeching.

To unblock mid-town streets, Mayor Bloomberg could require deliveries in Manhattan to be made before 8 AM or after 6 PM. He could forbid buses from traveling in packs. He could institute affirmative action programs so that others besides Koreans could own/run delis and groceries in mid-town and to give others besides African-born and India- or Pakistan-born men the opportunity to become cab drivers. Why, BTW, are there so few women cabdrivers?

I'm sure that if the Mayor puts his mind to it, he can come up with at least a dozen more projects.

    • Wild Thing

And in New York, you cannot be armed when you go to the drug store to pick up your prescription.

      • Vazir Mukhtar

I'm told (but cannot vouch for its truth) by a friend that one of his acquaintances used to hunt and carried his rifle in a ski bag of some sort lest he cause panic or worse when riding a New Jersey Transit bus to and from the home of one of his hunting buddies.

Those who own firearms may have to resort to practices reminiscent of Prohibition. And we all know what happened to the Volstead Act. What goes around...

  • StarDust Dolittle

This is insane, it is plain to see where he will go judgemnet day. I rather cut something else off and give him no pain meds. Not even a bandage.

    • Dale Holland

Yes, we should honor Bloomberg by allowing him to take the American Pain Threshold Test. When he passes out from the pain, baby asprin for him, we certainly don't want him to become addicted.

  • Meeche Miller

This is another rotten decision made by this idiot - so you go into the ER with a kidney stone (terrible pain) and you will lay there dying for a pain pill while ten people stand around trying to figure out if you deserve a pain pill!

    • Screeminmeeme

      Meeche Miller...Welcome to Obamacare.

  • GDC97

That little PEDOPHILE Bloomberg should be LOCKED UP in a PSYCHIATRIC WARD. Put on ANTI-PSYCHOTIC Medications and given ECT!!!

  • kitdfohs

That Napoleonesque mentality is really something to watch. He's got the "little man" syndrome down pat and doesn't care who he hurts exercising it. How can anyone be so stupid as to vote for some "thing" like him when he holds such low regard for his subjects? I always heard that Hew Yorkers we an independant bunch. Guess not. You deserve what you elect.

  • Wild Thing

Now banning hospital foods would not exactly be a great loss. Some of that stuff is down right nasty.

  • CommonSense

Thank goodness this applies to hospitals and not patients! I think all of the non-city hospitals will be overrun, since he can't control them. BloominBerg's mentality also works with taxes. He thinks that when you tax more, you get more. It always backfires! Look at what Reagan did when he lowered taxes. genius

  • nanas6

What right as Mayor does he have to tell hospitals what they can and cannot do? This man is as bad or worse than Obama, he is a total controller, and needs to go to a pschy center asap. Better than that, let him go to surgery, and then not get pain killers...He's nuts, why are the citizens of NY putting up with him? Get him out fast.

  • richcarro

Is there nothing this guy can't get his hands into? Mayor blumberg, when did you get you doctors license? Until you get it, stay the hell out of other peoples business.

  • BH206L3

Well the last time I had to take meds for pain, was after some surgery. After three or four days I didn't need them anymore, what I had left well I am an adult and took care of it myself, It's between me and my Doctor not between me my doctor and a hack like Bloomberg. How the heck did a clown like him gotten so wealthy?

    • RescueKyron

You can't really be serious with that question. Don't you know who and what he is?

  • richcarro

With all of Blumbergs ideas, the Black market must be making a bundle from all of his decrees.

  • Paul

    This guy is delusional

  • hongryhawg

Sounds like Bloomberg has already cut back on his medications.

  • Teresa

You forgot to mention he has the baby formula locked up trying to force mothers to breast feed. He is a real problem, luckly, not mine I would never live in NY. Or NJ Or any of those oh so blue states. Keep him in office so I can have something to laugh at.

  • GLW513

Maybe those people breaking their legs and needing pain medication will finally vote him out of office!

  • Ellen Butler

The thing that stands out to me here is his remark, "the city hospitals...the ones we control." My theory is that Obamacare is not only about a power grab in the insurance industry, but also has a goal to federalize hospitals-- because it's not "fair" that someone might be able to go to a nice, privately-run hospital and another have to go to a "pit" of a city hospital (that soon will no longer be able to provide pain meds determined necessary by a doctor but countermanded by a city mayor). We should all be equally miserable. Socialism at its finest.

  • RescueKyron

    Ingrate Jews.

  • fedup

I hope nanny bloomberg never needs painkillers.

    • Lili Q

That is of course the reason that narcotics must be diverted from places where people are actually given emergency narcotics by MDs, the DNC has had its profit expectations adversely affected by weather events and must replenish the coffers for gay times.

  • Lili Q

Maybe NYC Mayor Bloomberg should start regulating and rationing blood supplies, antiseptics, bandages, plastic wrappers, etc., and of course electrical useage to 'green the planet and save the Earth from people' at these overbloated and wholly unnecessary trauma centers because people who come to these trauma centers may well be in need of extraordinary medical care and treatment, but the treatment expends resouces and wealth that could be used by Mayor Bloomberg and the DNC for things they enjoy, like booze and hookers.

  • Southerngal

Now all you doctors & nurses remember that if Bloomerboy has to come to the hospital & NEEDS pain medicine; DO NOT GIVE HIM ANYTHING. Like Ori said. Maybe ONE baby aspirin, but that's it. Just send him home & tell him to grin & bear it. He's nothing but a POS.

  • Alice Marie Ribby

What I wonder is: When are

  • Alice Marie Ribby

Sorry, to continue; what I wonder is: When are WE THE PEOPLE going to quit quarreling among ourselves and realize that we need to STAND UP AS A UNITED PEOPLE and decide what WE THE PEOPLE are going to do about these power hungry monsters. As it is now, a few are trying to make some extra cash by sending out questionaires (ALWAYS WITH A REQUEST FOR MONEY) but NOTHING IS EVER ACCOMPLISHED! Some of us whine and complain, like we're all doing here, while others, perhaps long-time Plantation Dwellers, say "Whatsamatter? I don't care about the constitution, just give me my check and food stamps and they can do what they want with the's old and probably outta date for this day and age." While we're all busy doing nothing constructive these wannabe dictators are stealing our freedoms. The common man & woman (us) need to be EXPLORING AND DISCUSSING OPTIONS and deciding how we're going to STOP THEM FROM IMPRISIONING US! TOGETHER, we could present a strong resistance. I think we still outnumber them. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THESE EVIL PEOPLE??? THINK ABOUT IT!!!

  • Karen Walters Griffee

I foresee more pharmacy robberies and more black market drug sales. People who would never have bought drugs on the street will now have to because they can't get them any other way. I am definitely against over-prescribing pain meds to those who don't need them, but Bloomberg is going too far , and in the wrong direction.

    • Adam Moreira

They could work and not have to rely on HHC or the DOHMM.

This getting WAY out of hand! Dictatorships are here in America! I bet he will have a fight with Big Pharma and they will retaliate in some way. My son had his wisdom teeth out some years ago and I asked them to only give him 5 vicodan instead of 30! I didn't want him being addicted to the drug and the pharmacy said they couldn't do that, so I had to take the 30 pills and got rid of 25 of them. He did just fine after the first day with only a couple of vicodan, then went on advil. Big Pharma I am sure will rebel against the ban on their drugs. They want people addicted, so they can make their billions. Just you watch.

This has already happened in Florida. DEA administrator Michele Leonheart has already revoked the licenses of two FL CVS pharmacies because she says they dispense too many painkillers. She plans to shut down more pharmacies. Right now its very hard to get legitimate pain med prescriptions from good, reputable doctors in Florida if some bureaucrat thinks they know more than a doctor. A county sheriff here in FL was recently re-elected because he promised to rid "his" county of all pain medications. Note he didn't say illegal pain meds just ALL pain medications. FL has one of the highest populations in America and the oldest. Naturally with such an aging population there will be a need for more pain medication. One doctor told me to "get used to pain, it comes with old age". I am 71 and have every back injury one can think of, osteoarthritis and can't have surgery; my bones are too soft. At this stage of life tylenol or ibuprofen just doesn't help. Regular primary care physicians in FL cannot prescribe oxycodone or any opioid drug because "some people" have O'D'ed on it or "some people" sell their meds. Fine put the crooks in jail and find out why kids are overdosing on all kinds of drugs and paint and who knows what else. But leave the doctors and their aged patients alone. Its coming soon to your state.

Sure would be nice if someone put his fingers and toes in several pairs of vice grips and tighten them two or three turns every six hours and put a whole bottle of strong pain killers just out of his reach, Video tape it and show it on T V till he was done for, then throw a big street party and bill it to his account! I would attend!

Oh now the mayor of NY city is a doctor. WOW. Denying medication to those who are in pain.. Law suit...

Who awarded this dictator a DEGREE in MEDICINE ? First he was a NUTRITIONIST , now he is a DOCTOR. He puts his nose in everything except his RESPONSIBILITIES. I hope he doesn't need MEDICAL CARE soon , and told to take 2 ASPIRINS and call back in the morning.

What makes me believe that Bloomberg is going to try for president? He will most assuredly save the unwashed masses from their forecast self-destructive ways. Good LORD! Another "magic pen" dumbocrap with a brain the size of a pea, if that!

  • Douglas W. Rodrigues

He's an interesting thought: Imagine if the citizens were stupid enough to give up their guns, for their own safety of course. Then imagine bureaucrats such as Bloomberg imposing their will upon you. Imagine you being told where, and how to live...again, for your own safety and benefit. Imagine such a situation progressing to the point of a bureaucrat telling you what kind of work you are required to do, and what your pay is. Imagine a bureaucrat telling you that you no longer have a right to own a car, because public trasnportation is available. Then imagine a bureaucrat telling you that you have to leave your home and move into an apartment complex closer to where you are forced to work. With bureaucrats of the Bloomberg mindset, the above described situations can happen!
