White House: “Deficit Reduction is Not a Worthy Goal”

White House automaton Jay Carney told reporters recently that reducing the deficit is not really a worthy goal. Here’s what he said:

“The goal remains one that the president believes is the right one and he hopes that in dealing with our further budgetary and fiscal challenges that he will be able to reach an agreement with Congress to further reduce our deficit in a balanced way and to, most importantly- because deficit reduction is not a worthy goal unto itself, this is all about making our economy stronger, making it more productive and allowing it to create even more jobs. That is the most important thing when it comes to economic policy as far as the President is concerned.”

Running trillion dollar deficits from year to year isn’t really all that big of a deal, even though that means the government is spending more than it takes in. In a normal household, that means you have a budget problem, and you either have to get a second or third job to increase your income, or you have to cut spending. Or, you could do the equivalent of what Congress does and spend even more using multiple credit cards. In the real world though, eventually that bill will come due. But our government is not bound by these rules since they create their own money and arbitrarily establish its value.

While closing the deficit isn’t a worthy goal of the Obama administration, raising the $16.4 trillion debt limit is. It’s so worthy that Senator Reid (who was against raising the debt ceiling before he was for it) and some others wrote a letter to Obama, telling him that he should just bypass Congress if they won’t agree to raise the debt ceiling. The letter accused the GOP of holding the nation’s economy and reputation “hostage” by not compromising:

“In the event that Republicans make good on their threat by failing to act, or by moving unilaterally to pass a debt limit extension only as part of an unbalanced or unreasonable legislation, we believe you must be willing to take any lawful steps to ensure that America does not break its promises and trigger a global economic crisis — without congressional approval, if necessary.”

Closing the deficit is not a worthy goal because Obama’s in the White House. Endless borrowing facilitated by continuously raising the debt ceiling is OK because Obama’s in the White House. If the GOP had the White House, the Dems and the media would be going crazy with how “unpatriotic” it is to maintain such a large deficit year after year and how “irresponsible” it is to raise the debt limit. We wouldn’t hear the end of it.

Well I have a new consideration for the birth certificate issue. He IS a natural born.....idiot ALL of them crooked bastards. Every single one of them. They ALL know he isn't even eligible so I don't believe a single word ANY of them say. I USED to like Michele Bachmann and Allen West and even John Barrasso but I'm over all of them. CROOKS ALL!

    • disqus_SecuC0Gycd

Do you know why neither the pres nor his wife can no longer practice law? Why they both lost their license to do so as I have heard reported? I read why Michelle did but do not know why the president did if this is true. Hearing her speak at the convention of his having to wear his shoes too small and the holes in his car while he was working and making good money could this be true? Wonder if it is because Romney and his wife spoke of their days trying to make it, Michelle wanted their plight to be poor as well? Poor mouthing when you are not poor is inexcusable. They spoke of all the loans they had to repay when I also read his education was paid by others. I do not know the others of whom you speak to be crooks. I do not know what they did wrong. Funny thing, lies. There is a scripture that says be careful what you say, a little bird will hear it and go and tell the matter...rather like be sure your sins will find you out.

      • Flybob

I mean EVERYONE in government is a liar! I believe the entire congress AND SCOTUS know the man is ineligible. I have read that moochele lost her license to practice law because of insurance fraud and he lost his because he lied on his application to the bar saying he had never used an alias. I do not know for a fact that is true but it does makes sense. They're both not very believable. It doesn't matter very much, they have done so much damage to the country that I don't know if we can recover. I'm more afraid we may be invaded while we're at the lowest we've been since America was founded. Our military has been gutted and even our space program is completely destroyed. We can't even maintain our own sattelites without the Russians. Does anyone else think it's odd they insisted the space shuttles be moved so far from a launch pad that we can't even think about putting one up, even in a dire national emergency? Not very smart on our part but probably pretty smart for those who wish for America to fall. Everything that has happened seems to point to our downfall. We ALL better pray for our country and our children. Shame on us for allowing thos to happen. The LAST thing the government should do right now is ask us to give up our guns. Talk about an invitation to be invaded!

  • argusmanargus

It's almost on Carney's lips.. we know we are spending a kid in a candy store, we know we have a problem.

I just wish he would say it.

His point about deficit reduction, though true, is lacking. Deficit reduction for the sake of deficit reduction, the same as spending for the sake of spending, is not a means unto itself.

His point lacks though because though he and others tout a balanced approach, even the alcoholic at some point has to just quit drinking.

We are heavy on spending, trying to solve every world ill, and while a noble goal, one also that is naive and will most likely end in failure.

    • PMM

We are dead broke and can't pay our bills without borrowing money, so no we can't solve the problems of the world nor should they be a priority but they are with this president. Giving billions to the UN is more important, giving Egypt weapons and money, giving money to those in Gaza, and yet when we talk about not being able to pay our bills, he mentions not paying social security, not paying the military, not paying medicare etc. This man has his priorities upside down and backwards..................and has totally ignored all the cuts recommended (in the billions) that could be made to streamline and get rid of redundancy. No one wants to do that and Obama doesn't think his spending addiction is an issue.

  • GWY

Jay Carney is just a hand puppet mouthing someone's words. I doubt he has a brain because if he had one, he would know how stupid his answers are.

He does have the same arrogance as the president. He is also just as rude and hateful. Both along with Reid, Pelosi, and others believe they alone know how to lead.

Problem is he thinks he knows everything and lies about everything. He really believes in himself, his greatest adoring fan. He opens his mouth and believes he sounds so grand yet his ignorance of most everything shows. He struts around and the Democrats look for ways they might please him. They worship him and it shows as well. Even the Republicans appear to want what this president wants. He forgets the Republicans were voted in for a reason. There are others in America who are not admiring Democrats but the president dismisses those for they do not count in his world. He so much loves hearing himself he has to make speeches all the time. Americans can not see, neither can they hear for the most part. They do not see the harm this pres has done and is doing. The Mainstream Media fall all over themselves when he is around. We need a third party, one who is interested in America and not what can I get for me. We need one who is not about the color of one's skin but as Martin Luther King said the content of one's character.

The Germans were deceived as are those in America. America will pay for this and this is sad, once a great country on its way out, there is NO ONE stepping up to get
this president removed for his crimes. America needs saving, it appears it is committing suicide while the world watches. The NWO is winning and the people are asleep. This actor in the White House is doing his job he was hired to do well and the ignorance is astounding to behold. People scream for Americans to wake up but they can not hear. Read Agenda 21 and will understand better what the president is doing.

      • rivahmitch

        Yes. As Patrick Henry said:

"It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to
shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that
siren, till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men,
engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to
be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and having ears,
hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation?
For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to
know the whole truth; to know the worst and provide for it."

If not us, who? If not now, when!

        • rivahmitch

"the dangers of man-made global climate change".. You're hallucinating. There were none than and there are none now. Pat was discussing the dangers of intrusive, oppressive government which were and are real.

Obama acts as if he was born in America and was never trained by a Marxist who had his own FBI file. And if that isn't enough for you, he acts as if he really cares.... Awww, and he loves children and bunnies.

About the charlatan in the White House right now: President Clinton said it best when he said that a few years earlier, Obama would have been carrying his bags. That's REALLY saying something because I don't think of Obama as being qualified to shine the shoes of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, President Ronald Reagan, or even the lowest among us who are here legally.

      • VT Patriot

Beautifully stated. But how do we smack the libs aside the head and let them see that this isn't the 'old Demonrat party', but the 'progressive movement' bent on progressing to a socialist, marxist regime. Are they really that stupid?

    • larrylunts

The WH understands (as did Henry Ford) that the economy is driven by consumer spending (demand); and that the more money that consumers have to spend, the more economic activity (supply) will be created. When there is no demand, shoving money at rich people does no good, because they will just sit on their big, fat, wallets; move it offshore; or use it to buy Congressmen and Senators.

I'll amend my last sentence: shoving money at rich people DOES do some "good," at least to the bottom line of legislators, who use this form of legalized bribery in order to get re-elected. This is why campaign finance reform (which was nowhere on the horizon during the 2012 elections) deserves to be addressed as a national issue ALMOST as important as global climate change.

If we can't openly talk about real issues, what chance do we have to survive as a species?

Here are 50 good reasons, which show why Obama is not only a great, transformational President; but might ultimately be judged, after his second term, as one our greatest Presidents; in the rarified company of men like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin D. Roosevelt: http://tinyurl.com/7xpxkge

        • KJ

It's not likely that anyone would be stupid enough to believe that Obama's legacy is really safe in history. It's far too early to determine if he'll be the WORST occupant of the White House or just among the worst. I'm still comfortably certain that his documentation is fraudulent and that he is unqualified to hold his present office. That little issue of being "the most transparent administration in history" was pure BS like almost everything else related to his career. But we're stuck with him for four more years. For America's sake, I hope that he changes and proves me wrong.

        • Greg B

I respect your opinion but am baffled at your assessment of Obama's results. Promised to rid Gitmo, still here. Promised to exit 2 war fronts, 4 years later-still there. Promised "transparency" but has cloaked more than Bush! Employment is flat and NOT gaining. The only identifiable change is the increase in federal support for aliens. NOW, i admit, he's said more about great intentions than any president I can recall, but has delivered less than any as well. So why tag him as great? The yet unfulfilled promise?

WHY won't anyone take steps to stop him? Pres wants to bypass Congress and do as he pleases which he has already done, Reid tells him to bypass Congress...then Congress needs to pack up and go home, we do not need to pay Congress for allowing the pres to do their job. We need to fire them all and start over. The Speaker smiles and lets the pres have his way. This is getting old.

Wasn't there a situation like this in the early 1880s when the ground of a certain Indonesian island started behaving like it had epilepsy? The leadership tried to send the populace back to their homes and said it was OK. By 1884, the island no longer existed, nor did the people of Krakatoa. After all, they don't want to be known as the party of tea-baggers, rascists, homophobes and anti-women pigs (which is what they'll be called no matter what they do). Heaven forbid they get blamed for shutting down the government and stopping all the social security checks from going out (as Obama always threatens to do). How long will these spineless moron Republicans continue to quake in their boots when threatened by these communist Democrats? Who cares if the media, Hollywood and the universities are all in bed with the Democrat party? Grow a spine and shut this down. We won't die if the government is forced to deal with this. Social Security checks will still go out - regardless of what Obama threatens. The military will still get paid. You'll have a bunch of government people put on furlough - which means a paid vacation. Big deal! We in the private sector have suffered enough. $6 trillion a year is immoral - we can't afford it, our kids and grandkids can't afford it - and our country sure as hell can't afford it.

I agree, maybe its regular Republicans across this country that should stand up and say enough already and I'd gladly call King Obama a liar which Republicans are afraid to do for some reason. Has anyone got any ideas on how we can help Republicans fight back better and shut up the media ? If we don't go after the media this crap will NEVER END AND THEY'LL CONTINUE TO PICK THE PRESIDENTS THEY WANT AND THEY WILL FILL BOTH HOUSES WITH RADICAL LIBERALS. Their already saying democrats will take back the Congress next election, of course they think that liberals have cheating in their blood and add the liberal medias help protecting king Obama and democrats and demonizing Republicans their all pretty sure they'll win the next election and every election after that !

      • disqus_SecuC0Gycd

What is sick is they are considering allowing this president to run for a third term, after all so much wrong Bush did it will take a third term to get his great work done! Change the law to allow him to get a third term only to implement his NWO plan which he was hired to do. FEMA camps and all will soon be here if he has anything to do with it and he has done much already. The people worship this Dictator. I watcheD the Speaker say how he is going to do this or that and meets with the pres and melts looking at him and agrees to the pres. plans. forgetting he had a plan.

Would he need a third term to destroy what is left of America after this term?

Republicans in WA want the president to have his way, they are as for him as are the far left Democrats. Supposed to be few of far left Dems but appears all of them are now. Republicans are joiners and have appeared to agree to the pres having his way in all things. VERY FEW Republicans speak up and none are doing anything. Is it just for looks? Or dare we hope even a few are who they say they re? I used to believe but I woke up.

Congress should not give Obama a penny more until he allows the Keystone pipeline as he already agreed and he cuts spending so that America does not need to borrow any money! This is common sense 101! If Obama does not comply then Congress should turn the lights off in the white House as they control the money!

    • Phillip_in_TX

I hate to inform you that "it's not my fault Obama" and the rest of his "infestation" FLUNKED common sense 101. That's part of the reason his records are sealed.

      • RedMeatState

the other reason is that none of what he claims is true.

    • disqus_SecuC0Gycd

This president is not given money, he takes that which is not his to take and spends like a drunken man. He is a money addict, spend is all he knows. His job is to ruin this nation, bankrupt it and he is doing a hell of a job. Gets all sorts of bowing and awards.
The MainStream Media is so taken with him, they nearly fall over when he is speaking to them. Their eyes glaze over.
Congress just told Obama to bypass them and raise the debt ceiling by Executive Order. This was Reid and others in a letter to the pres. Since Congress can not or will not do their job they need to resign and turn it over to Obama. We need to hire new ones anyway. Ones that will do what the people sent them to do instead of becoming a career Congressman, becoming very wealthy= they can go to work and earn their living. Obama believes he was sent there to do what HE WANTS rather than the will of the people. Voting for him does not translate to his doing as he pleases. Remember that brilliant idea Cash for Clunkers, what a way this guy has spending money that is not his. I am not impressed with Congress.

      • KJ

You're factually incorrect. Some in Congress have said that Obama should invoke the fourteenth amendment. However, a) it's highly unlikely that a majority in both houses would ever allow such a transfer of authority to the executive branch as appropriations are the explicit responsibility of the Congress alone, and b) were Obama attempt such a maneuver, any SCOTUS decision would rightly declare his action illegal, unconstitutional, and would be unequivocal grounds for impeachment.

No President has the authority to spend money which is not appropriated by the Congress of the United States.

    • MalikTous

If the KXL pipeline could be built by those competent people who did the Alaska pipeline instead of Leak City (TransCanada), the oil processed for use in the USA instead of export, and the extraction on the Canadian end made properly efficient and low-polluting, I wouldn't mind seeing it built!

    • William T. "Buck" Futter

Pardon me. May I ask why you promote the building of the Keystone pipeline, which would allow Canada to ship its oil across the United States to southern ports for shipment to China, when none of that oil is earmarked for US consumption, thanks to Republicans in Congress, and their lobbyist pimps?

What do we (American taxpayers) get out of this deal? Oh, I forgot. We get to pay for the security costs of maintaining this massive pipeline; and we get to pay for the cleanup costs of the inevitable spills, and we get to pay for the groundwater contamination resulting from them; and we get to pay for the healthcare costs of dealing with the accidents and environmental contamination. Silly me. Never mind!

Yeah, this is a great deal! If you send me your email address, I will forward it to some friends in Nigeria, who will get back to you quickly with some attractive investment opportunities.

Just let the damn thing shut down, and pyss on what happens in the rest of the world!
As the world finances pretty much spin around the solvency of the United States, and as the great majority of the nations are bankrupt or just bordering on it, our government partially shutting down, even temporarily, can only help the world situation, as it will signal that the largest economy on Earth realizes that there is a problem and we are taking steps to fix the problems. If the White House continues to be noncommittal on spending cuts then the White House and Congress must be shown the way to save our nation and the rest of the civilized world through serious 'adjustments' to entitlements and the deletion of some govt. agencies,

I guess Obama is evolving again because he said it was irresponsible to raise the debt ceiling when he was senator and now he says it is irresponsible to not raise the debt ceiling as he is the one that can't control his spending. What a hypocrite he and other members of congress are. I think getting a handle on our debt should be the most important thing this adm and congress can do.

  • rank

The only worthy goal is the implementation of the final few steps of the Cloward-Piven Strategy. If you do not know what that strategy is just ask any key Progressive in congress or the administration. It was drafted in 1965, and most key Progressives have been well mentored in it, and have been patiently waiting for just the right opportunity to finally put it in to action. Or with just a little bit of research you can read about it yourself. Of course it may very soon be way too late to stop it.

  • Bobseeks

Deficit reduction is a worthy goal if, and only if, it is reduced through lower spending. Remember, deficit reduction can also be done through higher taxes - that is not a worthy goal at all.

In Obummer's own words while he was a candidate in 2007, he said that it was unpatriotic to add 4 Trillion dollars to the debt and irresponsible to saddle future generations with such large national debt. Hmmmm....if Bush was unpatriotic and irresponsible, what the heck does that make him?!!! Treasonous? Idiotic, Stupid, Ignorant, Foolish just to name a few "kind" adjectives. No. I don't think those adjectives accurately describe Mr. Obama. He knows exactly what he's doing and that is to "take America down a notch or two." And, I believe that goal is reflective of the puppet master, George Soros. He was tickled pink to be part of taking down how many nations? • MalikTous

      If it's socialist, it's dystopian!

  • Shagnasty1

To begin I am a conservative, not a Republican and this whole deficit reduction fight claimed by the Republicans has me confused. I believe spending is the whole reason for the national debt so we need to separate our wants from our needs and cut spending to the minimum. This is also what the Republicans are saying today but from January 2001 to January 2007 they had the White House and complete control of the Congress not once did I see anything where THEY reduced spending. So what if the economy was doing great, a recession was coming, they always do. That is a fact of life. The economy goes up and it goes down. During the good times you should pay your debts, not add to them. This is the same people who made up the Congress and made Clinton look good because THEY set the budgets that reduced spending. What happened to those great ideas put forth in 1995 when they took control of the Congress? I know the Senate Democrats could make it hard to pass legislation they didn't like but what did the GOP put forth to keep our financial house in order and pay down the debt? And, no, the war is not an excuse. I'm not a rocket scientist but I could tell you why the Iraq and Afghanistan wars hurt the economy more than they should have and the Congress has allowed it to happen since day one. Whenever responsible spending or cuts have been proposed it was chump change compared to the deficit spending and miniscule compared to the debt. The two are different if you didn't know it. The deficit results from spending more than you have and the debt is the sum total of the years of deficit spending plus interest on that debt. Like many others who pay attention all year long I am tired of the irresponsibility of these 535 people who are supposed to provide leadership. Where do we turn? I love my country and our ideals. Our country is worth saving but we are heading into an abyss with no hope of getting out without drastic changes. The GOP hierarchy is unwilling to fight for their own stated ideals and is more inclined to be fighting fellow Republicans with TEA Party ideals (conservatives), their Republican base and other taxpayers who want financial responsibility than the elected Democrats whom they oppose on this issue. So as a conservative I'll still support conservative Republicans but find myself looking to the Constitution Party and Libertarians for the candidates who aren't afraid to offer and enact a solution.

  • Texsheva

Because these people don't live within budgets themselves, they don't have a clue of how to balance one. Idiots!

Between this and gun regulation, O'bama has amply demonstrated his disdain for the Constitution he swore to "preserve, protect and defend". Of course, it is limited to "best of [his] Ability", so maybe that's his out: he is inherently incapable of doing anything the Constitution mandates that he do, and is compelled by his "religious" beliefs to do many of the things the Document denies his doing.

Let's take the position, however, that he is able to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, and that, consequently, his acts are therefor treasonous and constitute "high Crimes" or at least, "high … Misdemeanors".

There ought to be many more than one Representative willing to sponsor a bill of impeachment against this interloper. Is yours doing so? If not, have you written him about it?

The economy and the recovery of our manufacturing output and increasing exports to those who have covered our debt is necessary and it must take place now and not later for when the GOP does/will come up with a fix; Obama is not getting on board until he can claim without giving up to much of the facts that would prevent Obama from being able to claim it was all his idea will he act and permit recovery. He's a lame duck President (fraud) and he doesn't have to do anything to keep his job for the next four years; we must impeach this guy and do it immediately or we are looking at another 8/10 years of pinching and scraping to get by; he's poisoning the well so he can set things up to assist in getting another do nothing, know nothing SOB Democrat elected; he's been arguing it was the Congress that has been holding things back and making a recovery possible the truth is the opposite. The American public are sheep and a fool is their sheppard who has surrounded the flock with vultures longing to begin a long awaited feeding as if they still didn't have money still stashed away
from the bailout; as we allow another frisking of our wealth (loose change) so an educated and accurate relieving of those assets can get underway. In the military when an officer or a senior enlisted that found pleasure riding the backs of his subordinates a slush fund was taken to finance his removal, why has this not begun? The only way this nation will survive this unclean union is to be those left standing; Obama will not stop until he is stopped, our Congress and Senate are not man enough to fight and push back against the onslaught before us.

Some of the words that come out of Jays' mouth are the most ignorant, idiotic and pathetic words one could ever hear.

    • MalikTous

I've heard far worse - out of such morons as Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Filthy Phelps, Pat Robertson, Joe Biden, BHO and Moochelle, Wilhelm and Hellary Klinton, and Lyndon Birdbrain Johnson. And of course Saul Alinsky.

      • djw663

Although you have named some great nominees I still think Jay beats them all beacause he is the one that has to spin the words that come out of those peoples' mouths.

  • smilee

Interesting how you cherry pick but print the whole statement and high light the one point you want cherry pick and only address it and ignore the rest thus taking it ll out of context and thus given a very distorted analysis.

  • llellc

I used to be aghast at things that the current administration said, but now I know they are all psychotic. I expect nothing else from them than the hate-backed idiocy and just plain dumb speech that slops out of their (OHB, Pelosi, Biden, etc) mouths. All of them, including FEMA, Homeland Sec. and other department heads are either dumber than dirt or just plain evil. So, now I don't get upset when they blather on and on about guns, equality, terrorism, etc. Better for my blood pressure, ya know?

Obama is a fool, an illegal president and a threat to the American way of life. He should be impeached and deported back to kenya immediately. All of the food stamp parasites should go with him.

    • MalikTous

All the anti-gun lobby morons as well. And sending them to Pyongyang or Beijing, two 'socialist paradises', would be more appropriate than shipping the garbage back to Kenya or Indonesia...

  • Farmer1

Lets all meet with a gallon of pigs blood and paint all of the steps into every government building!

    • MalikTous

Waste of pigs. Use libtard blood!

And any of us are surprised that a ghetto inciter has any problems taking white people's $ to give to the lazy and shiftless?

  • http://www.survivingurbancrisis.com/ Silas Longshot

The magnitude of stupidity of this "administration" is staggering. King zero, in the drivers seat, is turned around bixching at the republicans for not cooperating as the car rushes towards the cliff.

Well, to this WH deficit reduction may not be a worthy goal, but that mostly because it is contrary to their primary goal, which the total financial destruction of the United States. We need to impress on our judicial branch (at this point, that would mainly be the Alabama Supreme Court ) that they need to get involved in reviewing his eligibility to hold the highest office in this land. I would also urge ANY court in this land to ACCEPT any case involving a review of Obama's eligibility or credentials. While I understand that it will take justices of tremendous moral character and integrity to withstand the beating that will be given to them by Obama's minions, but failure to do so will make complicit in the destruction of the United States. Please be strong.

  • gypsy314

I will not miss this fool.

  • What's going on?

Aaah, so "opie" tells us that deficit reduction is not a worthy goal, "unto itself"........I bet HE doesn't have a deficit with his finances.............our country is going into a "hole" and my great grandchildren will be paying for the mess we're in. All of you below the age of 40 better start wising up. Don't think that the gov't will give a hoot for you when you reach retirement age.......which might be raised to an age that the gov't will know how many will be alive to collect it.......if you get sick, down the road, expect the "panel" to decide if your value to the country is worth the costs to keep you healthy............if you are dependent on the gov't for food or anything else, expect them to tell you NO..............they'll save money in the long run, and "cut down" on future retirees.........

  • HappyG

Let's fact it, it DC has to live within it's means the Dems will have no money to buy their votes from their dependent voters.

Time for the revolution. Everyone head to the capital and raise hell like the minorities did with there million man march.

  • RH6194

Hmmm...well, I hate to be the guy that's going to get flamed here by everyone, but I'm not sure I disagree with him entirely. If you think about it, how many of us are going to be happy knowing that we have a balanced federal budget with no deficit spending if we are still unemployed, fighting to keep our homes, struggling to put food on the table and gas in the car? The part of this I don't agree with is that I DO believe that if Washington would get it's fiscal house in order, it WOULD go a LONG ways toward stabilizing the economy. Once employers no longer have constant uncertainty over what the government is going to hit them with next in terms of taxes and regulations, they can begin ramping up their hiring to grow their businesses, but they aren't going to take on any labor that is not absolutely necessary until they know what their tax burden, health care regulations, etc are going to be for these employees. What Mr. Carney fails to recognize is that lower deficits lead to less debt...and less debt leads to paying less interest on that debt which means those tax dollars can be used for other, more constructive purposes. In that sense, lowering the deficit does have value in and of itself, but it will be a LONG time before that interest savings translates into jobs for those of us who are struggling right now!

    • hmmathis

You are going to be a lot more unhappy being unemployed, fighting to keep your home, struggling to put food on your table and gas in your car when the country goes bankrupt, interest rates go up to 20% or more and your dollar is worth 1/10 of a cent.

  • CutWashingtonSalary

I could have a little more respect for everyone in the WH, and Senate, if they would actually say what a "balanced" solution is. Or at least give some suggestions. They have already said that taxes are now fair, but never have a specific suggestion. So they expect to find $1 trillion in "loopholes"? If there are that many "loopholes", then we should seriously consider firing everyone who has ever been involved in writting a tax code so poorly.

    • frosty33

Flat tax for everybody inclucing the 55.9% that pay NO income tax

  • Ilene

Does this guy get up a 5 in the morning and practice his lies? Nothing is worthy to BHO unless it means a five star vacation, lavish parties, and golf.

OMG, do these guys ever listen to them selves talk.... "NOT A WORTHY GOAL" Well why should it, it's not their money they are spending, hell they just gave them selves a raise, are we nice!!! Crooks.

  • Classic_Liberal

I have been thinking about what we can do. This Constitutional Republic was set up to protect our God given rights from the majority. The American revolution was started by about 1/3 of the population with about 1/3 opposed and 1/3 who didn't care one way or the other. The only way to fix this mess is peaceably, as taking to arms would simply destroy our cause. So what would happen if the productive segment of America (that would be us) just refused to participate in the system for a month or more? Take off work, maybe the whole summer buy only necessities, drive to Washington and surround the Capital. Don't pay the mortgage, car loans, credit card bills. Do absolutely nothing productive except march to the Capitol, on the Whitehouse. Something like OWS but the big difference here would be that we have jobs, we produce something our economic footprint is vast whereas the OWS folks didn't have jobs anyway so had virtually no impact. The lifeblood of the world economy is in our hands. We have more power through peaceful means than we could ever have with our guns. Our economic might is derived precisely through the means meant to enslave us, debt. What would happen if just 2% of the population (6 million of "we the people") showed up on the governments doorstep and demanded our rights? Another possibility would be to target large corporations that have the ear of the government with boycotts, BOA, Citigroup, etc. Stop doing business with them, pull funds from their banks and deposit them in local bank or credit union. Stop shopping at Wal-mart, Target, etc and only purchase from small local businesses. Stop making payments to loans from these banks instead depositing them in an escrow account. I'm telling you if all of us did this together along with friends and family it would scare the giblets out of them.

Or we could all just sit at our computers writing comments on articles about the usurpation of our rights and protections under that worthless piece of paper previously known as the US Constitution. If we take no action it will be interpreted by those in Washington to mean we have become their subjects. I believe we could accomplish much more without a call to arms and without bloodshed.

  • mudguy1

This should remove ALL doubt. Barack Obama does NOT like America and wants us to go broke. His is NOT a true American.

I would have to ask Jay Carney . . . if deficit reduction is not a worthy goal unto itself and it's all about making our economy stronger, making it more productive and allowing it to create even more jobs - - - they how do you do that? If Jay doesn't have a comprehensive (aka no BS) answer - I might suggest that we might reduce spending (which will reduce the deficit if we play our cards right) by doing away with his job and all those in Washington that support the thought that deficit reduction is not a worthy goal as a stand alone thought.

Obama continues to blend discretionary spending and debt obligations that must be paid according to current law. If Obama shuts down the government it's not because the monthly incoming tax revenue isn't sufficient to cover the non-discretioning spending (debt obligations such as interest on our deficit, government pensions, medicare, and some others), it's because he refuses to honor the debt obligations he is required to pay, by law, and chooses to spend it on discretionary budget items, instead. He uses scare tactics to frighten the unknowing public into thinking that the Repub's. are to blame if things shut down. Another example of his lying, fearmongering ethos. Conservatives should buy blocks of air time on all mass media stations and set the record straight as to who the obstructionist truly is by showing the figures concerning debt obligation, income revenue and what's left over to cover some of the discretionary spending and THE LAW that COMPELS Obama to do as his oath of office dictates. Put the sorry S.O.B. on the defensive and make him answer for his willing deception.

I am about over all this stupid bullshit!!

  • Ecoplastican

It all goes back to the fundamental ideological differences between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives believe in an unfettered free market, whereas liberals believe that bigger government is the answer...., or liberals are just stoopid.

  • KJ

There seems not to be one soul in the White House with an understanding of macroeconomics and how the capital markets operate. Or ... perhaps Barack Hussein Obama really is trying to destroy America from within.

  • mwl

Carney is a dummy made of saw dust. He has to say what he does, thats why podium is so big, this way you cant see obamas arm up his azz and working his mouth. He is getting PAID to say whatever obama wants. A chickenshytt coward with no brains of his own. They must have picked this moron from the legal chambers of an ivy league school, like where obama came from, or they just simply turned over a rock.

  • FloridaJim

When you understand that Obama's goal is the destruction of our beloved country through our economy you realize the debt, the fiscal cliff the endless other Obama-created crises are simply part of the plan...$16,367,000,000,000 on our way to $22,000,000,000,000 by 2016 thanks to Obama. He has no desire to even attempt to correct the deficit anyone who has never submitted a budget in 4 years knows exactly what he is doing to America and he doesn't care!

there are over 300 million of us why are we taking this bullshit ?

  • gbandy

Well soon China or anyone else will want higher interest payments to buy our debt. Does anyone remember 20% interest under Jimmy Carter? Obama is collapsing our economy and there just isn't enough people who realize this. Romney had a plan to fix this Nation and Obama just wants to destroy it. We all know who won the election.

  • valpobill

This is the dumbest administration on record. These are liberal politicians who feel their way
is the direction this country needs to follow. They are trying to make the population dependent on government, so individuals will not have a need to be industrious, self relient, or achieve their goals. If you allow someone other than yourself to make decisions for you, you loose your ability for self determination.
