Texas Attorney General Welcomes New York Gun Owners to Move to Texas

In the wake of all of the new gun control laws at both state and federal levels, Greg Abbott, Texas Attorney General is extending an invite to all gun owners to move to Texas, especially those that live in New York.  Andrew Cuomo, the anti-gun Democratic Governor of New York just signed a set of strict gun laws including a ban on all assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Abbott’s response to Cuomo’s actions was to launch a campaign telling New York gun owners to move to Texas.  The online ads, appearing in New York City and Albany say:

“Wanted: Law abiding New York gun owners looking for lower taxes and greater opportunities.”

And:

“Is Gov. (Andrew) Cuomo looking to take your guns? Sick of the media outing law-abiding gun owners? Are you a lawful New York gun owner seeking lower taxes?”

If New Yorkers click on the ads, they are taken to a Facebook page that tells them:

“You'll fit right in here in Texas.”

“Keep your guns, come to TX.”

“Here in Texas, you will have the liberty and the opportunity to achieve your dreams. On top of that, we have no income tax, yet still manage to have a multibillion-dollar budget surplus. We have right-to-work laws and a reasonable regulatory environment. Texas has created more than 275,000 jobs in the last year alone! And we'll fight like hell to protect your rights.”

“You'll also get to keep more of what you earn and use some of that extra money to buy more ammo.”

Eric Bearse, campaign spokesman for the Texas ad program, commented about Abbott’s reasons for running the ads:

“In the aftermath of the tragic event in Connecticut, he thinks politicians are wrongly taking advantage of the tragedy to advance a political agenda that tramples on the Constitution”

Abbott is one of the few state attorney generals who have taken proactive actions against unfair and illegal gun laws.  Travis County, Texas, which covers the state capitol of Austin and surrounding area, had considered placing a ban on future gun shows at the county facilities.  Using his Twitter page, Abbott sent out a message to Travis County officials telling them:

“[Proponents] better be ready for a double-barreled lawsuit.”

Soon after, they decided against the gun show ban.

Even though I don’t live in New York, reading about Greg Abbott almost makes me want to move to Texas.  If only more state attorney generals were as proactive as Greg Abbott, Obama would find that all of his strutting and crowing on gun control are just sounds in the wind that mean nothing.

Why would Texas invites New Yorker's?They ruined Florida and North Carolina. They should be tested to prove that they are conservative.

    • http://twitter.com/Rapture_Me Nelson Swiger Jr.

Hey if they are bringing more guns here good. More of a deterrent for the feds if they want to come here and start trouble.

    • http://twitter.com/DustyFae StarDust Dolittle

      That is not true.

    • TexasOlTimer

Maybe we could institute an immigration policy. Ask at the border about their politics. If liberal, turn 'em around. We've got enough trouble with the liberals from California and other states that are already here (look at Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Houston).

      • http://www.facebook.com/wayne.graff.58 Wayne Graff

What we could do is when they fail the immigration test give them directions the way they do up in Maine, they'll be lost forever. Better yet give different instructions to the mother and father, they will probably want guns after a couple of miles.

      • darrell_b8

I'd tell them to 'go west yankee...to california....'

        • TexasOlTimer

Maybe tell the liberals 'you broke your state, now stay there and fix it. Don't come to ours and try to change us!'

    • http://www.facebook.com/wayne.graff.58 Wayne Graff

If they have guns they are more than likely conservative minded folks and with a little bit of linguistic help should fit in nicely. I already know some that have been down here for a long time and they love it.

Lived in Texas from the early eighties until 1990, then mistakenly moved back to Masshole. Texas is largely Conservative, sure there are some small blue areas, but not enough to make a difference... Democrats in Texas hold the same political ideology as those Conservative New Yorkers, they are both pro choice, pro death penalty, pro gay and pro gun. Retiring in Texas is something we have discussed..

    • DontTreadOnMe11

      Pro death penalty, pro gun?

      • Uptite

Did I forget the hiphen(-)? Big freakin' deal... don't tread on me!

        • DontTreadOnMe11

That's not what I meant. Are the democrats in Texas pro death penalty and pro gun. It was a question, not a criticism. I apologize if it came out wrong.

        • Uptite

I apologize too ...I am sure the majority of Texans are still pro-gun, since O'Bummah's legislative action on gun control came out, Democratic Texans, the minority over Republicans are still not on board, and gun reform will be minimal *http://www.examiner.com/article/in-texas-democrats-are-stepping-up-to-the-plate-on-gun-legislation?cid=rss

The following article states the majority are pro-death penalty.. *gun,http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com/2012/08/of-texas-democrats-and-the-death-penalty.html/ "don't mess with Texas

      pro gay??no thanks

      • Uptite

Agreed, but just can't seem to have it all! I don't know where you live but gay marriage is legal in Masshole..

        • BeJebus

lol steers and queers all welcome in texas

I am a born and bred native Texan and proud of it and yes I have guns and my conceal carry. Our sheriff has promised to protect us here in Smith county!

  • Marray

This is a big mistake. We are already being invaded by liberal morons from California, why do we want these idiots too? We need to make sure these are conservative New Yorkers and not the idiots that have ruined that state. Do we really want them here in Texas? I sure as hell don't!

    • preacher031163

i understand ur pessimism, but how would u feel if texas were the tyrant state and u were the one looking to escape??how would u like to stand in line to show id just to purchase bullets??how would u like to be told u can have ur carry liscence but it will take up to 16 months to get approved??just because some of us were born in ny,dont make us crackpots...but montana is much more accomodating anyhow,u keep ur mexicans

      • Marray

It shows from your spelling and improper grammar that you are from New York. Thank you for making my point for me. Have a great day!

    • http://twitter.com/DustyFae StarDust Dolittle

I am not from NY and l am in WV. If They do not protect our constitutions, l would have to move, cause l am not one to kill babies and l hate Plan Parenthood. I think women that support this, are ones who are the ones to vote for obama, never voted for him and l could see he was a liar from the first term.

  • jvb1980808

I would LOVE to see a mass exodus from New York!!!

  • MrCReed54

GUN'S DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE! Man has been killing man since man began and no matter what they take away man will always kill man! If a man can't kill a man one way a man will kill the man anther way! Gun's just help good men protect themself's from bad men who also have gun's! And it seems some men won't let good men protect themself's from bad men, like a man named oBAMA! We need to IMPEACH this man NOW

  • preacher031163

The best thing I ever saw leving New York was an empty greyhound bus.

  • ARETHEYNUTS

I moved from socialist California after living my entire life there (53 years) to Arizona. I bought a gun, rented a house for $1000 cheaper, insurance, taxes, gas everything went down. I couldn't be happier. If Arizona doesn't keep in step with the Constution, Than Texas here I come

New Yorkers can't escape the communist state, (the tolls are to expensive) transportation is only geared to intercity. Cab drivers avoid tolls to make a profit. Not everyone has the extra cash to fly, railout or own a car in New York.

  • Brabado

Still remember the times when New York Governors were brilliant, educated, and a true patriots!
Certainly, New Yorkers miss those wonderful, and productive years, gone by. It appears that mediocrecy, has become the norm... How sad!
GOD PROTECT NEW YORK, AND ALL ITS CITIZENS AGAINST ALL EVILS...

  • Jack_Reacher

Thinking about New Yorker's fleeing to Texas brought smiles to my face. I was trying to imagine how they would handle themselves in a state that doesn't ask much of it's people except, obey the laws and don't be an a**hole. I'm sure New Yorkers can obey laws, but that second one might be a bit tough on some of them.

Things don't "fall off a truck" in Texas. If there's something inside a truck that a Texan wants he will buy it, or buy the whole damn truck. You can do that in Texas. And if you make a success of yourself in business, regardless of the business, in Texas you're looked upon with encouragement and congratulations on your success and not as someone that either cheated or was born into money or just got lucky.

Ten of the best years of my life were those I lived in Texas. Oh, and those that do move to Texas, try the "Roadkill Special", it's some good eating!

  • BeJebus

    Texas is filled with morons.

    • Allen

So people like you have no reason to go there!

    • TxPatrick

      obama voter?

  • Uptite

I will refute your dislikes JM,,,,I know you were here. God Bless you punk!

    LOL Love it!

  • advforops

I can really understand he wants to help them, but even their most conservative are still liberal compare to west of the Miss. They leave that tolet and move to Arizona or Texas and the first thing they say "Well back in New York" If they are from that big city don't allow them you will be sorry.

  • gsreagan

Back in the mid 1970s, while working for Texas Instruments (TI), I (a native born Texan) was privalaged to work with several North East transplants. There was a dialect problem so I offered my "How to Speak Texan" handbook as a way to bridge the gap. Most of them laughed and took on the task. However, two didn't think it was funny. I was even invited out to the back parking lot after hours by one guy from Pittsburgh, but he never appeared. It seem that the Dallas Cowboys whipped up on his beloved Steelers in the Super Bowl. Since I was about a foot taller and probably 50 pounds heavier (and a military veteran) he chickened out.

    • http://www.facebook.com/robert.j.clarke.5 Robert J Clarke

LOL, Dialect problems were invented in Pittsburgh. The east and west ends of PA can't understand each other. Don't cross off Blitzburgh because of one fool who was probably not right because of the heat and lack of humidity. Most Pittsburghers would be happy to show you the town and admit that the Cowboys were the best opponents with the best cheerleaders. Just don't mention the Ravens. PA might be screwed up because of the influence of filthydelphia, but they were smart enough to take Texas fracking and run with it. Obama and every 'green' neocommunist in DC might be close to shutting down the coal industry, but PA natural gas is money, money, money.

  • deesposito1

I'd move to Texas in a heartbeat if I could! Everytime I was down there I felt like I was 'coming home'!

  • williaml

Lets hope the gun owners in New York are conservative

  • http://www.facebook.com/smichaelwilson Scott Wilson

I agree. The more gun owners that move to Texas, the better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/robert.j.clarke.5 Robert J Clarke

Some boys need to sit in the shade for a bit. Crying about how ALL NY residents are liberal morons misses the whole point of the article. You read the article right? The invite was for NY gun owners. To legally own a pistol in this state requires a 3 year process that reserves that honor for the best citizens of NY. Only the most law abiding and lucky, survive the background checks and judge's decision. That is too much for a corrupt creep like Andrew Cuomo, so he has to try and discourage others from even applying and purge those who are armed. As usual, the problem is NY city. Filled with sheeple and corrupt liars like Schumer and Rangel, the numbers of idiots that live there, overwhelm the rest of the state. Imagine every LBJ type moving to Austin and deciding how Texas votes on everything. For now I prefer to channel George Washington and fight the enemy here, But if I decide to follow grandmother Miller who returned fire to drunken Indians outside some dried up central Texas cow town, and move to Texas, it will be your gain and NY's loss. More likely I'd move to the mountains like the other side of the family, but thanks for the invite.

    God Bless Texas.

I understand though there is some restriction on open carry there, which i found suprising in a state that supposedly allows the shooting of car thieves (too which I wholeheartedly agree).
