AIDS Activist Wants to be State Porn Czar

Nobody can say that AIDS Healthcare Foundation president Michael Weinstein isn’t a self-starter.

Weinstein has made a reputation for himself among homosexuals by actually opposing PrEP, a drug that is claimed to block transmission of HIV, saying it is a health care disaster in the making.

His latest adventure makes that seem like small potatoes.

Weinstein is pushing a statewide ballot initiative, which he wrote himself, that would make him a taxpayer-funded “porn czar” in charge of monitoring condom use in pornographic films.

“Conflict of interest” doesn’t even begin to describe this brazen assault on decency and the public treasury.

If the initiative were to pass — and let’s be honest, California, you’re going to vote for this thing due to heavy funding by the latex lobby — then Weinstein would be attached to the office of state Attorney General Kamala Harris as official porn czar.

His primary duties would involve spending his days watching raw footage of porno movies, looking for evidence of anyone not using a condom, visiting porno film sets and, uh, “inspecting.” Who knows? He may even have to go undercover.

As an added bonus, he might occasionally sue the pants off somebody, which shouldn’t take much effort.

Basically, he’d have unlimited authority to harass adult film makers.

The measure is being opposed by free-speech advocacy groups (“free speech” because there’s so much talking in those films) like the Free Speech Coalition, which claims that Weinstein has waged a decade-long war against the adult film industry.

I’m no expert on the topic, at least not compared with your average liberal, but my understanding of the porn industry is that it is about 90% driven by male fantasies, which don’t tend to include wearing the proverbial love glove.

There’s probably a sound psychological argument to be made about liberals of a certain sexual proclivity being hostile to the mainly heterosexual culture portrayed in these types of films, but let’s not even go there.

What this is on the bottom line is yet another example of a busybody nanny state interfering in a successful industry and invoking destructive and pointless regulations that obstruct the industry’s ability to function profitably.

It makes some sort of Progressive sense that California would finally get around to handcuffing the porn industry — and not in a fun way — because it’s one of the few industries that liberals haven’t already chased out of the state.

And per the usual formula, it’s “for the greater good” under the guise of stopping AIDS.

Never mind that the porn industry in California already regulates itself and typically requires the actors to get frequent STD testing.

Nothing could possibly make vicarious perversion any better than the insertion of a flaming California liberal and a box of condoms.

Like with every other human activity, government apparently knows best how to make porn movies. Heck, they’ve been screwing taxpayers since the dawn of time — that should make them experts.
