Is America About To Give Its Ocean Waters To The United Nations?

In 2000, I truly feared the possibility of Al Gore winning the presidency.  At the time, he was the most vocal advocate for turning everything over to the United Nations and forming a one-world government.  Now there is someone almost as bad as Gore who will have full access to sway Obama in the same direction, at least for the next year.

John Podesta is President Obama’s new staff adviser.  Podesta once served as chief of staff to former President Bill Clinton.  He is well known for his liberal views, especially when it comes to the United Nations and climate change.  Podesta is also a member of the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative whose goals are environmentally based.  According to their website:

“The Joint Ocean Commission Initiative works with all sectors of the ocean community to encourage action and monitor progress toward meaningful ocean policy reform…”

“For example, a priority issue of concern is the need to better understand and address the links between oceans and climate change.”

Podesta is also a member of the Global Ocean Commission whose Mandate states:

“The objective of the Commission is to formulate politically and technically feasible short-, medium- and long-term recommendations to address four key issues facing the high seas:”

  • overfishing

  • large-scale loss of habitat and biodiversity

  • the lack of effective management and enforcement

  • deficiencies in high seas governance.

When he joined the GOC, Podesta stated:

“I am delighted to be joining the Global Ocean Commission, which I see as one of the most dynamic initiatives developing commonsense ways to manage fully 45 percent of the globe that remains common property, outside any national jurisdiction.”

On the surface, they may sound nice, but when you delve further into what these commissions are doing and advocating, you may not think they’re so nice after all.  One of the main recommendations being purported by the JOCI is that the US places all of its jurisdictional ocean territory under the control of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

In 2010, Obama formed the Interagency Ocean Policy Taskforce with one of his many executive orders.  Their main recommendation was the same as the JOCI in that the US should turn its entire ocean jurisdiction over to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.  The only thing that stopped it then was stiff opposition from Republicans.

Now, Podesta is going to have Obama’s ear for the next year.  Undoubtedly, he will do everything in his power to convince Obama to turn our waters over to the UN.  Once they have our oceans, they’ll want our rivers that flow into the oceans and then our lakes and streams.  Finally, the UN will want our land and liberals like Obama will try to give it to them.

I don’t know how, but Republicans need to find a way to keep Podesta high and dry on a short leash.  A muzzle over his liberal mouth would also help as I see absolutely no good things coming from his lips.
