It seems that the second someone shoots somebody else, the national media is all over the airwaves with the story. They generally portray it as a senseless act of violence that could have been prevented if people didn’t own guns. It’s not the person’s fault, but the gun’s.
A year and half ago, Jared Lee Loughner opened fire outside a crowded grocery store in Tucson, Arizona, killing six and wounding twelve others including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Gun control advocates came out of the woodwork screaming for more gun control.
A month ago, James Holmes walked into a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, killing twelve and wounding fifty-eight others. Once again, anti-gun advocates crawled out of the cracks and screamed for more gun control. Some action has even been taken to restrict the amount of ammunition one can buy in bulk. Incidentally, the restriction on the purchasing of ammunition will effectively put an end to all competitive trap and skeet shooting in America and eliminate Kimberly Rhode’s chance of winning a sixth consecutive Olympic medal in 2016.
Earlier this month, Wade Michael Page started shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, killing six and wounding four. The anti-gun crowd had not had a chance to crawl into their holes after the Aurora shooting, so they were still out in force hollering and demanding for stricter gun control.
On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, Michael Jacobs kicked in the door to Martha Lewis’s house in Dora, Alabama at 3:00a.m. Lewis was home with her two children when she was awakened by the sound of the door being kicked in. She had a handgun and made sure that Jacobs knew it. He then left but came back, apparently he didn’t feel threatened by her and proceeded towards her. After warning him, Lewis fired and hit Jacobs, causing him to stagger out the front door and collapse on the lawn. Unfortunately, he is listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery, although he is facing a variety of criminal charges.
Interestingly, when a gun was used to protect a mother and her children, none of the national media picked up on the story. Besides the local news and a number of internet sites, such as Patriot Update, seem to be the only ones with the integrity to cover the story. The national media can’t print news stories that would give people the idea that guns are good and can be used for self-protection as it would undermine their anti-gun bias.
I, on the other hand, would like the whole world to know that there are people like Martha Lewis out there that are armed and ready to shoot any intruders or anyone that threatens their loved ones. More Americans need to follow her example as it will make some people think twice about doing something as stupid as what Michael Jacobs did. All I can tell you is that if it happened at my house, Jacobs would be in the morgue instead of recuperating in a hospital.
