Secretary of State John Kerry and White House Trespasser Barack Obama are trying to convince Congress and the American people to lift sanctions against Iran. They claim that the UN Security Council sanctions state that some of the sanctions will be lifted just by Iran agreeing to negotiate a nuclear deal. Kerry has publicly stated:
“Read U.N. resolution 1929. It says that if Iran comes to the table to negotiate, all the sanctions will be lifted.”
The restrictions being referred to are those involving arms and ballistic missiles. Kerry and Obama want those restrictions lifted simply because of Iran’s presence at the negotiating table.
However, an examination of the UN resolution doesn’t read the way Kerry and Obama are claiming it does. Paragraph 37 of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1929 (2010) states:
“37. Affirms that it shall review Iran’s actions in light of the report referred to in paragraph 36 above, to be submitted within 90 days, and: (a) that it shall suspend the implementation of measures if and for so long as Iran suspends all enrichment related and reprocessing activities, including research and development, as verified by the IAEA, to allow for negotiations in good faith in order to reach an early and mutually acceptable outcome; (b) that it shall terminate the measures specified in paragraphs 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 12 of resolution 1737 (2006), as well as in paragraphs 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 of resolution 1747 (2007), paragraphs 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 of resolution 1803 (2008), and in paragraphs 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23 and 24 above, as soon as it determines, following receipt of the report referred to in the paragraph above, that Iran has fully complied with its obligations under the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and met the requirements of the IAEA Board of Governors, as confirmed by the IAEA Board of Governors; (c) that it shall, in the event that the report shows that Iran has not complied with resolutions 1737 (2006), 1747 (2007), 1803 (2008) and this resolution, adopt further appropriate measures under Article 41 of Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations to persuade Iran to comply with these resolutions and the requirements of the IAEA, and underlines that further decisions will be required should such additional measures be necessary;”
Take careful note that this paragraph specifies that Iran must suspend ALL enrichment-related and reprocessing activities. The deal worked out by Kerry only reduces the enrichment-related activities of Iran. The Iranian leaders refused to agree to any deal that forces them to stop all enrichment activities and there are a number of reports indicating that Iran is violating their commitments to halt uranium enrichment activities.
It’s issues like this that cause many around the world and in the US to question the deal and consequence actions of Kerry and Obama concerning the Iran nuclear deal. Israel has declared the deal a dangerous step towards their annihilation. Conservative members of Congress are also questioning just how effective this deal is and are skeptical of removing the arms and ballistic missile sanctions from Iran.
Iran has a track record very similar to Obama’s. It’s one filled with secrecy, lies and deception. Iran has proven time and again that you cannot believe what they say or trust them to do what they tell you, much like Obama.
So either Kerry and Obama can’t read and are ignorant of what the UN resolution really says or they are deliberately lying. As much as I dislike both men, I don’t think they are that stupid. Rather, looking at the track record of both men, I firmly believe that they are intentionally lying about what the resolution says in order to accomplish their ill-gotten agenda.
