Maybe they’re trying to drum up another “October surprise” by releasing a poll that shows that the majority of white respondents are racist toward blacks and Latinos. Pollsters are lamenting that white people’s attitudes towards blacks haven’t gotten any better since Obama took office. According to the Associated Press poll, racial attitudes towards blacks have gotten worse over the last 4 years:
“In all, 51 percent of Americans now express explicit anti-black attitudes, compared with 48 percent in a similar 2008 survey. When measured by an implicit racial attitudes test, the number of Americans with anti-black sentiments jumped to 56 percent, up from 49 percent during the last presidential election. In both tests, the share of Americans expressing pro-black attitudes fell. ‘As much as we’d hope the impact of race would decline over time … it appears the impact of anti-black sentiment on voting is about the same as it was four years ago,’ said Jon Krosnick, a Stanford University professor who worked with AP to develop the survey.”
I guess they thought that Obama really was going to “bring everybody together.” The Obama administration and their media have done more to segregate races into groups and to pit them against each other than any other administration. “Divide and conquer” is the name of their game, and I’d be surprised if the Obama administration didn’t look at this poll as evidence of progress.
But what’s being completely excluded from their poll? Why are they completely ignoring people’s anti-white sentiment? Do they really think it doesn’t exist or is not important? Why do they hate white people so much? They’re rehashing the tired, old narrative that only whites can be racist. Blacks are never racist. They’re misunderstood victims in an oppressive white society.
I’m sure this poll will be used on various “expert panels” on news outlets like MSNBC to show that people are going to be voting “against” Obama because he’s black (half-white), another tired, old narrative. They will not, however, talk about the millions of blacks who will be voting “against” Romney because he’s white. They would find that notion laughable and logically impossible, because blacks aren’t racist.
I’m sure there are a number of white racists who will not be voting for Obama mainly because he’s black. But how many black celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson have come out supporting Obama, not because of his phony message of hope, but simply because of the color of his skin? Can you imagine what would happen if Clint Eastwood released a video saying that he didn’t care about Romney’s message, and that he was only voting for Romney because he’s white? What would the media do with that? They would call Samuel L. Jackson a “proud African-American who’s standing up for minorities” and Clint Eastwood a racist.
I want to see a poll that shows how Americans’ anti-white sentiment has changed over the last 4 years. On second thought, the very nature of such a poll would be racist.
