Atheists Ask Courts to Ban 9/11 Cross

Amid the crumbled dust covered ruins of theTwinTowers, workers removing the debris discovered a set of steel beams that intersected each other to form a cross.  The cross was saved and has now been erected as part of the 9/11 memorial located at Ground Zero.

Now the group known as American Atheists, have filed a lawsuit demanding that the cross be removed or that symbols of other religions be added.  Dave Silverman, president of American Atheists claims that the attack on the World Trade Center was an attack against the nation as a whole but Christianity has secured representation at the memorial in the form of the cross to the exclusion of all other religions.

In defense of the cross, Reverend Brian Jordan pointed out that people of many religions gathered around the cross to pray collectively when he blessed it.

Officials from the 9/11 museum have said that the steel beams forming the cross are not necessarily a Christian symbol but rather it also represented the aftermath of the attacks.  Museum president Joe Daniels explained it:

The mission of the National September 11 Memorial Museum is to tell the history of 9/11 through historic artefacts like the World Trade Center cross. This steel remnant became a symbol of spiritual comfort for the thousands of recovery workers who toiled at ground zero, as well as for people around the world.

I agree that the attack on the World Trade Center was an attack on America as a nation, but why did the radical Muslim community target America in the first place?  They repeatedly said that this was a Jihad – a holy war – against the Christian infidel nation of America.  Those responsible for the attack have equated America and Christianity and have vowed to continue to wage this holy war against us.

I’ve never read or heard any Al Qaeda member or radical Muslim declare that their attack onAmericawas aimed at the Jewish, Buddhist or atheist sectors of America.  Their attacks were aimed at Christian America.

If Dave Silverman and the American Atheists don’t like the idea that America has always been a Christian nation, then perhaps they should get the hell out of America instead of trying to drag it down to Hell!
