“Austerity Measures” To Begin in Ohio Next Year

Obama supporters vowed to riot in the streets and murder Romney if he won the election mostly because they believed he would take away their food stamps. Now that Obama has been re-elected, his administration is doing the very thing his supporters went ballistic thinking Romney would do. The USDA plans on cutting food stamp benefits by about $50 per month, per household recipient in Ohio. ToledoBlade.com reported:

The average food-stamp recipient receives $138 per person, per month, according to state statistics. As of August, more than 1.7 million individual Ohioans, or about 869,000 families, received the assistance. A total of $3 billion in benefits was issued in 2011 in Ohio; the program is federally funded… Because of the way the federal government calculates utility expenses for people receiving the benefit, a mild winter nationwide last year, and a lower price for natural gas, many families could experience a significant cut in aid.

This isn’t Ohio’s doing; it’s the USDA that’s making Ohio cut their benefits. Ohio’s Department of Job and Family Services administers the food stamp program, and they appealed the USDA’s decision, but the USDA denied their request. These cuts would result in an annual cut of $520 million for Ohioans below the poverty line.

So get ready next year to start seeing food stamp riots because people’s benefits are being cut. This is just what happens when the government tries to take care of people from cradle to grave. It doesn’t work. I understand that there are people out there who are elderly and/or disabled who have worked as much as they could throughout their lives but are in real need of assistance. Just because there are people that truly need financial assistance doesn’t mean that the government is the place to get it.

If you found out your employer was trillions of dollars in debt, wouldn’t you want to find a different job where the company you worked for was financially solvent? The government is over $16 trillion in debt. Is it at all surprising that at some point, they were going to have to start cutting welfare programs? Our government is bankrupt. They have no business claiming they can help the poor when they’re flat out broke themselves.

Historically, churches helped those in need. Hospitals and orphanages used to be largely run by churches. Some are still able to help the poor through various charitable organizations, but it’s becoming harder and harder the more the State takes over. People helping the poor through voluntary means was far more effective than any government program because these people truly wanted to help. The State just wants to control people through the redistribution of wealth. Ever since the State has taken over in “providing for the poor,” poverty has skyrocketed, and come January, the poor will get a little bit poorer.
