The latest clash between the playground bullies again made national headlines. The While House announced that President Obama intended to address the joint House and Senate to deliver his latest jobs plan. The only problem was that the date and time just happened to coincide with the next major televised debate between the Republican Presidential candidates.
Republicans naturally balked at the timing and House Speaker John Boehner took to the President like a pitbull after a t-bone. When it became apparent that Boehner was not going to loosen his grip, the President finally agreed to move his speech back one night. The only problem was that it now conflicted with the opening night of Thursday night NFL football, but to the last of my knowledge, the NFL has not requested another change of time.
I watched several different news reports covering the squabble between Obama and Boehner. Some of the coverage did their best to make Speaker Boehner look like a kid throwing a temper tantrum and others compared it to playground antics between a couple of bullies.
One national news anchor surprised me when he reported on the whole incident. He stated that the White House claimed that they did not intentionally schedule the speech to conflict with the Republican debate, but he didn’t believe them and said that few in America would either. He said that the White House and the President either had to have intentionally tried to conflict with the Republican debate or someone on the White House was totally incompetent for not knowing about the debate. Either way, it was a very stupid thing for the President and White House staff to try to pull.
If you ask me, I truly believe that the day and time was specifically chosen by Obama and his staff to purposefully detract from the debate. And when he realized that he wasn’t going to get away with it that he lied about the reasons and tried to cover up his intent. Sadly, this fits in with the character of the President and his staff as they continue to lie and sneak around and then expect the American people to be so stupid that they believe his excuses.
I’ve got news for you Mr. President, if you really want to find out who is stupid enough to believe your lies and deceptions, I would suggest you look in the mirror, because those of out outside your window don’t buy it.
