I am not endorsing bullying and do believe it to be wrong. However, I don’t agree with some of the new anti-bullying laws and rules being set forth by schools and states as they can be used to violate the First Amendment rights to free speech and the freedom of religion. In some instances, there seems to be evidence that the Obama administration is using anti-bullying laws for the said purpose of suppressing one’s rights to express their own personal, political or religious beliefs.
In Tennessee, several state legislatures along with a family organization, are trying to push for an amendment to the state’s anti-bullying law that would protect the First Amendment rights of student to express their religious and political views.
The bill’s sponsors, Sen Jim Tracey and Rep Vance Dennis, say the proposed amendment:
“Shall not be construed or interpreted to infringe upon the First Amendment rights of students and shall not prohibit their expression of religious, philosophical, or political views, provided, that such expression does not include a threat of physical harm to a student or damage to a student’s property.”
Family Action Council of Tennessee president David Fowler added that the goals of this measure are meant to support,
“That all students deserve to be protected from bullying and that bullying is categorically inappropriate in Tennessee schools. The second purpose is to set forth in the statutes for the guidance of administrators, the parameters of the First Amendment rights that students have while in school, according to what the courts have said.”
And wouldn’t you know it; all of the liberals and liberal media have ignored the truth of the initiative and have been using their First Amendment rights to bully those proposing the amendment. CNN ran headlines reading “Critics say proposed Tenn. bill would enable harassment.”
Worse yet was the Huffington Post that ran with the article, “With God on their side: The Tennessee Pro-Bully Bill.” In their article, they described the amendment as,
“A proposed change in a Tennessee law could protect students who engage in anti-gay bullying if they do so for religious reasons.”
Chris Sanders of the Tennessee Equality Project told a Nashville television station,
“This kind of legislation can send a message that it’s OK to hate and we’ll even give you religious sanction for it. What if one student calls another one a sinner, or a sodomite or says you’re perverted or you’re unnatural or you are going to hell? That’s where it gets really dicey.”
Amanda Mole from the Examiner wrote that the proposed amendment,
Could allow bullying of homosexual students if it is religiously motivated.”
The list of similar statements is long, revealing just how far the liberal left will go to infringe on the rights of many to give preferential treatment to a few. What they want is the right to express their perverted views, but if anyone disagrees with them, they are not allowed to express it. In other words, a homosexual can openly advocate their sinful lifestyle, but if a Christian says they believe it is a sin and against God’s teaching, they will be punished for bullying and hate language.
That folks is not equality under the law. It is suppression of the constitutional rights of anyone that disagrees with atheists, homosexuals or other Democrats. These bullying laws as written could be used to shut up Christians, straight sexed individuals and Republicans.
Without a provision like the amendment being proposed in Tennessee, the current bullying laws are fascist in nature and seem to be part of the Obama administration’s plan to strip away all of our freedoms. It’s only one more step in the staircase leading to the hangman’s noose and you know who will be swinging from the rope.
