Christian Alternative to Gay Infected Boy Scouts Will Also Accept Gays?

For over a century, the Boy Scouts of America stood tall and proud as a Christian based organization to help teach boys many of the skills that they will use throughout their life.  When I was a boy, not only was I involved with the Boy Scouts, but so were my two older brothers, my mom and dad.  The scout troop was sponsored by our church and it was an outreach of the church, teaching Christian values and morals.

That’s why it pained me so to see them succumb to the pressures of a sinful and vile society.  Instead of standing strong on their Christian foundation, the Boy Scouts of America allowed their values to be compromised and torn down when they voted to allow gays into their midst.  As a Christian, I felt the compromise was destructive and devastating.  As a parent, I found the thought of gay scouts sleeping in the same tent as someone’s straight son to be abhorrent and dangerous.  I know that when I was a scout I would have beat up any boy that tried to do anything sexual with me and I expect it to happen sometime in the future.  When it does happen, it will be viewed as a hate crime instead of sexual self-defense and the good scout will suffer the brunt of our perverted laws.

But hope is on the horizon.  A new Christian alternative to the Boy Scouts will soon be announced.  The organization is being formed by a number of former Boy Scouts who still value their conservative Christian faith, ideals, morals and virtues.  One of the men involved is John Stemberger, Founder of OnMyHonor.Net explained:

“We have direct communication from over 30,000 leaders, parents, and people within the scouting movement who have specifically said ‘we want to be involved.”

Rob Green, a 20 year veteran as an executive with the Boy Scouts is serving as the current interim Executive Director of the newly forming organization.  He said that 50 leaders met on June 29 to create the new scout-like organization, which is still unnamed at this point.  Green said:

“We are trying to make sure that families who have felt a little bit left behind by the divergent values of the Boy Scouts — that there is something for them that they can join and know what they stand for.”

“It’s our vision to be the premier national character development organization for young men, which produces godly and responsible husbands, fathers, and citizens.  The new program will be an exciting and motivating outdoor-based program focused on leadership and character development for boys, and founded on principles and values that reflect a Christian worldview.”

“Our mission is simple and clear: to guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure.”

“In addition, the organization’s membership policy will focus on sexual purity rather than sexual orientation.  The policy will read, in part: ‘the proper context for sexual relations is only between a man and a woman in the covenant of marriage.’”

“For 100 years terms like ‘morally straight’ and ‘clean and reverent’ that are in the Boy Scout oath and law were understood from a Christian worldview.  The founder of scouting even said ‘scouting is nothing more than applied Christianity.’ So we are trying to restore that ideal.”

Although the new organization will be open to all faiths, they are determined to stick to standard Christian faith and values.  Boys and their parents need to understand that this is a Christian based organization before joining up.

The organization is planning on holding a convention in September in Nashville where they will officially unveil their name and logo.  Registration for new units will begin in November and the program itself will launch on January 1, 2014.

It all sounds good, except that Stemberger said that they will not question a boy’s sexuality nor will they refuse to admit gays.  I found that statement to be very disheartening after everything that was said about the new group.  How can you teach standard Christian values while accepting gay members?  If they are going to allow gays into their ranks, then what makes them any different from the Boy Scouts?  They say they are taking these steps because the Boy Scouts voted to allow gays to join, but then they turn around and say that they will not reject gays from joining their new organization.  They are compromising just as much as the Boy Scouts.  It reminds me of Rev. 3:15-16 which says:

“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot.  Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”
