Country Star Found with Loaded Weapon in NC Airport

Well known country music artist and the season 10 winner of “American Idol” was cited for having a loaded firearm in his possession at a North Carolina airport.

Earlier this month, Scotty McCreery got stopped at a security checkpoint by authorities. Since he is a well known celebrity this was probably not an uncommon experience for him, a picture here, autograph there and he would be on his way. Not this time, instead he was cited by authorities for having a loaded 9mm handgun in his possession.

Authorities at Raleigh-Durham International Airport said that on July 13th they retreived the weapon which was buried in McCreery’s backpack. The country artist explained to authorities that while in his home state of North Carolina he visited a firing range and sinply forgot to take the firearm out of his bag before heading to the airport. He was on his way to Nashville, Tenn.

Fox News reports:

McCreery, 23, had a valid concealed carry permit with him, authorities said. He was cited for a misdemeanor concealed weapon permit violation and released.

“I have been a concealed carry permit holder for a while now after being robbed at gunpoint in 2014 and I take gun safety very seriously,” McCreery told People. “While in-between tour dates last week, I went to go target shooting with a friend a few days before an early flight out of my hometown Raleigh-Durham airport.”

McCreery added, “Unfortunately, I did not realize that I left my pistol in my backpack until the TSA found it during the security X-ray screening and rightly confiscated it,” he continued, “I had my concealed carry permit on me so once they had checked everything out, they then released me to catch the next available flight. Great to know our airport security force is on the job. I have learned a lesson that I won’t forget.”

This just goes to show that even law abiding citizens can make a mistakes every now and then! Always remember to check your guns in properly at the airport or leave them at home!
