Even before the October 1, 2013 launch date for Obamacare was upon us, the federal government and most states knew that it was going to be a tough sell. Hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money was being spent to entice taxpayers into enrolling and purchasing healthcare insurance through the federal or state exchange programs.
California received $43 million of federal money to promote and brainwash people into enrolling in the Covered California state exchange. Some of those funds were even used for Obamacare propaganda in state high schools and colleges.
In California, the main target group is the uninsured Hispanic community. Considering that the Hispanic population of California is surpassing any other ethnic group in numbers, it’s understandable as to why the state is targeting them for affordable healthcare.
As of January 15, only about 600,000 people have enrolled in Covered California. That’s barely a drop in the bucket compared to the 38 million residents in the state.
Out of the 600,000 successful enrollees, only 20% of them identify themselves as Latino on their application. This indicates that Covered California is failing to reach their intended target just as the national Obamacare is failing to reach their targets of the unemployed along with the young and healthy.
So what do liberal Democrats do when times get desperate? They turn to whatever means possible to reach their intended goal, no matter if it is ethical or not. Just look at how Hillary Clinton continues to lie about Benghazi or how Obama uses the IRS to target conservatives, patriots and Christians.
In California, they are turning to short videos that basically lay a guilt trip on the members of the Hispanic community. Their main video is titled Days of Action and starts out with a statement from former labor leader Cesar Chavez. Then we hear the narration of Dolores Huerta, a community activist and co-founder of the United Farm Workers and president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.
Huerta tells California’s that Latinos need to enroll in Covered California to make the program work for others. It’s their duty to sign up for medical insurance they can’t afford all for the sake of every other Hispanic in the state. Townhall’s Christine Rousselle described the video this way:
“To recap: if you are a you Latino living in California who hasn’t signed up for Obamacare, you are disappointing all of your ancestors, you’re an irresponsible citizen, your grandparents and older relatives are doomed, and you might even be responsible for a man having a heart attack and a pregnant woman looking really sad. Gotcha. Thanks, Dolores!”
So why is California having so much trouble signing up Hispanics for socialist healthcare?
The two most popular reasons seem to be the ineptness of the Spanish language Covered California website and the fact that the healthcare policies offered through the state exchange are too expensive for many young Hispanics. Back in mid-January, it was reported that the CuidadoDeSalud.gov website was so poorly written that many people that have spoken Spanish their whole life are having great difficulty understanding it.
All of Obamacare is dependent on a large number of healthy young people enrolling and purchasing their healthcare insurance through the exchange programs. The theory is that they will require little medical care and thus their premiums will help pay for the care given to the older and sicker portions of the population. If not enough young healthy people sign up, then there won’t be enough revenue to pay for the older and sicker people’s treatments and the entire insurance industry collapses unless the federal government spends hundreds of billions of dollars to bail them out like they did the auto and banking industries.
Hence, officials in California and probably elsewhere are being forced to turn to desperate measures to get the young and healthy to enroll and buy. In California, that means the large Hispanic population and at this point, I don’t think they care if they are legally here in the US or not.
