Don Lemon & Guns: Are We Sitting Ducks?

Don Lemon, the openly homosexual host of CNN Newsroom is obviously no conservative. But in a recent attack on the NRA and a plea for Obama to “do something” about gun crime, common sense seemed to escape from his mouth.

To be fair, though, this isn’t the first time Lemon has allowed logic and facts to affect his speech. He was willing to go further than Bill O’Reilly about how African American may be hurting themselves. Condemning sagging pants and the use of the N-word got him in a lot of trouble with many other liberals.

In this case, Lemon was speaking out for severe gun prohibition and demonizing the NRA. (Don, they’re the most powerful lobby in the country only because they are supported by a vast majority of Americans; get over it.) Nevertheless, he swerved from the Liberal mantras into dangerous territory:

“Speaking with radio host Tom Joyner this morning on BlackAmericaWeb.com, CNN anchor Don Lemon admitted that a recent study about mass shootings in America has made him rethink his positions on gun control.”

Some of his re-thinking is actually worse. Lemon has realized that banning “assault” rifles would barely dent the gun homicide rates. Deaths from mass shootings are low. The gun crime that kills is street crime.

“You have a better chance of getting shot walking down your street, getting into an altercation, or getting robbed in cities like New Orleans, Detroit, Baltimore, Miami, D.C., Atlanta or Cleveland than you do getting shot or killed in a mass shooting.”

But since Lemon realizes that achieving that level of working gun prohibition will never happen, he reasoned himself from stringent gun control into advocating gun ownership!

“Lemon wondered aloud whether the failure of lawmakers to ‘step up’ and impose stricter gun registration and background check laws might mean ‘that by some of us not owning a gun, or at least embracing the idea of one, are we setting ourselves up to be victims in a movie theater, a school, a public building, most of all in our streets, in our own neighborhoods, and in our own homes? And armed with just our cellphones, our fists, and our wits, are we setting ourselves up to be sitting ducks?’ he asked. ‘Defenseless in the face of a sane, or an insane person, armed to the teeth and bent on killing.’”

Of course, this line of thinking is toxic to the Left. Even on the basis of an insane premise (“Our government should ban all these firearms but, because they won’t, I need one.”), if people begin buying handguns and learning to shoot, liberal anti-second-amendment culture will die. Such people will start interacting at gun clubs and shooting ranges with others who believe differently than they do. Politicians who start obstructing their gun ownership will be unwelcome interferers because, thinking like gun owners, they will now realize that criminals are still going to be armed. The entire pro-disarmament mentality will evaporate.

I can only hope that Don Lemon influences many liberals.
