I am always amazed and saddened to see just how far some Christians will to compromise the Word of God in order to justify their sins or a sinful lifestyle. They remind me of a child who is given a plate full of good healthy food, only for the child to sit and pick at the food, eating only what they want to and hoping to throw the rest in the garbage. That’s what so many Christians are doing with God’s Word these days; they are picking and choosing what principles they want to accept and what ones they want to ignore and throw in the garbage.
Case in point is a new group formed earlier this month who is calling themselves Evangelicals for Marriage Equality. Their goal is to persuade as many Christians as possible to compromise their faith into accepting the legitimacy of same-sex marriages.
Among their new leadership are Brian McLaren, Christian author and speaker, Richard Cizik, former vice president of the National Association of Evangelicals and Chris LaTondresse, former faith adviser for USAID (United States Agency for International Development – the same organization that Obama is using to funnel millions of taxpayer dollars into his home country of Kenya).
Brandan Robertson, spokesman for the new group stated:
“Our organization is not taking a theological position on the issue of the sacrament of marriage. We just want evangelicals to see that it is possible to hold a plethora of beliefs about sexuality and marriage while affirming the rights of LGBTQ men and women to be civilly married under the law.”
Oh really? Please tell me in the Bible where it says we are to set God’s Word aside in order to look at other worldviews? In Matthew 12:30 and recorded again in Luke 11:23, Jesus said:
“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”
That seems pretty clear to me. Either you live and abide by God’s Word or your are against Him. It’s pretty plain and simple. That doesn’t leave any wiggle room for compromisers who say they are an evangelical group but that they are not taking a theological position on the matter of same-sex marriage.
So what does God say about same-sex marriage and homosexuality?
Leviticus 18:22 states:
“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”
Leviticus 20:13 goes even farther saying:
“If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.”
Mind you these are God’s words, not mine and I am not about to question God. But so many liberal compromising Christians are questioning God’s words when they tell me that this was the Old Testament and that Jesus changed all of that. WRONG!!! Jesus only fulfilled the temple laws, He never replaced any of the other Old Testament laws.
In Matthew 19: 3-5 Jesus answers the Pharisees question about divorce saying:
“And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?” He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
Jesus said nothing about being created male and male or female and female, nor did He say anything about a man cleaving to his husband or a woman cleaving to her wife.
In fact, the Apostle Paul emphasizes that sin of homosexuality in Romans 1:18-31. Three times he writes that because of their rebellion against God, He turned them over to their sinful lusts and desires, including homosexuality (v. 26-27). It’s clear that our country’s acceptance of homosexuality and the sinful lust of men for other men and women for other women is a sign that we are under God’s judgment for turning away from Him and His statutes.
Cultures may change but God’s Word never does. I’m told by some that the Bible was meant for the culture back then, but not now. We have progressed beyond that. Actually they mean that they have digressed away from God’s Word which is why our country is in such a mess right now.
So by trying to get Christians to accept same-sex marriage and homosexuality, Evangelicals for Marriage Equality are actually turning their backs on God’s Word and thus they ARE taking a theological stand on the issue. They are either for God or against God, but you can’t play both sides of the issue. Homosexuality is a sin and an abomination to God, therefore same-sex marriage is also an abominable sin and should not be allowed or tolerated in any way shape or form!
