I don’t believe I have ever seen a photograph of a pope shaking his fist in anger, but that is exactly the image of Pope Francis that is circulating the globe today after ISIS released a video showing the beheadings of 21 Christians.
Some of the victims can be seen and heard praying even up to the moment they are killed.
“Today I read about the execution of those twenty-one or twenty-two Coptic Christians,” the pope said. “Their only words were: ‘Jesus, help me!’ They were killed simply because they were Christians.”
The pope continued: “The blood of our Christian brothers and sisters is a witness that cries out to be heard. It makes no difference whether they be Catholics, Orthodox, Copts or Protestants. They are Christians! Their blood is one and the same. Their blood confesses Christ.”
Meanwhile, the White House and the Left were having a hard time processing what their favorite advocates of the “religion of peace” had been up to, with CNN and other news outlets couching stories by saying the video “purports” or “appears to show” the beheadings of 21 Christians.
I’ll spare you having to watch it. This is what happens in the video: A bunch of masked ISIS types march 21 people in orange jumpsuits, their hands bound, out to a sandy area. The ISIS leader gives some blah-blah about mighty Allah and sending a message to “crusaders” while the condemned prisoners can be heard praying to Jesus. Then the slaughter commences, blood flows and the ISIS jerks laugh. Roll credits.
There’s absolutely nothing purported or “appearing to show” about the video. It’s a bunch of murderous Islamic barbarians slaughtering Christians, all right.
Yet, the White House in its statement against the beheadings couldn’t even bring itself to use the word “Christian” in describing the victims. According to the White House, the victims were “citizens” and “innocents,” but not Christian.
Just like the ISIS monsters in the video were not Islamic, no doubt.
In Iraq and Syria, while the U.S. dithers and occasionally launches a poorly aimed missile in its phony-baloney non-war/war on ISIS, growing numbers of volunteers from countries around the world are coming to fight against ISIS on the ground.
Similarly, Muslims from around the globe are coming to join ISIS.
With only moderate help from the world’s governments — Jordan and now Egypt, which has begun bombing ISIS in Libya, where the video was shot — the people of the world are beginning to understand what’s at stake in this war.
The groundwork for this growing conflict was all laid by Obama. I’m not sure if this was exactly the result he intended, but it’s his baby all the way. Between the Arab Spring in which we fomented the overthrow of Moammar Gadhafi in Libya and of other previously stable governments, and the chaos left in Iraq as U.S. troops withdrew prematurely, Nobel Peace Prize winner Obama’s legacy in the Middle East is chaos and war.
Now Obama and most of the rest of the world’s governments are sitting on the sidelines as forces gather for two sides.
This isn’t just Muslim vs. Christian, this is barbarism vs. civilization. It is ultimately about good vs. evil, just as surely as the fight against the Nazis was in World War II. The forces of villainy have simply traded in their tight pants and jack boots for dishdashas and hijabs.
This is a fight that seems destined to consume the world, and only the willfully ignorant, such as the people in Washington, can’t see it coming.
