Fox News Analyst: NSA Whistleblower Deserves Death Penalty

If you’re like Lindsey Graham, and you think that there’s nothing at all wrong with our over bloated, corrupt, scandal-ridden government snooping on, collecting, and storing electronic data on every single American, then you’ll call NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden a traitor who has threatened America’s national security. I mean, what could be wrong with what the NSA is doing? They’re just trying to keep us safe. And if you’ve done nothing wrong, you should have nothing to hide, right?

What if we use that mantra against them? If the NSA have done nothing wrong, why are they and their proponents so outraged that this former employee leaked information about what they are really up to? If they’ve done nothing wrong, they should have nothing to hide.

There were plenty of documents that he could have leaked that could have potentially harmed America’s national security. But he chose only those documents that simply shed light on the agency’s policy of blatantly violating Americans’ 4th Amendment liberties manifested in Project PRISM. Every cell phone call, text message, e-mail, instant message, skype conversation, username/password, Facebook update, etc. is being collected and stored.

Of course proponents of this snooping are calling Snowden a traitor. They want to do and say anything that will discourage future whistleblowers from exposing criminal behavior within our government. Even calling for their deaths. This is what Lt. Col. And Fox News analyst Ralph Peters had to say:

“Look, show me one American, one law-abiding American citizen, who is hurt by any of these NSA programs. None. They’re keeping us safe. If the intel community backs off and doesn’t do this stuff, and there’s a terrorist attack, then it’s an intelligence failure. If they do this stuff, well it’s Big Brother snooping. Now you’ve got this 29-year-old high school dropout whistleblower, making foreign policy for our country, our security policy, and the guy – I think it’s sad…we’ve made treason cool. Betraying your country is kind of a fashion statement. He wants to be the national security Kim Kardashian…I mean, we need to get very, very serious about treason. And oh, by the way, for treason – as in the case of Bradley Manning or Edward Snowden – you bring back the death penalty.”

Now, hold on a second. Who exactly is guilty of treason here? The government that is openly violating the Constitution under the hackneyed guise of national security, or the guy trying to tell everyone about it?

This analyst doesn’t view what the NSA is doing as criminal. He’s probably one of these guys who think the 4th Amendment is anachronistic. And since we live in a post-9/11 world, no one should expect any level of privacy. Unless you’re a part of the “intelligence community,” in which case you deserve all the privacy in the world.
