‘God Isn’t Fixing This’

Thursday morning’s New York Daily News front page featured the following huge headline ‘God Isn’t Fixing This,’ referring to the latest mass shooting in San Bernardino. They followed that up with an article blasting all of the Republican 2016 presidential candidates for their stance against stricter gun control. Most of the GOP candidates have offered prayers for the victims and their families and the liberal New York tabloid attacked them for that.

My response to the headline is ‘why should God fix this when we as nation have turned our backs on Him?’

Nearly 250 years ago, colonial America largely held God at the center of their lives. Many came here for the right to worship God the way they felt appropriate. They fought against British tyranny to preserver that right to freely worship God. If you study the Revolutionary War, every fact clearly indicates that the British should have won the war and kept us under the yoke of their tyrannical rule. However, there are a number of events that happened during the bloody conflict that proved to leaders like George Washington that it was only by the blessings of God that America won its independence. In 1778, Washington wrote to Brigadier General Nelson of Virginia, saying:

“The hand of Providence has been conspicuous in all this, that he must be worse than an infidel that lacks faith, and more than wicked that has not gratitude enough to acknowledge his obligations. But it will be time enough for me to turn preacher when my present appointment ceases; and therefore I shall add no more on the doctrine of Providence.” [William J. Johnson, George Washington the Christian, The Abingdon Press, New York, 1919, p. 119-120.]

As long as America remained a Christian nation, God continued to keep His hand of blessing upon our nation. However, the mid 1960’s, America starting turning its back on God, banning Him from public schools and government. As America turned its back on God, God withdrew His hand of blessing and protection from America, letting our nation fall into ruin at the hands of evil leaders.

This is why America is witnessing so much crime and violence. This is why America is experiencing more and more mass shootings.

The only way God will fix this, is for America as a nation follows 2 Chronicles 7:14 which states:

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Until this happens, nothing we do as a nation will turn the tide of senseless violence, inhumane crimes and barbaric actions that have become part of our lives.
