For months now, former Secretary of State and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has been pooh-poohing her email scandal, saying no classified information went over her private email server.
Can we get a buzzer on that? Thanks for playing, Hill.
On Thursday, a couple of investigators called for a criminal investigation into her handling of emails. The New York Times gave her the usual benefit of the doubt, even rewriting their lede and headline at her handlers’ request to soften the PR blow to her campaign.
On Friday, however, the NYT reported that the investigators are now saying in no mincing terms that they found at least four instances of classified information that was on Hillary’s server.
The campaign tried to manage the damage, saying the information was not classified at the time Hillary sent the emails but was only classified after the fact.
But the NYT reported, “But the inspectors general of the State Department and the nation’s intelligence agencies said the information they found was classified when it was sent and remains so now.”
If you’re hearing the sounds of breaking glass right now, that may be Hillary’s presidential chances.
Don’t hold your breath for an evening news perp walk, but this could be good news for conservatives and the country nonetheless.
The NYT goes on to say that voters seem unswayed by the issue of Hillary’s emails, but recent Gallup information shows avowed socialist Bernie Sanders pulling ahead of Hillary. Plus, if the NYT is no longer providing cover, then it’s hard to see Clinton surviving in the rest of the media.
House Speaker John Boehner dried his eyes and left the latest Democratic cocktail party long enough to demand Clinton turn over her server, complete with emails.
“Secretary Clinton has repeatedly claimed that the work-related emails on her private home server did not include classified information,” he said in a statement. “But we know that is not true. She has claimed she is well-aware of what matters are classified and what are not, and yet she set up a personal email server to discuss matters of national security despite guidance to the contrary from both her State Department and the White House. Her poor judgement has undermined our national security and it is time for her to finally do the right thing.”
This is Hillary “What Does It Matter About Benghazi” Clinton we’re talking about, so don’t expect her to comply with anything.
But if she just continues to twist in the wind for the rest of the presidential campaign, that may be good enough as far as hopes for America’s future are concerned.
Now, if we can only get a real conservative GOP nominee. …
