Holder Says Single Failure of His Role as AG was Not Passing Gun Control Laws

According to the official website of the United States Attorney General:

“The Judiciary Act of 1789 created the Office of the Attorney General which evolved over the years into the head of the Department of Justice and chief law enforcement officer of the Federal Government. The Attorney General represents the United States in legal matters generally and gives advice and opinions to the President and to the heads of the executive departments of the Government when so requested. In matters of exceptional gravity or importance the Attorney General appears in person before the Supreme Court. Since the 1870 Act that established the Department of Justice as an executive department of the government of the United States, the Attorney General has guided the world’s largest law office and the central agency for enforcement of federal laws.”

If you notice, the role of the Attorney General is that of official legal counsel for the President and the United States as well as enforcing the laws of the land. There is nothing in their official description that says anything about the Attorney General having any role in the passage of laws other than offering legal advice when asked.

Yet, outgoing US Attorney General Eric Holder believes his single greatest failure in office was not being able to enact gun control laws. This came out in an interview with MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry:

Harris-Perry: “You once said the worst day in office was the day that you had to walk through the bloodied aftermath [following the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary]. Children were slaughtered in their classrooms and we have not made any meaningful progress on changing the access to guns in this country. Are we a nation of cowards when it comes to guns?”

Holder: “Well, I’ll say this, [walking through the school] was the worst day I had as Attorney General. It is, I think the single failure that I point to in my time as Attorney General, that I was not able to… convince Congress to really follow the will of the American people — which was to enact meaningful, reasonable, gun safety measures. The gun lobby simply won.”

To begin with, every poll I saw clearly revealed that the will of the American people was that they did not want Congress to pass new gun control laws. The majority of the American people supported the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Holder is blatantly lying when he said that it was the will of the American people to enact gun control laws.

Secondly, it’s not the role or duty of the Attorney General to be involved in the enactment of any legislation other than providing legal advice and counsel. It’s the role of Congress to supposedly enact the will of the people, which they did in defeating the liberal tyrant Democrats who tried so hard to pass laws to violate the constitutional right to own and bear arms.

If Harris-Perry asked me, I would have told her that Holder’s single greatest failure was his failure to uphold the US Constitution and federal laws. There is no doubt that Eric Himpton Holder, Jr. is the most corrupt and lawless Attorney General in the 226 years since the position was created by Congress. Holder’s legacy needs to be added to that of some of the most corrupt politicians in American history like former Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon, New York’s Rep. Boss Tweed, former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and current White House occupant Barack Hussein Obama.
