The news is full of one scandal after another and most of America has forgotten about the Sequestration that was to usher in the economic doom of our nation. (Too late, Obama already ushered it in.) Forgotten or not, federal employees in a number of departments will start taking forced furloughs without pay this summer. Paychecks will run short and some personal budgets may be stretched to the near breaking point.
Among those being furloughed are Border Patrol and Custom Agents, both of which are part of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Some of these agents may be facing up to 13 or more furlough days between now and September. How well would you fare if you were forced to lose that many days’ worth of paychecks?
Now what would you say if you found out that while you were being forced to take furlough days off that your employer was planning to spend millions of dollars to provide abortions to illegals being detained for deportation?
Believe it or not, Democrats in Congress have listed ICE funded abortions for illegals being detained as part of the benefits they’ll receive while in custody. Perhaps to add insult to injury, most of the immigration detainees these days are convicted criminals being released from prison. Remember that Obama forbids deporting non-criminals since they are potential voters.
Another question that begs to be asked about the Democratic request to provide abortions to detainees is how can they justify the expenditure for this when they claim that they don’t have enough funding to provide enough beds for detainees? That very question came up in the House Subcommittee on Homeland Security Appropriations.
Rep Hal Rodgers (R-KY) told the subcommittee:
“These are grim budget times. We don’t have carte blanche for even our most important security programs.”
Subcommittee Chairman Rep John Carter (R-TX), agreed and with the co-sponsorship of Rep Robert Aderholt (R-AL) and Rep Alan Nunnelee (R-MS), attached an amendment to the $46 billion Homeland Security funding bill that would prohibit the spending of any government money for abortions of detainees. The amendment was passed 25-21 in committee and now will be heading to the floor of the House for approval.
In commenting on the amendment, Rep Carter said:
“I will always support and remain committed to preserving the sanctity of life, and as a committed member of the Pro-Life Caucus, I will continue to defend human life at all stages. The provision in this amendment will continue to ensure that federal taxpayer dollars will not fund abortion.”
Despite complaints from Planned Parenthood, who claim that Carter’s amendment prevents immigrant women from being able to make a personal choice to have an abortion, they are still free to do so. Even illegals in detention may choose to have an abortion, but they will have to find some other way to pay for it. Caret’s amendment only cuts off any government funding that could be used to pay for an abortion.
Now I just wish the same kind of amendment could be attached to the federal budget, if we had one, to stop any government funding of abortion, period, including the $330 million a year allocated to Planned Parenthood. I wonder how many of the murder clinics would be forced to shut down if they lost all government funding? I’d sure like to give it a try, wouldn’t you?
In the meantime, please contact your Representative in Washington and tell him/her to support Carter’s amendment to stop all government funding of abortion for illegals in ICE detention centers.
