One of the favorite avenues of attack from the left is to level accusations of bias, prejudice and/or racism at conservatives. They do this on any number of issues, and they use the attack whenever they feel themselves being boxed in during a debate. The ad hominem attack is a balm they apply whenever they find themselves backed into a rhetorical corner against an obviously superior (dig) conservative opponent. Even if it has nothing to do with whatever the current topic of debate is, they find the tactic useful for ending the debate and wriggling away feeling as though they’ve won something…
There is much wrong with this tactic, but what makes it most despicable is the hypocrisy that is built into the argument.
For decades liberals have been promoting and instituting racially motived/driven policies in every corner of American society, whether it has been carving out special immigration policies for Muslims, or pushing academic policies that favor African-Americans or molding welfare policies that give preference to minority groups. While we may not see anything wrong with these things – they are inherently racist because they give preference to one person over another based solely on race or ethnicity.
The Wall Street Journal brought us another example of this ugly liberal racism when it exposed colleges for their evil treatment of our Asian-American population.
A complaint Friday alleged that Harvard University discriminates against Asian-American applicants by setting a higher bar for admissions than that faced by other groups.
The complaint, filed by a coalition of 64 organizations, says the university has set quotas to keep the numbers of Asian-American students significantly lower than the quality of their applications merits. It cites third-party academic research on the SAT exam showing that Asian-Americans have to score on average about 140 points higher than white students, 270 points higher than Hispanic students and 450 points higher than African-American students to equal their chances of gaining admission to Harvard. The exam is scored on a 2400-point scale…
“Many studies have indicated that Harvard University has been engaged in systemic and continuous discrimination against Asian-Americans during its very subjective ‘Holistic’ college admissions process,” the complaint alleges…
The complaint argues that elite schools “that use race-neutral admissions” have far higher Asian-American enrollment than Harvard. At California Institute of Technology, for instance, about 40% of undergraduates are Asian-American, about twice that at Harvard.
It’s ugly, isn’t it?
The racism of the left is boundless and somehow they find time to constantly demagogue us for our perceived biases. The American liberal has used the welfare state and the halls of academia to create the most ironic case of systemic racism the world has ever seen.
Even worse, these liberal race-based admission policies aren’t just bad for the people who get discriminated against, they’re also bad for our nation. The policies mean that our best and brightest are forced into inferior schools, while our 2nd tier of students are given priority. This immediately handicaps our future, and for what? All so liberal bleeding hearts can feel better based on some illogical and foolish standard that they have constructed in an effort to make up for sins committed by previous generations.
It’s just bizarre.
