One of Obama’s prime gun control measures is the call to ban all assault and assault-style weapons. He doesn’t want them manufactured, sold or owned by any American citizen. If you believe Obama’s lying rhetoric, assault and assault-style weapons are the cause of most of the gun violence in America, even though they are involved in a small minority of gun violence incidents.
For the past 7 years, Obama has claimed that the majority of Americans support banning assault and assault-style weapons. Surprisingly, that’s one of the few truths that Obama got right, but according to the latest ABC News/Washington Post, that’s no longer the case.
Back in 1994, 80% of the respondents to the ABC poll supported banning assault weapons. Since that time, the number of people who favor banning assault weapons has been decreasing until now.
ABC News reported:
“A majority of Americans oppose banning assault weapons for the first time in more than 20 years of ABC News/Washington Post polls, with the public expressing vast doubt that the authorities can prevent ‘lone wolf’ terrorist attacks and a substantial sense that armed citizens can help.”
“Just 45 percent in this national survey favor an assault weapons ban, down 11 percentage points from an ABC/Post poll in 2013 and down from a peak of 80 percent in 1994. Fifty-three percent oppose such a ban, the most on record.”
Not only are more Americans against banning assault weapons, the majority of respondents to the poll also said that they believe that having more people legally carry guns is a better solution to terrorism than imposing stricter gun control laws. The response in support of more people carrying guns was 47% to 42% saying more gun control laws would be better.
When asked if they thought government could prevent a lone-wolf attack, only 22% said they were confident in the government’s ability while 77% said they’re less confident that the government could prevent any more lone-wolf attacks.
The margin of confidence increased when asked if the government could prevent a large scale terrorist attack, but they are not the majority. Forty-three percent said they were confident in the government’s ability to prevent a large scale terrorist attack while 56% expressed less confidence in the government’s ability to prevent the attacks.
All of these results are not what Obama wants. He wants everyone to support banning assault weapons and believing that the government will do a better job of protecting everyone than the idea of having more people carrying guns. Socialist need the people to rely on the government for everything, especially their safety, but this latest poll indicates that’s not happening the way Obama would like. Maybe there is still a ray of hope for America.
