Mexico Finally Releases Wrongfully Imprisoned US Marine Reservist Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi

US Marine Reservist Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi has been released by Mexican authorities and is back in the US after spending 8 months in a Mexican prison.

Tahmooressi was driving to a friend’s house in the San Diego area where he was going to stay while getting treatment for PTSD. He wasn’t familiar with the area or the streets and ended up driving right past his exit. With all of his possessions in his car, he found himself crossing into Mexico with no easy way to turn around.

Before he could find a place to turn back to the US, Mexican police stopped him and searched his car. Among his personal possessions, were his three legally purchased guns and ammunition. Tahmooressi was arrested and charged with three firearms crimes and then jailed in a Mexican prison.

During that time, Barack Obama traded 5 top Taliban leaders for an Army deserter, but never lifted a finger to rescue a Marine reservist who proudly and honorably served his nation. Other politicians, Democrats and Republicans, have been working and trying to pressure the Mexican government to release Tahmooressi, but be assured that just like the death of Osama bin Laden, Obama will take credit where no credit is due. Numerous conservative and veterans groups also got involved in the effort to free Tahmooressi.

A month ago, I advocated sending US troops across the border to free our Marine from the Mexican prison. I cited a number of cases (over 300) where the Mexican army has crossed into the US and even shot one American on US soil in Arizona. If I were president, I would have given the Mexican government an ultimatum to immediately drop the erroneous charges and release Tahmooressi or face a military intervention to secure his release.

Fortunately I’m not president and military action was not needed. In a surprise move on Friday, Mexican federal prosecutors dropped their charges against the US Marine reservist citing that his PTSD rendered him unfit for trial. When the prosecutors dropped the charges, Mexican Federal Judge Victor Octavio Luna Escobedo of the Sixth Federal District Court in Tijuana ordered Tahmooressi to be released immediately and with ‘absolute liberty.’

As reported by the San Diego Union Tribune:

“On Friday night, Tahmooressi was driven from El Hongo State Penitentiary east of Tecate to the San Ysidro Port of Entry. He walked across the border at about 9 p.m., got into a vehicle and was taken to Brown Field.”

“He boarded a private jet provided by a foundation run by former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson for the flight to Florida. Richardson, who met with Tahmooressi in prison last week, was also on the plane, as were the former Marine’s mother, Jill Tahmooressi; media personality Montel Williams; and his former commanding officer in Afghanistan, Sgt. Robert Buchanan.”

“‘He was all grins as he got on the plane to head home to Florida,’ said U.S.Rep. Ed Royce, R-Fullerton, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.”

“Royce and U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Ariz., were at Brown Field to see Tahmooressi off.”

“His family released a statement expressing its relief for his return.”

“‘He is back on American soil and will shortly resume treatment for both his pre-existing Combat Related PTSD and the residual effects of months of incarceration – which has taken a toll on him far worse than his two tours in Afghanistan,’ it said.”

The American people still need to be asking why Obama would trade terrorists for a deserter but not do anything to rescue a wrongfully imprisoned soldier who served proudly and honorably. This double standard exemplifies Obama’s treasonous activities and his obvious distaste and disrespect for our military. I hope many people think about this when they go to the poll tomorrow.
