Muslim Teen Fired For Wearing Hijab At Work Sued Employer And Won

When I saw this headline, I was in shock.  Finally someone actually discriminated against a Muslim.  It happens to Christians all the time and that’s okay, but you rarely see it happen to a Muslim and in this case, the liberal media is taking the side of the Muslim.

In 2010, Muslim teenager Hani Khan got a job at an Abercrombie & Fitch store in San Mateo, California.  After working at the store for nearly four months, the manage told Khan that she was not allowed to wear her hijab – the traditional headscarf of Muslim women, because it violated the companies dress code that they refer to as the ‘Look Policy.”  Khan refused to work without her hijab and was subsequently terminated.

Ten days later, the manager offered Khan her job back as long as she did not wear her hijab, but Khan refused.  As expected she filed a lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch claiming that she had been discriminated against because of her religion.  The company said that it had nothing to do with her religion but her look in general.  Their ‘Look Policy’ has strict guidelines that dictate how employees will dress, wear their hair, jewelry, etc.  They want a standard corporate look that reflects their target of ‘cool people’ and that does not include wearing a hijab.

Last week, a federal judge ruled in favor of Khan and said that Abercrombie & Fitch had discriminated against her.  A further trial to establish the company’s liability and punitive damages is scheduled to take place on September 30.

It doesn’t surprise me to see the courts rule in favor of a Muslim.  When I worked for a utility back in Arizona, they sent out a memo company-wide that no religious items were allowed in the workplace or to be worn on one’s person.  This utility is only one of two utilities in the country that is actually a government entity since it was established by an act of Congress.  All Christians in the company were forced to remove Bibles, crosses and even picture frames that had a Christian symbol or verse on it.  Women were told to stop wearing their necklaces that had crosses on them.  Yet there were a number of Sikhs that worked for the utility and they were allowed to wear their turbans and even the bindi on their foreheads. A bindi is a drop or colored dot in the center of the forehead close to the eyebrows.  When Christians complained, they were told to be quite or lose their jobs.

It always seems that it is perfectly acceptable to discriminate against a Christian, but not against Sikhs, Muslims or any other pagan religion.  The same thing holds true when it comes to blasphemy.  Anyone is legally allowed to say anything they want about the Bible, God, Jesus and Christians, but dare say something publicly against Muslims, homosexuals or any other group of people and it’s considered to be hate language and will not be tolerated.  An artist was legally allowed to display an small Jesus statue in a jar of human urine because it was art.  I would love to see the same artist try that with a statue of Mohammed and see if he gets away with it or even how long he lives.

The First Amendment right to freedom of religion only applies if your religion is anything but Christian.  Being a Christian in America today is like wearing a target on your back for everyone else to take aim at.
