Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has a problem showing gratitude.
Now that the Obama Administration has handed the Iranians everything it ever dreamed of for its nuclear weapons program in exchange for an occasional office visit by foreign inspectors, you’d think he’d be a little friendlier.
But there he was, marking the end of Ramadan by blasting the U.S. and calling for the destruction of Israel.
“If the Islamic Ummah were united and relied on their own commonalities, they would certainly be a unique power in the international political scene, but big powers have imposed such divisions on the Islamic Ummah to pursue their own interests and safeguard the Zionist regime [of Israel],” he said.
You might recall the end of Ramadan as the warm, fluffy holiday the White House tweeted about last week amid a lot of glowing talk of gift exchanges and feasting. (That was also the same day four Marines and a sailor were killed by an Islamic terrorist in Chattanooga.)
Apparently, it’s also the time for calling on Muslims to take over the world and denounce the United States.
“The Americans dub the Lebanese resistance as terrorist and regard Iran as a supporter of terrorism because of its support for the Lebanese Hezbollah, while the Americans, themselves, are real terrorists,” Khamenei said.
Then he accused the U.S. of creating ISIS.
All right, that one’s only a little bit overstated. The Obama Administration did ship arms from Libya to “freedom fighters” in Syria who reorganized as ISIS, and Obama pulled U.S. troops out of Iraq and left a huge power vaccuum, and we have had that non-campaign of occasionally bombing ISIS targets without actually stopping them or retaking any lost Iraqi territory.
“Facilitated” rather than “created” might be more accurate.
Khamenei apparently feels that Iran successfully avoided making any real concessions in the recent nuclear negotiations, and he was happy to rub our nose in it.
“Our policies and those of the US in the region are 180 degree different,” he said, “so how could it be possible to enter dialogue and negotiations with them (Americans)? … Today, they have been forced to accept and stand the spinning of thousands of centrifuges and continuation of research and development in Iran, and it has no meaning but the Iranian nation’s might.”
So, the sum result of the nuclear talks is a piece of paper that Iran doesn’t seem to be impressed by, the continued belligerence of Iran’s leaders, and the publicly announced ongoing plan to develop nuclear research to somehow destroy Israel and America.
Sounds like some good work once again by the Obama Administration. No wonder there’s talk of giving John Kerry a Nobel Peace Prize like his boss has.
So, Congress, feel free to weigh in at any time. …
