Obama Administration Tries to Kill Foreign Donations Scandal

Chalk up another one for the most transparent administration ever.

The Obama Administration is once again in full scramble mode to try to cover for a breaking scandal. This time, it’s a report by the Government Accountability Institute that says many of the donations Obama rakes in online are probably illegal.

Pause to recover from shock. Done.

The Obama re-election campaign was recently bragging about topping its 2008 record-breaking number of donations, saying it was closing in on No. 10 million.

The GAI report says that the Obama campaign has knowingly chosen to ignore basic online security protocols designed to prevent illegal contributions, the implication being that Obama will reap more funding by bending the rules.

Chief among the security standards ignored is the lack of use of the security number, or CVV, on credit cards. Cards typically have a three-digit number on the back in addition to the card number that is meant to ensure that someone making an online purchase is in possession of the actual card used.

The report says the campaign even pays higher fees to credit card companies for the privilege of not using standard security protocols.

One of the most startling revelations in the report, however, is that the website Obama.com is not owned by the campaign, but by Obama bundler Robert Roche, who lives in Shanghai and has business ties to the Chinese government.

Roche is chairman of a company called Acorn International (does that sound familiar?), which gains revenue through credit card transactions with state-controlled banks.

The website redirects users to a donation page on the official Obama campaign site that does not require the use of a CVV number for credit card donations. The report also points out that at least one employee of the company that runs the campaign website, Wicked Global, lists a Palestinian rights group as an additional employer.

According to White House logs, Roche has been to the White House at least 19 times since 2009, and he was present at the head table for Obama’s state dinner for Chinese President Hu Jintao.

The report also finds vulnerabilities in a number of House and Senate campaign sites.

Within minutes of Newsweek’s publishing of its story about the report, the Obama campaign was making excuses for the findings and trying to slander one of the report authors by saying he was, gasp, a conservative and had once worked for Sarah Palin.

Given the Administration’s overly cozy relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, which reportedly has infiltrated most of our government agencies, this new report raises the possibility that the White House is being further manipulated by Chinese agents involved in an illegal fundraising scheme.

Let’s see if this scandal sticks.
