I usually don’t worry about the gratuitous abuse of Sarah Palin and her family. Not that I think they deserve any of the garbage that gets thrown their way, but they’re a tough clan, especially mama grizzly Sarah, and I mostly figure they can handle themselves.
But the latest “controversy” whipped up by the Left against Palin and her little boy Trig is so over the top, so bizarre, that something just has to be said about the Left’s blowing up of a simple family photo into a national crisis.
It all started when Palin posted a cute photo of Trig getting a boost to reach a countertop by stepping up on the family dog’s back. The picture included a new year’s message that read, “May 2015 see every stumbling block turned into a stepping stone on the path forward. Trig just reminded me. He, determined to help wash dishes with an oblivious mama not acknowledging his signs for ‘up!’, found me and a lazy dog blocking his way. He made his stepping stone.”
Trig is 6 and probably weighs around 40 pounds. The dog looks like it weighs significantly more. The dog clearly doesn’t mind because it’s not moving out of the way.
Naturally, it took all of about two seconds for all the Palin haters to come out of the woodwork and start howling animal abuse. Apparently liberals, in addition to being smarter and morally superior to everyone else, are experts in animal spine and back problems.
Some of those screaming animal rights are almost certainly some of the same people who got on Palin’s case years ago for not aborting Trig because he has Down syndrome.
The culmination of all the fretting, however, came from PETA, which issued a predictably hostile and morally warped statement that said in part, “It’s odd that anyone — let alone a mother — would find it appropriate to post such a thing, with no apparent sympathy for the dog in the photo. Then again, PETA, along with everyone else, is used to the hard-hearted, seeming obliviousness of this bizarrely callous woman, who actually thought it appropriate to be filmed while turkeys were being slaughtered right behind her in full view of the camera.”
Because if a little boy uses his four-footed buddy to help with the dishes, it will obviously lead to the mass genocide of turkeys, a food animal that PETA evidently has something against as well.
“PETA simply believes that people shouldn’t step on dogs,” PETA president Ingrid Newkirk sniffed in a separate statement.
However, as Palin pointed out, PETA’s former person of the year Ellen Degeneres had in years past posted a photo of, yes, a little child standing on her dog’s back to reach a countertop. Oddly, PETA never raised a peep.
Palin also brought up the widely known tale of President Obama dining on dog as a child in Indonesia. “Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?” Palin asked in a lengthy and understandably angry reply to PETA.
Palin can fight her own battles, but it’s the arrogance and ignorance of the Left that is so rankling. Even a simple photo of a sweet childhood moment can’t escape the PC censors if you happen to be a conservative.
Yet if you’re a liberal, clearly you can get away with literal doggy murder. …
