First the liberal Democrats, then blacks, Hispanics, women, communist and socialist organizations rallied to support Barack Obama in his re-election bid. Now the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender crowds have joined in the campaign efforts to win Obama a second term.
Based in San Francisco, the land of nuts, fruits and flakes, Marcus Lovingood has launched the Pride-LGBT super PAC for the express purpose of helping to re-elect President Obama. Speaking about the super PAC, Lovingood said,
“The LGBT community is so incredibly strong. If empowered more … I have the confidence the community will be engaged and work together on a larger scale.”
Joining him in his endeavor is Rose Dawydiak-Rapagnani. One of the main strategies is to work through social media networks such as Facebook. Rose explained,
“There are 146 million Facebook users in the U.S., which is about half of the population. We have access to all these people through the touch of a button.”
Conservatives and Republicans need to take notice as super PACs can raise unlimited funding for any candidate they choose and we know who their candidate of choice is. With the growing number of people in the LGBT community and their supporters, they have the potential to raise millions of dollars for their hero of gay rights, Barack Obama.
Mitt Romney has already proven that money wins elections as he outspent his GOP primary opponents as much as 4-to-1 in some of the state primaries. There is no telling how much he has left to spend on his battle with Obama who didn’t have to spend a huge amount this year so he has millions and millions just waiting to be used in his campaign effort. If it comes down to dollar versus dollar, Romney may just have a rough road ahead, especially once the Price-LGBT super PAC picks up momentum.
