Raise Taxes or Gut the Military?

Over the past few decades, the Democratic Party has done everything in its power to gut, bleed, weaken and reduce the military might of the US.  President Bill Clinton closed numerous military bases in the US and abroad.  He also weakened the GI Bill to make it less attractive to young Americans to join the military and then take advantage of the moneys for college.  Clinton’s administration was the first to have American military swear allegiance to a foreign power – the United Nations

Under President Obama, the ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ policy has been removed, allowing gays to openly serve in the military.  Next his administration proposed a complete revamping of the military retirement program that would make it far less attractive for anyone to make it a carrier and more difficult for those that do to support themselves upon retirement.

Now, some believe Obama is further trying to gut the military or use this tactic to force the deficit supercommittee to raise taxes.

Currently, the Defense Department is facing a budget cut of $350 billion over the next 10 years.  If the supercommittee cannot come up with an acceptable plan to reduce deficit spending, the Defense Department will end up with an additional $500 billion in automatic cuts.

Rep. Howard McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee told a crowd at the American Enterprise Institute, “It is my suspicion that the White House and congressional Democrats” designed the supercommittee process “for one purpose: to force Republicans to choose between raising taxes or gutting defense… President Obama’s policies often seem reflective of an ideology that treats American power as the principal adversary, not ally, to world peace… That view flies in the face of both history and experience. And it resigns us to national decline… That political gamesmanship is simply unacceptable.”

I’ve written in the past about the waste in military spending, and cutting that wasteful spending would definitely help, but what Obama and the Democratic Party has been striving towards over the past twenty years is the emasculation of the United States’ military power and ability to protect ourselves.  This is another reason why it’s so important to defeat Obama in 2012 and replace him with someone who has military experience and the desire to see America remain militarily strong.
